ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To compare focus score (FS) and other histopathological features between paired labial and parotid salivary gland biopsies in a diagnostic cohort of suspected Sjögren's disease (SjD) patients. METHODS: Labial and parotid salivary gland biopsies were simultaneously obtained from patients with sicca complaints, suspected of having SjD. Biopsies were formalin fixed and paraffin embedded. Sections were stained with haematoxylin & eosin (H&E) and for CD3, CD20, CD45, cytokeratin, CD21, Bcl6, activation induced deaminase (AID), and IgA/IgG. FS and other histopathological features characteristic for SjD were analysed. RESULTS: Based on the expert opinion of three experienced rheumatologists, 36 patients were diagnosed as SjD and 63 as non-SjD sicca patients. When taking all patients together, absolute agreement of various histopathological features between labial and parotid biopsies was high and varied between 80% (FS) and 93% ((pre-)lymphoepithelial lesions (LELs)). More labial gland biopsies had a FS ≥ 1 compared with their parotid counterpart. Accordingly, the area of infiltrate was larger in labial gland biopsies. When considering only SjD patients, labial glands contained significantly less B-lymphocytes, GCs/mm2 and less severe LELs compared with parotid glands. CONCLUSION: Labial and parotid glands from SjD patients contain similar histopathological key features, and thus both glands can be used for diagnosis and classification of SjD. However, parotid salivary glands reveal more evident B-lymphocyte related features, while labial glands exhibit more inflammation, which may be partially unrelated to SjD.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) of the lip is not a common phenomenon, and existing literature provides limited information on the clinicopathological features of labial PA. STUDY DESIGN: Patients diagnosed with labial PA at our single institution over the past 20 years (2001-2020) was retrospectively screened and analyzed to investigate the epidemiologic and clinicopathological features of these tumors. RESULTS: A total of 173 cases were screened out, and the average age was 44.3 (range 7-82) years, with a peak incidence rate during the third decade. A slight predilection for men (52%) was observed, and PA occurs more frequently in the upper lip than in the lower lip, with a ratio of 14.7:1. On clinical examination, labial PAs usually present as painless masses that develop slowly with no systemic symptoms. Histologically, labial PAs contain myoepithelial and polygonal epithelial cells in myxoid, hyaline, fibrous, chondroid, and even osseous tissues, similar to those in other sites. Specifically, 15 of 173 patients with labial PA presented with cutaneous PA. CONCLUSION: Labial PA presents over a wide age range and dominantly occurs at the upper lip. Surgical resection is the major treatment strategy, and postoperative recurrence or malignant transformation of labial PA was extremely rare.

ABSTRACT

In sicca syndrome patients the xerostomia, xerophthalmia and the serological findings may strongly suggest the autoimmune Sjögren's syndrome, but the histological findings in the labial salivary gland biopsies do not always justify the suspected diagnosis. The aim of this study was to compare the histomorphological changes and the clinical findings in patients with pathologically established Sjögren's syndrome and in cases with negative histology. A total of 133 labial biopsies have been retrospectively evaluated from 2015 to May 2022, and the characteristic Sjögren's lesions were found in 67 cases. According to the clinical data, 34 cases proved to be primary, and 33 were associated ("secondary") forms. In 66 cases, the histology did not justify Sjögren's syndrome; a significant acinar loss, fibrolipomatous infiltration, and mild sialadenitis had led to the clinical symptoms. In Sjögren's histologies, the acinar loss was detected in just 31.8% of cases, which might indicate that the diminished saliva production represents immune-mediated hypofunction rather than direct damage of the acini. This is the first systemic study in Hungary investigating the correlation between pathological alterations and clinical findings.

