ABSTRACT

El suicidio se ha convertido en un problema social y de salud pública a nivel mundial. En este sentido, la Terapia de Aceptación y Compromiso (ACT) podría ser eficaz en su abordaje, existiendo evidencia sobre la relación entre algunos de sus componentes y la conducta suicida. Así, el presente estudio tuvo por objetivo realizar una revisión sistemática sobre la eficacia de ACT en conducta suicida. Para ello se siguió el protocolo PRISMA, empleando las siguientes bases de datos: PsycInfo, PubMed, Scopus y PsicoDoc. Inicialmente se obtuvieron 108 publicaciones potencialmente relevantes, de las cuales, finalmente, 13 fueron incluidas en la revisión. La calidad de los estudios se analizó a través de un instrumento de evaluación de riesgo de sesgos. Como resultados, a nivel general se observaron disminuciones estadísticamente significativas en ideación suicida (IS) y factores de riesgo de suicidio. Además, algunos estudios señalaron relaciones estadísticamente significativas entre un aumento de flexibilidad psicológica y la disminución de IS. Si bien los datos apuntaron a una posible eficacia de ACT en la reducción de IS, es necesario llevar a cabo mayor número de estudios experimentales que contemplen la complejidad de la conducta suicida y exploren los procesos de cambio implicados.(AU)


Suicide has emerged as a pressing global issue affecting both so-ciety and public health.In this context, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) could prove effective in its approach, supported by evi-dence of the relationship between certain components of ACT and suicidal behavior. Thus, the present study aims to conduct a systematic review on the efficacy of ACT in suicidal behavior. For this, the PRISMA protocol was followed, using thefollowing databases: PsycInfo, PubMed, Scopus and PsicoDoc. ABSTRACT

We investigated the development of professional commitment over time and its relation to work experiences of novice nurses. We used a longitudinal mixed-method approach based on weekly reported quantitative commitment scores and qualitative descriptions of experiences. Specifically, we examined turning points in commitment trajectories and analyzed qualitative characteristics of the turning point. To determine a turning point, we firstly computed a smoothed trajectory for each individual and defined each point beyond the 95% interval of this smoothed trajectory as exceptional. Secondly, we explored whether the commitment development changed after an exceptional point with regard to the slope-valence or commitment strength. The sample consisted of 18 novice nurses. Two third of them revealed at least one turning point, thus the professional commitment development of novice nurses was characterized by peaks and dips that were followed by changes in the commitment development. The analysis showed that turning points followed by positive commitment development typically were characterized by positive experiences. These experiences often concerned relatedness or competence. Turning points followed by a negative development were not consistent: they could be positive, negative, or ambiguous experiences. Many of the negative experiences concerned negative organizational issues. We concluded that there is not a simple relation between commitment development and positive or negative characteristics of an experience. The context and underlying meaning of the experiences should be taken into account to interpret the commitment changes.

