ABSTRACT

Wearable computers can be used in different domains including healthcare. However, due to suffering from challenges such as faults their applications may be limited in real practice. So, in designing wearable devices, designer must take into account fault tolerance techniques. This study aims to investigate the challenging issues of fault tolerance in wearable computing. For this purpose, different aspects of fault tolerance in wearable computing namely hardware, software, energy, and communication are studied; and state of the art research regarding each category is analysed. In this analysis, the performed works using the fault tolerance techniques are included in the form of 25 components and referred to as "fault tolerance plan". Using this fault tolerance plan and the appropriate profile, the fault tolerance of any wearable system can be evaluated. In this article, fault tolerances of several of the most prominent works conducted in the field of wearable computing were evaluated. The obtained results, with the medical profile, showed that only one wearable system had a fault tolerance of 91%, with the other systems having a fault tolerance of 24% or less. Also, the results obtained from evaluating these works, with the military profile, showed that only one wearable system had a fault tolerance of 76%, with the other systems having a fault tolerance of 19% or less. These mean that few studies have been conducted on the fault tolerance of wearable computing.

ABSTRACT

The positive impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on second language (L2) learning is well-documented. An individual's attitude toward AI significantly influences its adoption. Despite this, no specific scale has been designed to measure this attitude, particularly in the Chinese context. To address this gap, our study aims to construct the AI-Assisted L2 Learning Attitude Scale for Chinese College Students (AL2AS-CCS) and evaluate its reliability, validity, and relationship with L2 proficiency. Our research comprises two phases, each involving separate samples. In Phase One (Sample 1: n = 379), we conducted exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to determine the factor structure of the AL2AS-CCS. The resulting two-factor structure consists of 12 items, categorized into cognitive and behavioral components. In Phase Two (Sample 2: n = 429), we performed confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to validate the factor structure and assess model fit. CFA in Sample 2 confirmed the factor structure and demonstrated a good model fit. Additionally, the AL2AS-CCS exhibited high criterion validity, internal consistency, and cross-gender invariance. Our findings suggest that the AL2AS-CCS is a valid measurement tool for assessing Chinese college students' attitude toward AI-assisted L2 learning. Moreover, Chinese college students were discovered to maintain a moderately positive attitude toward AI-assisted L2 learning. Additionally, a positive correlation was identified between this attitude and their L2 proficiency.

