ABSTRACT

For the analysis of art works, accurate identification of various elements of works through deep learning methods is helpful for artists to appreciate and learn works. In this study, we leverage deep learning methodologies to precisely identify the diverse elements within graphic art designs, aiding artists in their appreciation and learning process. Our approach involves integrating the attention mechanism into an enhanced Single Shot MultiBox Detector (SSD) model to refine the recognition of artistic design elements. Additionally, we improve the feature fusion structure of the SSD model by incorporating long-range attention mechanism information, thus enhancing target detection accuracy. Moreover, we refine the Feature Pyramid Transformer (FPT) attention mechanism model to ensure the output feature map aligns effectively with the requirements of object detection. Our empirical findings demonstrate that our refined approach outperforms the original SSD algorithm across all four evaluation metrics, exhibiting improvements of 1.52%, 1.89%, 3.09%, and 2.57%, respectively. Qualitative tests further illustrate the accuracy, robustness, and universality of our proposed method, particularly in scenarios characterized by dense artistic elements and challenging-to-distinguish categories within art compositions.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The growing literature on Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) and dementia identifies specific problems related to the influence that involvement has on research outcomes, over-reliance on family members as proxies and lack of representation of seldom-heard groups. Adaptations to the PPIE process are therefore needed to make possible the involvement of a broader spectrum of people living with dementia. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to adapt the PPIE process to make participation in cocreation by people living with dementia accessible and meaningful across a spectrum of cognitive abilities. DESIGN: Narrative elicitation, informal conversation and observation were used to cocreate three vignettes based on PPIE group members' personal experiences of dementia services. Each vignette was produced in both narrative and graphic formats. PARTICIPANTS: Nine people living with dementia and five family members participated in this study. RESULTS: Using enhanced methods and outreach, it was possible to adapt the PPIE process so that not only family members and people with milder cognitive difficulties could participate, but also those with more pronounced cognitive problems whose voices are less often heard. CONCLUSIONS: Making creative adaptations is vital in PPIE involving people living with dementia if we wish to develop inclusive forms of PPIE practice. This may, however, raise new ethical issues, which are briefly discussed. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: People with dementia and their families were involved in the design and conduct of the study, in the interpretation of data and in the preparation of the manuscript.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Prospero Calderón (1862-1934) will be the first Costa Rican to devote himself to the profession of editor; Likewise he will be photographer, teacher, designer and precursor of the graphic arts in the country. Under its ideals for the promotion of culture, the first Costa Rican publications are published in a magazine format: Costa Rica Ilustrada and Páginas Ilustradas, featuring on its pages photographs of H.N. Rudd, Manuel Gómez Miralles and Amando Céspedes, among others, as well as texts by Joaquín García Monje, Justo A. Facio, Carmen Lyra and Lisímaco Chavarría. His contribution is essential in the study of Costa Rican society and art in the transition of the s. XIX to s. XX. In order to carry out this research, was used the Historical Methodology, developed from the heuristic and hermeneutic stages, to conclude with a theoretical proposal under the figure of Historical Biography.
