ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the feasibility of needling the Belt Vessel (BV) for low back pain. Methods: The relevant literature was systematically reviewed; the relationship between the BV and low back pain was illustrated; the clinical features of BV-related low back pain as well as the key points of acupoint selection in treatment were summarized, and the efficacy of needling the BV for treating low back pain was observed. Results: The BV is closely related to low back pain. The main clinical manifestations of BV-related low back pain include sagging distension in the low back, enlarged abdomen, and pain radiating to the groin. The main acupoints for treating low back pain via needling the BV include Mingmen (GV4), Wushu (GB27) and Ashi points near the transverse process of the third lumbar spine. Needling the BV can swiftly and effectively relieve both the low back pain and associated symptoms. Conclusion: Needling the BV can effectively alleviate the typical BV-related low back pain.

ABSTRACT

In order to better understand and implement the treating principle of acupuncture as "consolidating tendons when tendons involved in disorders", the author explored the necessity of this principle in view of "the depth of disorder and depth of needle insertion" through explaining the meanings of it in the classic literature. In combination with the clinical experience, three recognitions were proposed. When treating tendon disorder, the correct recognition of disease is very important. The coordination of ashi points and the distal points enhances the therapeutic effects. Besides, the modern anatomic knowledge is assisted to the selection of acupoints. The study results enrich the connotation of this treating principle, explore the approach to the clinical treatment of the disorders of bones, joints and soft tissues and improve the therapeutic effects.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of Chinese herbal fumigation plus beating with mulberry stick in treating heel pain. Methods: Sixty patients with heel pain were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 in each group. The treatment group was intervened by Chinese herbal fumigation plus beating with mulberry stick, and the control group was by orally taking Diclofenac Sodium Sustained Release Tablets plus external use of She Xiang Zhen Tong Gao (Moschus Analgesic Plaster). After one treatment course, the visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to observe the change of pain, and the clinical efficacies were also evaluated. Results: After intervention, the improvement of VAS score in the treatment group was more significant than that in the control group (P Conclusion:Chinese herbal fumigation plus beating with mulberry stick can produce a higher clinical efficacy than orally taking Diclofenac Sodium Sustained Release Tablets in treating heel pain.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To compare the therapeutic effect of warming-acupuncture and electroacupuncture in treating scapulohumeral periarthritis. [Methods] Eighty-four cases of scapulohumeral periarthritis were randomized to two groups: group A (n = 42) was treated with warming-acupuncture and group B ( n = 42) with electroacupuncture. Ten times constituted one treatment course and the therapeutic effect was evaluated after 3 treatment course. [ Results ] The cure rate and total effective rate were 71.4% and 95 .2% in group A and 42.8% and 78.6% in group B respectively ( x2 = 7.0, P
