ABSTRACT

A dengue é uma das doenças virais mais distribuídas pelo mundo. Por meio de uma revisão integrativa, este estudo busca identificar os possíveis fatores socioambi- entais associados à prevalência dos casos de dengue. Foi realizada uma pesquisa em es- tudos indexados nas bases de dados: Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) e Literatura La- tino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), no período de 2017 a 2023, utilizando-se os seguintes descritores (DeCS): dengue, aedes aegypti e infecções por ar- bovírus. Em seguida, foram selecionados quinze trabalhos, que foram publicados em por- tuguês e espanhol. Os resultados mostraram que a dengue está relacionada a diversos fatores, ligados a esfera social e ambiental. Inicialmente, observou-se que o crescimento urbano desordenado desencadeou uma série de questões que contribuem para o aumento dos casos de dengue e o consequente impacto sobre a saúde pública. Entre os principais fatores sociais, verificou-se um crescimento populacional nas cidades, o que levou ao agravamento da desigualdade social, elevação das moradias precárias e necessidade de melhor infraestrutura. Entre os principais fatores ambientais, pode-se destacar a deficiên- cia no fornecimento de água, o que costuma levar as pessoas a buscarem armazenar água em reservatórios descobertos. Além disso, é comum a ocorrência do manejo inadequado dos resíduos sólidos. Portanto, o trabalho evidenciou os fatores que estão associados à prevalência da dengue, assim como mostrou a necessidade de investimento em diversas áreas, no intuito de diminuir a desigualdade social.


Dengue is one of the most widespread viral diseases in the world. Through an integrative review, this study seeks to identify possible socio-environmental factors associated with the prevalence of dengue cases. A search was carried out on studies in- dexed in the databases: Virtual Health Library (BVS) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), from 2017 to 2023, using the following de- scriptors (DeCS): dengue, aedes aegypti and arbovirus infections. Then, fifteen works were selected, which were published in Portuguese and Spanish. The results showed that dengue is related to several factors, linked to the social and environmental sphere. Ini- tially, it was observed that disorderly urban growth has triggered a series of issues that contribute to the increase in dengue cases and the consequent impact on public health. Among the main social factors, there was a population growth in the cities, which led to the worsening of social inequality, an increase in precarious housing and the need for better infrastructure. Among the main environmental factors, we can highlight the defi- ciency in the water supply, which usually leads people to seek to store water in uncovered reservoirs. In addition, the occurrence of inadequate management of solid waste is com- mon. Therefore, the work highlighted the factors that are associated with the prevalence of dengue, as well as showing the need for investment in several areas, in order to reduce social inequality.


El dengue es una de las enfermedades virales más extendidas en el mundo. A través de una revisión integradora, este estudio busca identificar posibles factores so- cioambientales asociados a la prevalencia de casos de dengue. Se realizó una búsqueda en estudios indexados en las bases de datos: Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS) y Litera- tura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS), de 2017 a 2023, utilizando los siguientes descriptores (DeCS): dengue, aedes aegypti y arbovirus infec- ciones Luego, quince obras fueron seleccionadas, que fueron publicadas en portugués y español. Los resultados mostraron que el dengue está relacionado con varios factores, vinculados a las esferas social y ambiental. Inicialmente, se observó que el crecimiento urbano desordenado desencadenó una serie de problemas que contribuyen al aumento de casos de dengue y el consecuente impacto en la salud pública. Entre los principales fac- tores sociales, hubo un crecimiento de la población en las ciudades, lo que condujo al recrudecimiento de la desigualdad social, aumento de la vivienda precaria y la necesidad de mejorar la infraestructura. Entre los principales factores ambientales, se puede destacar la deficiencia en el suministro de agua, lo que suele llevar a las personas a buscar alma- cenar agua en reservorios descubiertos. Además, es común la ocurrencia de un inade- cuado manejo de los residuos sólidos. Por lo tanto, el trabajo destacó los factores que están asociados a la prevalencia del dengue, además de mostrar la necesidad de inversión en varias áreas, con el fin de reducir la desigualdad social.

