ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to analyze and visualize the top dental papers from 2012 to 2022 using data from essential science indicators (ESIs). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was conducted using library and retrospective bibliometric analysis methods. Additionally, a science map has been created. Web of Science was searched on January 18, 2023. The results were limited to the top papers in ESIs. The bibliometric information of the top papers was evaluated. Next, the VOSviewer was used to perform a co-occurrence analysis and visualize data. RESULTS: The findings showed that Mariano Belén Sanz and Maurizio S. Tonetti were the top two authors. The University of London and the University of Bern had the highest number of articles. These articles were published in 55 journals. According to the analysis of keyword co-occurrence, the most frequently used keywords in the field of dentistry include "periodontitis," "dental implants," "periodontal disease," "mechanical properties," "peri-implantitis," "oral health," "dental caries," "dental materials," "3D printing." CONCLUSION: The findings of this study enable readers to pinpoint the authors, organizations, countries, and journals that have made the biggest contributions to the list of the most often cited dentistry papers. In medicine, bibliometric citation analysis is frequently used to assist researchers in learning the fundamentals of a subject and pinpoint subtopics of broad interest for additional study.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the global research hotspots in the field of pediatrics based on the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database and explore the inspiration to domestic editors and pediatrics researchers. Methods:The journal distribution, country (region) distribution, cooperation, organization distribution, funding, publication language, hot topic words and other data of highly cited papers in the field of pediatrics in ESI database were collected and analyzed. Results:A total of 682 highly cited pediatrics papers were collected from 77 pediatrics journals included in Science Citation Index(SCI). Most of the highly cited pediatrics papers (182) were found to be published in Pediatrics. All 682 paper were published in English and frequently, characterized by multiple authors, institutions and fund support.Of 682 highly cited pediatrics papers, 435 papers were published in the United States(the first), 123 papers in England(the second) and 86 paper in Canada(the third). Novel coronavirus pneumonia, coronavirus, SARS coronavirus, autism and multiple system inflammatory syndrome are the main frontiers of global pediatric research at present.Specifically, focal pediatric system diseases mainly include respiratory system diseases, digestive system diseases, cardiovascular diseases, etc. Conclusions:ESI-based analysis of global research hotspots in the field of pediatrics provides reference materials for domestic and foreign pediatrics researchers to understand the global academic frontiers and development trends in the field of pediatrics and select topics for future scientific research.More importantly, this analysis can help domestic editors of pediatrics journals to plan topics and organize hot papers, so as to improve the academic quality and international influence of the journals.

ABSTRACT

@#To promote the construction of first-class disciplines of "Double First-Class" universities in China, the construction of a comprehensive evaluation system was explored, so as to provide suggestions for the development of these disciplines.Essential Science Indicators (ESI), InCites and Derwent Innovation Index databases, together with range transformation method and entropy weight method, were employed to analyze the data in the field of pharmacology and toxicology from some universities; the construction approaches and index performance of the system were studied. The score performances of the sample universities in the index system are different from their ESI rankings, suggesting that the system has certain practical value.ESI rankings cannot fully reflect the development levels of disciplines, while the multi-dimensional index evaluation system can overcome this shortcoming to a certain extent. This paper establishes an evaluation system with published papers and granted patents as the main evaluation objects, covering as many multi-angle indicators of scientific research output as possible, and trying to overcome the disadvantages due to lack of information in a single or few index systems. It is suggested that universities should formulate their discipline development plans from the perspectives of publishing high-quality original research results, leading or widely participating in scientific research cooperation, strengthening university-enterprise cooperation, promoting the application of research results, promoting open science and encouraging open access.

ABSTRACT

In the Strategic Academic Leadership Program, the number of publications included in the 1% of the most cited ones in the Web of Science Core Collection database over previous 10 full years is used as an indicator of research potential of universities and scientific centers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the segment of Highly Cited Papers and Hot Papers on surgery using the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) analytical application. According to ESI data, relevant for March 2020, highly cited publications on medicine have formed 2.425 research fronts including 211 ones in surgery. We have analyzed the directions of researches in surgery characterized by the greatest number of citations.

ABSTRACT

Highly cited papers in the Essential Science Indicators database refer to papers with citations in the top 1% of all papers in a research field, and they are considered to be symbols of scientific excellence and top performance of the past ten years. This study provided an informetric analysis of 7791 highly cited papers in the environmental sciences category during 2009-2019. Informetric indicators and visualization tools were applied to evaluate and present the performances of journals, countries/territories, institutions, top cited papers, and research hotspots. The results showed that the cumulative number of publications has increased exponentially, suggesting strong development of the environmental sciences category. There were 211 journals publishing highly cited papers, with Energy & Environmental Science as the leading journal. The USA ranked first with the highest number of publications and occupied the core position in the collaboration network, while Mainland China took the first place in independent research output. Review articles have an obvious advantage in terms of achieving high citations. "Adsorption", "climate change", and "heavy metal" were the most frequent keywords, with "microplastic" rising rapidly as a new research frontier in recent years. Five research hotspots were visualized from highly cited papers via cluster analysis.

ABSTRACT

The disciplinary profiles of the mean citation rates across 22 research areas were analyzed for 107 countries/territories that published at least 3,000 papers that exceeded the entrance thresholds for the Essential Science Indicators (ESI; Clarivate Analytics) during the period from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2019. The matrix of pairwise differences between any two profiles was analyzed with a non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) algorithm, which recovered a two-dimensional geometric space describing these differences. These two dimensions, Dim1 and Dim2, described 5,671 pairwise differences between countries' disciplinary profiles with a sufficient accuracy (stress = 0.098). A significant correlation (r = 0.81, N = 107, p < 0.0001) was found between Dim1 and the Indicator of a Nation's Scientific Impact (INSI), which was computed as a composite of the average and the top citation rates. The scientific impact ranking of countries derived from the pairwise differences between disciplinary profiles seems to be more accurate and realistic compared with more traditional citation indices.
