ABSTRACT

Sound classification plays a crucial role in enhancing the interpretation, analysis, and use of acoustic data, leading to a wide range of practical applications, of which environmental sound analysis is one of the most important. In this paper, we explore the representation of audio data as graphs in the context of sound classification. We propose a methodology that leverages pre-trained audio models to extract deep features from audio files, which are then employed as node information to build graphs. Subsequently, we train various graph neural networks (GNNs), specifically graph convolutional networks (GCNs), GraphSAGE, and graph attention networks (GATs), to solve multi-class audio classification problems. Our findings underscore the effectiveness of employing graphs to represent audio data. Moreover, they highlight the competitive performance of GNNs in sound classification endeavors, with the GAT model emerging as the top performer, achieving a mean accuracy of 83% in classifying environmental sounds and 91% in identifying the land cover of a site based on its audio recording. In conclusion, this study provides novel insights into the potential of graph representation learning techniques for analyzing audio data.

ABSTRACT

This research investigates the application of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to enhance the cost-effectiveness of drug development, addressing the limitations of cost and time. Class imbalances within classification datasets, such as the discrepancy between active and inactive compounds, give rise to difficulties that can be resolved through strategies like oversampling, undersampling, and manipulation of the loss function. A comparison is conducted between three distinct datasets using three different GNN architectures. This benchmarking research can steer future investigations and enhance the efficacy of GNNs in drug discovery and design. Three hundred models for each combination of architecture and dataset were trained using hyperparameter tuning techniques and evaluated using a range of metrics. Notably, the oversampling technique outperforms eight experiments, showcasing its potential. While balancing techniques boost imbalanced dataset models, their efficacy depends on dataset specifics and problem type. Although oversampling aids molecular graph datasets, more research is needed to optimize its usage and explore other class imbalance solutions.

ABSTRACT

Frost forecast is an important issue in climate research because of its economic impact on several industries. In this study, we propose GRAST-Frost, a graph neural network (GNN) with spatio-temporal architecture, which is used to predict minimum temperatures and the incidence of frost. We developed an IoT platform capable of acquiring weather data from an experimental site, and in addition, data were collected from 10 weather stations in close proximity to the aforementioned site. The model considers spatial and temporal relations while processing multiple time series simultaneously. Performing predictions of 6, 12, 24, and 48 h in advance, this model outperforms classical time series forecasting methods, including linear and nonlinear machine learning methods, simple deep learning architectures, and nongraph deep learning models. In addition, we show that our model significantly improves on the current state of the art of frost forecasting methods.