Background: Quality of life (QoL) is an important outcome that is used to measure the success of healthcare interventions. Valid and reliable instruments are required to assess QoL. Hence, we conducted this study to adapt and validate the QoL Index (QLI) among Hausa-speaking people with spinal cord injury (SCI) in northwest Nigeria. Method: Using the International Society for Pharmacoeconomic and Outcome Research principles of good practice and the consensus-based standards for the selection of health measurement instruments guidelines, the QLI-SCI version was translated into Hausa language and tested for content validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability among people with SCI in northwest Nigeria. Result: The Hausa QLI (HQLI) demonstrated good content validity (CVI = 92.18%), internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.855), and test-retest reliability (ICC =0.949 [95% CI, 0.916-0.969]). Conclusion: The HQLI can be deployed to assess QoL among Hausa-speaking people with SCI, thus promoting robust measurement of QoL in an SCI population.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To assess the psychometric properties of available developmental assessments for infants, aged 0-24 months. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted using the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews as a guideline. The following four databases: Medline, CINAHL, Embase, and Web of Science were used to retrieve articles. Assessments were analyzed for psychometric properties of reliability and validity. Results: Fifteen developmental assessments were identified and evaluated based on their psychometric properties from 20 number of articles. RESULTS: Three assessments including Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development 3rd Edition (BSID-III), Caregiver Reported Early Development Instruments (CREDI), and Ages and Stages Questionnaire 3rd Edition (ASQ-3), were identified to have the most supporting evidence. CONCLUSION: This study provided clinicians with an updated list of all-encompassing infant developmental assessments. Certain assessments require additional evidence regarding their psychometric properties to substantiate their clinical utility.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: To date, there is no consensus on how to standardize the assessment of ototoxicity in serial measurements. For the diagnosis of damage to the cochlear amplifier, measurement methods are required that have the highest possible test-retest reliability and validity for detecting persistent damage. Estimated distortion-product thresholds (LEDPT) based on short-pulse distortion-product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) level maps use individually optimal DPOAE stimulus levels and allow reliable quantitative estimation of cochlea-related hearing loss. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Hearing thresholds were estimated objectively using LEDPT and subjectively using modified Békésy tracking audiometry (LTA). Recordings were performed seven times within three months at 14 frequencies (f2 = 1-14 kHz) in 20 ears (PTA4 (0.5-4 kHz) < 20 dB HL). Reconstruction of the DPOAE growth behavior as a function of the stimulus levels L1, L2 was performed on the basis of 21 DPOAE amplitudes. A numerical fit of a nonlinear mathematical function to the three-dimensional DPOAE growth function yielded LEDPT for each stimulus frequency. For the combined analysis, probability distributions of hearing thresholds (LTA, LEDPT), DPOAE levels (LDP), and combinations thereof were determined. RESULTS: LTA and LEDPT each exhibited a test-retest reliability with a median of absolute differences (AD) of 3.2 dB and 3.3 dB, respectively. Combining LEDPT, LDP, and LTA into a single parameter yielded a significantly smaller median AD of 2.0 dB. CONCLUSION: It is expected that an analysis paradigm based on a combination of LEDPT, suprathreshold LDP, and fine-structure-reduced LTA would achieve higher test performance (sensitivity and specificity), allowing reliable detection of pathological or regenerative changes in the outer hair cells.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Functional Mobility Scale (FMS) in patients with cerebral palsy. Patients and methods: The validity and reliability study was conducted with 100 cerebral palsy patients (66 males, 34 females; mean age: 6.4±2.7 years; range, 2 to 18 years) between July 2015 and July 2018. The translation of the FMS was performed according to international standards. For test-retest reliability, 54 patients were reevaluated one week after the initial test with the Turkish version of the FMS, and Cohen's weighted kappa values were analyzed. The validity of the scale was assessed by correlating the FMS with the Gross Motor Function Classification System and the Gillette Functional Assessment Questionnaire Walking Scale. Twenty patients were evaluated by two researchers for interobserver reliability. Results: The kappa coefficients for test-retest reliability were 0.90 for FMS 5 m, 0.92 for FMS 50 m, and 0.91 for FMS 500 m. An evaluation of the validity revealed a significant correlation between FMS and the Gross Motor Function Classification System for all distances (r=-0.95, r=-0.96, and r=-0.92 for 5, 50, and 500 m, respectively; p <0.001), as well as the Gillette Functional Assessment Questionnaire Walking Scale (r=-0.95, r=-0.94, and r=-0.91 for 5, 50, and 500 meters, respectively; p <0.001). The kappa coefficients related to interobserver reliability were 0.73 for 5 m, 0.69 for FMS 50 m, and 0.81 for FMS 500 m. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the FMS can be considered a valid and reliable instrument for the assessment of cerebral palsy patients.

Ki-67, a nuclear protein expressed in all stages of cellular proliferation, is a valuable tool to assess tumor proliferation and has been linked to more aggressive tumor behavior. However, interlaboratory staining heterogeneity and inter-observer variability challenge its reproducibility. Round Robin tests are a suitable tool to standardize and harmonize immunohistochemical and molecular analyses in histopathology. The study investigates the interrater and interlaboratory reproducibility of Ki-67-scoring using both manual and automated approaches. Unstained TMA slides comprising diverse tumor types (breast cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, lymphomas, and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma) were distributed to six pathology laboratories, each employing their routine staining protocols. Manual and automated scoring methods were applied, and interrater and interlaboratory agreement assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). The results highlight good-to-excellent reliability overall, with automated scoring demonstrating higher consistency (ICC 0.955) than manual scoring (ICC 0.871). Results were more variable when looking at the individual entities. Reliability remained good for lymphomas (ICC 0.878) and breast cancer (ICC 0.784) and was poor in well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (ICC 0.354). This study clearly advocates standardized practices and training to ensure consistency in Ki-67-assessment, and it demonstrates that this can be achieved in a peer-to-peer approach in local quality-circles.