ABSTRACT

The labial gland is a major exocrine gland in the thoracic cavity of ants, which is connected to the mouth area and opens at the base of the labium. The labial gland in the various castes and males of Camponotus japonicus were examined using dissection, light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Our findings reveal clear caste differences in the appearance of the labial gland, and suggest a relationship between gland structure and its behavioral role in queens, males and workers: queens possess the largest reservoir sac; males have the smallest; workers have abundant secretion droplets in the gland cells of the tubules; epithelial thickness of gland cells varies considerably between workers and reproductive ants. The apical cell region has a high density of microvilli and polymorphic mitochondria, whereas the central cell region is rich in rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) which means its main secretions are proteinaceous compounds. We believe that the labial gland has a different function in the castes of C. japonicus: the gland of workers and queens may be used to feed the larvae; workers participate in trophallaxis in the nest, while the males are not involved in these activities. Calculations of the relative size of the labial gland for each caste and males indicated that minor workers have the relative highest developed labial gland, supporting a role in trophallaxis. In addition, we found a phenomenon of enlarged labial gland in minor workers, which accounted for almost 22%, but the reason for this is unknown.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: The study assessed the validity of impression cytology (IC) and in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) of lip mucosa compared with labial gland biopsy, anti-Sjögren's syndrome A (SSA)/Ro antibody status, and classification criteria in suspected primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) patients. Methods: Clinically suspected pSS patients (n = 201) were enrolled consecutively and were divided into pSS (n = 56) and control (n = 145, only with dryness) groups according to the American College of Rheumatology-European League Against Rheumatism (ACR-EULAR) criteria. All patients underwent lip mucosa IC (inflammatory cell density) and IVCM (epithelium/intrinsic layer thickness and labial gland density/diameter) analyses. The associations between IC/IVCM parameters and clinical/laboratory results were analyzed. Results: The absolute agreement between positive lip mucosal IC (≥50 cells/4 mm2) and the ACR-EULAR criteria (94.5%)/labial gland biopsy (95.5%) was good, with sensitivities of 82.1 and 85.2%, respectively, and a specificity of 99.3%. Compared with controls, IVCM revealed significant lip mucosal atrophy and glandular decreases in the pSS group (all P = 0.000). The sensitivities for diagnosing pSS corresponding to a lamina propria thickness ≤128 µm and a gland diameter ≤114 µm were 85.7 and 89.3%; the specificities were 90.3 and 95.9%, respectively. A combination of positive IC/IVCM and anti-SSA/Ro antibody results showed a high predictive value for diagnosing pSS. Conclusions: IC and IVCM could detect distinctive cellular and morphological changes in the lip mucosa of patients with pSS. These noninvasive and easy-to-perform examinations may be an alternative to labial gland biopsy for diagnosing pSS.

