ABSTRACT

In today's landscape of financial liberalization and economic integration, the sports industry is not immune to the complex interplay between financial and economic activities. This dynamic environment witnesses the frequent exchange of information within the sports financial market, resulting in a high degree of interaction. Such interaction has not only optimized the allocation of global financial resources in sports but has also amplified the repercussions and dissemination of financial crises within the sports sector. From the global sports financial system to individual sports entities, intricate relationships emerge in economic and financial activities among countries, forming a complex sports financial ecosystem. Understanding and characterizing the patterns of risk propagation and shock responses in the sports financial market is vital. It equips sports market participants and regulators with crucial market insights, aids in policy formulation, and enables proactive measures to prevent and address financial market crises within the sports industry. Considering the multifaceted interactions among various stakeholders in the sports financial market, this study adopts a complex network methodology to examine the dynamics of financial risk contagion and shock response, with a primary focus on the sports industry. This approach offers a valuable perspective, shedding light on the specific intricacies within the sports finance domain.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to describe the discordance between the self-perceived risk and actual risk of HIV among young men who have sex with men (YMSM) and its associated factors. An online, cross-sectional study was conducted with 405 men recruited from an Argentinian NGO in 2017. Risk discordance (RD) was defined as the expression of the underestimation of risk, that is, as a lower self-perception of HIV risk, as measured with the Perceived Risk of HIV Scale, than the current risk of HIV infection, as measured by the HIV Incidence Risk Index. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to analyze the associations between the RD and the explanatory variables. High HIV risk was detected in 251 (62%), while 106 (26.2%) showed high self-perceived risk. RD was found in 230 (56.8%) YMSM. The predictors that increased RD were consistent condom use with casual partners (aOR = 3.8 [CI 95:1.5-11.0]), the use of Growler to meet partners (aOR = 10.38 [CI 95:161-121.94]), frequenting gay bars (aOR = 1.9 [95% CI:1.1-3.5]) and using LSD (aOR = 5.44 [CI 95:1.32-30.29]). Underestimation of HIV risk in YMSM is associated with standard HIV risk behavior and modulated by psychosocial aspects. Thus, prevention campaigns aimed at YMSM should include these factors, even though clinical practice does not. Health professionals should reconsider adapting their instruments to measure the risk of HIV in YMSM. It is unknown what score should be used for targeting high-risk YMSM, so more research is needed to fill this gap. Further research is needed to assess what score should be used for targeting high-risk in YMSM.

ABSTRACT

We investigated possible sources of newly infected patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after the fourth wave in order to explore unknown sources. Retrospective chart review on all the confirmed patients with COVID-19 admitted to the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM) in Tokyo, Japan was conducted from May 22 through June 29, 2021. Among the 22 participants, 14 (64%) had a history of known high-risk infection behaviors. Of those, 12 reported that their activities involved eating and drinking. In addition, there were 24 high-risk situations, of those, 21 (88%) were related to indoor dining, and masks were not worn in 22 situations (92%). New source of infection has not been identified. In situations with a high known risk of infection, many cases were related to eating and drinking, and insufficient use of masks was evident. Raising risk awareness on infection prevention and control of COVID-19 is urgently needed.

ABSTRACT

The objective was to determine, through indirect immunofluorescence reaction (RIFI, 1:64), the occurrence of IgG antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii and the risk factors associated with infection in goats in the state of Sergipe. To this study were used 675 samples of blood of animals from 41 farms of the three state mesoregions from 2013 to 2014. The occurrence of seropositive goats was 30.07%, with 90.24% of farms with seropositive animals. The distribution of titers obtained was 37.93%, 11.82%, 17.24%, 18.22%, and 17.77% for 64, 128, 512 and 1024 respectively. The risk factors observed were farms that did not have facilities (p=0.000, OR=2.30, CI 95%=1.41-3.74), with flooded soils (p=0.011, OR=2.94, CI 95%=1.27-6.79), which provided feed on the ground (p=0.032, OR=1.69, CI 95%=1.04-2.74), in uncovered cages (p=0.032, OR=1.69, CI 95%=1.04-2.74), pasture-based feed (p=0.003, OR=3.52, CI 95%=1.53-8.09), with access from cats to (p=0.031, OR=1.45, CI 95%=1.03-2.04) and introduced new breeders in the last five years (p=0.036, OR=1.58, CI 95%=1.02-2.74).(AU)