ABSTRACT

Background: This study aimed to develop an instrument for assessing physical functioning among adults aged 50 years or older living in the community. Methods: Based on a review of various national health surveys and cohort studies, a 144-item bank was constructed for assessing physical functioning. Focus group interviews were conducted among adults aged 50 years or older to investigate their level of understanding of 60 selected items, followed by a pretest of the items on a nationally representative sample (n = 508). The final 25-item questionnaire was tested on an independent sample (n = 259) for validity and reliability based on classical test and item response theories. Predictive validity at the 6-month follow-up was tested in a separate sample (n = 263). Results: The newly developed Life Functioning (LF) scale assessed the dimensions of functional limitations, disabilities, and social activities. The scale satisfied a one-dimensionality assumption with good item fit and demonstrated criterion validity, construct validity, high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.93), and test-retest reliability (intra-class correlation coefficient = 0.84; 95% CI, 0.76-0.89). The LF scale comprised 25 items with a total score ranging from 0 to 100. Higher scores indicated higher levels of functioning. The LF score was significantly associated with the physical functioning score at 6 months. Conclusion: The LF scale was developed to assess the physical functioning of people in their late midlife or older. Future studies should test the instrument on a national sample and evaluate its application in diverse population subgroups.

ABSTRACT

Practical application of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has suffered from several limitations by heterogeneous distribution of hot-spots, such as high signal fluctuation and the resulting low reliability in detection. Herein, we develop a strategy of more sensitive and reliable SERS platform through designing spatially homogeneous gold nanoparticles (GNPs) on a uniform gold nanoisland (GNI) pattern. The proposed SERS substrate is successfully fabricated by combining two non-lithographic techniques of electron beam evaporation and convective self-assembly. These bottom-up methods allow a simple, cost-effective, and large-area fabrication. Compared to the SERS substrates obtained from two separate nanofabrication methods, Raman spectra measured by the samples with both GNPs and GNIs present a significant increase in the signal intensity as well as a notable improvement in signal fluctuation. The simulated near-field analyses demonstrate the formation of highly amplified plasmon modes within and at the gaps of the GNP-GNI interfaces. Moreover, the suggested SERS sensor is evaluated to detect the glucose concentration, exhibiting that the detection sensitivity is improved by more than 10 times compared to the sample with only GNI patterns and a fairly good spatial reproducibility of 7% is accomplished. It is believed that our suggestion could provide a potential for highly sensitive, low-cost, and reliable SERS biosensing platforms that include many advantages for healthcare devices. ABSTRACT