ABSTRACT

Propose: This study aimed to propose an innovative, open, and circular program that combines acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness practices. We assessed its feasibility, acceptability, and first signs of its effect on psychological wellbeing in cancer support treatment. Methods: A single-center, single-arm, uncontrolled study was performed. Forty adult patients with non-metastatic prostate or breast cancer, newly diagnosed or undergoing treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy), were recruited. Three cycles of three MAEva program sessions (MAEva: Mindfulness meditation, Acceptance, and Commitment to values program) over nine consecutive weeks were proposed. During the total of 12 weeks of follow-up, after attending the first session, patients were free to attend subsequent sessions. Results: Adherence to the study was high, with participation in an average of 6.8 out of nine sessions. A total of eight patients attended all sessions over the three cycles, and 90% participated in at least one cycle. Furthermore, attendance was associated with a statistically significant improvement in Quality of Life (QoL). Each additional session was associated with a mean increase in overall QoL score of more than one point (ß = 1.09 [0.13; 2.04], p = 0.02). The fatigue dimensions decreased with session attendance: physical (ß = -2.24 [-3.63; -0.85]), emotional (ß = -2.60 [-4.11; -1.09]), and interference with daily life (ß = -2.33 [-3.95; -0.72]). The qualitative section demonstrated that patients learned skills and shared their ability to "let go". Patients rated the degree of importance of the program at 8.36/10 (SD ± 1.64). Conclusion: This study highlights the feasibility and acceptability of an original program that combines ACT and mindfulness practices in cancer patients. Future studies are required to demonstrate the efficacy of the MAEVA program. The MAEva pilot study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov under the identifier NCT04751201. Background: Chronic pain is an issue that affects over 100 million Americans daily. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has been found to be beneficial for patients with chronic pain by focusing provider efforts on teaching coping mechanisms for pain instead of eliminating the pain entirely. Current studies demonstrate that ACT significantly improves post-operative chronic pain scores and outcomes. Methods: The 200 patients chosen via random generator were collected and presented to (institution) orthopedic spine surgeons along with additional information such as the patients' history of present illness, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores, PROMIS-CAT Pain Interference scores, and status of opiate usage. Surgeons were blinded to the PCS cutoff scores. The (institution) orthopedic spine surgeons then identified which patients they would indicate for ACT and their reasoning. Pre-determined PCS score cut-offs were separately used to determine if a patient was indicated for ACT. Results: The effectiveness of this screening tool was based on the frequency at which the surgeons and PCS scores were complimentary. A department epidemiologist assisted in the analysis of the data with the use of a ROC curve. ROC Curve demonstrated an area under the curve of 0.7784 with a Sensitivity of 0.68 and a Specificity of 0.79. The cut point according to Youden's index is 35. The data showed that the PCS is moderately accurate in its ability to distinguish coinciding patients that the [institution] orthopedic spine surgeons referred for ACT. The adjusted cut-point indicates that patients above a PCS of 35 would be referred to ACT by the orthopedic spine surgeons while those below a PCS score of 35 would not be referred. Conclusions: Using the PCS, a referral with the department pain psychologist would occur by [institution] orthopedic spinal surgeons for patients that are deemed at-risk with a score of at least 35. The goal following this study is to perform future investigations regarding PCS and ACT with patients regarding chronic opioid use and postoperative outcomes. Patients who would be referred for help with chronic pain would be compared to PCS-referred patients and non-referred patients. Pre-operative ACT would be compared to patient outcomes post-operatively. The future aim is to use the cut-offs established in this study for experimental design to evaluate if PCS-referred patients have better pain management post-operatively as compared to the control and previously referred patients. ABSTRACT

Drawing on the social identity theory, this study aims to examine the impact of organizational pride and organizational identification as sequential mediators in the association between green HRM and employee environmental commitment. The study extended prior research by incorporating the sequential mediators of organizational pride and organizational identification. The researchers gathered data from 267 employees of telecommunications companies in Pakistan. They used Smart PLS software version 3.0 to carry out partial least squares structural equation modeling to verify the hypotheses. The results indicate that green HRM leads to organizational pride, which, in turn, leads to increased organizational identification and, consequently, enhances environmental commitment. The findings hold significant value to practitioners and HR managers striving to develop HR practices that support sustainability, contribute to a culture of environmental responsibility, and lead to positive green outcomes for employees.

Service-oriented organizational citizenship behavior refers to service workers' helping, cooperating, sharing, and donating actions that benefit others at a cost to themselves. Based on ethical climate theory, this research investigates whether corporations adopting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management enhance service-oriented organizational citizenship behavior (SO OCB) among service employees. A total of 230 surveys were collected from call center workers in the insurance industry, and STATA 14.0 was used to analyze the 204 responses with useable data. The results show that employees' recognized ESG activities enable SO OCB through organizational commitment. Additionally, ESG activity recognition has a positive relationship with self-efficacy and empowerment, which helps service employees regulate external expectations. Thus, this finding is significant for call center workers experiencing emotional labor. Furthermore, the results suggest that firms can contribute to employees' SO OCB by practicing ESG activities. Firms should inform employees of their ESG management efforts as employees' recognition of an ethical climate can enhance their willingness to perform service-oriented behavior. Finally, ESG activity recognition can increase employees' organizational commitment, an important predictor of employee satisfaction and negative turnover rates.

