ABSTRACT

This paper introduces a broadband triple-pole triple-throw (3P3T) RF MEMS switch with a frequency range from DC to 380 GHz. The switch achieves precise signal control and efficient modulation through its six-port design. It achieves an insertion loss of -0.66 dB across its frequency range, with isolation and return loss metrics of -32 dB and -15 dB, respectively. With its low actuation voltage of 6.8 V and rapid response time of 2.28 µs, the switch exemplifies power-efficient and prompt switching performance. The compact design is ideal for integration into space-conscious systems. This switch is pivotal for 6G research and has potential applications in satellite communications, military radar systems, and next-generation radio applications that require multi-antenna access.

ABSTRACT

Vibrational spectroscopy allows the investigation of structural properties of pristine and doped poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) in highly anisotropic materials, such as electrospun micro- and nanofibers. Here, we compare several approaches for doping P3HT fibers. We have selected two different electron acceptor molecules as dopants, namely iodine and 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (F4TCNQ). In the case of iodine, we have explored the doping of the fibers according to several different procedures, i.e., by sequential doping both in vapors and in solution, and with a novel promising one-step method, which exploits the mixing of the dopant to the electrospinning feed solution. Polarized infrared (IR) spectroscopy experiments prove the orientation of P3HT chains, with the polymer backbone mainly running parallel to the fiber axis. After doping, P3HT fibers show very strong and polarized doping-induced IR active vibrations (IRAVs), which are the spectroscopic signature of the structure relaxation induced by the charged defects (polarons), thus providing an unambiguous proof of the effective doping. Raman spectroscopy complements the IR evidence: The Raman spectrum shows a clearly recognizable shift of the main band, the so-called effective conjugation coordinate band, in the doped samples. A simple protocol, which quantifies the evolution of the IRAV bands with time, allows monitoring of the doping stability over time and confirms that F4TCNQ is by far superior to iodine.

Photorechargeable supercapacitors are promising next-generation renewable energy storage devices. Previously, a hybrid structure consisting of indium-tin oxide branched nanowires (ITO BRs) and poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) was demonstrated as a photorechargeable supercapacitor. However, the formation mechanism of photovoltage has not been studied. Herein, we experimentally investigated the photovoltage-determining parameters in the ITO BRs/P3HT photorechargeable supercapacitor by inserting a polyethylenimine ethoxylated (PEIE) interlayer or adding a phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) electron acceptor. Coating the PEIE interlayer on ITO BRs decreased the work function by 0.5 eV and hindered the hole extraction from P3HT to ITO BRs, leading to interfacial recombination and a decrease in photovoltage. On the other hand, the addition of PCBM promoted the charge transfer of the electrons from P3HT to PCBM, enhanced the redox reaction at the PCBM/electrolyte interface, and reduced the number of accumulated electrons, leading to a decreased photovoltage. From these results, we found that two key parameters determine the photovoltage and charge storage capability; one is the interfacial recombination at the ITO BRs/P3HT interface and the other is the redox reaction at the P3HT/electrolyte interface.

Background: Peach allergy is common food allergen. Allergen components-specific antibodies of different isotypes in peach-allergy patients are poorly studied. Factors other than Pru p 3-sIgE levels may be related to severe symptoms. Objective: To evaluated peach component-specific-IgE, IgG1, and IgG4 characteristics in individuals with and without peach allergy, and Pru p 3-sIgE affinity in patients with different clinical symptoms. Methods: Fifteen healthy controls and 32 peach-allergy patients were enrolled. sIgE, sIgG1, and sIgG4 to 5 Escherichia coli-expressed peach-allergen components were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Pru p 3-sIgE affinity was measured in Pru p 3-sIgE-positive patients, using immunoadsorbance. Results: Patients were divided into oral allergy syndrome (OAS) and peach-induced anaphylaxis (PIA) groups. Serum Pru p 1-, Pru p 2-, Pru p 3-, Pru p 4-, and Pru p 7-sIgG1s were detected. Pru p 1- and Pru p 2-sIgG1 levels were higher in healthy controls, but Pru p 3-sIgG1 levels were significantly higher in peach-allergy patients. Pru p 1-, Pru p 3-, and Pru p 4-sIgG4-positivity was significantly greater among patients than among controls. Pru p 3 was the predominant allergen in peach-allergy patients. Allergen-sIgG1 and sIgG4 were similar between OAS and PIA patients. Pru p 3-sIgE levels were significantly higher in PIA patients, but Pru p 3-sIgE-positivity was similar in both groups. In Pru p 3-sIgE-positive patients, Pru p 3-sIgE affinity was significantly higher in PIA than OAS patients. Conclusions: Allergen-sIgG1 was associated with allergen exposure. Both Pru p 3-sIgE levels and affinity are key factors in severe peach-allergy patients.

