ABSTRACT

Cognitive Self-Regulation Instruction (CSRI) program is a strategy-focused instruction with three instructional components for im-proving students’ writing product (direct teaching, modelling, and peer-practice). The present study aimed to explore whether the CSRI program leads to spontaneous transfer, improving the writing product (in terms of quality, structure, and text coherence) of an uninstructed genre (opinion text); and to examine whether the order in which the instructional compo-nents were implemented had an effect. A total of 126 students in their 4thyear of primary school participated in the study. They were randomly as-signed to one of two experimental conditions which received the CSRI but differed in the order the instructional components were delivered, or to a control condition which followed the traditional teaching approach. Our findings show that both CSRI sequences produced benefits in terms of greater structure and coherence of the writing product in the opinion text at post-test but not 8months after the intervention. In consequence, for students to be able to adequately transfer strategies to uninstructed text genres, they need teachers to teach them how to do it effectively.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Background: Many youth with posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) do not receive evidence-based care. Internet- and Mobile-Based Interventions (IMIs) comprising evidence-based trauma-focused components can address this gap, but research is scarce. Thus, we investigated the feasibility of a trauma-focused IMI for youth with PTSS.Methods: In a one-arm non-randomized prospective proof-of-concept study, 32 youths aged 15-21 years with clinically relevant PTSS (CATS ≥ 21) received access to a trauma-focused IMI with therapist guidance, comprising nine sessions on an eHealth platform accessible via web-browser. We used a feasibility framework assessing recruitment capability, sample characteristics, data collection, satisfaction, acceptability, study management abilities, safety aspects, and efficacy of the IMI in PTSS severity and related outcomes. Self-rated assessments took place pre-, mid-, post-intervention and at 3-month follow-up and clinician-rated assessments at baseline and post-intervention.Results: The sample mainly consisted of young adult females with interpersonal trauma and high PTSS levels (CATS, M = 31.63, SD = 7.64). The IMI sessions were found useful and comprehensible, whereas feasibility of trauma processing was perceived as difficult. Around one-third of participants (31%) completed the IMI's eight core sessions. The study completer analysis showed a significant reduction with large effects in self-rated PTSS at post-treatment [t(21) = 4.27; p < .001; d = 0.88] and follow-up [t(18) = 3.83; p = .001; d = 0.84], and clinician-rated PTSD severity at post-treatment [t(21) = 4.52; p < .001; d = 0.93]. The intention-to-treat analysis indicated significant reductions for PTSS at post-treatment and follow-up with large effect sizes (d = -0.97- -1.02). All participants experienced at least one negative effect, with the most common being the resurfacing of unpleasant memories (n = 17/22, 77%).Conclusion: The study reached highly burdened young adults. The IMI was accepted in terms of usefulness and comprehensibility but many youths did not complete all sessions. Exploration of strategies to improve adherence in trauma-focused IMIs for youth is warranted, alongside the evaluation of the IMI's efficacy in a subsequent randomized controlled trial.

Youth often lack access to evidence-based care after trauma. This study assessed the feasibility of a trauma-focused internet- and mobile-based intervention with therapist guidance. The intervention was accepted by youths, and the preliminary evaluation of participant responses suggests its efficacy.Future studies should examine strategies to improve adherence and the IMI's efficacy in a RCT.