ABSTRACT

The pathogenesis of the prototypical chronic autoimmune disorder primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) has been thought to be B-cell-centric, based on serum autoantibodies, the increased risk of B cell lymphoma, and altered B cell subsets in patients with pSS. Over the last 10 years, therapies targeting B cells have been investigated for pSS; however, current evidence for the efficacy of B cell targeted therapies in pSS is still sparse. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) might represent a promising strategy for cell therapy of autoimmune diseases via regulation of immune cells. MSC-released exosomes carry various bioactive molecules and thus have been studied in MSC-based therapy. The newly discovered labial gland MSCs (LGMSCs) have exhibited enhanced performance. Herein, we aimed to determine the effects of LGMSC-derived exosomes (LGMSC-Exos) on the symptoms of a mouse model of pSS and their regulatory effect and mechanism on B cell subsets. In vivo, treatment of the spontaneous mouse model of pSS with LGMSC-Exos resulted in reduced inflammatory infiltration and restored saliva secretion in salivary glands. In vitro, coculture of LGMSC-Exos with peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with pSS markedly reduced the proportions of CD19+CD20-CD27+CD38+ plasma cells among peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Further investigations provided evidence that LGMSC-Exo-derived microRNA-125b affected plasma cells of pSS by directly binding to its target gene, PRDM1 (PR domain zinc finger protein 1, also known as BLIMP1), which might be developed as a target to treat pSS. Overall, these findings provided a possible exploitable therapeutic target in pSS and provide new insights into the potential therapeutic application of exosomes in pSS and other disease mediated by B-cells.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Salivary glands of primary SS (pSS) patients characteristically harbour periductal infiltrates, in which lymphoepithelial lesions (LELs) can develop. LELs are composed of hyperplastic ductal epithelium with infiltrating lymphocytes and may assist in the challenging diagnostic process of pSS. As manual identification of LELs remains difficult, we aimed to identify LELs by using an objective digital image analysis (DIA) algorithm that detects intraepithelial lymphocytes. METHODS: A virtual triple-staining technique developed for this study was used to count intraepithelial lymphocytes in consecutive slides stained for CD3 (T-lymphocytes), high-molecular-weight cytokeratin (hmwCK) (striated ducts) and CD20 (B-lymphocytes) in labial and parotid gland biopsies in a diagnostic cohort of 109 sicca patients. Patients were classified as having pSS or non-SS according to the ACR-EULAR classification criteria. RESULTS: T-lymphocytes were detected in almost all analysed ducts of pSS and non-SS sicca patients, whereas intraepithelial B-lymphocytes were present in 59-68% of labial and parotid gland biopsies of pSS patients, against only 2-3% of patients classified as non-SS. Intraepithelial B-lymphocytes were found in almost all striated ducts with hyperplasia (LELs). Remarkably, ∼25% of analysed striated ducts without hyperplasia of pSS patients also contained B-lymphocytes (precursor-LELs). Furthermore, presence of intraepithelial B-lymphocytes was associated with clinical parameters of pSS (i.e. serology). CONCLUSION: The presence of intraepithelial B-lymphocytes in salivary gland biopsies of sicca patients is a clear indicator of pSS and can be used as an objective alternative to LEL scoring. Therefore, identification of B-lymphocyte-containing ducts should be added to the diagnostic histopathological work-up of patients suspected of pSS.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: In this article we review the literature on the inferior labial gland from a clinical and anatomical perspective. BACKGROUND: Regardless of its importance in clinical practice, there are no medical literature that comprehensively reviewed the inferior labial gland. METHODS: A database search using PubMed and Google Scholar was conducted. The following keywords were used in the search: "lower labial salivary gland", "lower labial gland", "inferior labial salivary gland", AND "inferior labial gland". CONCLUSIONS: The human labial glands are types of minor salivary gland that continuously secrete small amounts of mucous and serous substances to maintain oral health. The inferior labial glands are innervated by the inferior labial branch of the mental nerve, and the inferior labial branch of the facial artery is the main arterial supply to the lower lip. Although they only have an auxiliary role in saliva production compared to the major salivary glands, minor salivary glands provide a certain amount of lubrication in the oral cavity by the continuous outflow of saliva. The inferior labial gland not only promotes moisturization in the oral cavity but also secretes substances with antibacterial effects, which is important for the function of the oral cavity. A recent study showed that the rate of salivary secretion from the inferior labial glands does not change with age, and in some cases the inferior labial glands are used for diagnosing intractable diseases such as Sjogren's syndrome and cystic fibrosis. In addition, since the inferior labial glands themselves can be the site of cyst and/or neoplasia development, we should be careful to distinguish them from other diseases. Elucidation of the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the inferior labial glands, is important for understanding human health and diseases.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aims to delve deeper into the hypothesis that normal salivary gland tissue expresses both protein and mRNA of mammaglobin (MGB). METHODS: Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples of submandibular (10), parotid (5), palatal (5) and labial glands (30) salivary glands were immunohistochemically investigated. The labial samples were used to examine the MGB positive ratio (MGB-PR), and localize MGB by double immunofluorescence staining and quantitative mRNA gene expression. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis rank-sum test for group comparison, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient for correlation analysis were used. RESULTS: The distribution of MGB-positive cells was variable throughout samples with significantly higher MGB-PR of acini than ducts (P = 0.00376), and there was no difference when compared based on age (P = 0.0646) and gender (P = 0.245). Besides acinar cells, a number of myoepithelial cells and ductal cells also demonstrated strong MGB reactivity with varying MGB mRNA expression levels in 6 of the 7 samples (with MGB-PR > 20%) tested. CONCLUSION: This novel study shows that unlike aberrant protein expression in some carcinomas, MGB expression in salivary gland neoplasms represents the nature of original cells, giving a better insight into the neoplasms expressing MGB.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: In this study, we aimed to reveal the detailed anatomy of mental nerve branches to the inferior labial glands. METHODS: Embalmed cadaveric heads were used in this study and the mental nerve branches to the inferior labial glands were dissected. Branches to the glands were then excised for histological observation. RESULTS: On all sides, the inferior labial glands were innervated by small branches arising from mental nerve branches that innervated the lower lip. No nerve branches to the inferior labial gland crossed the midline. Histological observation found that the tissue to the inferior labial gland were composed primarily of nerve fibers with a small number of surrounding vessels. Histological findings in examined specimens were consistent. CONCLUSION: The inferior labial glands were innervated by small branches of the mental nerve to the lower lip.