Objective: To develop and evaluate a Chinese version of the Symptom Questionnaire for Visual Dysfunctions (CSQVD) to quantify visual dysfunction symptoms in school-age children with various eye diseases, and to explore the relationship between ophthalmological disorders and visual dysfunction symptoms. Methods: Following standard scale adaptation procedures, the Symptom Questionnaire for Visual Dysfunctions (SQVD) was translated into Chinese (CSQVD). We employed random sampling to survey 198 outpatients aged 7-18 to assess the psychometric properties of the CSQVD. Using the reliable and validated questionnaire, we evaluated the determinants of visual dysfunction symptoms among 406 school-age patients at an eye center. The CSQVD scores were correlated with demographic and clinical variables, including gender, age, eye position, refractive power, and best-corrected visual acuity. Univariate analysis identified potential risk factors, followed by binary logistic regression and multiple linear regression analysis on factors with a P-value <0.05. Results: The CSQVD scale's critical ratio (CR) values ranged from 6.028 to 10.604. The Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was 0.779, and Spearman-Brown split-half reliability was also 0.779. The I-CVI varied from 0.83 to 1.000, the S-CVI/Ave was 0.857, and the KMO value was 0.821. Multifactorial regression analysis indicated that high myopia (OR â€‹= â€‹5.744, 95% CI [1.632, 20.218], P â€‹= â€‹0.006) and amblyopia (OR â€‹= â€‹9.302, 95% CI [1.878, 46.058], P â€‹= â€‹0.006) were significant predictors of CSQVD symptoms. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that BCVA of amblyopic eyes (B â€‹= â€‹-5.052, 95% CI [-7.779, 2.325], P â€‹= â€‹0.000) and SE power (B â€‹= â€‹-0.234, 95% CI [-0.375, 0.205], P â€‹= â€‹0.001) significantly affected the CSQVD scale scores. Conclusions: The Chinese version of the SQVD scale (CSQVD) demonstrates good feasibility, discriminatory power, validity, and reliability in assessing Chinese school-aged children. Furthermore, those who have severe myopia and amblyopia reported more visual dysfunction symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Humanistic nursing practices scientifically improve the knowledge structure of nursing, enrich its theoretical system and support its development. Therefore, it is crucial to evaluate the humanistic practice abilities of nurses. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to test the psycholinguistic features, language and construct validity of the Humanistic Practice Ability of Nursing Scale and to examine it according to nurses' demographic characteristics. DESIGN AND METHODS: This study was a methodological type of analytical research conducted with 397 clinical nurses working in a hospital. A questionnaire including demographic information and evaluating empathy and compassion adequacy was used. Data were analyzed using explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, item-total score correlation, split-half analysis, t-test, analysis of variance and correlation analysis. RESULTS: The scale consists of 29 items and four factors, explaining 61.15% of the total variance. Factor loads were > 0.30. confirmatory factor analysis results were χ2/df: 2.58, GFI: 0.86, TLI: 0.91, IFI: 0.92, CFI: 0.92, RMSEA: 0.06, and SRMR: 0.03. The Cronbach alpha value for the full scale is 0.95. A significant relationship was found between the scale and empathy and compassion proficiency. It was observed that the scale scores differed according to the nurses' education level, working years and job satisfaction (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study shows that the Turkish version of the HPAN scale is valid and reliable for 29 items and four factors. The humanistic practice ability of nurses differ according to postgraduate education, years of working in the profession and professional satisfaction.

Introduction The number of cases of tibia diaphyseal fractures treated by Ilizarov fixation is increasing. Fractures with infective etiology and altered bone biology due to the requirement of revision surgery or open wounds, which are often treated by the Ilizarov method, have challenges in ascertaining radiological signs of union. In this study, we aim to demonstrate the application of the modified Radiological Union Score of Tibia (m-RUST) scores in the assessment of fracture union in patients operated by the Ilizarov method. The secondary aim is to assess the interobserver and intraobserver variability of the m-RUST score validated by orthopaedicians and radiologists. Methodology A total of 119 patients who were treated with an Ilizarov fixator from February 2017 to December 2023 were included in the study. Four observers (two orthopaedicians and two radiologists) independently applied the m-RUST score for the included patients. Clinical data were not disclosed to the observers who worked independently of each other. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to measure the reliability of the m-RUST score. Interobserver reliability was measured by examining the scores of four observers from the second assessment, and intra-observer variability was assessed by a repeat evaluation after two weeks following the first assessment. Results The m-RUST score of the 119 X-rays analysed ranged from 8 to 16. The mean score in the first assessment was 11.36±3.51, and in the second assessment was 11.42±3.39. The reliability between all the observers was "substantial agreement" (ICC: 0.74, 95% CI). The ICC among the orthopaedicians was 0.77 and that among the radiologists was 0.72. Conclusion The m-RUST score has potential in other long bone fractures such as femur or humerus. Assessment of the m-RUST score in the healing of infective sequel and bone grafting conditions has been found effective. The m-RUST score is a dependable score in evaluating union in tibia fractures treated by the Ilizarov frame.