As customer service quality becomes an important factor that is responsible for the firms' overall successes, many organizations are trying to seek all related clues which can help them to enhance it. Thus, this research aimed to examine how job stress, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment affected customer service quality among bank employees in Cambodia. To accomplish this objective, 630 bank employees working at different banks in Cambodia were invited to answer questionnaires. Furthermore, a structural equation model was used to analyse data. Results indicated that banks could receive high organizational commitment when their employees obtained significant changes in job satisfaction and job stress. Meanwhile, banks could improve customer service quality if there were significant changes in organizational commitment and job stress, except job satisfaction. Finally, a mediation testing result confirmed organizational commitment as a full mediator between job satisfaction and customer service quality. Despite the results highlighted the significant impacts of job stress and organizational commitment on customer service quality, organizational commitment was the stronger factor promoting better customer service quality as this factor contributed higher degree of impact on customer service quality. Therefore, banks should pay more attention to prioritize and promote their organizational commitment among their employees.

Introduction: Chronic pain affects a wide range of physical and psychological aspects of life for those impacted. Psychosocial treatment approaches may be of support, but outreach is still limited. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of EPIO, an evidence-informed, user-centered digital self-management intervention for people with chronic pain, in a 12-month randomized controlled trial. Methods: People living with chronic pain (N = 266) were randomized to the EPIO intervention (n = 132) or a usual-care control group (n = 134). The intervention was delivered in a simple blended care model, and outcome measures collected at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months. Generalized linear models for repeated measures were fitted to compare groups over time. Results: Participants were primarily female (81%), median age 49 years (range 22-78), with heterogeneous pain conditions, and had lived with pain >5 years (77.6%). A mixed linear model with all timepoints included revealed no statistically significant group differences for the primary outcome of pain interference. Significant psychological benefits in favor of the intervention group were however detected for depression (P = 0.022), self-regulatory fatigue (P = 0.024), vitality (P = 0.016), and mental health (P = 0.047). Baseline to 12-month changes showed additional favorable effects for anxiety (between-group mean differences [MDs] = 0.79, P = 0.047), depression (MD = 1.08, P = 0.004), self-regulatory fatigue (MD = 2.42, P = 0.021), pain catastrophizing (MD = 2.62, P = 0.009), and health-related quality of life. Conclusions: The EPIO program aims to improve outreach of evidence-based pain self-management interventions. Findings demonstrate how using EPIO can lead to sustainable psychological change, enhancing mental health and health-related quality of life for people suffering from pain, providing a chance to live well with the pain.

This article presents analysis of results of quantitative study "Level of Commitment to Vaccination" based on author's original methodology of survey. The main medical and social causes of decreasing of level of population commitment to vaccination are explained. The purpose of the study is to quantitatively assess commitment to vaccination, to establish both dependence of level of commitment on risk factors of population refusal to be vaccinated and medical and social causes of this phenomenon. Materials and methods. In April-June 2023, sociological survey of respondents (n=300) aged from 19 to 75 years using the author's methodology was implemented. The statistical processing of materials was carried out using statistical software SPSS Statistics 23.0 using correlation analysis and descriptive statistics. The results and discussion. Using correlation analysis (according r-Spearman), dependence of level of commitment on number of medical and social factors was established. The readiness to vaccination depends on degree of trust to medicine. The accessibility of information about National Vaccination Calendar, vaccination scheme and vaccine effectiveness directly impact decision to be vaccinated. Conclusion. The development of complex of measures (technologies) improving population literacy through organization of informational and educational environment will reduce the number of unjustified refusals and increase level of population commitment to vaccination in general.