ABSTRACT

We herein report an unusual case of primary Sjögren's syndrome in a 38-year-old woman with typical clinical symptoms (joint pain, dry mouth, and positive Schirmer test) and immunoglobulin G positivity but negativity for antinuclear antibody and all antinuclear antibody spectrum antibodies. Emission computed tomography demonstrated normal ingestion but impaired secretion by the submandibular and bilateral parotid glands. Labial gland biopsy revealed chronic tissue inflammatory changes and Chisholm grade 4 lymphocyte infiltration, confirming primary Sjögren's syndrome. The patient's condition was successfully controlled by nonsteroidal treatment with tacrolimus. Patients presenting with chronic dry mouth should be examined by a Schirmer test, lip gland biopsy, and salivary gland emission computed tomography for possible Sjögren's syndrome, even if serological autoantibodies are negative, to facilitate early intervention. Tacrolimus is a potential treatment option in patients intolerant of steroidal drugs.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate consistency of lymphocyte immunophenotype between labial gland and peripheral blood in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS). METHODS: Seventy-one pSS patients and 35 patients with maxillofacial trauma were included in the study. Based on the ratio of CD20 to CD3 in labial gland from 71 pSS patients, they were divided into the high and (n = 48) and low CD20 expression group (n = 23). Lymphocyte immunophenotypes in labial glands, course of disease, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein, immunoglobulin, and complement levels were analyzed. RESULTS: In the labial gland, the levels of IgG, IgA, IgM, and C3c were higher, but C1q was lower in the pSS group than in the control group (all P < .05). CD20 was detected in labial gland samples of all pSS patients, in which CD3 was positive in 66 (93.0%) patients, and negative in 5 (7.0%). The plasma levels of IgG, IgA, IgM, and CRP, and ESR were higher, but serum C4 level was lower in pSS patients than in the control group (all P < .01). Serum IgG level, ESR, and labial gland CD20 were higher in the high CD20 expression group than the low expression group (all P < .05). CONCLUSION: Primary Sjogren's syndrome patients had a higher expression of CD20 positive infiltrating lymphocytes of the labial gland, accompanied with the changes of immunoglobulins, and complements in both the labial gland and peripheral blood.

ABSTRACT

Besides the common labial and metapleural glands, four novel exocrine glands are described in the thorax of both workers and queens of the ponerine ant Myopias hollandi. From anterior to posterior, these glands were designated as the propleural pit gland, the posterolateral pronotal gland, the anterolateral propodeal gland and the metasternal process gland. They all correspond with class-3 glands, that are made up of bicellular units that each comprise a secretory cell and a duct cell. In the propleural pit gland, the ducts are characterized by a gradually widening diameter, while in the three other glands the ducts show a portion which displays a balloon-like expansion, that on semithin sections stains very dark. For none of these novel glands the function is known as yet, although ultrastructural examination indicates that they produce a non-proteinaceous and therefore possibly pheromonal secretion.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Although high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) is useful for the characterization of minute morphological changes in the lungs, no study has investigated risk factors for lung involvement detected by HRCT in patients with Sjögren's syndrome with or without respiratory symptoms. The aim of the current study was to investigate risk factors for lung involvement in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome detected by HRCT, with a particular focus on airway and interstitial lung diseases. METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study of patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome and investigated risk factors for lung involvement detected by HRCT. A total of 101 patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome with initial HRCT examinations were enrolled. RESULTS: Higher age, dry mouth, and higher labial gland biopsy focus scores (≥4) were risk factors for airway diseases (odds ratio [OR] 1.064 confidence interval [CI] 1.026-1.102, OR 8.795 CI 2.317-33.378 and OR 3.261 CI 1.100-9.675, respectively) in the multivariable analysis. Higher age, male sex, and higher labial gland biopsy focus scores (≥4) were risk factors for interstitial lung diseases (OR 1.078 CI 1.032-1.127, OR 12.178 CI 1.121-132.307 and OR 3.954 CI 1.423-10.987, respectively) in the multivariable analysis. The presence of anti-T-lymphotropic virus type 1 antibodies was significantly more common in patients with airway diseases. CONCLUSIONS: This study showed significant associations of labial gland biopsy focus scores and dry mouth with pulmonary manifestations in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome. Focus scores as well as dry mouth may reflect lymphoproliferative activity in the lungs in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Surfactant proteins in different glandular structures of the oral cavity display antimicrobial activity for protection of invading microorganisms. Moreover, they are involved in lowering liquid tension in fluids and facilitate secretion flows. Numerous investigations for studying the occurrence of surfactant proteins in glandular tissues were performed using different methods. In the oral cavity, minor salivary glands secrete saliva continuously for the maintenance of a healthy oral environment. For the first time, we could show that infantile labial glands show expression of the surfactant proteins (SP) SP-A, SP-B, SP-C, and SP-D in acinar cells and the duct system in different intensities. The stratified squamous epithelium of the oral mucosa revealed positive staining for SPs in various cell layers.