OBJECTIVE: Investigating the optimal interstimulus interval (ISI) and the 24-hour test-retest reliability for intrahemispheric dorsal premotor cortex (PMd) - primary motor cortex (M1) connectivity using dual-site transcranial magnetic stimulation (dsTMS). METHODS: In 21 right-handed adults, left intrahemispheric PMd-M1 connectivity has been investigated with a stacked-coil dsTMS setup (conditioning stimulus: 75% of resting motor threshold; test stimulus: eliciting MEPs of 1-1.5 mV) at ISIs of 3, 5-8, and 10 ms. Additionally, M1-M1 short-interval intracortical inhibition (SICI) and intracortical facilitation (ICF) were investigated to assess comparability to standard paired-pulse setups. RESULTS: Conditioning PMd led to significant inhibition of M1 output at ISIs of 3 and 5 ms, whereas 10 ms resulted in facilitation (all, p < 0.001), with a fair test-retest reliability for 3 (ICC: 0.47) and 6 ms (ICC: 0.44) ISIs. Replication of SICI (p < 0.001) and ICF (p = 0.017) was successful, with excellent test-retest reliability for SICI (ICC: 0.81). CONCLUSION: This dsTMS setup can probe the inhibitory and facilitatory PMd-M1 connections, as well as reliably replicate SICI and ICF paradigms. SIGNIFICANCE: The stacked-coil dsTMS setup for investigating intrahemispheric PMd-M1 connectivity offers promising possibilities to better understand motor control.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Systematic reviews evaluating and comparing the measurement properties of outcome measurement instruments (OMIs) play an important role in OMI selection. Earlier overviews of review quality (2007, 2014) evidenced substantial concerns with regards to alignment to scientific standards. This overview aimed to investigate whether the quality of recent systematic reviews of OMIs lives up to the current scientific standards. METHODS: One hundred systematic reviews of OMIs published from June 1, 2021 onwards were randomly selected through a systematic literature search performed on March 17, 2022 in MEDLINE and EMBASE. The quality of systematic reviews was appraised by two independent reviewers. An updated data extraction form was informed by the earlier studies, and results were compared to these earlier studies' findings. RESULTS: A quarter of the reviews had an unclear research question or aim, and in 22% of the reviews the search strategy did not match the aim. Half of the reviews had an incomprehensive search strategy, because relevant search terms were not included. In 63% of the reviews (compared to 41% in 2014 and 30% in 2007) a risk of bias assessment was conducted. In 73% of the reviews (some) measurement properties were evaluated (58% in 2014 and 55% in 2007). In 60% of the reviews the data were (partly) synthesized (42% in 2014 and 7% in 2007); evaluation of measurement properties and data syntheses was not conducted separately for subscales in the majority. Certainty assessments of the quality of the total body of evidence were conducted in only 33% of reviews (not assessed in 2014 and 2007). The majority (58%) did not make any recommendations on which OMI (not) to use. CONCLUSION: Despite clear improvements in risk of bias assessments, measurement property evaluation and data synthesis, specifying the research question, conducting the search strategy and performing a certainty assessment remain poor. To ensure that systematic reviews of OMIs meet current scientific standards, more consistent conduct and reporting of systematic reviews of OMIs is needed.

Poor measurement quality has set back the utility of anthropometry in defining childhood malnutrition, prompting calls for alternative measurement techniques. This study aimed to assess the reliability of anthropometric measurements using a digital height board in comparison to an analog height board in Namibian children under 5 years of age. A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted (n = 425) between the age of 6 and 59 months, using anthropometric measurements of weight, height and mid-upper arm circumference. Two trained enumerators each collected four height measurements of each child: two using an analog height board and two using a digi-board. The repeated height measurements between and within the enumerators were used to determine intra- and interobserver reliability. Reliability of the digi-board was assessed using the technical error of measurement (TEM), relative TEM (%TEM), intraclass correlation and a Bland-Altman analysis to assess the agreement between the two methods. In all these assessments, the analog height board was considered as the gold standard and used for comparison. The digi-board showed superiority to the analog height board in terms of reliability (analog TEM = 0.22, digi-board TEM = 0.16). Although the digi-board has potential to improve child anthropometry, further clinical and large survey studies are needed to validate the used of this tool in routine population-based surveys.