BACKGROUND: Differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into desired lineages is the key aspect of regenerative medicine and cell-based therapy. Although RNA interference (RNAi) technology is exploited extensively for this, methods for long term silencing of the target genes leading to differentiation remain a challenge. Sustained knockdown of the target gene by RNAi is often inefficient as a result of low delivery efficiencies, protocol induced toxicity and safety concerns related to viral vectors. Earlier, we established octa-arginine functionalized hydroxyapatite nano vehicles (R8HNPs) for delivery of small interfering RNA (siRNA) against a pluripotency marker gene in mouse embryonic stem cells. Although we demonstrated excellent knockdown efficiency of the target gene, sustained gene silencing leading to differentiation was yet to be achieved. METHODS: To establish a sustained non-viral gene silencing protocol using R8HNP, we investigated various methods of siRNA delivery: double delivery of adherent cells (Adh-D), suspension delivery followed by adherent delivery (Susp + Adh), single delivery in suspension (Susp-S) and multiple deliveries in suspension (Susp-R). Sustained knockdown of a pluripotent marker gene followed by differentiation was analysed by reverse transcriptase-PCR, fluoresence-activated cell sorting and immunofluorescence techniques. Impact on cell viability as a result of repeated exposure of the R8HNP was also tested. RESULTS: Amongst the protocols tested, the most efficient knockdown of the target gene for a prolonged period of time was obtained by repeated suspension delivery of the R8HNP-siRNA conjugate. The long-term silencing of a pluripotency marker gene resulted in differentiation of R1 ESCs predominantly towards the extra embryonic and ectodermal lineages. Cells displayed excellent tolerance to repeated exposures of R8HNPs. CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate that R8HNPs are promising, biocompatible, non-viral alternatives for prolonged gene silencing and obtaining differentiated cells for therapeutics.

Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in India are the subjects of this study, which explores the complex relationships between emotional labor (EL) and unstable work environments and how these relationships affect organizational commitment (OC). The study also looked at how organizational virtuousness (OV) and perceived social value mediated the relationship between precarious work (PW), EL, and OC. This study included a total sample size of N = 467 ASHA personnel from a variety of healthcare settings. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to look at the moderating effects using the Hayes Process Macro. The findings suggest that there are noteworthy negative associations between EL, PW, and the OC of ASHA workers. Nevertheless, OV and perceived social worth (PSW) emerged as significant moderators. More precisely, elevated levels of PSW and OV mitigated the adverse effects of PW and EL on the OC of ASHA workers.

Recent findings in health sciences and medical education highlight the importance of training healthcare professionals to interact with their patients in a culturally humble manner (Nadal et al., in Journal of Counseling and Development 92: 57-66, 2014; Pascoe & Smart Richman, in Psychological Bulletin 135: 531, 2009; Sirois & Burg, in Behavior Modification 27: 83-102, 2003; Williams & Mohammed, in Journal of Behavioral Medicine 32: 20-47, 2009). An important piece in the progression of our ability to address training challenges is the assessment of cultural humility. As an extension of previous research (Lombardero et al., in Journal of Clinical Psychology in Medical Settings, 30: 261-273, 2023), this study implemented an evidence-based cultural humility intervention (based on Acceptance and Commitment Training) to improve medical students' interactions with standardized patients (SPs) which was assessed via direct behavioral observation. Specifically, the observational measurement system was focused on culturally humble responses to patients reporting microaggressions to the medical professional. A pre-post comparison of the results demonstrated statistically significant improvements pertaining to participants' culturally humble responses to SPs' reports of microaggressions for one of the measurement scales used (i.e., ARISE), but not the other (i.e., Responsiveness to Racial Challenges Scale). Further analyses, on the bottom quartile of performers, were conducted to assess a possible ceiling effect of the scale that did not demonstrate significant change. These results and implications for future research will be discussed.

