ABSTRACT

AIMS: To understand factors influencing nurse manager retention or intention to leave, develop a preliminary theoretical model and identify strategies and interventions for workforce planning. DESIGN: Systematic review update of literature with integrated design of mixed research synthesis. METHODS: We included peer-reviewed articles examining factors influencing retention or intention to leave for front-line, middle or patient care nurse managers. Authors independently screened articles for inclusion and assessed included articles for quality. We adhered to a convergent synthesis approach. DATA SOURCES: Nine databases included MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsychINFO, CINAHL Plus with Full Text, ERIC, Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition, Scopus, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses and LILACS in January 2023. RESULTS: Thirty-five studies published between 1990 and 2022, 22 quantitative and 13 qualitative or mixed methods, were included. 155 factors influencing nurse manager retention, intention to stay, or turnover were reported. Job satisfaction was most frequently examined (n = 7), followed by factors such as empowerment (n = 3), decision-making (n = 3) and resilience (n = 2). We developed a preliminary theoretical model demonstrating staff relations and leadership, organizational and job characteristics, socio-demographics, personal characteristics, well-being and nurse manager relationship with work influence managers' intention to stay or to leave. CONCLUSIONS: Nurse managers who were empowered, satisfied with their work, received constructive feedback and found meaning in their roles showed greater intent to stay. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE: Nurse administrators can ensure managers are provided with authority to make decisions that promote autonomy. Work cultures that allow for regular meaningful constructive feedback from staff and leaders may contribute to nurse managers feeling valued. IMPACT: Understanding factors that influence job retention or intention to leave may help nurse managers and their supervisors identify areas for strategy and intervention design to ensure sustainability of this workforce. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition is a worldwide problem that impacts every country, affecting one in three individuals, including Ghana. According to estimates from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 690 million people were undernourished globally in 2019. Malnutrition is no exception in rural cocoa communities in Ghana. The expansion of cocoa is causing food insecurity and low dietary diversity in most cocoa-growing areas. There is little information on the food security status and dietary diversity among male-headed and female-headed cocoa households in the Juaboso-Bia cocoa landscape. Thus, this study sought to explore the dietary diversity distribution, food security status, sources of staple food, food unavailability periods, food production status, themes contributing to low dietary diversity and food insecurity, and perception of the impact of cocoa expansion on crop diversification among male-headed and female-headed cocoa households in the study area. METHODS: Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were employed to address the research questions. The study collected 200 semi-structured questionnaire data and 14 in-depth interview data from cocoa household heads in the Juaboso-Bia landscape. The survey data was cleaned and analysis, such as household dietary diversity status, food security status, and binary logistic regression were performed in the Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS). The in-depth interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. RESULTS: Through this study, it was revealed that 62.8% of the male-headed cocoa households had medium to high dietary diversity compared to their female counterparts 39.3%. About 47.9% of the male-headed households were food secure than the female-headed households (29.1%). Moreover, the months that both male and female-headed households recalled facing severe food unavailability were July and June. In addition, climate change/variability, unavailable lands, poverty, large household size, and gender stereotypes were themes promoting low dietary diversity and food insecurity among male and female-headed households. Furthermore, sex, total household income, and cropland conversion to cocoa were the variables influencing household heads' perception of the impact of cocoa expansion on crop diversification. CONCLUSIONS: The study showed that the male-headed cocoa households had high dietary diversity and were food secure than the female-headed cocoa households, lending credence to the conceptual framework applied in this study. There is a significant relationship between household head gender and food security status. Therefore, this study recommends the following interventions to improve dietary diversity and food security among male and female-headed cocoa households: raise awareness about the need for diverse diets and provide practical information on how to incorporate a greater variety of food groups into their daily meals; and promote gender equity and inclusivity in food security interventions. Future research could investigate how gender mainstreaming policies in agriculture have helped empower and improve the food security of female-headed households in Ghana.

ABSTRACT

This study explores the factors influencing athletes' compensation satisfaction and their configuration effects. A mixed research approach that combines regression analysis and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) was applied to process the survey data of 352 athletes from six provinces. The regression analysis results demonstrate that economic compensation, the compensation system, the external environment, and compensation fairness all have a significant positive effect on athletes' compensation satisfaction. Accordingly, the fsQCA approach was applied to explore the combined effects of the factors influencing athletes' compensation satisfaction, which verifies the conclusions drawn from regression analysis and provides improvement paths for increasing athletes' compensation satisfaction.

