ABSTRACT

Cutaneous bronchogenic cyst is a benign congenital anomaly of the embryonic foregut and is an extremely rare lesion. This lesion is localized in the suprasternum, neck, mandible, and shoulders. The authors experienced this diseases in a 7-year-old male with a palpable mass on the anterior chest wall since birth. The mass was soft, non-tender, well demarcated and 5x4 cm in size. The histopathologic finding was a ciliated pseudostratified columnar respiratory epithelium at the cyst inner wall. The histopathologic diagnosis was a cutaneous bronchogenic cyst. The differential diagnosis includes branchial cleft cyst, thyroglossal duct cyst, teratoma, and cutaneous ciliated cyst. The purpose of this report is to document a cutaneous bronchogenic cyst, located on the anterior chest wall, an unusual localization of this lesion. Since this cyst has a potential for malignancy, treatment should consist of complete excision with follow-up.

ABSTRACT

Cutaneous bronchogenic cyst is an anomalous structure that arises from the tracheobronchial tree during embryonic development and is usually located in the area of the manubrium sternum or suprasternal notch. Histopathologically, bronchogenic cyst is lined by ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelia with goblet cells. We report a case of cutaneous bronchogenic cyst in a 25-year-old male patient presented as a nodular lesion on the neck.

ABSTRACT

We report a case of cutaneous bronchogenic cyst accompanied by many lymphoid follicles histopathologically. A 6-year-old boy had an erythematous macule with a pinpoint-sized opening intermittently draining mucinous material on the anterior chest. Histopathologic findings showed an irregularly folded cystic structure extending from the deep dermis to subcutis. It was lined by ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium interspersed with PAS-positive goblet cells. Groups of submucosal glands, a strand of smooth muscle, and, interestingly several lymphoid follicles consisting of many mononuclear cells were also seen.

ABSTRACT

A 45 year old male patient complained of mucous fluid drainage in the vicinity af the manubrium sterni for 5 years. Skin around the lesion had normal appearance except pinpoint sized sinus opening. H.istopathology showed a cyst in the upper and mid-dermis which consisted of pseudoetratified columnar epithelium with interspersed goblet cells. Goblet; cells were confirmed by positive stain to D-PAS and alcian blue and by metachromatic stain to toluidine blue. VFe present here a case of cutaneous bronchogenic cyst clinically and histopathologically which is thought to be the first cace in Korea.
