ABSTRACT

Background: Immune-related thyroid dysfunction (irTD) is a common immune-related adverse event (irAE). The potential biomarkers of irTDs and their impact on the clinical outcomes of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) remain unclear. We aimed to identify potential biomarkers of irTDs and reveal the association between irTDs and the clinical outcomes in patients with NSCLC treated with ICIs. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on 126 patients with NSCLC, who were treated with pembrolizumab, sintilimab, atezolizumab, or camrelizumab, as first-line therapy, at the First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, between July 2019 and February 2023. Anti-thyroid antibodies (ATAs), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb), serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), thyroid ultrasonography, overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) were the main indicators. Results: Most (92.9%) irTD cases occurred no later than one year after ICIs initiation. Patients with irTDs had higher positive rates for ATAs and TPOAb [33.3% vs. 1.3%, and 30.3% vs. 1.3%, both P<0.01, odds ratio (OR) =39.81, and OR =35.46, respectively]. Irregular echo pattern and diffuse changes were more common in patients with irTDs (70.7% vs. 47.2%, and 19.5% vs. 1.4%, P<0.05 and P<0.01, OR =2.70, and OR =17.21, respectively). OS and PFS were similar in patients with and without irTDs (P>0.05). Conclusions: The ATAs, TPOAb, and abnormal thyroid ultrasonographic findings (irregular echo patterns and diffuse changes) are potential biomarkers of irTDs. Patients with NSCLC treated with ICIs (pembrolizumab, sintilimab, atezolizumab, and camrelizumab) who developed irTDs had no advantage in terms of clinical outcomes compared to euthyroid patients.

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to situate Victor Tausk, classic author of psychoanalysis, within the psychoanalytic movement from historical analysis, through the interweaving of texts. Tausk, a lawyer, also worked with journalism and literature, writing poems, short stories, and plays; he meets Freud when he falls ill with a depression crisis. From then on, psychoanalysis became part of his personal and professional life. However, his suicide sent his name into limbo in the history of psychoanalysis, as if it had never existed. We reconstructed his biography, bring him from this place where he was and approached other elements necessary to constitute the map of his positions in the history of psychoanalysis. With these elements in hand, we present a clear idea of what were the ten years of his presence in the Vienna psychoanalytic movement. We hope that this article will bring the attentive reader a glimpse of this great psychoanalyst's life and work and spark his curiosity to seek to read him.

ABSTRACT

The present work aims to research the speeches of the first psychoanalysts on lesbianity, through a theoretical and documentary research of the Minutes of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society. Investigating the question of the lesbian desire, the article intends to contribute with the acknowledgment of the limits and potentialities of the psychoanalytic sexual theories. To this end, the two main hypotheses about the lesbian desire developed at the meetings of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society were examined and the origin of the associations between lesbianity and masculinity in the psychoanalytic point of view was discussed, pointing out some questions that lesbianity can formulate about the relations between psychoanalysis and patriarchy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of ATAS acupuncture (Acupoints-Time-Space Acupuncture) as a non-pharmacological intervention to prevent or relieve chemotherapy-induced fatigue in breast cancer patients undergoing taxane chemotherapy. METHODS: A pilot study in Kunming center with the aim of evaluating 40 patients randomized to 3 groups: ATAS, sham and non-acupuncture with an unequal randomization of 2:1:1. Participants with stage I-III breast cancer were scheduled to receive adjuvant EC4P4 chemotherapy. Participants in the ATAS and sham acupuncture arms received 20 sessions of acupuncture over 20 weeks, non-acupuncture arm received usual care. Evaluation scales, including VAS-F, MFI-20, HDAS, ISI, and blood samples were collected at four timepoints (T1-T4). mRNA sequencing was performed to detect the mechanism of acupuncture. RESULTS: A total of 581 sessions of acupuncture were performed on patients in the acupuncture group. There was no difference between the three groups in terms of clinical characteristics. Patients randomized to ATAS acupuncture had improved symptoms including fatigue, anxiety and insomnia during the whole process of chemotherapy compared with the other two groups. The VAS-F score of ATAS acupuncture group was decreased compared with non-acupuncture group (P=0.004). The score of MFI-20 in ATAS acupuncture group was kept at low level, while the other two groups' scores kept climbing during chemotherapy (P=0.016; P=0.028, respectively). The mechanism of ATAS acupuncture which reduced fatigue and depression may be related to ADROA1, by regulating cGMP/PKG pathway. CONCLUSION: This pilot study has demonstrated that ATAS acupuncture can significantly reduce fatigue induced by chemotherapy. ABSTRACT

Implicit and explicit attitudes correlate under certain conditions and researchers are interested in the moderating factors of this relationship. This paper explored the role of socially desirable responding in this relationship by testing the hypothesis that impression management (IM; i.e., deliberate response modification) and self-deceptive enhancement (SDE; i.e., positive self-bias) play moderating roles in the relationship of implicit-explicit attitudes toward asylum seekers in Australia. Seventy-four students responded to a battery of measures and the results revealed that IM (but not SDE) moderated this relationship to the extent that higher IM scores weakened the correspondence between implicit and explicit attitude scores. This suggests that attitudes toward asylum seekers might be susceptible to socially desirable response tendencies and in combination with the finding that IM was negatively related to explicit attitudes, it is argued that self-presentation concerns result in the deliberate attenuation of reported negative explicit attitudes.

ABSTRACT

An experimental platform based on scaled-down unit operations combined in a plug-and-play manner enables easy and highly flexible testing of advanced biocatalytic process options such as in situ product removal (ISPR) process strategies. In such a platform, it is possible to compartmentalize different process steps while operating it as a combined system, giving the possibility to test and characterize the performance of novel process concepts and biocatalysts with minimal influence of inhibitory products. Here the capabilities of performing process development by applying scaled-down unit operations are highlighted through a case study investigating the asymmetric synthesis of 1-methyl-3-phenylpropylamine (MPPA) using ω-transaminase, an enzyme in the sub-family of amino transferases (ATAs). An on-line HPLC system was applied to avoid manual sample handling and to semi-automatically characterize ω-transaminases in a scaled-down packed-bed reactor (PBR) module, showing MPPA as a strong inhibitor. To overcome the inhibition, a two-step liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) ISPR concept was tested using scaled-down unit operations combined in a plug-and-play manner. Through the tested ISPR concept, it was possible to continuously feed the main substrate benzylacetone (BA) and extract the main product MPPA throughout the reaction, thereby overcoming the challenges of low substrate solubility and product inhibition. The tested ISPR concept achieved a product concentration of 26.5 gMPPA · L-1 , a purity up to 70% gMPPA · gtot-1 and a recovery in the range of 80% mol · mol-1 of MPPA in 20 h, with the possibility to increase the concentration, purity, and recovery further.