ABSTRACT

The article examines the impact of artificial intelligence on scientific writing, with a particular focus on its application in hospital pharmacy. It analyzes artificial intelligence tools that enhance information retrieval, literature analysis, writing quality, and manuscript drafting. Chatbots like Consensus, along with platforms such as Scite and SciSpace, enable precise searches in scientific databases, providing evidence-based responses and references. SciSpace facilitates the generation of comparative tables and the formulation of queries regarding studies, while ResearchRabbit maps the scientific literature to identify trends. Tools like DeepL and ProWritingAid improve writing quality by correcting grammatical, stylistic, and plagiarism errors. A.R.I.A. enhances reference management, and Jenny AI assists in overcoming writer's block. Python libraries such as LangChain enable advanced semantic searches and the creation of agents. Despite their benefits, artificial intelligence raises ethical concerns including biases, misinformation, and plagiarism. The importance of responsible use and critical review by experts is emphasized. In hospital pharmacy, artificial intelligence can enhance efficiency and precision in research and scientific communication. Pharmacists can use these tools to stay updated, enhance the quality of their publications, optimize information management, and facilitate clinical decision-making. In conclusion, artificial intelligence is a powerful tool for hospital pharmacy, provided it is used responsibly and ethically.

ABSTRACT

The Chi-squared χ² test was applied, with 95% confidence, from which significant relationships were found between the variables. The results show that when students plan their writing, they take into account their audience, as well as the purpose of their writing, finding a significant relationship between these variables (p-value 0.0185). In the same way, anassociation was found between those who set goals for writing and motivation (p-value 0.0004). A correlation is observed between university students who structure complete sentences when they write and the ability to present their ideas clearly and precisely (p-value 0.0021), as well as to adequately organize the elements of an explanatory-expository text, with the knowledge of textual structures (p-value 0.0248). It is important to make university students aware of textual planning in order to produce quality writing. Higher Education Institutions should design and implement educational programs that promote academic writing in the curriculum as part of the integral formation of students, since it is an indispensable factor in the world of work.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is to analyse the reading and writing achievement of Spanish school children following an intervention con-ducted at an early age. The purpose of the intervention is to prioritise and systematise instruction in the alphabetic principles, phonological aware-ness, reading fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. The sample consists of 126 subjects, distributed between an instructed group(n=62) and an uninstructed group (n=64). All the subjects were from average so-cio-cultural areas, with normal intelligence and with no physical, mental, and/or sensory deficits. Subjects were evaluated from the second year of Early Years Education (4 years of age) up to the first year of Primary Edu-cation (six years of age). The design was longitudinal with repeated meas-urements (four assessments), three intervention phases, two study variables (reading achievement and writing achievement), and two groups of sub-jects. Descriptive statistical analysis and repeated measures analyses of var-iance were performed. The results obtained indicate higher scores in read-ing and writing throughout all the assessments and significantly greater progress in the instructed group. These results demonstrate the effective-ness of early intervention in written language through systematic instruc-tion in phonological awareness, the alphabetic principles, reading fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension.(AU)

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Both the teaching of writing and the way it is evaluated constitute major challenges in higher education. The use of evaluative strategies can help remediate deficiencies in writing skills by being not only an exhaustive and didactic evaluation resource, but also a guide for the development of the text itself. OBJECTIVE: Develop evaluative methodologies to improve aspects of form and content in the writing of academic texts in Nursing. METHODOLOGY: The project had three phases that considered the construction of two instruments (phase 1), their application in an academic text (thesis report) and respective adjustments (phase 2), and, finally, the evaluation of said application. RESULTS: Two analytical headings were obtained (quantitative methodology and qualitative methodology), consisting of the items of FORM (writing aspects) and CONTENT (research aspects), respectively, which were applied three times to the text to evaluate its progress. Improvements were observed in the overall rating, in the areas of coherence and cohesion in FORM, and in the theoretical framework, results, and methodology in CONTENT. DISCUSSION: Analytical rubrics are a very useful tool when evaluating academic texts. They are extremely comprehensive instruments because they look at the process as a whole, serving not only as an evaluative tool, but also as a training opportunity for students, providing a guide for the development of academic writing skills.