ABSTRACT

Social parasitic Hymenopterans have evolved morphological, chemical, and behavioral adaptations to overcome the sophisticated recognition and defense systems of their social host to invade host nests and exploit their worker force. In bumblebees, social parasitism appeared in at least 3 subgenera independently: in the subgenus Psithyrus consisting entirely of parasitic species, in the subgenus Alpinobombus with Bombus hyperboreus, and in the subgenus Thoracobombus with B. inexspectatus. Cuckoo bumblebee males utilize species-specific cephalic labial gland secretions for mating purposes that can impact their inquiline strategy. We performed cephalic labial gland secretions in B. hyperboreus, B. inexspectatus and their hosts. Males of both parasitic species exhibited high species specific levels of cephalic gland secretions, including different main compounds. Our results showed no chemical mimicry in the cephalic gland secretions between inquilines and their host and we did not identify the repellent compounds already known in other cuckoo bumblebees.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Due to the deterioration of environmental conditions that promotes the onset of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, and the progress in the diagnosis, the frequency of registration of intercurrent pathology of salivary glands has markedly risen in recent years, demonstrating the increased scientific interest in the research of the common and distinctive features of their structure. THE AIM: The paper was aimed at the development of the method of morphological study of human minor salivary (labial and palatine) glands by the use of plastic wax reconstruction to obtain the plastic model of the acini and ducts of human minor salivary glands. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Specimens of the glandular area of the hard palate mucosa and labial mucosa in its middle third have been studied. To gain the objective of the investigation the technique for morphological study of the human minor salivary (labial and palatine) glands is to be developed, encompassing the analysis of the spatial organization of the glandular epithelium of the labial and palatine glands together with blood microcirculatory flow by fixing the obtained specimens of the minor salivary glands in 4% glutaraldehyde solution and osmium tetroxide with subsequent embedding into the Epon-812, staining the serial semi-thin sections with phosphate buffered 0,1% toluidine blue solution, photomacrography of the distinguished boundaries of the investigated structures and obtaining of photoreconstructions. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Thus, the use of suggested technique enables to obtain the megascopic reconstruction of the acini and ducts of the labial and palatine glands, which can be studied from different sides, getting the full visualization of the shape and size, as well as to explore the glands' inner configuration, the geometry of the lumen of the epithelial excretory ducts, to determine changes in the thickness of the wall, to get a visual representation of the microtopographic interactions between the different parts of blood microcirculatory flow and excretory ducts of the minor salivary glands.