O objetivo desse estudo foi determinar, através da reação de imunofluorescência indireta (RIFI, 1:64), a ocorrência de anticorpos IgG para o Toxoplasma gondii e os fatores de risco associados à infecção em rebanhos caprinos do estado de Sergipe, a partir de 675 amostras de sangue de animais de 41 propriedades das três mesorregiões do estado entre os anos de 2013 e 2014. A ocorrência de caprinos soropositivos foi de 30,07% com 90,24% de propriedades com animais soropositivos. A distribuição dos títulos obtidos foi de 37,93%, 11,82%, 17,24%, 18,22% e 17,77% para 64, 128, 512 e 1024 respectivamente. Os fatores de riscos observados foram propriedades que não possuíam instalações (p=0,000, OR=2,30, IC 95%=1,41-3,74), com terrenos alagados (p=0,011, OR=2,94, IC 95%=1,27-6,79), que disponibilizam a ração no chão (p=0,032, OR=1,69, IC 95%=1,04-2,74), em cochos descobertos (p=0,000, OR=1,97, IC 95%=1,32-2,94), alimentação à base de pastagem (p=0,003, OR=3,52, IC 95%=1,53-8,09), com acesso de gatos à fonte de água (p=0,031, OR=1,45, IC 95%=1,03-2,04) e que introduziram novos reprodutores nos últimos cinco anos (p=0,036, OR=1,58, IC 95%=1,02-2,74).(AU)

ABSTRACT

Dairy calf rearing unit is a management system that is only recently being implemented by some milk producer's cooperatives in southern Brazil. However, aspects related to the health profile of the heifer calves that arrive in the rearing unit as well as about biosecurity practices and microbiological challenges have not yet been evaluated in this rearing system in a tropical country. Diarrhea is the main and most frequent consequence of enteric infections in newborn calves. This study, through some etiological and epidemiological characteristics of an outbreak of neonatal diarrhea, has the aim to alert to the possibility of pathogenic microorganism spread in a dairy heifer calf rearing unit. The diarrhea outbreak presented some non-regular characteristics observed in bovine coronavirus (BCoV) enteric infections in dairy calves. The spread of infection was extremely rapid (1 week); the attack rate (> 50%) was much higher than that observed in calves subjected to conventional rearing; and the age range (5 to 90 days) of the affected heifer calves was much broader than that often observed in the BCoV diarrhea worldwide. These unusual epidemiological characteristics observed in this BCoV diarrhea outbreak raise awareness of the health threat present in calf rearing units as well as of the easy and rapid viral spread in a population of young animals from different dairy herds and, therefore, with very distinct immunological status.

ABSTRACT

Aeromonas species are broadly distributed in nature and agricultural environments and have been isolated from feces, bedding, and drinking water of healthy pigs. We assessed the incidence, virulence properties, and antimicrobial resistance profile of Aeromonas spp., isolated from pig feces. Antibiogram was done using the disc diffusion methods, and polymerase chain reaction was used for the detection of putative virulence genes. Identification of isolates revealed three phenotypic species with percentage distribution as follows: Aeromonas hydrophila 23 (45.1 %), Aeromonas caviae 16 (31.4 %), and Aeromonas sobria 12 (23.5 %). All Aeromonas isolates in the study were absolutely susceptible to cefotaxime and resistant to penicillin. A. cavaie and A. sobria demonstrated absolute susceptibility against ciprofloxacin and streptomycin. Aeromonas species showed varied susceptibility to cephalothin as follows: A. hydrophila 78.3 %, A. cavaie 93.7 %, and A. sobria 91.7 %. The percentage distribution of virulence genes among Aeromonas isolates were as follows: Aerolysin (aer) 74.5 %, flagellin gene (fla) 68.6 %, cytotoxin (hly A) 43.1 %, lipase (lip) 39.2 %, enterotoxic activities (ast) 31.3 %, and cytotonic gene (alt) 13.7 %. Reports from this study shows that Aeromonas species isolated from pig fecal samples are multi-drug resistant and possess virulence potential which may result to possible risk of human or animal infection and likely contamination of food and water from this sources.
