ABSTRACT

As the department's team had been renewed in less than two years, it was necessary to invent a method to improve cohesion and communication, and to enhance the skills of professionals. This led to the creation of a training program using a variety of methods (theoretical training, care approaches and quality coffees).

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Based on the job demands-resources (JD-R) model, the present study aimed to validate "The Technical and Administrative Staff Quality of Life At Work" (TASQ@work), a new tool to assess the quality of life at work in academia focused on technical and administrative staff. Methods: This tool was developed by the QoL@Work research team, a group of expert academics in the field of work and organizational psychology affiliated with the Italian Association of Psychologists. The TASQ@work was elaborated in different steps. The first phase was aimed at the identification of the dimensions of the tool. The second phase was aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the tool. The validation process involved confirmatory analysis and measurement invariance of the various constructs selected. The analyses were performed in a convenience sample of two Italian universities in different regions (one in the Northwest and the second in Central Italy). Results: The sample was composed of 1820 Administrative Staff, comprising 69.4% from University 1 (N = 1,263) and 30.6% from University 2 (N = 557). The TASQ@work presented satisfactory psychometric properties (normality of the items, reliability and content, construct and nomological validity) and measurement invariance across gender, seniority, and Athenaeum. Discussion: The results indicate that the tool can be considered a reliable and valid instrument to assess job demands, job resources, and outcomes in the working life of technical and administrative academic staff. In this perspective, the present study represents the first contribution to the debate on the psychosocial risks in academic contexts by presenting a new tool, the TASQ@work, aimed at contextualizing the JD-R model to understand the role played by psychosocial aspects in affecting the well-being of the academic employees.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: As part of the multidisciplinary team, radiation therapists are in charge of elements of treatment preparation and delivery of radiotherapy to cancer patients. Helping scientific and technological improvements, more and more patients with cancer were treated with radiotherapy including hypofractionnated radiotherapy, that explain the increase of demands on services. The professional impacted by this increase of demands are radiation oncologists and medical physicists. The opportunity to push forward the radiation therapist's competencies appears with the possibility to shift them some tasks. In this context, a first work was performed with objectives to have an overview of the tasks shifted to radiation therapists in France, the tasks that they could perform but also to evaluate some criteria of job satisfaction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The committee of "new status and value of status" including six radiation oncologists (the French society of radiation oncology [SFRO] et national union of radiation oncologists [SNRO]) and six radiation therapists committee members of the French association of radiation therapists (AFPPE), built a questionnaire including three parts: demographic characteristics, tasks shifted and job satisfaction criteria. In total, the questionnaire included 19 questions and 24 items assessed with a four point-Likert scale (ranging from "completely disagree" to "completely agree"). This survey, formatting with google form, was tested by the committee members and the final version was sent to the SFRO, AFPPE and SNRO members, before being disseminated on the social networks. RESULTS: From November 18th 2022 to December 31st 2022, 492 responses were received (response rate=18.3%): 55 % of the respondents had at least 11 years of experience in radiotherapy. The respondents worked in different type of health facilities (36 % in specialized cancer centres, 19.5 % in private centers, 17.5% in university and general hospital, 10.2% in general hospital). More than » of the respondents had a teaching lecturer activity, 20% had a management team activity and a research activity for 18%. Less than 10% of the respondents had another degree than that of radiation therapist: university degree (n=27), degree in dosimetry (n=11) and master (n=3). More than 76% would like to be trained and to have access to the advanced practice, more than 50% would like expend competencies with a university degree, 30% with a master and 67% would like to participate in research. Forty-two percent of the respondents were involved in a task shifting (excluding decree relating to acts and activities carried out by radiation therapists) and among the radiation therapists non-involved, 63% would be interested in being. Regarding job satisfaction, 53% of the respondents were satisfied with their job and their salary and 68% believed that their job occupation is in line with their professional aspirations. More than 2/3 of the respondents described a significant workload and mental load, 53% thought to have time for their patient care and 70% felt some organisational difficulties. CONCLUSION: This survey shows: (i) A significant involvement of radiation therapists in the task shifting; (ii) A very strong demand for career development, in particular with existing degrees or to be created degree such as advanced practice; and (iii) The need to reinforce a job satisfaction for almost the half of the respondents, linked to a workload, a mental load and some organisational difficulties.

