ABSTRACT

Christine Baveux is a classics teacher. After having worked in various schools, she joined the team of the Maison de Solenn - Maison des adolescents of the Cochin Hospital as a schooling manager in 2005. Her career, rich in experience, has enabled her to appreciate the suffering that some adolescents may experience at school, a suffering often expressed on the physical level.

ABSTRACT

Parents express ambivalent feelings of love and hatred towards their baby. These feelings are particularly related to the child's night wakings and the resulting sleep deprivation. The occurrence of night-time childhood phobias constitutes an organiser of the child's psychic life in order to implement the separation from the mother. Parental psychic positions are therefore very important at bedtime.

ABSTRACT

Conceitualmente, no primeiro caso, é acentuada a falta paterna e, no segundo, a falta materna.

The aim of the article is to analyze two cases of phobias in children: Juanito (Freud, 1909) and Sandy (Shnurmann, 1949) according to the clinical method. Triggering factor differ. Conceptually in the first case it is the accentuated lack of the paternal function and, in the second case, maternal deprivation. The symptom structure also differs: it is metaphorical, in the first case, and metonymic in the second. In both cases, it concerns the substitution of the lacking function.

ABSTRACT

Few studies have examined the relative impact of co-occurring child characteristics on problematic feeding behavior. The aim of the current study was to assess the relative contributions of parent-perceived child characteristics in multivariable models of child feeding behavior. One hundred sixty-one mothers reported on their child's feeding behavior and a number of key child characteristics. These characteristics were entered into controlled multivariable models of child feeding behavior, using child and parent frequency domains of the Behavioral Pediatrics Feeding Assessment Scale (BPFAS; W. Crist et al., 1994) as outcome measures. Child feeding problems were positively associated with food neophobia and external behavioral and social issues, but not with most domains of temperamental difficulty or sensory sensitivity. Feeding problem frequency was associated with externalizing symptoms whereas parental perceptions of problems and coping were associated with social-interaction problems in the child. Population feeding problems appear to be external and interactive problems rather than driven by innate or internalizing factors. The association with externalizing symptoms suggests that feeding problems at this level may fall within a wider profile of challenging behavior; however, the existence of problematic feeding behaviors may constitute a challenge for parents only when the child's social interactions also are seen to be deficient.

ABSTRACT

While today's society places considerable importance on schooling and performances, school absenteeism is currently very high. One of the causes is anxiety-based school refusal. This phenomenon affects the adolescent but also has an impact on their family. Exploring the experience of the parents of teenagers presenting anxiety-based school refusal enables these families to be given better support.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Seventy-five percent of patients with blood-injection-injury phobia (BII-phobia) report a history of fainting in response to phobic stimuli. This specificity may lead to medical conditions remaining undiagnosed and untreated, incurring considerable cost for the individual and society. The psychophysiology of BII-phobia remains poorly understood and the literature on effective treatments has been fairly sparse. Aims of the systematic review: to synthesize the psychophysiology of BII-phobia and to propose a systematic review of the literature on effectiveness of different treatments evaluated in this indication. RESULTS: Firstly, the most distinct feature of the psychophysiology of BII-phobia is its culmination in a vasovagal syncope, which has been described as biphasic. The initial phase involves a sympathetic activation as is typically expected from fear responses of the fight-flight type. The second phase is characterized by a parasympathetic activation leading to fainting, which is associated with disgust. Subjects with syncope related to BII-phobia have an underlying autonomic dysregulation predisposing them to neurally mediated syncope, even in the absence of any blood or injury stimulus. Many studies report that BII-phobic individuals have a higher level of disgust sensitivity than individuals without any phobia. Secondly, behavioral psychotherapy techniques such as exposure only, applied relaxation, applied tension, and tension only, have demonstrated efficacy with no significant difference between all these techniques. The disgust induction has not improved effectiveness of exposure. CONCLUSION: We have explained the psychophysiology of BII-phobia, the understanding of which is required to study and validate specific techniques, in order to improve the prognosis of this disorder, which is a public health issue.

ABSTRACT

This article discusses the symptom of phobia in psychoanalytic terms and the question of how sexuality functions in the formation of phobic symptoms, that is, between the imaginary effects of love and the fields of enjoyment and desire. Based on the premise that the phallus symbolizes an irreducible lack, phobia is considered a response by the subject entrenched between love in flight and the encounter with jouissance. The case of Little Hans positioned phobia as a response to the dissymmetry of love and the insistence of the drives.

ABSTRACT

The author presents Erwin Straus’ psychopathology of phoby and obsession (with reference to his texts On Obsession, Phenomenology of Hallucinations, and Vom Sinn der Sinne), bringing to light the implications concerning the role of language and gesture in the consistution (and the crisis) of the experiences of subjectivity and objectivity.
