ABSTRACT

Abstract Psychological well-being is an important protective factor for mental health, particularly in vulnerable populations such as the elderly. Therefore, it is necessary to have valid, reliable, and invariant measurement instruments for their proper use for psychological assessment and intervention purposes. This study aimed to analyze the evidence of validity, reliability, and factor invariance of the Psychological Well-Being Scale (BIEPS-A) in a sample of older Peruvian adults. Participants were 522 older adults, from 60 to 93 years old (M = 70.81, SD = 7.62), who answered the BIEPS-A Scale. Adequate fit indices were found for a model of three correlated factors: x2/gl = 1.631, CFI = .988, TLI = .984, SRMR = .0470, and RMSEA = .0350. A relationship was also found between the scores of the BIESP-A and the WHO-5 (r = .504, r2 = .254), which is evidence of convergent validity. Likewise, evidence of reliability of the scores with the alpha (α) and omega (ω) coefficients (> .80) was found. Finally, partial evidence of factor invariance based on gender was found (ΔCFI < .010, ΔRMSEA < .015). It was concluded that the BIEPS-A scale gathers evidence of validity, reliability and partial invariance with respect to sex for its correct use in older Peruvian adults.

ABSTRACT

Romantic love myths refer to culturally shared beliefs about love, falling in love and relationships. Their study and evaluation are of utmost importance, given that they have been recognized as a risk factor in dating violence with serious implications for the well-being and mental health of young people. The aim of the present study was therefore to develop a scale to evaluate beliefs about romantic love, establishing evidence of reliability and validity for the interpretation of the scores obtained. An instrumental cross-sectional design was carried out, applying the Multidimensional Romantic Love Myths Scale (MRL-MS) to a sample of 1001 Chilean young people between 18 and 25 years of age. As a result, a scale composed of 40 items assessing 8 interrelated dimensions was obtained, with evidence of validity based on internal structure, adequate levels of reliability, and evidence of metric and scalar invariance between sexes. Finally, the limitations of the study are discussed and possible applications and guidelines for future research are proposed.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The fear of being single can lead to changes in the quality of life of individuals, which may affect their well-being and self-esteem. This research aimed to validate the Fear of Being Single Scale (FBSS) for Brazil, presenting evidence of its psychometric quality through two studies. Study 1 had 172 participants (Age M = 23.69, SD = 7.77; 64.5% women) and replicated the one-factor structure of the instrument, with six items. Study 2 had 220 participants (Age M = 21.90, SD = 5.64; 59.5% women) and confirmed the structure using a CFA, with satisfactory indices (CFI = .96; TLI = .94), and provided evidence for the factorial invariance of the instrument, in relation to participants' relationship status. Additionally, convergent validity was presented through significant correlations with loneliness and life satisfaction scores, and a difference was also observed between men and women regarding the fear of being single. Finally, the scale showed adequate levels of reliability (Cronbach's alpha, α = 0.88) and composite reliability (CR = 0.82). In conclusion, the scale presented satisfactory evidence for its use in a Brazilian context.
