ABSTRACT

COVID-19 has made it difficult to adopt traditional face-to-face psychological intervention under this situation because of the blocked down and social distancing, which brings big psychological crisis to the public among the global. To explore the emotional change of the public in China at the outburst of the pandemic at different phases, to establish an online working platform and create a new model of an online intervention to hold public emotions under pandemic, and test its effectiveness, so to give advisement for government emergency management system. We established an online organization to work for this program ad innovated a model of online group counseling with online emotional support accompany group (OESAG) right after the outburst of a pandemic. We analyzed 53 OESAGs from February 10 to April 9, including 555 application forms, 253 feedback from members, and 139 feedback from group leaders by using NVivo and SPSS to explore the evolution and characteristics of public emotion during COVID-19 and the effectiveness of OESAG. Our results showed that the emotional changes of members ranged from shock to depression to positive. The public's emotions swiftly changed from stress, anxiety, and isolation, to the hope of returning to work or finding a job during the pandemic with the help of OESAG. OESAG has effectively regulated the negative emotions of members by conducting psychological crisis intervention to provide members a space to communicate with each other, especially the female and frontline staff. Policy makers can set up an online systematic psychological crisis intervention system as soon as possible to make up for the lack of psychological assistance in the emergency management system.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to explore how peer education influences men who have sex with men (MSM) to accompany friends to test and then affects their own testing, and to reveal the internal mechanism of peer education influencing HIV testing. A cross-sectional study among MSM in 11 cities in Shandong province, China was conducted to collect information on demographic characteristics, behavior, HIV-related knowledge, HIV testing history, and use of prevention services. Blood samples were tested for HIV status. Logistic regression was used for univariate and multivariate analyses, and R Mediation package was used for mediating effect analysis. Of 4,005 participants, 66.8% (2,674/4,005) had HIV testing in the last year, 50.6% (2,026/4,004) accompanied a friend for HIV testing, and 65.3% (2,614/4,005) received peer education in the last year. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, MSM who had anal sex with men in the past six months (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 1.772, 95% confidence interval [CI] = [1.438, 2.182]), had used drugs (AOR = 2.762, 95% CI = [2.264, 3.368]), received peer education in the past year (AOR = 2.412, 95% CI = [2.081, 2.796]), and accompanied a friend for testing in the past year (AOR = 3.077, 95% CI = [2.653, 3.569]) were more likely to take HIV testing. Receiving peer education in the past year could influence their own HIV testing in the past year by affecting their accompanying one's friends to take the test in the past year (a*b = 0.889, 95% CI = [0.733, 1.053]). Peer education not only had a direct effect on HIV testing but also had an indirect effect on HIV testing by influencing accompanying friends for testing.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effect of social support on stress, and to clarify the effect and mechanism of Online Emotional Support Accompany Group (OESAG). Methods: The group members who signed up for the public welfare project "Psychological Rehabilitation Group Psychological Service under the COVID-19 Pandemic" were divided into the treatment group, the control group, and the blank group with 37 members each. The treatment group received OESAG intervention, the control group received online time management group intervention, and the blank group was the waiting group. The three groups of subjects were synchronously tested before and after the intervention group. Results: After the OESAG intervention, compared with the control group and the blank group, the treatment group showed that perceived social support was improved, and loneliness and stress were decreased. Conclusion: Improving social support can effectively reduce stress. OESAG can effectively improve social support and so too decrease stress. This study could help in designing effective psychological intervention measures to reduce the degree of stress symptoms and enhance both personal and social levels of coping with stressful events.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The needs of patients with dementia can hardly be met in an organization- and process-oriented acute care hospital. In order to create a successful interaction between patients and hospital staff, the importance of relatives as a link and mediator is considered. OBJECTIVE: From publications on similar topics, it is deduced which conditions relatives need in order to be able to act as a link and mediator. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in the databases of Medline (PubMed), Cochrane, CINAHL, and GeroLit. RESULTS: From the available literature, the reasons for the accompaniment by relatives can be outlined, their activities in the acute care hospital can be described and hindering and supporting factors can be presented. CONCLUSION: Relatives already act as a link and mediator between patients with dementia and hospital staff. In doing so they act as advocates for the patient and are available to the professionals as experts and advisors. To accomplish this task, there are conditions that support or hinder the mediation activity.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Idarucizumab is a humanized, monoclonal antibody fragment used specifically to reverse the anticoagulant effects of dabigatran. CASE REPORTS: We discuss 4 cases of patients who were treated with idarucizumab to reverse dabigatran before early/emergency surgery. Two of the patients had subdural hematomas, 1 had a splenic laceration, and 1 had Fournier gangrene. All patients received 5 g of idarucizumab before surgery. Intraoperative blood loss in all patients was normal, no adverse events were reported, and the patients recovered normally. WHY SHOULD AN EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN BE AWARE OF THIS?: The case reports presented provide detailed, practical, real-world experience beyond that reported in other case reports and the Reversal Effects of Idarucizumab on Active Dabigatran study. This can help guide clinicians on how idarucizumab can reverse the anticoagulant effect of dabigatran in emergency situations, including patients with subdural hematoma. Our experience suggests that idarucizumab may be a safe and effective antidote to the effects of dabigatran in real-life bleeding situations involving early or emergency surgeries.