ABSTRACT

Organic electronics have great potential due to their flexible structure, high performance, and their ability to build effective and low-cost photodetectors. We investigated the parameters of the P3HT and PCBM layers for device performance and optimization. SCAPS-1D simulations were employed to optimize the thicknesses of the P3HT and PCBM layers, investigate the effects of shallow doping in the P3HT layer, and assess the influence of the back contact electrode's work function on device performance. Furthermore, this study explored the impact of interface defect layer density on the characteristics of the device. Through systematic analyses, the optimal parameters for enhancing device responsivity were identified. The findings indicate that a P3HT layer thickness of 1200 nm, a PCBM layer thickness of 20 nm, and a back contact electrode with a work function of 4.9 eV achieve the highest responsivity. Notably, at a bias of -0.5 V, the responsivity exceeds 0.4 A/W within the wavelength range of 450 nm to 630 nm. These optimized parameters underscore the significant potential of the developed device as an organic photodetector, particularly for visible light detection.

The current study examines the effects of trait aggressiveness, inhibitory control and emotional states on aggressive behavior in a laboratory paradigm. One hundred and fifty-one adult participants took part (73 men, 71 women, and 7 nondisclosed). Event Related Potentials (ERPs) during a Go/No-Go task were utilized to capture the extent of inhibitory processing, with a laboratory provocation paradigm used to assess aggression. Contrary to the expectations, negative affective responses to provocation were negatively associated only with short-lived aggression and only among those with high past aggressiveness. Furthermore, past aggressiveness was related to a continuous increase in laboratory aggressive behavior regardless of the level of inhibitory control (P3 difference amplitude). However, feeling hostile was associated with short-lived aggressive behavior, only in those with lower levels of inhibitory control. These findings demonstrate the effect of distinct mechanisms on different patterns of aggressive behavior.

ABSTRACT

Sensory memory traces are assessed via oddball paradigms in which deviant (infrequent) stimuli are interspersed into a string of standard (frequent) stimuli. Once a memory trace for the standard is established, the deviant spurs a change detection response measured via the resulting event related potential (ERP). Response magnitude is sensitive to the differences in stimuli properties or categories and influenced by individual experience. The goal of the present study was to use ERPs to test the relation between individual digits in the somatosensory cortex and the extent to which digit representations are influenced by individual differences in experience such as independent mobility and playing video games. The present study of 60 undergraduates utilized a passive tactile oddball paradigm, stimulating the thumb, middle, and little fingers. The oddball paradigm was fully matched with each digit serving as the standard and deviant. A temporal principal component analysis (tPCA) identified factors that matched three a priori ERP components: N80, somatosensory mismatch negativity (sMMN), and P300. Analyses confirmed the anticipated differences between standards and deviants and provided some support for prior ERP work suggesting the thumb is in a different functional category than the other digits. Independent control of individual digits (such as the little finger) was positively related to only one aspect of the ERP (P3a) while video game experience was not associated with ERP differences. Cumulatively, these results provide a more nuanced examination of tactile oddball paradigms and how ERP methods can shed light on the relations between different digits.

