ABSTRACT

This study explored how an experiential learning approach can be applied in education for sustainable development (ESD) for 2030 within the service industry. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted lives, health, the economy, and service industries, such as tourism and hospitality. ESD for 2030 proposed a framework of 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) on how to learn from societal transformation. A case study from the Meiho University examined key influencing factors via students' practices. Photographic evidence showed how internal psychology affects external behavior. Student groups participated in the proposed learning activities. Students from the tourism department imitated tourists to identify aspects pertaining to independent travel. This entailed broadly experienced activities in rural communities to modern cities. Responsible behavior was identified within self-learning topics, such as water problems, activation, low-carbon transportation, and ecological difficulties experienced on a small island. The results indicate that societal transformation involves an intrinsic mechanism from psychology inside to behavior outside. The planning required for independent travel tested students' management competence of how a practical project can be controlled under limited budgets and COVID-19 risks. The social and cultural contexts become an interaction and exchange platform for authentic experiences, which resulted in personal learning outcomes. This newly developed mode explains why transforming society is necessary for ESD for 2030 to be implemented in higher education. SDGs are achievable in current circumstances, although learning contexts may differ.

ABSTRACT

Language learning is a dynamic and complex process in which different factors and variables are constantly interacting. However, many studies done on constructs related to teacher-learner psychology have used one-shot quantitative research designs, while it is impossible to capture the complexity and dynamism of such variables via one-time measurements. Against this gap, complexity dynamic system theory (CDST) has recently been applied to explore processes and changes that a construct may undergo. To shed more light, the present study examined the current research methods used in this research domain and presented the contributions and different conceptualizations that can be made through CDST. In the end, some implications and future directions are suggested for passionate scholars.

ABSTRACT

The paper deals with implementation of a smart learning environment, namely Blackboard, into the course of business communication. The new approach was implemented into the course and the research was conducted into the subjective satisfaction of the users of the environment. The first research was conducted in 2018 into the users´ satisfaction with the course which was taught using traditional methods, and the second research was conducted in 2019 into the users´ satisfaction with the new online course. The idea of the creator of the online course was to keep the contents and the scope of the subject as much similar as possible to create two groups of users, i.e. the first, using the traditional approaches, and the second with the modern technology-enabled class. With this intention, the Blackboard class was created, and the users were taught by using blended learning methodology. The research focused merely on personal satisfaction with the course within the intention of positive psychology, i.e. focusing on potential issues regarding personal satisfaction. It did not focus on the differences in the performance of the students as there is a lot of research into this aspect. However, it focused on the individual satisfaction and personal feelings of the users while using blended learning platforms in the context of ubiquitous computing. The findings are that the users expressed their satisfaction regarding easily accessible materials and varied learning environment; however, the dissatisfaction was created by increased screen time and reduces social contacts. The findings are very important for educators who use various mobile platforms and eLearning environments as they should be aware of the reservations of the users of these tools.

ABSTRACT

Facebook is undoubtedly the most popular social network site nowadays with over two billion users. Therefore, there has been research exploring its potential as a learning environment for various fields of education, including learning English as a foreign language (EFL). As the findings of research studies indicate, Facebook is especially used in developing productive language skills, such as writing, which is considered to be the least popular and the most difficult skill to master. Thus, the purpose of this article is to explore the impact of Facebook on developing writing skills in learning English as a foreign language. The methodology is based on the search for available studies on the research topic, i.e., the impact of Facebook on developing writing skills in EFL, in the world's databases: Web of Science and Scopus. The search was not limited by any time period. The results of this review article reveal that using Facebook has a positive effect on developing writing skills in EFL classes, especially in shaping and organizing ideas, enhancing motivation, developing and supporting collaboration among peers, improving vocabulary, and reducing students' shyness. However, more experimental research should be done in this area to reveal other aspects of the writing process, such as communicative language competence, which can be improved by using Facebook, as well as address researchers from continents other than Asia.

ABSTRACT

The article describes the use of a simulation game in HIV/AIDS education with pre-service teachers in Johannesburg, South Africa. The use of a simulation game, as novel experiential pedagogy, was an attempt to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and to demonstrate that anyone can be at risk of HIV infection. Using a generic qualitative research design, the data were collected over a three-year period by way of video recordings of the simulation game, recordings of large and small group discussions afterwards, and via questionnaires and written reflections by the education students four weeks afterwards. Content analysis and discourse analysis led to the construction of three main themes. First, we found that the novelty factor of the simulation game for raising HIV/AIDS awareness was confirmed both during the game itself and after a period of time had elapsed. Second, in light of many education students' naivety about the intersection of biological, socio-cultural and economic issues at play in the spread of HIV, the game prompted more reflexivity about the disease and helped to broaden the participants' discussions. Lastly, the data revealed the disjuncture between theory and practice in HIV/AIDS education. We propose that in raising awareness of HIV and AIDS, educators should move towards more engaging and challenging pedagogies that address the learning needs of the 'new' generation of university students.

ABSTRACT

The first graduates of the Psychology career have narrated, as respondents, how they remember having been formed in the beginning, by the professors of the moment. In these stories, signs of a particular approach to teaching psychology for the training of professionals in that discipline. This work aims to rescue from the interviews, some stories of teaching and learning in relation to socio-institutional context in which they were recreating the scene of the time, to retrieve representations, beliefs, thoughts and values that might have students and teachers in the early stages of the career in relation to the place of transmitters whose skills were valued. It is also to identify some significant elements of the narrative nature of pedagogical knowledge regarding the transmission of psychological content and impact of teaching discourse referring to the disciplinary knowledge that "drew brands".

ABSTRACT

I intent to, with this article, ferment the discussion about conditions to learn in Contemporaneity. Children and teenagers face up problems to learn how to read, write and concentrate in the school, but, before this, we should ask if they found the condition of being? Parents and teachers search for psychopedagogue help and his position about being? Many times their ideas are in gestation process, but nowadays we are living the fast way of living. Questions are launched, the room for reflection is opened, the theme is in transit and the different solutions can already start to enunciate themselves. Children and teenagers learn the same way, nowadays?(AU)