ABSTRACT

The study contributes to program design and evaluation practice in outdoor environmental education by identifying instructional strategies crucial for student satisfaction. Student satisfaction is a major factor in the overall success of outdoor environmental education programs. While the impact of these programs on student knowledge, attitudes, and behavior has been assessed often, student satisfaction has been subject of much less research. This study analyzes student satisfaction with four outdoor environmental education programs in the Czech Republic. The authors collected qualitative (N = 68) and quantitative (N = 323) data from the program participants after they had completed their respective programs. According to the results, the students appreciate a clearly defined program with meaningful activities. Also important is the role of the program leader and the students' having the opportunity to influence the activities during their free time in the program. Student satisfaction can in some cases be decreased by challenging weather and by demanding social interactions with their peers.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: To analyze the differences in system functions, interaction behaviors and user experience between iOS and Android smart phone operating system, and then study the differences in their brand images, so as to provide theory and research method for shaping corporate brand images from the perspective of product interaction design. Methods: This study was divided into three stages. In the first stage, the functional information architecture of iOS and Android smart phone operating system are studied comparatively by using information visualization methods. In the second stage, the brand image differences between the two systems at the explicit, behavioral and semantic levels are analyzed comparatively by building the "explicit - behavioral - semantic" product brand gene model. In the third stage, the functions of "setting alarm clock", "sharing pictures" and "modifying passwords" were selected for interactive behavior analysis. First, analyze the user experience of the three system functions from the perspective of interaction process and information architecture, and present the analysis results using the method of information visualization.; Secondly, the user experience and brand image differences between the two systems are analyzed by setting up manipulation task experiments. Results: The brand images of iOS and Android systems are similar in conciseness, clearness and efficiency; In terms of uniqueness, iOS system is more unique, while Android system has stronger applicability. Discussion: This study constructs an "explicit-behavior-semantic" brand gene model to create a unique product brand image for software products such as operating systems through interactive design, so as to solve the problem of product brand image homogeneity caused by the convergence of function and interaction design.

ABSTRACT

In Ethiopia, food security and vulnerability assessments have traditionally focused on rural areas. Recently, the issue of urban food security has been attracting attention in global policy debates. However, limited studies are found in the study areas that link food insecurity with major food market chains in the urban food system settings. This study is therefore, aimed at measuring the status of food insecurity in the urban food systems. A mixed study design has been used with randomly selected 506 resident households in Dessie and Combolcha cities, of north-central Ethiopia. We used a pre-tested, semi-structured survey questionnaire to collect quantitative data. The qualitative data has been collected with key informant interview, and focus group discussion among food system actors and facilitators in the selected commodities. We applied Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS) to measure the food security status and narration and summarization techniques to analyze the qualitative data. The study confirmed that 33.1% of the respondents were food insecure. Moreover, nine and six individuals per 100 people were forced to 'sleep hungry' and 'not eat in the whole day and night' respectively. Households' food insecurity was significantly associated with the gender of the household head, participation in casual labor, and living house ownership. The degree of food insecurity was deemed to be higher due to weak food system governance, an inconsistent food supply chain, and socio-economic and gender inequalities. However, both formal and informal food systems have their own unique qualities and maximum food security benefit can be achieved if they are well integrated. This implies food security intervention in urban areas needs to refocus their strategies towards systematic and integrated approaches that can promote social security programs like: urban housing, job security, urban agriculture and inclusive food safety net programs. Moreover, multidimensional studies are still important to obtain a wider picture of sustainable urban food security in urban areas and to better integrate the formal and informal food systems.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To build a standardized simulation teaching system for resident pharmacists and evaluate its effects, and to provide reference for improving the competency of resident pharmacists. METHODS The established simulation teaching system for pharmacy residents’ standardized training in the study included revising the simulation teaching syllabus, setting up simulation teaching courses, implementing the teaching method through “six types of simulations”, applying objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) for assessment, building a simulation teaching team and strengthening the simulation teaching management. The effect evaluation was perfermed with mixed research method, and qualitative and quantitative research methods were used to collect and analyze data and information. RESULTS &&CONCLUSIONS Compared with the traditional teaching system, the passing rate of graduation examination (71.4% vs. 100%) and the score of after-department examination ([ 76.2±7.8) vs. (90.4±4.9)] under the simulation teaching mode were higher; through questionnaire surveys and qualitative interviews, we found that resident pharmacists who went through simulation teaching gave positive feedback on the role and impact of this system. The simulation teaching system can be used with good generalizability for the standardized training of resident pharmacists, and can provide strong basis and support for the high-quality development of hospital pharmacy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the nurse-patient trust among in-patients in the context of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic; it further analyzed the related influencing factors, which will provide a theoretical basis for developing corresponding measures. METHODS: This study employed a mixed-method design and analyzed 149 patients at the Hongqi Hospital, affiliated with Mudanjiang Medical University, from December 2020 to February 2021. Quantitative analysis was carried out using the "Nurse Patient Trust Scale," and qualitative analysis was performed using a semi-structured interview with in-patients. RESULTS: The average score on the scale was 46.65 ± 2.83, and the scores of the 2 dimensions were: 23.24 ± 1.51 for ability and peace of mind, and 23.32 ± 1.53 for attitude and care. According to the interview data, the factors included 3 aspects: a comfortable hospital environment and humane management measures; the nurse's own competence; and effective communication with patients. CONCLUSION: During the COVID-19 epidemic, there are still many factors affecting patients' trust in nurses that can be addressed by taking different measures. All these factors must be considered by the relevant managers and clinical nursing staff to maintain a better nurse-patient trust relationship.