ABSTRACT

This article intends to examine the citation practices in a set of exams taken by students who begin their university careers in an Argentine institution, in particular the ways in which two types of citations are constructed: textual citations and reformulation citations. Due to the recurring difficulties that are observed in this incorporation, it seeks to categorize these problems and determine their frequency of appearance. The analysis material is made up of a sample of eight hundred exams belonging to two initial courses that were dictated under the virtual and face-to-face modality. This study on the one hand, reports on various problems that arise in citation practices and that involve both aspects that can be included in the formal level and those that go beyond it. On the other, it shows that the distribution of these ruptures is not always equivalent. Some of these transgressions could be attributed to the encounter between the first-year students with academic conventions alien to their previous experiences; however many of them show students with little training in reading and writing.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The biomedical research process must follow certain quality criteria in its design and development to ensure that the results are credible and reliable. Once completed, the time comes to write an article for publication. The article must present in sufficient detail, and in a clear and transparent manner, all the information on the research work that has been carried out. In this way, readers, after a critical reading of the published content, will be able to judge the validity and relevance of the study and, if they so wish, make use of the findings. In order to improve the description of the research process for publication, a series of guidelines have been developed which, in a simple and structured way, guide authors in the preparation of a manuscript. They are presented in the form of a list, flowchart, or structured text, and are an invaluable aid when writing an article. This article presents the reporting guidelines for the most common designs along with the corresponding checklists.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The collection of indubitable samples when a corpus of handwriting is taken from a person is an extremely important process in handwriting expertise. There are parameters by which handwriting experts are governed when making such a writing corpus, which generally focus on the position of the scribe, writing speed, spontaneity, number of samples, among others. However, the scribe may try to alter or manipulate it in different ways, usually in an attempt to hinder the expert's work. Thus, there are several elements that indicate to a handwriting expert that an attempt is being made to modify the handwriting or signature during this process from a technical point of view. In this sense, the aim of this study is to highlight the importance of compiling a handwriting corpus with all the guarantees that it can be treated as an unquestionable document, as well as highlighting the importance of the expert having the ability to confirm the scribe's sincerity, both through the analysis of their handwriting (graphology) and through the analysis of their non-verbal communication at the time of writing. A qualitative methodology has been used, using the documentary information technique, by means of the collection of information for study and analysis, as well as monographs, study manuals and scientific articles.

ABSTRACT

This research aims to fill the need to provide writing education to preservice teachers by using web-based instruction. The novel contribution of this work lies in the consideration of beliefs as a methodological prerequisite when measuring the effects of a web-based program. For this purpose, latent profile analysis was conducted to explore unique profiles of preservice teachers’ beliefs about writing before the web-based instruction. Participants were classified into three profiles: eclectic profile (n = 129), socio-cultural profile (n = 85), and person-environment profile (n = 105). Linear mixed-effects models were employed to assess if belief profiles experienced changes in beliefs and knowledge after the training. Results showed that belief profiles differed from each other in the degree of attribution of the different beliefs but remarkably all of them experienced significant differences in content knowledge acquisition. Finally, educational implications for preservice teachers’ education are highlighted.(AU)

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: The treatment of autism was a challenge since its description, especially in non-speaking (NS) or minimally speaking (MS) people, who receive little attention from scientific literature and represent a high health care cost. The year 2022 marked the 25th anniversary of an approach to NS/MS autism redesigned in Argentina and carried out through synchronous typewriting (Phaedrus Approach). The objective of this work was to review and describe for the first time the clinical changes (CC) after intervention. METHODS: A systematic descriptive review of the CC reports was carried out, based on a series of cases addressed with the intervention under study. RESULTS: The reports of the 10 most frequent CC in the sample were described, which appeared on average after 13.8 months of treatment. Each case presented 7.5 CC, with similar results between diagnoses prior to treatment and with some differences in favor of female gender, those under 10 years of age at the start of treatment, and NS people. While 100% acceded to independent typewriting, 71% achieved or improved speech afterwards. DISCUSSION: The 7 most frequent CC represent key aspects of autism treatment. Although more studies are required, the results are very promising and represent a substantial contribution to the scientific evidence. This approach could be cost-effective for NS/MS autism spectrum disorder and could be of interest for other problems at the intersection of mental health and public health.
