ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to assess the quality of various obturation techniques to fill perforation caused by internal root resorption using Micro-computed Tomography. METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography images of a maxillary central incisor tooth with perforating internal resorptive defect were used to create a 3D printed model of the affected tooth. The replicas were divided into four groups based on the obturation technique used. The techniques included Group 1: a polydimethylsiloxane-based sealer (GuttaFlow-2) with gutta-percha. Group 2: same as Group 1 except for using a pre-mixed Bioceramic-based sealer (NeoSEALER Flo). Group 3: the defect was filled entirely using the NeoSealer Flo Bioceramic-based sealer. Group 4: the samples were obturated using the warm vertical compaction technique with a resin-based sealer (ADSeal). The resin models were then scanned a micro-computed scanner to evaluate the percentage of voids in each group. RESULTS: The results showed that NeoSEALER Flo groups had significantly the highest volume of voids while GuttaFlow-2 and warm vertical compaction groups had the lowest void volume. CONCLUSIONS: GuttaFlow-2 and warm vertical compaction techniques performed best in filling the internal resorptive defect.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Endodontic mistakes, also known as procedural accidents, are those bad events that occur during treatment, some of which are attributable to a lack of attention to detail and others of which are completely unforeseeable. The second most frequent reason for root canal failure is perforation. Aims and Objective: The current in vitro study's objective was to assess the furcal perforation's potential to be sealed with and without internal matrix by MTA flow, Biodentine, and pro-root MTA. Materials and Methods: 60 samples were allocated into six groups at random (10 each). In intact permanent mandibular first and second teeth, furcal perforation sites were made and sealed with various materials. Following perforation sealing, the specimens' capacity for sealing was evaluated using the dye penetration method. Result: The current study's findings indicated that Group 2 has the least amount of microleakage and Group 5 has the most. Conclusion: Biodentine has excellent sealing capabilities and can be utilised to heal furcation perforations with or without internal matrix.

ABSTRACT

Aims and Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of the electronic actual length in detecting artificial perforations of the root canal in the presence of saline solution (NaCl, (Eczacibasi, Istanbul, Turkey), chlorhexidine [CHX (Werax, Tunadent, Izmir, Turkey)], QMix (Dentsply Tulsa, Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), and MTAD (Dentsply, Tulsa Dental, Tulsa, OK, USA). Materials and Methods: The root canals of 25 single-rooted extracted human teeth were perforated artificially in the middle section of the root. The actual lengths up to the perforation site were measured and then, the teeth were embedded in an alginate mold. Electronic measurements of the perforations were obtained by an electronic apex locator according to the manufacturers' recommendations under dry conditions and in the presence of NaCl, CHX, MTAD, and QMix using a #20 K-file. Each canal was irrigated with distilled water and then dried with paper points between the measurements. Statistical analyses were performed using the Friedman test and Spearman Rank correlation coefficient to assess the correlations between the measurement methods. Results: Highest correlation between the actual length and the electronic measurement was observed under dry conditions and NaCl solution (r: 0.932, r: 0.940 respectively), and the least correlation was observed with MTAD solution (r: 0.697) using statistical analysis. Moreover, the accuracy of the electronic apex locator with different irrigation solutions was statistically different from each other (P = 0.001). Conclusion: The most accurate electronic measurements of artificial perforation were obtained under dry conditions or with NaCl.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the clinical effect of apical barrier and perforation repair with mineral trioxide aggregate.Methods:Selected 23 samples from out-patients of the department of conservative dentistry of oral disease treatment center of 306 Hospital of PLA.Among them,7 samples were with unshaped root apical,6 samples were with lateral perforation from root canal internal absorption or root fracture,10 samples were iatrogenic lateral perforation.The course of the disease was 0.5-24 months.The images of dental films showed that there was shadow around the root or apical area in all the samples.All the samples received regular root canal treatment.Under root canal microscope,the open sites were sealed with MTA.After the barrier formed,filled the root canal with warm gutta-percha vertical compaction technique.Patients were ordered to re-check on 6 months and 12 months respectively.Results:1 sample dropped out.On 6 months visit,1 sample showed enlarged shadow at the apical area,20 samples showed shrinked shadow,1 sample showed no significant change.On 12 months visit,the shadow vanished in 9 samples;the shadow decreased in 5 samples,and there were 2 samples showed no significant changes.Conclusion:The treatment with MTA on apical barrier and perforation shows acceptable effect in short term observation.The use of microscope helps to enhance the accuracy and leak tightness of MTA filling.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the results of repairing furcation and root perforation using Mineral Trioxide Aggregate(MTA).Methods:Cases with furcation perforations were divided into two groups randomly,MTA and IRM(control group)methods were adopted in present study.Cases that had root perforations were treated with MTA.Pretreatment,immediate posttreatment,and 1year follow-up radiographs were evaluated in a double-blind manner to determine the presence or absence of any pathologic changes adjacent to the perforation site.Results:21 cases were involved.The healing rate of furcation perforation in MTA group was higher(80%)when compared with that in IRM group(75%).However,statistical analysis showed no significant difference in success rates between both groups(P=0.722).The healing rate of root perforation using MTA was 100%.Conclusion:MTA provides an effective seal of furcation /root perforations,and promises in improving the prognosis of perforated teeth.