Contemporary social reform promotes rapid social transformation, and social practice has a special educational function in higher education. However, research shows weak willingness to participate in social practice among college students. Using the mixed research method, 438 completed questionnaire surveys on perceived environmental support were collected from college students. The influence of perceived environmental support on Chinese college students' willingness to participate in social practice was analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling, and an empirical test was conducted. The findings are as follows: (1) Perceived environmental support significantly impacts students' participation attitude and perceived behavioral control. (2) Participation attitude and perceived behavioral control significantly influence participation intention, but behavioral norms have no significant influence. (3) Participation intention and perceived behavioral control significantly influence actual behavior. This study provides the theoretical basis of perceived environmental support for future research on social practice participation intention and offers some theoretical guidance for the implementation of social practice in China.

BACKGROUND: Today, dual-career couples are becoming increasingly prevalent around the world. Due to the nature of the life of this group of people, their sexual and marital life can be damaged. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to develop a psycho-educational model based on the lived experiences of dual career couples who are dissatisfied with sexual relations and its effectiveness on sexual satisfaction. METHODS: This research was done based on a mixed (qualitative and quantitative) method. The qualitative part was performed using the phenomenological method and 13 couples were selected for semi-structured interviews using the purposive sampling method. In a small part of this study, a single case plan (AB plan) was used, and three couples were selected from those who referred to counseling centers in Ardabil and underwent counseling interventions. In a small part, the Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire was used to measure the changes of couples during the implementation of the intervention program. The information obtained in the qualitative part was analyzed through content analysis and the quantitative part was analyzed using visual analysis, clinical significance and recovery percentage. RESULTS: Based on the results obtained in the qualitative analysis section, the experiences of sexual dissatisfaction of dual-career couples can be classified into 10 main themes, 20 sub-themes and 30 categories that affect the sexual satisfaction of dual-career couples. The results of the quantitative section indicate that the designed psycho-educational model has led to an increase in sexual satisfaction of dual-career couples. CONCLUSION: Achieving sexual and marital satisfaction and finally mental health and reducing divorce is a process that begins with pathology in the cultural context and is achieved by emphasizing indigenous culture through developing a counseling package for appropriate intervention by therapists and counselors.