ABSTRACT

Wildfire is an important natural disturbance agent in Canadian forests, but it has also caused significant economic damage nationwide. Spatial fire growth models have emerged as important tools for representing wildfire dynamics across diverse landscapes, enabling the mapping of key wildfire hazard metrics such as location-specific burn probabilities or likelihoods of fire ignition. While these summary metrics have gained popularity, they often fall short in capturing the directional spread of wildfires and their potential spread distances. The metrics depicting the directional spread of wildfire can be derived from raw outputs generated with fire growth models, such as the perimeters and ignition locations of individual fires, but extracting this information requires complex data processing. To address this data gap, we present PostBP, an open-source Python package designed for post-processing the raw outputs of fire growth models - the ignition locations and perimeters of individual fires simulated over multiple stochastic iterations - into a matrix of fire spread likelihoods between all pairs of forest patches in a landscape. The PostBP also generates several other summary outputs, such as the source-sink ratio and the fire spread rose diagram. We provide an overview of PostBP's capabilities and demonstrate its practical application to a forested landscape.•Wildfire growth models generate large amounts of outputs, which are hard to summarize for practical decision-making.•The PostBP package calculates the summary metrics characterizing the directional spread of wildfires.•The fire risk summaries generated with PostBP can support the assessments of wildfire risk and mitigation measures.

ABSTRACT

Organic-inorganic hybrid thermoelectric (TE) materials have attracted tremendous interest for harvesting waste heat energy. Due to their mechanical flexibility, inorganic-organic hybrid TE materials are considered to be promising candidates for flexible energy harvesting devices. In this work, enhanced TE properties of Tellurium (Te) nanowires (NWs)- poly (3-hexylthiophene-2, 5-diyl) (P3HT) hybrid materials are reported by improving the charge transport at interfacial layer mediated via controlled oxidation. A power factor of ≈9.8 µW (mK2)-1 is obtained at room temperature for oxidized P3HT-TeNWs hybrid materials, which increases to ≈64.8 µW (mK2)-1 upon control of TeNWs oxidation. This value is sevenfold higher compared to P3HT-TeNWs-based hybrid materials reported in the literature. MD simulation reveals that oxidation-free TeNWs demonstrate better templating for P3HT polymer compared to oxidized TeNWs. The Kang-Snyder model is used to study the charge transport in these hybrid materials. A large σE0 value is obtained which is related to better templating of P3HT on oxygen-free TeNWs. This work provides evidence that oxidation control of TeNWs is critical for better interface-driven charge transport, which enhances the thermoelectric properties of TeNWs-P3HT hybrid materials. This work provides a new avenue to improve the thermoelectric properties of a new class of hybrid thermoelectric materials.

ABSTRACT

Zinc-finger proteins are involved in many biological processes. However, the role of Zinc-finger protein 334 (ZNF334) in cervical cancer remains unidentified. This study showed that promoter methylation of ZNF334 was responsible for its reduced expression. ZNF334 suppressed malignant biological behaviors in cervical cancer. Notably, ZNF334 reversed the EMT process both in vitro and in vivo. RNA-seq coupled with bioinformatics analysis caught P3H3 which is upregulated by ZNF334. Dual-luciferase reporter and Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays illustrated that ZNF334 directly regulate P3H3. Knockdown of P3H3 attenuated the reversal of EMT induced by ZNF334. Additionally, ZNF334 overexpression sensitized cervical cancer cells to the cytotoxic effects of paclitaxel, cyclosporine and sunitinib. In conclusions, this study illustrated that DNA methylation-based silencing ZNF334 played a vital role in cervical cancer, by regulating P3H3 in turn affects EMT. ZNF334 has the potential to become a novel diagnostic biomarker and a potential treatment target for cervical cancer.

BACKGROUND/AIM: This study evaluated the association between programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) and prognosis in patients with cervical cancer treated with postoperative radiation and the impact of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) on this association. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Immunohistochemical analysis was performed on biopsy specimens from 42 patients who did not receive NAC and from paired samples before (biopsies) and after (resected tissues) chemotherapy from 46 patients who received NAC to determine the association of PD-L1 with radiotherapy outcomes. RESULTS: In the non-NAC group, patients with ≥10% PD-L1-expressing tumor cells prior to treatment had better recurrence-free survival (RFS) than those with <10% PD-L1-expressing tumor cells (p=0.001). In the NAC group, RFS was significantly lower (p=0.005) in the group with a ≥5% reduction of PD-L1 expression in tumor cells after chemotherapy than in those with <5% reduction. In multivariate analysis, only PD-L1 expression (non-NAC group) and the change in PD-L1 expression (NAC group) were associated with RFS. CONCLUSION: Low PD-L1 expression in a cervical tumor prior to treatment was identified as a risk factor for a poor outcome after postoperative radiotherapy. Furthermore, NAC induces an immunological shift that reduces PD-L1 levels in tumor cells, thereby negatively impacting treatment outcomes.

