ABSTRACT

Floppy eyelid syndrome is rarely diagnosed nowadays. Most patients remain without the correct diagnosis for a long time, which means they do not receive adequate treatment. This syndrome is known to be accompanied by many concomitant clinical manifestations complicating the diagnostic search. It should be included in the diagnostic search algorithm in patients with chronic conjunctivitis, abnormal eyelid position, point keratopathy. This review presents the modern understanding of characteristic clinical features, associated conditions, as well as information about the pathogenesis of this syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Molluscum contagiosum (MC) is a viral infection of the skin and mucosal tissues characterized by skin-colored or transparent round nodules with a dimple or pit in the center. The infection is caused by a DNA poxvirus called the MC virus. Although MC generally occurs in children, it has also been reported in immunocompromised and atopic patients. The virus is transmitted by skin contact or sexual intercourse. The lesions disappear spontaneously within several months in most cases. However, excision, cryotherapy, cauterization, topical chemical and antiviral agents, and/or oral cimetidine are used in refractory cases or to accelerate the healing process. Herein, we discussed the clinical findings and our treatment of two patients with unilateral chronic conjunctivitis associated with eyelid MC lesions in light of the literature.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe clinical effects of Zhenzhumingmu eye drops combing with antibiotic in treatment of chronic conjunctivitis. Methods 96 patients with chronic conjunctivitis from ophthalmology department from January 2015 to October 2016 were grouped two groups by draw method, each with 48 cases. The control group was treated with ofloxacin eye drops, and observation group was treated with Zhenzhumingmu eye drops combing with ofloxacin eye drops.Related indicators are analyzed in two groups. Results ①Effective rate of observation group was 87.50%,higher than control group with 66.67%(P<0.05).②Dry eye, eye itching, eye fatigue and foreign body sensation score of observation group were (1.01±0.24),(0.93±0.22),(0.85±0.18),(0.81±0.25)points,lower than control group(1.46±0.30),(1.39±0.25),(1.16±0.21),(1.22±0.29)(all P<0.05).③Eye discomfort proportion of observation group was 12.50%, higher than control group 8.33%,but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion Zhenzhumingmu eye drops has exact curative effect in treatment of chronic conjunctivitis, can improve the symptoms and has high security.

ABSTRACT

CLINICAL CASE: The case is presented of a 43 year-old male patient with chronic follicular conjunctivitis, negative bacterial serology, and refractory to local treatment. The incisional biopsy performed showed to be consistent with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia. A year later, a new incisional biopsy showed follicular lymphoma, with no systemic involvement, and he was treated with local radiotherapy. DISCUSSION: When a chronic follicular conjunctivitis is refractory to treatment, it is essential to perform an incisional biopsy to establish the histopathological diagnosis that can range from chronic inflammation, reactive lymphoid hyperplasia to lymphoma. Follicular lymphoma is rare among conjunctival lymphomas, and the staging is indispensable for the correct therapeutic approach.

ABSTRACT

Conjunctivitis is the most common cause of red eye in primary care. The 3 most common types of conjunctivitis are viral, allergic, and bacterial, and they can present in either acute or chronic forms; the age of the patient, time of year and physical examination findings are paramount to distinguish the different types of conjunctivitis. Distinguishing between acute viral and bacterial conjunctivitis remains difficult. Patients with prolonged symptoms, poor response to initial management, or evidence of severe disease should be referred to ophthalmology for consultation.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: We report six cases of histologically diagnosed conjunctival MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue)oma. Presenting symptoms were eyelid swelling, foreign body sensation, lid mass, injection and itching sensation. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Six patients with conjunctival MALToma were followed. Clinical progress and biopsy result were reviewed periodically. RESULTS: The conjunctival MALToma seemed to be localized and slowly progressive. Although the conjunctival MALToma is known to be well responsive to radiotherapy, two of three patients who received radiotherapy revealed to have remnant lymphoma cells histologically in conjunctival biopsy. In addition, chemotherapy did not have curative effect in any of the patients. CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, we are doubtful for the necessity of active treatment in MALTomas of the conjunctiva.

ABSTRACT

Ocular cicatricial pemphigoid isa chronic, progressive disease characterized by cicatricial shrinkage of the conjunctiva, entropion, trichiasis, xerosis, and finally reduced vision from corneal opacification. It is a relatively rare, autoimmune disease. In the early stages, it can be easily overlooked as simple chronic conjunctivitis, so it can be untreated. We report a case of ocular cicatricial pemphigoid that resulted in significant morbidity. We were able to control the progression of cicatrization with aggressive immunosuppressive therapy.

ABSTRACT

We experienced chronic relapsing central corneal ulcer and chronic conjunctivitis with mucoid discharge. Both patients were transfered to our hospital because of no improvement with long term treatment of broad spectrum antibiotics topically and systemically Specimens from corneal scraping and conjunctival mucoid discharge were examined with calcofluor white staining method. We could find a narrow rim of light green colored cystic wall and orange red colored cytoplasm in dark field fluorescent microscopy in both cases, and those were diagnosed as Acnthamoebic cyst by pathologist. We couldn't find any report about ocular Aanthamoeba infections in Korea. To our knowledge, this is the first case report about ocular Acanthamoebic infections in Korea.