ABSTRACT

Improving the well-being at work of caregivers is a major challenge for our healthcare system. Both global and local solutions must be proposed. At the Marie-Lannelongue hospital, located in the Paris region, a structure dedicated to the well-being of caregivers at work, the "Bubble", has been set up. How does it work and what are its beneficial effects? How have the professionals received it? Is it an example to follow? These are some of the questions that a survey has enabled us to answer.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Organizational changes in the traditional work models demand studies on the management of the so called "Teleworking". OBJECTIVE: This research aims to analyse the teleworking management practices to subside organizations and leaders to improve their performance and enhance workers quality of life. METHODS: A survey was carried out with teleworkers to obtain their perception of the analyzed factors, using the survey monkey tool. The collected data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares - Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). RESULTS: The validated model for the practices analysis is composed of the constructs: business management, physical and people infrastructure, leadership, self-esteem, and job satisfaction. Based on the analysis carried out, it is suggested that organizations establish organizational telework policies, follow government policies and provide communication and competence plans. Moreover, it is crucial providing technologies and support to them and develop people management practices in teleworking. Leaders must provide confidence, a teleworking culture, professional advancement, integration, well-being, negotiation of goals and a training plan. The teleworker's satisfaction is due to the sustainability related to the work model and its choice defined by personal motivation, balance between personal and professional life and a sense of belonging. CONCLUSIONS: All variables observed, linked to the constructs and validated, can be considered by managers to improve human resource management and obtain better productivity results.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: In 2018, according to the latest report from the French National Cancer Institute (INCa), approximately 400,000 new cases of cancer in France were identified. Fifty-four percent were represented by men and 46% by women. The number of new cases increased between 2010 and 2018 (+6,000 cases for men and 23,000 for women). Hospital pharmacies caring for cancer patients must absorb this flow without having additional human resources or without being able to increase the capacity of the chemotherapy reconstitution unit. And this always while ensuring a quality according to the legal requirements. This increase of activity and the centralization of chemotherapy preparations bring with it new problems: musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The objective of this work is, through the improvement of work quality, to prevent and monitor the appearance of MSDs in pharmacy technician team. METHOD: Initially, using the Nordic questionnaire, an inventory of the pain and genes felt by the staff according to location and duration was conducted with pharmacy technician team. Secondly, an assessment of the risk of occurrence of MSDs in the pharmacy technician team according to the tasks performed was carried out using the Borg CR10 scale and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) checklist. RESULTS/DISCUSSION: The prevalence of musculoskeletal complaints over the last twelve months and the last seven days within the sample was highest for the wrists/hands (67% and 56%) and head/neck (56% and 33%). The severity index of musculoskeletal problems at work was 50% for the elbow region and 33% for the wrist/hand region. According to the OSHA checklist, the workstations for the preparation of cytotoxics and the workstations for the preparation of analgesics intended for the intrathecal route obtained a score greater than 5, which is equivalent to a risk of occurrence of MSDs. On the positions evaluated using Borg's CR10 scale, the following body regions saw a significant increase in the strain felt after a day of production: head/neck (P-value 0.04), upper back (P-value 0.03), lower back (P-value 0.03) and legs (0.04). CONCLUSION: This work made it possible to produce a map of the body regions affected, to identify the positions at risk and to assess the level of risk. Several approaches have been defined to prevent MSDs for the pharmacy technician team. Staff training, by one of the physiotherapists, in muscle warm-ups before a production day is planned. In the continuity of this approach, an expertise by an ergonomist, which could not be carried out due to the health situation and the preventive measures would be essential in order to put in place additional preventive and curative actions.

ABSTRACT

In burn units, odor is often underestimated or trivialized in relation to the critical context of the patients. However, their care is part of a concern for overall care, which also includes the caregiver and the visitor. The implementation of a project based on essential oils has allowed a team from the University Hospital of Toulouse to address this issue.

ABSTRACT

The health-sports centers were created in 2019 with the aim of organising, providing, educating and informing on the need for movement in life, and therefore on the practice of regular physical activity (PA). Since 2018, the university hospital centre (CHU) in Caen (14) has had two PA rooms within the facility itself, with a more global aim along three lines: CHU staff, medical care of the patients and university research.

ABSTRACT

The fact that the quality of life at work (QWL) in French public health care institutions has deteriorated illustrates the difficulties generated by the incomplete implementation of the governance tools resulting from the Hospital, Patients, Health and Territories Act. The policy of improving QWL is nonetheless quick to iron out the difficulties currently encountered thanks to the lessons learned from the American and British examples and the development of innovative methodological tools.

ABSTRACT

Improving the quality of life at work (QWL) is a major challenge for health establishments in order to contribute to the well-being of their employees, strengthen their attractiveness and guarantee the quality of care. The National Agency for the Support of the Performance of Health and Medical-Social Establishments offers three cross-sectional views that illustrate complementary ways of improving QWL: integrating corporate social responsibility into the establishment's project; working on the management of medical and non-medical time; and setting up a project to synchronise medical and non-medical time.

ABSTRACT

Quality of life in the workplace is something that nursing students have to think about. During their internships in particular, they have been able to get an idea of what awaits them in the field, and they have no shortage of ideas and proposals for improving their future working conditions, and thus the quality of care provided to patients.

ABSTRACT

Abstract In order to explore the functional relationship between Engagement and Quality of Life at Work, an associative research strategy was used. 221 employees of a higher education organization in Colombia participated, who voluntarily agreed to be part of the study. To evaluate the quality of life at work, the instrument "Profile of Quality of Work Life" developed by Gómez (2010)was applied, which consists of 39 items that evaluate 8 dimensions of this construct. To evaluate the variable Engagement, the adaptation made by Ospina and Delgado-Abella (2014) of the UWES - Utrecht Work Engagement Scale developed by Schaufeli and Bakker (2004) was used, which consists of 17 items that evaluate three dimensions: vigor, dedication and absorption. There was a significant association between the study variables. The relationship and the adjustment are presented in a model of structural equations. Evidence was found about the dimensions of the QWL that contribute most in the configuration of this variable, and the differences by sex in the punctuations of the research variables.

ABSTRACT

The context and constraints of modern medicine (hospital beds and caregivers' reductions, ambulatory shift, new therapeutic approaches, integration of supportive care…) combined with new societal and Health system changes (ageing population, chronic diseases, new requirements of the patients…) redefine the orientations of care and question professional practices. The participative approach (PA) as a model of team organization proposes solutions involving the skills of the various interacting caregivers and experimental knowledge and consideration of patient needs. The multi-professional staff (MPS) is a collaborative tool of this participative approach that federates a team around a health or care project personalized from the crosschecked eyes of care professionals and from a shared decision-making process. Its objective is to combine the improvement of quality of care with quality of life at work. It requires a transversal mindset of teams, intrinsic values and specific characteristics. Its organization is simple but requires some rules and we will develop the main steps to success. This article, which is the result of a joint reflection and experience of health professionals, shows the principles and wants to demonstrate the weakness of MPS. The interest of the French National Cancer Institute for this collaborative tool is an asset for further work in the perspective of generalization of MPS for all patients with chronic disease and not only for patients at palliative phase.