Introduction: Urothelial Bladder Cancer (BC) is the ninth most common cancer worldwide. It is classified into Non Muscle Invasive (NMIBC) and Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (MIBC), which are characterized by frequent recurrences and progression rate, respectively. The diagnosis and monitoring are obtained through invasive methods as cystoscopy and post-surgery biopsies. Thus, a panel of biomarkers able to discriminate BC based on grading or staging represents a significant step forward in the patients' workup. In this perspective, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerged as reliable candidates as potential biomarker given their specific and regulated expression. In the present work we propose two lncRNAs, the Small Ubiquitin Modifier 1 pseudogene 3 (SUMO1P3), a poorly characterized pseudogene, and the Urothelial Carcinoma Associated 1 (UCA1) as candidates to monitor the BC progression. Methods: This study was a retrospective trial enrolling NMIBC and MIBC patients undergoing surgical intervention: the expression of the lncRNA SUMO1P3 and UCA1 was evaluated in urine from 113 subjects (cases and controls). The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to evaluate the performance of single or combined biomarkers in discriminating cases from controls. Results: SUMO1P3 and UCA1 expression in urine was able to significantly discriminate low grade NMIBC, healthy control and benign prostatic hyperplasia subjects versus high grade NMIBC and MIBC patients. We also demonstrated that miR-320a, which binds SUMO1P3, was reduced in high grade NMIBC and MIBC patients and the SUMO1P3/miR-320a ratio was used to differentiate cases versus controls, showing a statistically significant power. Finally, we provided an automated method of RNA extraction coupled to ddPCR analysis in a perspective of clinical application. Discussion: We have shown that the lncRNA SUMO1P3 is increased in urine from patients with high grade NMIBC and MIBC and that it is likely to be good candidate to predict bladder cancer progression if used alone or in combination with UCA1 or with miRNA320a.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) have received attention owing to their biodegradability and biocompatibility, with studies exploring PHA-producing bacterial strains. As vegetable oil provides carbon and monomer precursors for poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (P(3HB-co-3HHx)), oil-utilizing strains may facilitate PHA production. Herein, Cupriavidus necator BM3-1, which produces 11.1 g/L of PHB with 5% vegetable oil, was selected among various novel Cupriavidus necator strains. This strain exhibited higher preference for vegetable oils over sugars, with soybean oil and tryptone determined to be optimal sources for PHA production. BM3-1 produced 33.9 g/L of exopolysaccharides (EPS), which was three-fold higher than the amount produced by H16 (10.1 g/L). EPS exhibited 59.7% of emulsification activity (EI24), higher than that of SDS and of EPS from H16 with soybean oil. To evaluate P(3HB-co-3HHx) production from soybean oil, BM3-1 was engineered with P(3HB-co-3HHx) biosynthetic genes (phaCRa, phaARe, and phaJPa). BM3-1/pPhaCJ produced 3.5 mol% of 3HHx and 37.1 g/L PHA. BM3-1/pCB81 (phaCAJ) produced 32.8 g/L PHA, including 5.9 mol% 3HHx. Physical and thermal analyses revealed that P(3HB-co-5.9 mol% 3HHx) was better than PHB. Collectively, we identified a novel strain with high vegetable oil utilization capacity for the production of EPS, with the option to engineer the strain for P(3HB-co-3HHx).

Background: Multidomain intervention may delay or ameliorate cognitive decline in older adults at risk of Alzheimer's disease, particularly in the memory and inhibitory functions. However, no study systematically investigates the changes of brain function in cognitively-normal elderly with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) when they receive multidomain intervention. Objective: We aimed to examine whether a multidomain intervention could improve neuropsychological function and neurophysiological activities related to memory and inhibitory function in SCD subjects. Methods: Eight clusters with a total of 50 community-dwelling SCD older adults were single-blind, randomized into intervention group, which received physical and cognitive training, or control group, which received treatment as usual. For the neuropsychological function, a composite Z score from six cognitive tests was calculated and compared between two groups. For the neurophysiological activities, event-related potentials (ERPs) of memory function, including mismatch negativity (MMN) and memory-P3, as well as ERPs of inhibitory function, including sensory gating (SG) and inhibition-P3, were measured. Assessments were performed at baseline (T1), end of the intervention (T2), and 6 months after T2 (T3). Results: For the neuropsychological function, the effect was not observed after the intervention. For the neurophysiological activities, improved MMN responses of ΔT2-T1 were observed in the intervention group versus the control group. The multidomain intervention produced a sustained effect on memory-P3 latencies of ΔT3-T1. However, there were no significant differences in changes of SG and inhibition-P3 between intervention and control groups. Conclusions: While not impactful on neuropsychological function, multidomain intervention enhances specific neurophysiological activities associated with memory function.