Background and objectives: Overactive bladder (OAB) is characterized by urinary frequency and is recognized as a disorder. Various tools are available for diagnosing this condition. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Persian version of the 8-item Overactive Bladder Scale (OAB-V8). Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 150 OAB patients. The OAB-V8 scale was translated and culturally adapted following established guidelines. Face and content validity were assessed using the Impact Score (IS), Content Validity Index (CVI), and Content Validity Ratio (CVR) indices. Reliability was evaluated by calculating Cronbach's alpha (α) and utilizing the test-retest method (Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC)). Construct validity was explored through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). All statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS version 24 and AMOS version 24, with a significance level set at 5 %. Results: The face validity was confirmed, with all items having an IS value greater than 1.5. Content validity was also confirmed, as most items had a Content Validity Index (CVI) higher than 0.79, and the average Content Validity Ratio (CVR) value was 0.96. In the initial phase of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), the sample adequacy and suitability of the exploratory analysis were confirmed (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test value = 0.784, Bartlett's Test p-value <0.05). Two dimensions explaining 61.87 % of the variance were then extracted. In the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), the fit indices were deemed acceptable (χ^2/df = 2.006, CFI = 0.96, GFI = 0.95, AGFI = 0.89, TLI = 0.93, RMSEA = 0.08). The reliability was confirmed with an alpha coefficient of 0.81 and an Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) of 0.98. Conclusion: The Persian version of the OAB-V8 questionnaire demonstrated good validity and reliability, indicating its suitability for use in Persian-speaking countries.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The concept of sexual satisfaction in menopausal women is very different from that in premenopausal women, and this difference is due to aging and physical, hormonal, cultural, and psychological changes. Therefore, the first step in discovering methods for assessing sexual satisfaction in postmenopausal women is to develop a measurement instrument. This study was conducted to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of a sexual satisfaction instrument for postmenopausal women. METHODS: The current study is an exploratory-sequential mixed-methods research project that will be divided into two parts: qualitative and quantitative. Aligned with the primary objective of the research, which is to elucidate the concept of sexual satisfaction in postmenopausal women, the hybrid concept analysis model developed by Schwartz and Kim will be employed. This model comprises three key phases: the theoretical phase, the fieldwork phase, and the final analytical phase. Those who met the inclusion criteria and exhibited maximum variance in terms of age, educational level, employment status, and menopausal duration were recruited. The conventional content analysis will be carried out following the steps proposed by Graneheim and Lundman. Second, in the quantitative phase, the psychometric properties of the instrument were evaluated, including the content, face and construct validity and reliability via internal consistency and stability. The psychometric properties described in the COSMIN checklist will be utilized for designing the instrument. DISCUSSION: A valid and reliable scale for evaluating the sexual satisfaction of postmenopausal women should be developed, and educational content should be designed to improve the sexual satisfaction of this group of women.


Menopause is a natural event that is accompanied by numerous physical and psychological changes that create a complex period in the life of postmenopausal women. Sexual satisfaction is a component related to human sexuality and is known as the last stage of the sexual response cycle. Sexual satisfaction is defined as the emotional response resulting from the mental evaluation of positive and negative things in a sexual relationship. Sexual satisfaction is one of the important factors of satisfaction in married life. People who have sexual satisfaction have a significantly better quality of life than those who do not have sexual satisfaction. The concept of sexual satisfaction in menopausal women is very different from that in premenopausal women, and this difference is due to aging and physical, hormonal, cultural, and psychological changes. Sexual satisfaction is important for researchers for two reasons. First, sexual satisfaction provides a mechanism through which to assess a relationship partner's performance. Second, sexual satisfaction is a predictor of other aspects of the relationship, such as marital quality and stability. To discuss feelings and discover methods for achieving sexual satisfaction in postmenopausal women, it is necessary to understand the factors affecting sexual satisfaction and dissatisfaction in this group. The existing tools in the field of women's sexual satisfaction are not designed for this age group (menopausal women) and do not have the necessary comprehensiveness and adequacy to assess sexual satisfaction in menopausal women. Therefore, this study will be conducted to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of the sexual satisfaction of postmenopausal women.