Resumen La Práctica Basada en Evidencia (PBE) es un proceso que inicia con el conocimiento de las evidencias disponibles y concluye con la selección de la mejor intervención para su implementación en escenarios clínicos lo cual impacta la efectividad de las intervenciones. Objetivo. Caracterizar el perfil de los terapeutas que laboran en 17 centros de tratamiento ambulatorio en adicciones del noroeste de México, además de sus conocimientos y habilidades en el uso de la PBE (fuentes de consulta, uso de manuales) y percepción de su autoeficacia. Método. Participaron 102 terapeutas, se contemplaron dos etapas: cuantitativa basada en la aplicación del CUTEA y cualitativa con aplicación de entrevista semi-estructurada, buscando contrastar las respuestas. Resultados. La mayoría de los participantes tuvo dificultad para describir el concepto de PBE, solo el 37.25% logró una adecuada definición sin embargo, reportaron altos niveles (95.91%) de autoeficacia para implementarla. En relación a las fuentes de consulta el 50% reportó utilizar cualquier buscador comercial en internet, mientras que el 46.08% referían usar los manuales de la institución. Al ingreso a su trabajo, no contaban con capacitación en adicciones ni en el área clínica. Discusión. Se aborda la necesidad del entrenamiento en la PBE y no solo en la implementación de tratamientos específicos.


Abstract Introduction. Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is a process which starts with the knowledge of available evidence and concludes with the evaluation and selection of the best intervention for the implementation in clinical settings, this process impact the efficacy of the interventions. The variables which can impact on the EBP could be: personal and institutional variables and therapist skills and variables of the interventions. However, to make decisions in the clinical context, it has prevailed a position based on the risks and needs of the clients, which would justify using any treatment, regardless of its effectiveness, which makes the professional psychologist a passive subject who is dedicated only to implementing interventions that institutions request. Therefore, EBP demands that the psychologist be critical of the research and this allows the identification of the best evidence available and also must have the skills to adapt that evidence to their particular context. The objective is to characterize the profile of therapists working in 17 outpatient treatment centers in Mexico, as well as the skills related to the use of EBP (sources of consultation and use of manuals, transfer of knowledge to the population and other therapists) and perception of their self-efficacy. Method. This is a cross-sectional research in which 102 therapists participated. Two stages were considered: quantitative, based on the application of a questionnaire, and the second was qualitative, seeking to contrast the responses. Results. Most of the participants had difficulties in explaining EBP, but reported high levels of self-efficacy to implement it. At the beginning of their work, they had no training in addictions or in the clinical area. Discussion. The need for training in EBP from undergraduate studies is addressed so that future therapists will find it more natural to implement it in clinical settings, through the analysis of scientific articles and, if possible, its application.

ABSTRACT

Entrepreneurial resilience refers to the capacity to face, overcome and project oneself after suffering life events with a negative impact. Emerging adulthood and the characteristics of university life facilitate the occurrence of stressful situations that can affect well-being. The aim of this phenomenological research is to explore the strategic components of entrepreneurial resilience and how young university students have shaped their entrepreneurial resilience after experiencing negative life events. The present research is a multiple case study that was developed through a mixed methodology. The methodological sequence was quantitative and qualitative, with priority given to the qualitative phase of the research. Ten university students with high levels of resilience were interviewed. The data were analysed using thematic analysis. The results indicate that resilience is built through intrapersonal and exopersonal processes. These processes make up a set of strategic dimensions related to entrepreneurial behaviour that are used for the construction of personal projects.