INTRODUCTION: Toxoplasma gondii is an opportunistic intracellular parasite that is a major pathogenic factor in miscarriage, especially when it occurs early in pregnancy. We have previously demonstrated that the regulation of forkhead box transcription factor (Foxp3) is associated with abortion in early pregnancy caused by excretory-secretory antigen (ESA) of strain China 1. We aimed to reveal the underlying mechanism of miscarriage caused by ESA. METHODS: A TLR4-/- pregnant mouse model was successfully constructed. Pregnant mice at gestational day 5 (G5) were injected with ESA. All animals were sacrificed on G13, pregnancy outcomes were observed, and abortion rates were calculated. Placental status observed by Hematoxylin-eosin staining; gene expression was measured by IHC; flow cytometry analysis was used to determine the number and function of regulatory T cells. In EL4 cells, real-time PCR and Western blot were used to evaluate gene expression and cytokines assay. RESULTS: In vivo studies revealed that ESA injection caused 83% abortion in pregnant mice but only 35% abortion in TLR4-/- pregnant mice. In addition, ESA attenuated the number and function of regulatory T cells, further suppressed Foxp3, FOXO1 levels, and upregulated CD127 expression. TLR4-/- mice partially reversed this inhibitory effect on regulatory T cells. Furthermore, in vitro studies revealed that ESA inhibited TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway expression and that TLR4 agonists significantly restored the ESA-induced decrease in Foxp3. DISCUSSION: These findings suggest that ESA suppresses Foxp3 expression by blocking TLR4/NF-κB signaling, resulting in miscarriage. More importantly, the results indicated that miscarriage caused by ESA is TLR4 dependent.

The clinical management of wounds presents a considerable challenge because dressing selection must prioritise the provision of appropriate barrier and the healing properties, consider patient's compliance factors such as comfort, functionality and practicality. This study primarily aimed to develop a composite scaffold patch for potential application in wound healing. Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB-co-4HB)] is a biopolymer that originated from bacteria. It is well-recognised owing to its distinctive mechanical and physical characteristics suitable for biomedical applications. Graphene (G) and bioactive glass (BG) are biocompatible towards humans, and enhanced properties are achievable by adding biopolymer. In this study, composite scaffolds were developed by combining P(3HB-co-4HB) at a distinct proportion of 4HB monomer reinforced with G (3.0 wt.%) and BG (2.5 wt.%) by using solvent casting, resulting in two types of composite scaffolds: P(3HB-co-25%4HB)/G/BG and P(3HB-co-37%4HB)/G/BG. A successful composite scaffold as a unified structure was achieved based on chemical assessments of organic and inorganic elements within the composites. The pure polymer displayed a smooth surface, and the BG and G addition into the composite scaffolds increased surface roughness, forming irregular pores and protuberances. The wettability and hydrophilicity of the composites significantly improved up to 40% in terms of water uptake. An increment in crystallisation temperature diminished the flexibility of the composite's scaffolds. Evaluation of Presto Blue biocompatibility demonstrated nontoxic behaviour with a dosage of less than 25.00 mg ml-1of composite scaffold-conditioned media. The L929 fibroblast cells displayed excellent adhesion to both types of composite scaffolds, as evidenced by the increased percentage of cell viability observed throughout 14 d of exposure. These findings demonstrate the importance of optimising each component within the composite scaffolds and their interrelation, paving the way for excellent material properties and enhancing the potential for wound healing applications.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to use the Person-Centered Coordinated Care Experience Questionnaire (P3CEQ) to assess the experience of person-centered coordinated care among people with long-term conditions in the Balearic Islands, Spain. Methods: Over 1300 participants receiving treatment for chronic conditions or HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis were invited to complete the P3CEQ and a socio-demographic questionnaire, both administered electronically via the Naveta app. The P3CEQ assesses the key domains of the P3C through an 11-item questionnaire. Items 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 assess specifically person-centredness (PC subscale), while items 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 measure care coordination (CC subscale; question 7 includes 4 sub-questions to specifically assess care plans). Descriptive statistics were used to summarize patient characteristics and P3CEQ items scores. Data analysis included chi-squared test of independence, Student's t-test and analysis of variance test. Pairwise comparisons were adjusted by Bonferroni correction. Results: The P3CEQ and a socio-demographic questionnaire were sent to 1313 individuals (651 men, 657 women, 5 'other gender'). A response rate of 35.34% was achieved, with 464 P3CEQ responders (223 men and 241 women). Significant differences in response rates were observed by age, smoking status, alcohol consumption, membership of patient organizations, and use of alternative medicine. Care planning was rated significantly lower than other measured domains. Women experienced less person-centered care than men (16.64 vs 17.91) and rated care coordination worse than their male counterparts (9.18 vs 10.23). There were also differences in scores between medical condition types, with cancer and inflammatory bowel disease patients rating highest for both person-centered care (21.20 and 19.13, respectively) and care coordination (10.70 vs 10.88, respectively). Patients with skin and rheumatic diseases rated lowest their experience of person-centered care. People with higher education and those employed or studying experienced better person-centeredness. Conclusion: Using the P3CEQ, we detected significant differences in the care experiences of people with chronic conditions, suggesting the need to address potential gender biases, social inequalities, and the poorer ratings observed for certain conditions in the study population.