ABSTRACT

Stingless bees foraging for food improve recruitment by depositing chemical cues on valuable food sites or pheromone marks on vegetation. Using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and bioassays, we showed that Melipona solani foragers leave a mixture composed mostly of long chain hydrocarbons from their abdominal cuticle plus methyl oleate from the labial gland as a scent mark on rich food sites. The composition of hydrocarbons was highly variable among individuals and varied in proportions, depending on the body part. A wide ratio of compounds present in different body parts of the bees elicited electroantennogram responses from foragers and these responses were dose dependent. Generally, in bioassays, these bees prefer to visit previously visited feeders and feeders marked with extracts from any body part of conspecifics. The mean number of visits to a feeder was enhanced when synthetic methyl oleate was added. We propose that this could be a case of multi-source odor marking, in which hydrocarbons, found in large abundance, act as a signature mixture with attraction enhanced through deposition of methyl oleate, which may indicate a rich food source.

ABSTRACT

An 11-year-old female golden retriever dog had a mass at the right corner of the upper lip, which gradually increased in size and protruded into the oral cavity. The mass was removed surgically. The cut surface of the mass was smooth, whitish and solid, and covered by the oral mucosal membrane. Histopathologically, the mass consisted mainly of reticular pattern of short spindle cells that stained positively for cytokeratin AE1/AE3, α-smooth muscle actin and p63, suggestive of a myoepithelial cell phenotype. Between the neoplastic cords, there was myxoid or edematous connective tissue. Additionally, neoplastic cells with luminal epithelial and basal cell phenotypes were arranged in ducts and small islands, respectively. Based on the diverse histological and immunohistochemical features, the tumor was diagnosed as pleomorphic adenoma of the labial gland. To our knowledge, the reticular proliferation pattern of myoepithelial cells has not been described in salivary gland tumors of domestic animals.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the consistency of the lymphocyte immunophenotype between labial gland and peripheral blood of patients with primary Sj(o)gren's syndrome (pSS).Methods Seveny-one pSS patients (referred as pSS group) from rheumatology department and 35 subjects patients with maxillofacial trauma (referred as control group) from department of head and neck surgery of general hospital at tianjin medical university (Tianjin,China) during August 2013 to April 2016 were included into this study.Based on the ratio of CD20 to CD3 in labial gland from pSS patients, they were divided into CD20 high proportion group and CD20 low proportion group.Lymphocyte immunophenotypes in labial glands, course of disease, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR),C-reactive protein (CRP) level,immuno-globulin (Ig) and complement levels were compared among groups. Results ① The levels of serum IgG,IgA,IgM and CRP,and ESR were higher, but C4 level was lower in pSS patients than in the control group [IgG:(22 990±8 060) mg/L vs (1 1560±1 290)mg/L,t=l 1.645,P<0.01;IgA:(3 710±1 400) mg/L vs (2 390±800) mg/L,t=6.138,P<0.01;IgM:(1 580±1 300)mg/L vs (920±390) mg/L,t=3.893,P<0.01;ESR:(37±14) mm/1 h vs (14±4) mm/1 h,t=12.723,P<0.01;CRP:(5.9±8.7) mg/L vs (2.5±1.2) mg/L,t=3.199,P<0.01;C4:(180±60) mg/L vs (250±40) mg/L,t=-6.850,P<0.01].② The levels of IgG,IgA,IgM and C3c in labial gland were higher (IgG:Z=-6.264,P<0.01;IgA:Z=-1.997,P<0.05;IgM:Z=-5.459,P<0.01;C3c:Z=-8.533,P<0.01),but Clq was lower in pSS group than in control group (Z=-4.363,P<0.01).③ CD20 was detected in labial gland samples of all pSS patients,in which CD3 was positive in 66 patients, and negative in 5.④ Serum IgG level,ESR were higher in CD20 high proportion group than in low proportion group [IgG:(24 970±7 510) mg/L vs (18 860±7 740) mg/L,t=3.176,P<0.01;ESR:(40±13) mn/1 h vs (32±15) mm/1 h,t=2.148,P<0.05].⑤ The levels of IgG and Clq in labial gland were higher in CD20 high proportion group than in low proportion group [IgG:Z=-5.387,P<0.01;C1q:Z=-4.724,P<0.01].Conclusion pSS patients have a higher proportion of CD20 in infiltrating lymphocytes of the labial gland, accompanied with the changes of immunoglobulins and complements in both labia gland and peripheral blood.