BACKGROUND: Dementia education is required to address gaps in dementia-specific knowledge among health and social care practitioners amidst increasing dementia prevalence. Harnessing technology for dementia education may remove obstacles to traditional education and empower large communities of learners. This systematic review aimed to establish the technological and pedagogical characteristics associated with effective technology-enabled dementia education for health and social care practitioners. METHODS: MEDLINE, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, ERIC and OVID Nursing Database were searched from January 2005 until February 2020. Quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods studies were eligible for inclusion. Study quality was assessed with the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. Quantitative evidence was categorised based on Kirkpatrick's Model. Qualitative data was synthesised thematically and integrated with quantitative findings before conclusions were drawn. RESULTS: Twenty-one published papers were identified. Participants were acute, primary and long-term care practitioners, or were students in higher education. Most training was internet-based; CD-ROMs, simulations and tele-mentoring were also described. Technology-enabled dementia education was predominantly associated with positive effects on learning outcomes. Case-based instruction was the most frequently described instructional strategy and videos were common modes of information delivery. Qualitative themes emerged as existing strengths and experience; knowledge gaps and uncertainty; developing core competence and expertise; involving relevant others; and optimising feasibility. DISCUSSION: Technology-enabled dementia education is likely to improve dementia knowledge, skills and attitudes among health and social care practitioners from multiple practice contexts. Confidence in the results from quantitative studies was undermined by multiple confounding factors that may be difficult to control in the educational research context. Convenience and flexibility are key benefits of technology-enabled instructive and simulated pedagogy that can support the application of theory into practice. More research is required to understand the role of online learning networks and provisions for equitable engagement. A future emphasis on organisational and environmental factors may elucidate the role of technology in ameliorating obstacles to traditional dementia education. As a result of the trend toward economic globalization, the vigorous development of cross-border e-commerce has attracted many scholars to study this field, involving many related fields, such as consumer behavior, advertising, information systems, and supply chain management. Throughout the existing literature, it can be found that most of the research focuses on certain influencing factors of the development of cross-border e-commerce, and there is no systematic and macro- overview of the development trend of research in this field in recent years, nor the integration and analysis of keywords. Given that the research in the field of cross-border e-commerce is fragmented to a large extent, to effectively explore the research trend in this field, we must understand the current situation of cross-border e-commerce. Systematic bibliometric analysis can solve this problem by providing publishing trends and information on various topics. Therefore, based on the scientific database web, this study collected 198 references related to cross-border e-commerce from 2016 to 2021, briefly introduced the current situation and development trend of cross-border e-commerce, visually analyzed and refined the journals, authors, research institutions, countries, publication years, keywords, citations of academic publications in this field, and other key information, and summarized the development trend and path of CEBC in the existing research. It is helpful for researchers to solve the current research gap, understand the future research direction in this field, and help academia establish a strict knowledge system.

ABSTRACT

This participatory action research study was conducted to confirm the implementation process and effect of developing and applying a preceptor education program based on the One-Minute Preceptor Model to foster the competence of preceptor clinical nurses. The study was conducted for eight weeks from March 2020 on 30 preceptor nurses in South Korea. Nursing standards were developed for two weeks and six cycles (comprising four stages) were performed. Data collection was integrated using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. For quantitative data, the Clinical Core Competency of Preceptor (CCCP) and General Communication Competence Scale (GICC-15) results were collected from preceptor nurses through questionnaires. Reflection journals of nurses' experiences were also analyzed through content analysis and frequency of keywords using WordClouds. There was no significant change in CCCP or GICC-15 results among preceptor nurses. However, nurses' experiences were associated with the growth and development of competencies such as evidence-based practice, quality feedback, and self-reflection. The program was effective in developing nurse competencies. Therefore, it is necessary to encourage One-Minute Preceptor Model activities among preceptors through an action research approach and to actively support research and practice in clinical settings, as well as to provide organizational and systematic support.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: Based on the theorized concept "Curriculum Safety Zone (CSZ)," this study was conducted to identify the factors for breaking CSZ by contrasting the experiential accounts of two pre-service teacher groups who taught within or outside of their CSZ. Method: Pre-service teachers (n = 14) from a sport-centered PETE program were trained to teach a Health-First curriculum module and their peers (n = 14) a traditional sport module. Each group taught their respective module to 14 intact 7th grade classes in 14 schools in China. A mixed-methods design was used. Quantitative data on learner knowledge gain were collected from the learners. Qualitative data included lesson observation fieldnotes, social-media posts, and interview responses and were gathered from the pre-service teachers. Results: Learners in the Health-First schools gained more knowledge than those in the Comparison schools (t26 = 2.92, p = .007, Cohen's d = 1.10). Qualitative evidence was triangulated using a Health-First vs. Comparison contrasting approach with open-, axial-, and selective-coding to generate themes. The themes were Confidence in Doubt, Lesson Plans to the Rescue, Professional Development is Necessary But…, and Student Learning Save the Day! A grounded theory was developed using the themes and interpreted using the Interconnection Model of Teacher Professional Growth. Conclusion: Breaking CSZ requires a synergistic effort with carefully designed professional development, detailed lesson plans, an effective support network, and, most important of all, a powerful curriculum that can elicit observable and measurable learner achievement.

