Photoperiod-dependent release of suppression pheromone in the male lobster cockroach Nauphoeta cinerea.

The complex agonistic repertoire between male lobster cockroaches (Nauphoeta cinerea) makes this species an excellent model for aggression studies. During the establishment of dominance hierarchies, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone (3H-2B) functions as a suppression pheromone, keeping the rivals in a submissive state. In the present study, we evaluated the release of 3H-2B by dominant individuals across four different time phases within the 24-h photoperiod, i.e., early scotophase (ES), late scotophase (LS), early photophase (EP), and late photophase (LP). For each time phase, we collected volatile pheromones during a 60-min first-encounter fight to measure the level of released 3H-2B. Subsequently, the amount of 3H-2B remaining in the sternal glands of dominant and subordinate individuals was measured and compared to socially naïve male controls. Release of 3H-2B was relatively high during ES or LP first-encounter fights, compared to LS or EP encounters. The attack duration and aggressive posture intensity in dominant males were positively correlated with the amount of 3H-2B release in all four phases. A similar statistical distribution was found between the amount of 3H-2B released by dominant males and the amount of 3H-2B in the sternal glands of naïve male sternal during LS, EP, and LP. However, during ES, the statistical distribution of 3H-2B released by the dominant was significantly greater than the distribution of 3H-2B content in socially naïve male sternal glands. The observed phase-dependence of 3H-2B release might be due to variations in 3H-2B biosynthesis or the scotophase-specific behavior of naïve males, wherein an aggressive posture is spontaneously adopted with concomitant 3H-2B release.

Este trabalho está centrado em torno das produções psíquicas específicas que podem surgir na mente do analista. Inicia-se a partir do encontro inicial, onde já se constitui o embrião dos futuros movimentos transferenciais/contratransferenciais. Estas produções psíquicas específicas são figurações que tomam a forma de "produções insólitas", sendo falhas na representação e guiadas por uma escuta regrediente. Apresenta-se, assim, uma nova perspectiva de grande complexidade que faz inferências acerca da dimensão de continuidade/descontinuidade entre os dois psiquismos que estão trabalhando. Este funcionamento específico, moldado por uma escuta regrediente, leva o analista a um movimento de antecipação no processo. Trata-se de movimento que consequentemente precede e sustenta o trabalho de representação do paciente. É proposta uma análise metapsicológicas dessa escuta regrediente do analista. As "produções insólitas", formadas na mente do analista, impõem um caráter desprazeroso e enigmático. Entretanto, sua elaboração pode transformá-las em instrumentos fundamentais no devir do tratamento (AU).

This paper focuses on the specific psychic productions that may arise in the mind of the analyst. It starts from the initial encounter, in which the embryo of the coming transference-countertransference movements is constituted. These specific psychic productions are configurations that take the form of "unusual productions", being failures in the representation, guided by a regredient listening. A new perspective of great complexity arises, which infers about the dimension of continuity/ discontinuity between the two psyches at work. This specific operation patterned by a regredient listening leads the analyst to a movement of anticipation in the process. Such movement therefore precedes and underpins the work of representing of the patient. A metapsychological analysis of this regredient listening of the analyst is proposed. The "unusual productions" formed in the analyst's mind impose a displeasurable and enigmatic feature. However, its processing can transform them into essential tools in the course of the cure (AU).

Primeiro encontro com o analista: campo potencial para o desenvolvimento da análise / First encounter with the psychoanalyst: potential -eld for the development of analysis / Primer encuentro con el psicoanalista: campo potencial para el desarrollo del análisis

O presente artigo tem por objetivo focalizar o primeiro encontro do paciente com o analista. Como peculiaridade desse momento inicial, a autora sugere quatro aspectos a serem observados: (1) a atenção aos movimentos do paciente antes da chegada efetiva ao consultório, que informam sobre a urgência, as possibilidades e as resistências do paciente para a análise; (2) a observação inconsciente do paciente às condições mentais do analista para o acolhimento das identificações projetivas (viver o que precisa ser vivido); (3) o exame inconsciente do analista sobre sua própria disponibilidade interna para aquele paciente; (4) a apresentação ao paciente da singularidade da relação analítica, da escuta e do alcance da psicanálise, não em termos verbais, mas nos gestos e atitudes que compõem o exercício da função analítica. A autora sugere que é essa comunicação inconsciente o fator principal para a decisão sobre o início ou não do processo analítico. Daí a ideia de que o primeiro encontro é um campo potencial para o desenvolvimento da análise, como está expresso no título do artigo.

The aim of this paper is to focus on the first encounter between patient and analyst. The author suggests four aspects to be observed as peculiarities of this initial moment: (1) the attention to the patient's actions before arriving at the analyst's office. Those acts convey the patient's urgency, possibilities and resistance to analysis; (2) the patient's unconscious observation of the analyst's mental conditions to receive the projective identification (live what has to be lived); (3) the analyst's unconscious examination of his own internal availability for that patient; (4) the presentation to the patient of the singularity that characterizes the analytic relationship, the listening and the reach of psychoanalysis, not in verbal terms, but in gestures and attitudes that compose the exercise of the analytic function. The author suggests that this unconscious communication is the main factor in the decision of whether or not to start the analytic process. This explains the idea that the first meeting between analyst and patient is the potential field for analysis development, as expressed in the title of the article.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo centrarse en el primer encuentro del paciente con el analista. Como peculiaridad de este momento inicial, la autora sugiere cuatro puntos a tener en cuenta: (1) la atención a los movimientos del paciente antes de la llegada efectiva a la oficina, que informan sobre la urgencia, las posibilidades y la resistencia del paciente ante el análisis; (2 ) la observación inconsciente del paciente sobre las condiciones mentales del analista para albergar las identificaciones proyectivas (vivir lo que necesita ser vivido); (3) el examen inconsciente del analista sobre su propia disponibilidad interna para ese paciente; (4) la presentación al paciente de la singularidad de la relación analítica, del escuchar y del alcance del psicoanálisis, no verbalmente, sino en gestos y actitudes que componen el ejercicio de la función analítica. La autora sugiere que esta comunicación inconsciente es el factor principal para la decisión sobre el inicio del proceso analítico. De ahí la idea de que el primer encuentro es un campo potencial para el desarrollo del análisis, como se expresa en el título de este artículo.
