ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: As smart speakers become more popular, there have been an increasing number of studies on how they may benefit older adults or how older adults perceive them. Despite the increasing ownership rates of smart speakers among older adults, studies that examine their integration and the long-term use in older adults' daily practices are scarce. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to uncover the integration of smart speakers into the daily practices of older adults over the long term, contributing to an in-depth understanding of maintained technology use among this demographic. METHODS: To achieve these objectives, the study interviewed 20 older adults who had been using smart speakers for over 6 months. These semistructured interviews enabled participants to share their insights and experiences regarding the maintained use of smart speakers in the long term. RESULTS: We identified 4 dimensions of the long-term use of smart speakers among older adults, including functional integration, spatial integration, cognitive integration, and semantic integration. For the functional integration of smart speakers, the study reported different types of use, including entertainment, information collection, medication reminders, companionship, environment modification, and emergency calls. For the spatial integration of smart speakers, the study showed older adults' agency in defining, changing, and reshaping daily practices through the spatial organization of smart speakers. For the cognitive integration of smart speakers, the findings showed the cognitive processes involved in adapting to and incorporating smart speakers into daily habits and routines. For the semantic integration of smart speakers, the findings revealed that older adults' enjoyable user experience and strong bonds with the device contributed to their acceptance of occasional functional errors. Finally, the study proposed several suggestions for designers and developers to better design smart speakers that promote maintainable use behaviors among older adults. CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of the findings, this study highlighted the importance of understanding how older adults use smart speakers and the practices through which they integrate them into their daily routines. The findings suggest that smart speakers can provide significant benefits for older adults, including increased convenience and improved quality of life. However, to promote maintainable use behaviors, designers and developers should consider more about the technology use contexts and the specific needs and preferences of older adults when designing these devices.

ABSTRACT

Background: Drugstores are preferred patients' channels of contact when getting minor ailments. Given the hike in both the prevalence and severity of influenza and acute childhood diarrhea, the role, and performances of pharmacy staff should be examined. Design and methods: A team of pharmacy students was voluntarily recruited and trained to play the role of simulated customer visiting 228 chosen community pharmacies in six districts in Can Tho city. This process is conducted from 2021 to 2022. Results: The study reveals detailed information about symptoms is the most common inquiry (99.2% in scenario 1). The consulting quality is poor, 85% of instances recorded to have no medical guidelines for influenza circumstances. Meanwhile, nearly four-fifths of pharmacists provide instructions on dosage intake. It is also found that length of services is statistically different between influenza and watery diarrhea (p < 0.05, CI = 95%). Conclusions: Clinical practices of community pharmacists, overall, are disappointing and far below expectations.

RESUMEN El objetivo de esta investigación cualitativa, que se apoya en el paradigma hermenéutico, es analizar desde la perspectiva de estudiantes de la educación media el reconocimiento del "valor del cuidado" que realizan sus madres cotidianamente para sostener la vida en el hogar como fundamento en el diseño de estrategias basadas en procesos de aprendizaje de asimilación y acomodación de Piaget, a fin de potenciar el vínculo didáctico madre-Tierra. Se entrevistaron 45 estudiantes de la Institución Educativa Alfonso Builes Correa, del municipio de Planeta Rica, departamento de Córdoba, y se identificaron sus conocimientos sobre el tema ambiental, el valor del cuidado en sus acciones cotidianas y la asociación con la madre-Tierra. Los resultados muestran que pocos estudiantes asumen una postura sistémica del ambiente e, igualmente, que en sus prácticas diarias no relacionan el cuidado materno como potencialidad para cuidar el ambiente; sin embargo, al someterlos a situaciones problematizadoras fueron capaces de relacionarlo. Se concluye que el análisis de las realidades del contexto desde una reflexión crítica permite armonizar la relación humanidad-naturaleza hacia nuevas formas de habitar para sustentar la vida en y del planeta.


ABSTRACT The objective of this qualitative research, which is based on the hermeneutical paradigm, is to analyze from the perspective of high school students the recognition of the "value of care" that their mothers carry out on a daily basis to sustain life at home as a foundation in the design of strategies based on Piaget's assimilation and accommodation learning processes, in order to enhance the mother-Earth didactic bond. 45 students from the Alfonso Builes Correa Educational Institution, from the municipality of Planeta Rica, state of Córdoba, were interviewed and their knowledge on the environmental issue, the value of care in their daily actions and the association with mother-Earth were identified. The results show that few students assume a systemic position of the environment and, likewise, that in their daily practices they do not relate maternal care as a potential to care for the environment; however by subjecting them to problematic situations, they were able to relate it. It is concluded that the analysis of the realities of the context from a critical reflection allows harmonizing the relationship between humanity and nature towards new ways of inhabiting to sustain life on and of the planet.


RESUMO O objetivo desta pesquisa qualitativa, que se baseia no paradigma hermenêutico, é analisar na perspectiva de estudantes do ensino médio o reconhecimento do "valor do cuidado" que suas mães realizam no dia a dia para sustentar a vida em casa como uma fundação em desenho de estratégias a partir dos processos de aprendizagem de assimilação e acomodação de Piaget, de forma a potencializar o vínculo didático mãe-Terra. Foram entrevistados 45 alunos da Instituição de Ensino Alfonso Builes Correa, do município de Planeta Rica, departamento de Córdoba, e identificados seus conhecimentos sobre a questão ambiental, o valor do cuidado no cotidiano e a associação com a mãe-Terra. Os resultados mostram que poucos alunos assumem uma postura sistémica do meio ambiente e, da mesma forma, que em suas práticas cotidianas não relacionam o cuidado materno como uma potencialidade para cuidar do meio ambiente; no entanto, ao submetê-los a situações problemáticas, eles foram capazes de relaciona-lo. Conclui-se que a análise das realidades do contexto a partir de uma reflexão crítica permite harmonizar a relação entre a humanidade e a natureza para novas formas de habitar para sustentar a vida no e no planeta.

