ABSTRACT

This study aims to identify the proxy determinants of the Occupational Health and Safety Program (OHS) implementation among nurses in a hospital in Indonesia. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study conducted on a sample of 100 nurses from 4 services: perinatology, medicine, surgery and pediatrics, with criteria such as having a minimum education level equivalent to a diploma in nursing and still be actively working. Information on the variables length of work, level of education, training and supervision profiles, occupational health and safety of nurses was collected using an independently developed questionnaire. Results: Education level related to OHS implementation among nurses (p value 0.004

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To investigate the pathological changes in intra- and extra cranial blood vessels in workers of locomotive crews depending on their length of service. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The study involved 249 male patients, aged from 21 to 60 years who worked as locomotive drivers. We used Doppler examination and studied Doppler Indexes of cerebral vessels. RESULTS: Results: Results of examination showed that with increasing length of work of workers of locomotive crews (together with increasing of their age) we have established: 1) Reduction the elasticity of blood vessels (77.6% of the patients); 2) Increased violation of venous circulation (86.4%); 3) Reduced blood flow in the basilar artery (64%); 4) Reduced blood flow in the right and left vertebral arteries (65.6% and 65.5% respectively); 5) Increase in the thickness of intimate / media complex more than 1.1 in 62 % of drivers. All of that also connected with length of their work. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: we founded that speed of blood flow and elasticity in intra- and extra cranial vessels reduced with increase the length of service of workers of locomotive crews. Also we received such results: increasing violation of venous circulation, reducing blood flow in the basilar artery and reducing of blood flow in right and left vertebral arteries, increase intima / media thicknesses greater than 1,1 in locomotive drivers.

ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: Low Back Pain (LBP) is an occupational disease that is often the main cause of disability, thus affecting the work and general welfare of LBP sufferers. The objective of the present study is to determine the correlation between length of work and work posture with complaints of LBP among back-office employees at X Hospital. Method: The design of this study was a descriptive analysis, with cross-sectional study design, by total sampling technique for 44 back-office employees. Work posture risk assessment uses the Ovako Working posture Assessment System (OWAS) method and LBP complaints are measured using the Modified Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire. Results: Most respondents experienced LBP complaints in the moderate disability category, and 40 people (90,9%) needed to improve their work posture. Spearman correlation statistical test results showed there was a relationship between age (p-value =0,000), the length of work (p-value = 0,000), work posture (p-value = 0,009) with LBP complaints on back-office employees. Conclusion: Providing work facilities with ergonomic chairs and tables position and doing stretching in between work hours can reduce LBP complaints.

ABSTRACT

Gasoline contains toxic substances such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX) that negatively influence gas/fuel station workers' health via continuous inhalation, causing loss of cilia and epithelial cell necrosis of the nasal mucosa. The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between length of work with nasal mucociliary transport time (NMCTT) of the gas/fuel station workers This study used a cross sectional design. The data were obtained from anamnesis, physical and NMCTT examinations of gas station workers in Yogyakarta, during November 2013. Inclusion criteria were: 1) 18-55 years old, 2) free of nasal topical medication for 10 days. Exclusion criterion: 1) acute rhinitis, 2) chronic sinusitis, 3) ever had nasal trauma, 4) ever had nasal surgery, 5) allergic rhinitis, and/or 6) septal deviation. Correlation analyses between length of work and NMCTT of gas station workers used Spearman correlation test with α 5% level of significance (p < 0.05). From 38 subjects, 27 (71.1%) were men and 11 (28.9%) women. Median length of work was 7.37 years, and NMCTT: 10.84 ± 5.60 minutes. Spearman's correlation test results between length of work and NMCTT showed (R): 0.578 (p = 0.001). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that there is a positive correlation between length of work with NMCTT of gas station workers.