BACKGROUND: Career education in nursing can affect career search efficacy, career preparation behavior, career maturity, perception of the nursing profession, and decision-making style. Reflection is essential for an in-depth approach to learning, and plays an important role in professional practice as well as in improving learning. PURPOSE: The aim is to investigate the effects of a self-reflection-focused career course, and what could improve a self-reflection-focused career course. METHODS: An explanatory sequential mixed methods design was used. The career search efficacy, career maturity, and career adaptability were measured three times in both the experimental and the control group. After the class ended, a focus group interview was conducted with the students in the experimental group. RESULTS: The quantitative results suggested that the self-reflection focused career course was more effective on career adaptability than the general career course (F = 4.60, p < .001). The qualitative findings supported the quantitative results and also provided new information, in which nursing students became acquainted with themselves through the self-reflection-focused career course, developed a positive mind about nursing, had realized that they were well-connected to nursing care, and that they would prepare the future nurse. CONCLUSION: The self-reflection-focused career course was effective tools in the career development of nursing students.

ABSTRACT

This article identifies and unpacks three key decision points in a systematic mixed research synthesis, a mixed methods approach to research synthesis. The research community has increasingly recognized the value of synthesis studies in expanding our understanding of phenomena. Mixed-methodology broadly has also gained ground as a pragmatic approach to research investigations. By leveraging mixed methods approaches in a synthesis review, systematic mixed studies review (SMSR) enables a broad and integrated summary of existing research on the topic. Yet SMSRs can be challenging to undertake given the complexity of working with research synthesis and mixed methods requirements. This methods guidance article presents information to assist novice researchers in navigating these critical decisions in SMSRs, and provides examples of how these were addressed by researchers in the two case studies provided. Implications of the SMSRs for the research community and future research directions are also discussed.

ABSTRACT

The analysis and utilization of clinical scientific research data is an effective means to promote the progress of diagnosis and treatment, and a key step in the development of medical sciences. During the epidemic of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19), how to transform the limited diagnostic data into clinical research resources has attracted much attention. Based on the low efficiency of data collection and extraction, the inconsistency of data analysis, the irregularity of data report and the high timeliness of data update during the epidemic, this paper briefly analyzed the background and reasons of data application under the current situation, and then discusses the problems and feasible solutions of clinical data applications under the epidemic situation and, more importantly, for future medical clinical research methods. We put forward several methodological suggestions: ① gradually improve the medical big data model and establish the national medical health data center; ② improve the scientific research literacy of medical staff and popularize the basic skills and knowledge of GCP; ③ promote a scientific, networked and shared data collection and management mode; ④ use the mixed research method and collective analysis to improve the efficiency of clinical data analysis; ⑤ pay attention to narration of the medical feelings and emphasize the humanistic data of clinical medicine. It is expected to promote the standardized and reasonable use of clinical scientific research data, the rigorous integration of expert opinions, and ultimately the development of big data for national health care.

Os métodos mistos de pesquisa são definidos como um processo de recolhimento, análise e "mistura" de dados quantitativos e qualitativos durante determinado estágio da pesquisa em um único estudo. Na área da Educação Física, esse método de pesquisa é uma combinação de abordagens relativamente nova. Assim, o presente ensaio teve como objetivo construir orientações fundamentais para o desenvolvimento de estudos de métodos mistos na área da Educação Física. Conclui-se, pois, que a busca pelo entendimento de como se dá o desenvolvimento de um estudo de métodos mistos pode auxiliar o pesquisador diante das construções de pesquisas, além de trazer contribuições para os avanços científicos.


Mixed research methods are defined as a process of collecting, analyzing and "mixing" quantitative and qualitative data during a given stage of research and in a single study. In the area of Physical Education, this research method is a relatively new combination of approaches. Thus, this essay aimed to build fundamental orientations for the development of mixed methods studies in the Physical Education area. It is concluded, therefore, that the search for the understanding of how the development of a mixed methods study takes place can help the researcher in the face of the research constructions, besides bringing contributions to the scientific advances.


Los métodos de investigación mixtos se definen como un proceso de recopilación, análisis y "mezcla" de datos cuantitativos y cualitativos durante una etapa dada de investigación y en un solo estudio. En el área de Educación Física, este método de investigación es una combinación relativamente nueva de enfoques. Por lo tanto, este ensayo tuvo como objetivo construir orientaciones fundamentales para el desarrollo de estudios de métodos mixtos en el área de Educación Física. Se concluye, por lo tanto, que la búsqueda de la comprensión de cómo tiene lugar el desarrollo de un estudio de métodos mixtos puede ayudar al investigador frente a las construcciones de investigación, además de aportar contribuciones a los avances científicos.