This article presents the concept and results of a study on the effects of organizational trust on the safety level in an enterprise. The research results presented provide valid and reliable statistical evidence that employees' trust in management is an important factor that significantly affects safety in a company. In particular, the research findings prove that employees' trust in management affects safety outcomes indirectly (full mediation), due to the improvement in their engagement in safety citizenship behaviour (SCB); but also that better engagement in SCB should directly or indirectly contribute to the reduction of accident event occurrence through improvement in employees' health and safety (H&S) regulation compliance (partial mediation). Moreover, the research findings prove that improvement in perceived management commitment in H&S will additionally strengthen positive relationships between trust in management and SCB engagement (interaction effect).

This study investigates the factors influencing employees' pro-environmental behavior (PEB) within organizations in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a nation with a strong policy focus on sustainability. Utilizing a questionnaire-based survey of 146 employees in an automotive division of a UAE company and structural equation modeling (SEM), the research examines the impact of green entrepreneurial orientation, green leadership, environmental commitment, and Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) on employees' willingness to engage in eco-friendly practices at work. The findings reveal that GHRM and green leadership significantly influence employees' green entrepreneurial orientation, which in turn, alongside environmental commitment, positively impacts PEB. These results emphasize the importance of integrating sustainability into organizational culture, leadership, and human resource practices to foster a workforce that actively participates in environmental initiatives, thereby contributing to the development of sustainable communities and enhancing stakeholder engagement. The study provides valuable insights into the specific factors that drive PEB in the UAE context, where national policies prioritize sustainability, highlighting that the importance of implementing green practices and promoting a supportive environment encourages employees and stakeholders to embrace environmental sustainability. The research also sheds light on the role of green entrepreneurial orientation, suggesting that empowering employees to develop innovative environmental solutions can be a key driver of PEB. The SEM analysis also confirmed the positive impact of GHRM and green leadership on green entrepreneurial orientation. Additionally, green entrepreneurial orientation and environmental commitment were found to significantly influence PEB. These results have practical implications for organizations in the UAE and beyond, emphasizing that by integrating eco-friendly practices and fostering stakeholder engagement, organizations can enhance their environmental performance, strengthen their reputation, and attract environmentally conscious customers and employees, contributing to the development of sustainable communities.

BACKGROUND: Patients living with various rare or orphan diseases (ROD) experience common psychosocial difficulties. Those need emerge from a combination of factors, such as the large variety of patients and the rarity of resources, as well as concentrated efforts on physical health needs that yielded increases in life expectancy and quality in patients. A gap is therefore rising in the consideration of psychosocial needs of patients, such as coping with the impacts of physical limitations, reducing social isolation and distress. To contribute to address this gap, we developed, pilot-tested and evaluated the acceptability, feasibility, implementation, and short-term effects of Connect-ROD, an online group intervention to support adult patients with a ROD (AP-ROD), which aims to improve coping mechanisms, reinforce sense of control, and support personal goals of AP-ROD. A qualitative study comprising of in-depth pretests, post-test interviews and standardized questionnaires, was conducted with 14 participants in two consecutive intervention groups. RESULTS: The Connect-ROD intervention is strongly anchored in acceptance and commitment therapy as well as community psychology approaches. A pilot test allowed us to improve on the initial structure and to produce a manualized 10-week program delivered online, made up of 2-h sessions comprising formal activities, exchanges and homework. The evaluation showed satisfactory acceptability and accessibility, compliant delivery by facilitators, and promising short-term effects on personal objectives, sense of control, coping mechanisms, symptom management, acceptance of the emotions associated with the disease, distress, self-efficacy, social support and connectedness. The program did not show short-term effects on overall quality of life. CONCLUSION: It is recommended that Connect-ROD is evaluated on a larger scale. It seems promising to support various AP-ROD who live with the complex psychosocial consequences of their disease.