Objective: The aims of this study were to examine changes in habitual optimism over a six-year period and to analyze the relationship between changes in optimism and changes in other quality of life-related variables. Method: A randomly selected community sample of the German adult general population (N = 4,965) was surveyed twice, with a time interval of 6.04 years. Results: During the course of the 6 years, the mean score of the LOT-R total scale improved (effect size d = 0.11). The temporal stability in terms of the test-retest correlation was r = 0.61 for the total sample. There were only marginal gender differences in this temporal stability, however, the stability in the oldest age group ≥70 years (r = 0.50) was lower than the stability of the other age groups. The cross-sectional correlations showed clear relationships between optimism on the one hand and quality of life, life satisfaction, social support, and low levels of anxiety and physical complaints on the other. The corresponding longitudinal correlations between changes in optimism and changes in the other variables were less pronounced, but in the same direction. Conclusion: The study confirmed the applicability of the LOT-R in longitudinal studies. In samples with participants of 70 years and above, the limited stability in the optimism assessments needs to be considered in clinical practice and epidemiologic research.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP) is the leading cause of disability and an increasing sick leave in Denmark. Psychosocial risk factors have been linked to the development of LBP-related disability and work-absenteeism. The short form Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire (ÖMPSQ-sf) was developed to screen for psychosocial risk factors and assess the risk of long-term disability and work-absenteeism. OBJECTIVE: To translate and cross-culturally adapt ÖMPSQ-sf into Danish and evaluate test-retest reliability with relative and absolute reliability and internal consistency in LBP-patients in a secondary setting. METHODS: A six-step translation and cross-culturally adaptation process was used. Forty-four patients with subacute and chronic LBP were recruited at an outpatient clinic. RESULTS: Test-retest reliability (n= 37) was found to be excellent (ICC2.1= 0.92), Internal Consistency (n= 44) was adequate (Cronbach's alpha = 0.72). Absolute reliability included Standard Error of Measurement (SEM = 3.97 points), 95% Limits of Agreement (95% LOA = 0.08, -15.90-15.74), and Smallest Detectable Change (SDC = 10.87 points). CONCLUSION: The Danish ÖMPSQ-sf showed acceptable measurements properties in subacute and chronic LBP-patients. Further research is needed to assess other measurement properties of the ÖMPSQ-sf, in relation to validity, responsiveness, and the predictive ability before application in research or clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess the reliability and validity of the Italian translation of the Unhelpful Thoughts and Beliefs about Stuttering (UTBAS) scales for adults who stutter, as there are no assessment tools currently available in Italy. The UTBAS scales provide a comprehensive stuttering-specific measure of the unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that can be used to screen for indicators of social anxiety in adults who stutter. Additionally, the UTBAS scales also allow the identification of negative thoughts and beliefs that negatively impact speech treatment outcomes. METHOD: The translation of the UTBAS scales into Italian (UTBAS-ITA) was completed using the forward-backward translation process and it was administered to 98 adults who stutter (AWS) and 98 adults who do not stutter (AWNS). Both groups were matched for gender and age. We also administered the UTBAS-ITA to 76 AWS a second time within a two-week interval to assess test-retest reliability. Additionally, we administered the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale to 20 AWS to assess concurrent validity. RESULTS: The UTBAS-ITA showed good power of discrimination between AWS and AWNS, high internal validity, high internal consistency, good construct validity, and good test-retest reliability. CONCLUSION: Since there is a scarcity of clinical assessment tools for adults who stutter in Italy, the UTBAS-ITA could serve as an assessment tool and outcome measure for clinical and research environments.