dengue é uma doença febril aguda com etiologia viral típica e de evolução benigna que é grave quando se apresenta na forma hemorrágica. Sua transmissão ocorre pela picada do Aedes aegypti, em um ciclo humano-Aedes aegypti-humano. Sendo assim, o cuidado e a prevenção contra a dengue é uma prática que deve ser sempre incentivada, especialmente em áreas de risco, além de buscar incluir a população como partícipes nas ações de prevenção contra essa arbovirose. O artigo trata-se de um relato de experiência cujo objetivo é descrever a experiência desenvolvida e vivenciada pelos acadêmicos do curso de graduação em Medicina da UniFipMoc-Afya durante o projeto de extensão "Caminho Contra a Dengue" que ocorreu em maio de 2022 no Parque Municipal Cândido Canelas, localizado no bairro Canelas, Montes Claros ­ MG. As ações realizadas tinham caráter socioeducativo, tendo como objetivo reconhecer e demarcar os determinantes da dengue dos bairros Canelas e Antônio Canelas, para se realizar uma sensibilização da comunidade local sobre as medidas preventivas contra a proliferação da doença e, dessa forma, contribuir para a integralização da saúde dos moradores. As estratégias empregadas trouxeram a reflexão, a problematização da pauta e a valorização de uma mudança de comportamento visando à diminuição da transmissão da dengue no bairro Antônio Canelas e no Canelas. Logo, esse conjunto de experiências proporcionou a possibilidade de promover um avanço no cuidado e na prevenção da dengue, colocando a própria comunidade como precursora e responsável pelos atos que irão fornecer uma promoção da saúde e melhorias em suas vidas.


Dengue is an acute febrile illness with a typical viral etiology and a benign course that is severe when it presents in the hemorrhagic form. Its transmission occurs through the bite of Aedes aegypti, in a human-Aedes aegypti-human cycle. Therefore, care and prevention against dengue is a practice that should always be encouraged, especially in risk areas, in addition to seeking to include the population as participants in prevention actions against this arbovirus. The article is an experience report whose objective is to describe the experience developed and lived by the academics of the undergraduate course in Medicine at UniFipMoc-Afya during the extension project "Caminho Contra a Dengue" that took place in May 2022 at Parque Municipal Cândido Canelas, located in the Canelas neighborhood, Montes Claros - MG. The actions carried out had a socio-educational character, with the objective of recognizing and demarcating the determinants of dengue in the Canelas and Antônio Canelas neighborhoods, in order to raise the awareness of the local community about preventive measures against the proliferation of the disease and, in this way, contribute to the integralization of the population. residents' health. The strategies used and employed brought reflection, problematization of the agenda and the appreciation of a change in behavior aimed at reducing dengue transmission in the Antônio Canelas and Canelas neighborhoods. Therefore, this set of experiences provided the possibility of promoting progress in the care and prevention of dengue, placing the community itself as a precursor and responsible for the acts that will provide health promotion and improvements in their lives.


El dengue es una enfermedad febril aguda de etiología vírica típica y evolución benigna que es grave cuando se presenta en forma hemorrágica. Su transmisión se produce por la picadura de Aedes aegypti, en un ciclo humano-Aedes aegypti-humano. Así, el cuidado y la prevención contra el dengue es una práctica que siempre debe ser incentivada, especialmente en las zonas de riesgo, y buscar incluir a la población como partícipe de las acciones preventivas contra esta arbovirosis. El artículo es un relato de experiencia cuyo objetivo es describir la experiencia desarrollada y vivida por estudiantes de pregrado de medicina de la UniFipMoc-Afya durante el proyecto de extensión "Camino Contra el Dengue", que tuvo lugar en mayo de 2022 en el Parque Municipal Cândido Canelas, ubicado en Canelas, Montes Claros - MG. Las acciones realizadas tuvieron un carácter socioeducativo, con el objetivo de reconocer y demarcar los determinantes del dengue en los barrios Canelas y Antônio Canelas, a fin de sensibilizar a la comunidad local sobre las medidas preventivas contra la proliferación de la enfermedad y contribuir así a la integralización de la salud de los residentes. Las estrategias empleadas propiciaron la reflexión, la problematización del tema y la valorización de un cambio de comportamiento dirigido a reducir la transmisión del dengue en los barrios Antônio Canelas y Canelas. Así, este conjunto de experiencias proporcionó la posibilidad de promover un avance en la atención y prevención del dengue, colocando a la propia comunidad como precursora y responsable de actos que proporcionarán una promoción de la salud y mejoras en sus vidas.