ABSTRACT

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has been found efficacious in randomized clinical trials (RCTs), but the two widely known RCTs were conducted within the United States with predominantly White samples. Research that evaluates treatments like ACT for OCD outside the typical Western cultures is needed. The current scoping review summarizes the key characteristics and findings from 18 RCTs that evaluated ACT for OCD in Iran. These RCTs are largely unknown in the broader scientific literature despite representing the vast majority of ACT for OCD trials, in part because the majority are published in Persian. The preponderance of RCTs treated participants in groups, and most protocols did not include exposure exercises. Of 18 trials, 5 were single sex. Use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) was common with all participants on stable doses at pretreatment in many of the trials. Methodological quality was low to medium. ACT was inconsistent against nontraditional comparison conditions, slightly favorable to empirically validated treatments, and favorable compared with the waitlist and SSRIs. The process of change data indicated that ACT increased the psychological flexibility more than cognitive behavior therapy or SSRIs. These results highlight that findings on ACT for OCD from Western populations replicate and generalize to individuals in Iran. These findings also offer insights gained from studying ACT in Iran and significantly expand the literature based on ACT for OCD that can be integrated into scholarship by all researchers.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Children and adolescents with diabetes face challenges that can significantly impact their quality of life. Investigating psychological interventions for stress management can equip them with the skills needed to cope with type 1 diabetes. This study investigated the impact of a brief Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention on stress management, diabetes acceptance, psychological flexibility, and patient-doctor relationships among this population. Methods: A total of 55 children, and adolescents from Romania participated in a four-session ACT intervention for type 1 diabetes. The evaluation instruments used were the Perceived Stress Scale for Children (PSS-C), Acceptance and Action Diabetes Questionnaire (AADQ), Children's Psychological Flexibility Questionnaire (CPFQ), and Patient-Doctor Relationship Questionnaire (PDRQ-9). Results: The participants (mean age = 14.14, SD = 2.26; 67% girls) reported lower stress levels, increased acceptance of diabetes, and greater psychological flexibility after the intervention. Additionally, the patient-doctor relationship was enhanced, potentially improving patient adherence to treatment. Positive qualitative feedback mirrored previous ACT research in the paediatric population, highlighting the beneficial role of experiential activities and metaphors when working with this target group. Discussion: This study adds to the growing body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of ACT in enhancing healthy coping strategies among children and adolescents with chronic illnesses.

Modern organizations nowadays are striving to survive and thrive within the intense competition, complex environment, and ongoing globalization. Employees' innovative work behavior has become the primary vehicle for these organizations to achieve this aim. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of perceived organizational support (POS) and high commitment human resource practices (HCHRPs) on employee innovative work behaviors (IWB) within the moderating role of gender. Data was obtained from 359 academic staff members working in 124 higher education institutions in all emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Findings revealed that POS and HCHRPs are positively related to employee innovative work behaviors. Moreover, the moderating effect of gender on the direct relationship between POS and employee innovative work behaviors was significant, but not significant on the direct relationship between HRPs and employee innovative work behaviors. Implications of the findings for academics and practitioners were presented, and limitations and future research were discussed.

ABSTRACT

Advancements in cloud computing, flying ad-hoc networks, wireless sensor networks, artificial intelligence, big data, 5th generation mobile network and internet of things have led to the development of smart cities. Owing to their massive interconnectedness, high volumes of data are collected and exchanged over the public internet. Therefore, the exchanged messages are susceptible to numerous security and privacy threats across these open public channels. Although many security techniques have been designed to address this issue, most of them are still vulnerable to attacks while some deploy computationally extensive cryptographic operations such as bilinear pairings and blockchain. In this paper, we leverage on biometrics, error correction codes and fuzzy commitment schemes to develop a secure and energy efficient authentication scheme for the smart cities. This is informed by the fact that biometric data is cumbersome to reproduce and hence attacks such as side-channeling are thwarted. We formally analyze the security of our protocol using the Burrows-Abadi-Needham logic logic, which shows that our scheme achieves strong mutual authentication among the communicating entities. The semantic analysis of our protocol shows that it mitigates attacks such as de-synchronization, eavesdropping, session hijacking, forgery and side-channeling. In addition, its formal security analysis demonstrates that it is secure under the Canetti and Krawczyk attack model. In terms of performance, our scheme is shown to reduce the computation overheads by 20.7% and hence is the most efficient among the state-of-the-art protocols.