ABSTRACT

Para este artículo se destacan las relaciones sociales y las prácticas cotidianas de 16 personas habitantes de calle que fueron entrevistadas en Medellín, Colombia, previo a un ejercicio de observación y aplicando la etnografía como modalidad a través de la cual se describieron y analizaron los resultados. Se identifica que la población habitante de calle se ha consolidado como un grupo que ha adoptado unas dinámicas sociales que los caracterizan y diferencian de otros grupos poblacionales en lo relacionado con prácticas de sobrevivencia y el modo de relacionarse con el contexto que les rodea, pese a que algunas de ellas son también extrapolables a un contexto social más amplio. Finalmente, el consumo de sustancias psicoactivas es transversal a las prácticas y relaciones de estos participantes.


For this article we highlight the social relationships and daily practices of 16 street people who were interviewed in Medellin, Colombia, prior to an observation exercise and applying ethnography as a modality through which the results were described and analyzed. It is identified that the street population has consolidated as a group that has adopted social dynamics that characterize them and differentiate them from other population groups in relation to survival practices and how to relate to the context surrounding them, despite that some of them are also extrapolated to a broader social context. Finally, the consumption of psychoactive substances is transversal to the practices and relationships of these participants.

ABSTRACT

O presente artigo trata de uma pesquisa realizada a respeito da violência na perspectiva de jovens bem como as maneiras que encontram para lidar com o contexto local, visto que a área está localizada no município de Timon-MA, uma zona de vulnerabilidade social. Para a produção de sentidos foi utilizada a prática da etnografia por meio do mapeamento do campo, estabelecendo vínculos e relações com os grupos de adolescentes, e dentre alguns os que tiveram maior contato foram os informantes da pesquisa. Esta foi elaborada no período de um mês, a fim de investigar de maneira singular e subjetiva a realidade do ambiente que os jovens estavam inseridos e as circunstâncias que nele estão implicadas. Para a análise das informações produzidas, foram adotadas como modelo as práticas comuns ou ordinárias de Michel de Certeau que se constituem em estratégias ou táticas que moldam a vida cotidiana. Somadas a essas informações, contribuem na análise os dados estatísticos da violência a partir dos estudos de Waiselfisz e Cerqueira et al., bem como em relação à situação de vulnerabilidade no contexto social por Abramovay et al. Considerando essas práticas como produtos da ordem socialmente imposta, os jovens revelaram na pesquisa uma reapropriação do cotidiano através de novas maneiras de fazer, abrindo espaço para uma nova arte de viver no mundo contemporâneo....(AU)


This is a research on violence according to youngsters' perspective as well as on the strategies they find to handle their local context, located in Timon-MA, an area of social vulnerability. Ethnographic practice was used for the production of meanings, by means of field mapping, establishing links and relations with groups of teenagers; those who had more contact were the informants of the research. This research took a month and aimed to investigate in both singular and subjective ways the reality of the environment in which the youngsters were and the circumstances that this context implied. For the analysis of the collected data, Michel de Certeau's common or ordinary practices were adopted as a model; these practices are strategies or tactics that shape everyday life. Waiselfisz and Cerqueira et al.'s statistical data on violence as well as Abramovay et al.'s studies on the situation of vulnerability in the social context contributed to this analysis. By considering these practices as products from the socially imposed order, the youngsters revealed in the research a re-appropriation of everyday life through new ways of doing, opening space for a new art of living in the contemporary work....(AU)


El presente artículo se trata de una investigación realizada sobre la violencia en la perspectiva de los jóvenes, así como las maneras que encuentran para lidiar con el contexto local, ya que el área está ubicada en el municipio de Timon-MA, una zona de vulnerabilidad social. Para la producción de sentidos se utilizó la práctica de la etnografía por medio del mapeo del campo, estableciendo vínculos y relaciones con los grupos de adolescentes, y entre algunos los que tuvieron mayor contacto fueron los informantes de la investigación. ABSTRACT

RESUMO: Neste artigo abordamos o quotidiano escolar nessa instituição, nas suas primeiras duas décadas e meia de existência, analisando como o modelo pedagógico alternativo se refletiu no controle dos corpos e das almas, nos uniformes, nas noções e práticas de higiene, na limpeza e saúde e como essa dimensão contribuiu para a educação integral dos alunos. O estudo foi desenvolvido com base no espólio documental da própria instituição, assim como na bibliografia publicada sobre o tema, recorrendo também a entrevistas, fotografias e objetos materiais que contribuem para uma compreensão adequada dessa escola nova e inovadora.


ABSTRACT: In this paper, we discuss the school daily life of this institution during its first two and a half decades of existence, analyzing how the alternative pedagogical model has been reflected in the control of bodies and souls, uniforms, notions and practices of hygiene, cleaning and health, and how this dimension has contributed to the comprehensive education of students. The study was developed using the institution's documental collection, as well as the published literature on the theme, also using interviews, photographs and material objects that contribute to an adequate comprehension of this new and innovative school.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to analyze the psycho-cultural processes involved in knitting "mochilas" (traditional bags), a common craft in the Arhuaco indigenous community located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. The article is structured in three parts, as follows: first, issues related to child development are discussed; then, the analysis method used to study the processes involved in the practice of knitting is presented and, finally, we reflect on the importance of recovering the sense and meaning of this everyday practice as a way to study child development.