ABSTRACT

El mosquito Aedes aegypti, principal transmisor de la enfermedad de dengue en América, ha sido el responsable de más de 50,000 casos en Guatemala entre los años 2010-2017. Con el fin de establecer el área de distribución potencial de A. aegypti en Guatemala con base en datos climáticos, definir la relación espacial de casos de dengue con la probabilidad de presencia del vector y enfocar los puntos de transmisión potencial de dengue en Guatemala se llevaron a cabo dos modelos lineales generalizados. El modelo de distribución del vector fue alimentado con datos de la red Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), y el modelo de la relación entre el vector y la incidencia de casos, fue alimentado además, con datos del Sistema de Información Gerencial de Salud (SIGSA). Para ambos modelos se utilizó variables climáticas de WorldClim-Global Climate (1950-2000). Los logaritmos fueron calculados y evaluados en la plataforma estadística R y graficados en Quantum Geographic Information System. Los resultados muestran una alta probabilidad (.75-1.00) de presentar ocurrencias del vector en alguna región en 21 de los 22 departamentos con excepción de Totonicapán. Las principales variables que se encuentran relacionadas con la presencia del vector son la precipitación y la humedad. Se muestra además que en la región norte del país la incidencia de casos no se encuentra relacionada con la distribución potencial de A. aegypti lo que indica posible evidencia de la presencia de Aedes albopictus, como responsable de la transmisión de esta arbovirosis. Por último, se obtuvieron cinco regiones focales de mayor riesgo de transmisión de dengue las cuales pueden ser utilizadas como respaldo para la elección de sitios centinela para el control de este vector


e Aedes aegypti mosquito, the main transmitter of dengue disease in the Americas, has been responsible for more than 50,000 cases of dengue in Guatemala between the years 2010 and 2017. Two generalized linear models were develop in order to establish the potential distribution area of A. aegypti in Guatemala based on climatic data, defining the spatial relationship of dengue cases with the probability of the vector´s presence and focusing on the potential transmission points of dengue in country. Vector distribution model was fed with data from the Global GBIF network, and the model of the relationship between the vector and the incidence of cases was also fed with data from the Sistema Gerencial de Salud (SIGSA). Climate variables from WorldClim- Global Climate Data (1950-2000) were used for both models. e logarithms were calculated and evaluated in the statistical platform R and plotted in the Quantum Geographic Information System. e results show a high probability (.75-1.00) of occurrences of the vector in any region in 21 of the 22 departments, being Totonicapán the exception. e main variables that are related to the presence of the vector are precipitation and humidity. It is also shown that in the northern region of the country, the incidence of cases is not related to the potential distribution of A. aegypti, which indicates possible evidence of presence of Aedes albopictus as possible responsible for the transmission of this arbovirosis. Five focal regions with a higher risk of dengue transmission was obtained, which can be used as backup for the selection of sentinel sites used for the control of this vector

@#Field trials of Wolbachia-transinfected mosquitoes, as a biological approach to curb dengue transmission, have been initiated. This study aimed to determine the knowledge regarding dengue fever (DF), practice of vector control, and acceptance of Wolbachia as a dengue control method among Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC) healthcare staff. A questionnaire assessing knowledge regarding DF, vector control practices, and acceptance of Wolbachia was conducted among 330 UKMMC healthcare staff via convenience sampling. More than 70% of the respondents had good knowledge regarding DF, good vector control practice, and good acceptance of Wolbachia. Being female and having household income >MYR3000 had higher odds of having good knowledge regarding DF [(aOR 2.40; 95%CI 1.13, 5.12) and (aOR 3.86; 95%CI 1.91, 7.80)]. Having household income >MYR3000 had higher odds of having good vector control practice (aOR 2.33; 95%CI 1.20, 4.54) while academicians were three times (1-0.24) less likely to have good vector control practice than non-academicians (aOR 0.24; 95%CI 0.13, 0.48). Good acceptance of Wolbachia was associated with being academicians (aOR 8.83; 95%CI 2.60, 29.96) and having good knowledge regarding DF (aOR 6.07; 95% CI 2.89, 12.74). Gender, different income level and type of occupation have significant association with either good knowledge regarding DF or practice on vector control. Different type of occupation and level of knowledge also were notably significantly associated with good acceptance on Wolbachia as dengue biological control. These factors may be the focus for future plan to enhance the knowledge, acceptance and practice regarding DF and its control.