ABSTRACT

Food allergy (FA) has shown an increasing prevalence in the last decades, becoming a major public health problem. However, data on the prevalence of FA across the world are heterogeneous because they are influenced by several factors. Among IgE-mediated FA, an important role is played by FA related to plant-derived food which can result from the sensitization to a single protein (specific FA) or to homologous proteins present in different foods (cross-reactive FA) including non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs), profilins, and pathogenesis-related class 10 (PR-10). In addition, the clinical presentation of FA is widely heterogeneous ranging from mild symptoms to severe reactions up to anaphylaxis, most frequently associated with nsLTP-related FA (LTP syndrome). Considering the potential life-threatening nature of nsLTP-related FA, the patient's geographical setting should always be taken into account; thereby, it is highly recommended to build a personalized approach for managing FA across the world in the precision medicine era. For this reason, in this review, we aim to provide an overview of the prevalence of nsLTP-mediated allergies in the Mediterranean area and to point out the potential reasons for the different geographical significance of LTP-driven allergies with a particular focus on the allergenic properties of food allergens and their cross reactivity.

ABSTRACT

In the present paper the humidity sensing properties of regioregular rr-P3HT (poly-3-hexylthiophene) polymer films is investigated by means of surface acoustic wave (SAW) based sensors implemented on LiNbO3 (1280 Y-X) and ST-quartz piezoelectric substrates. The polymeric layers were deposited along the SAW propagation path by spray coating method and the layers thickness was measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique. The response of the SAW devices to relative humidity (rh) changes in the range ~5-60% has been investigated by measuring the SAW phase and frequency changes induced by the (rh) absorption in the rr-P3HT layer. The SAW sensor implemented onto LiNbO3 showed improved performance as the thickness of the membrane increases (from 40 to 240 nm): for 240 nm thick polymeric membrane a phase shift of about -1.2 deg and -8.2 deg was measured for the fundamental (~78 MHz operating frequency) and 3rd (~234 MHz) harmonic wave at (rh) = 60%. A thick rr-P3HT film (~600 nm) was deposited onto the quartz-based SAW sensor: the sensor showed a linear frequency shift of ~-20.5 Hz per unit (rh) changes in the ~5-~50% rh range, and a quite fast response (~5 s) even at low humidity level (~5% rh). The LiNbO3 and quartz-based sensors response was assessed by using a dual delay line system to reduce unwanted common mode signals. The simple and cheap spray coating technology for the rr-P3HT polymer films deposition, complemented with fast low level humidity detection of the tested SAW sensors (much faster than the commercially available Michell SF-52 device), highlight their potential in a low-medium range humidity sensing application.