ABSTRACT

With increasing number of dengue cases in Malaysia, it’s of utmost importance that immediate action be taken to limit the epidemic. Since dengue control is a behavioral problem, the knowledge, attitude and practice in population needs to be studied in order to control the disease. Hence, the aim of this study is to assess knowledge, attitude and practice regarding dengue and its associated factors among adult residents of Felda Sungai Panching Timur (SPT), Kuantan, Pahang, 2014. Method: A cross sectional study was carried out involving 265 adult respondents. A face to face interview questionnaire which was divided into 2 parts (Part A: Sociodemoghraphic; Part B: Knowledge, Attitude and Practice) was used. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, simple and multiple logistic regression. Results: 53.2% of the respondents had good knowledge about dengue and it was found that the main source of information from mass media (76.6%). However, only 43.4% were found to have good attitude towards dengue. Multiple Logistic Regression analysis showed there was no association between sociodemographic characteristics with the level of knowledge and attitude towards dengue. There was also no association found between knowledge of dengue and the attitude of the respondents towards dengue. Descriptive analysis on the practice of dengue showed majority of the respondents who had possible breeding site for Aedes mosquitos (water container, drains/gutter roof/flower pots/tires) in their compound practiced good habit in preventing the Aedes mosquitoes from breed. Conclusion: Although knowledge and practice towards dengue is good, their attitude require improvement.

Introducción. La retroalimentación a las comunidades de la situación de dengue en su localidad, podría ser útil para mantener la motivación para su participación en el control del dengue y disminuir los índices entomológicos de Aedes . Objetivos. Evaluar la cobertura y el alcance de una intervención basada en la difusión masiva de reportes situacionales sobre el dengue y su efecto en la presencia de criaderos intradomiciliarios de Aedes spp. en Guadalajara de Buga, Colombia. Materiales y métodos. Se llevó a cabo un estudio observacional de corte transversal en 1.426 viviendas, para establecer la presencia de criaderos intradomiciliarios y caracterizar la exposición a la intervención. El efecto de la intervención se evaluó en un estudio de casos y controles. Los casos obedecieron al total de viviendas con criaderos positivos y, entre las viviendas sin criaderos positivos ubicadas en la misma manzana del caso, se seleccionaron aleatoriamente cuatro controles por caso. Resultados. El índice de viviendas positivas fue de 2,5 %. La cobertura fue del 59,4 % y el alcance del 22,3 %. El contacto con la intervención no se asoció con la ausencia de criaderos intradomiciliarios positivos. La presencia de matas con agua o floreros se asoció con criaderos positivos (p=0,01) y el uso de anjeos se consideró como factor protector (p=0,02). Conclusiones. Aunque la cobertura de la intervención fue adecuada, no se observó que tuviera efecto sobre la ausencia de criaderos intradomiciliarios positivos. Por lo tanto, se requiere la evaluación de la intervención en términos de su fidelidad, diseño y proceso de implementación.


Introduction: Maintaining communities abreast of their local dengue situation could help to keep them motivated to participate in dengue control and to decrease Aedes entomological indexes. Objectives: To evaluate the coverage and reach of an intervention based on mass-media communication of dengue surveillance reports and its effect on the presence of intra-domiciliary breeding sites for Aedes in Guadalajara de Buga, Colombia. Materials and methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted in 1,426 households to identify the intra-domiciliary breeding sites and to characterize the intervention exposure. To evaluate the effect of the intervention, a case-control study was performed. All households with positive breeding sites were considered as cases. Four controls per case were randomly selected among the non-positive breeding site households located on the same block of the case. Results: The positive house index was 2.5%; coverage was 59.4% and reach was 22.3%. There was no association between the intervention and the presence of intra-domiciliary breeding sites. The presence of water plants and flower pots were associated to positive breeding sites (p=0.01) and the use of screens was associated to the absence of breeding sites (p=0.02). Conclusions: Although intervention coverage was adequate, the lack of association between the intervention and the absence of positive breeding sites requires assessing its fidelity, factors related to the design, and the implementation process.
