ABSTRACT

Objetivo: La Escala de Fatiga de Chalder (CFS) es una escala breve para evaluar fatiga que se utiliza en España, pero que no ha sido validada en su población. El objetivo del estudio fue adaptar y evaluar las propiedades psicométricas de la versión española de la CFS (Sp-CFS). Método: La muestra la conformaron 3,671 participantes (3.190 de la población general y 481 pacientes), con edades entre 18 y 86 años (M = 28.43; DT = 12.71), siendo el 67.6% mujeres. Las propiedades psicométricas de la escala se probaron en un diseño transversal utilizando validación cruzada (análisis factorial exploratorio y confirmatorio) y estimación de la invarianza (sexo y condición clínica). Resultados: Un modelo de cuatro factores (baja energía, problemas de sueño, problemas de concentración y disfunción cognitiva subjetiva) en lugar de un modelo original de dos factores (fatiga física y mental) proporcionó mejores índices de bondad de ajuste a los datos. La consistencia interna y la estabilidad de la escala fueron excelentes. Su validez convergente se apoyó en su asociación significativa con la ansiedad, la depresión, el estrés y los síntomas positivos y negativos del espectro de la psicosis. El instrumento no mostró diferencias significativas entre sexos ni condiciones clínicas, y discriminó entre la población general y los pacientes, obteniendo estos últimos puntajes significativamente mayores. Conclusiones: Sp-CFS es una escala fiable y válida para medir la fatiga en población general y clínica española.(AU)


Objective:The Chalder Fatigue Scale (CFS) is a brief self-report screening scale for fatigue that is used in Spain but has not been validated for the Spanish population. The aim of this study was to adapt and evalu-ate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the CFS (Sp-CFS). Method:The sample consisted of 3,671 participants (3,190 from the general population and 481 patients), aged 18 to 86 years (M=28.43; DT=12.71), 67.6% of whom were women. Psychometric properties of the scale were tested in a cross-sectional design using cross-validation (explora-tory and confirmatory factor analysis) and estimation of invariance (sex and clinical condition). Results:A four-factor model (low energy, sleep problems, concentration problems and subjective cognitive dysfunction) rather than an original two-factor model (physical and mental fatigue) pro-vided better indices of goodness of fit to the data. The internal consistencyand stability of the scale were excellent. Its convergent validity was sup-ported by its significant association with anxiety, depression, stress, and the positive and negative symptoms of the psychosis spectrum. The instru-ment did not show significant differences between sexes or clinical condi-tions, and it discriminated between the general population and the patients, with the latter obtaining significantly greater scores. Conclusions: Sp-CFS is a reliable and valid scale for measuring a transdiagnostic construct such as fatigue in Spanish general and clinical populations.(AU)

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether a Frailty Index based on laboratory tests (FI-lab) is associated with clinical outcomes independently of a standard nonlaboratory Frailty Index (FI-clinical) in older patients starting home-based medical care. DESIGN: Secondary analysis of data from a multicenter prospective cohort study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: Patients aged ≥65 years who were starting home-based medical care services provided by doctors and nurses at Nagoya, Japan. METHODS: We calculated FI-lab (proportion of abnormal results out of 25 commonly tested laboratory parameters) and FI-clinical using 42 items based on data obtained at enrollment. The primary outcome was mortality within 2 years after starting home-based medical care. A sensitivity analysis was also conducted with 1-year mortality as the outcome. Other outcomes included hospitalization and nursing home admission within 2 years. RESULTS: In total, 188 patients (mean age 79.9 ± 10.2 years, 57.5% male) were included. The median FI-lab was 0.40 [interquartile range (IQR) 0.29-0.50] and the median FI-clinical was 0.32 (IQR 0.24-0.43). Sixty-nine patients (36.7%) died within 2 years of starting home-based medical care. A Cox proportional hazards regression analysis including age, sex, FI-lab, and FI-clinical as independent variables revealed that FI-lab was associated with 2-year mortality independently of FI-clinical [FI-lab per 0.1 unit, odds ratio (OR) 1.49, 95% CI 1.25-1.77; FI-clinical per 0.1 unit, OR 1.13, 95% CI 0.90-1.41]. The sensitivity analysis showed similar results for 1-year mortality. Neither FI-lab nor FI-clinical was associated with hospitalization or nursing home admission within 2 years. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: FI-lab was associated with 2-year mortality in patients starting home-based medical care, independently of FI-clinical, and may be useful for risk assessment in this population. Studies with larger sample sizes are needed.

ABSTRACT

Methane, either as natural gas or as a resource obtained from various bioprocesses (e.g., digestion, landfill) can be converted to carbon and hydrogen according to. CH4(g)→C(s)+2H2(g)ΔH298K=74.8kJ/mol. Previous research has stressed the growing importance of substituting the high-temperature Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) by a moderate temperature Catalytic Methane Decomposition (CMD). The carbon formed is moreover of nanotube nature, in high industrial demand. To avoid the use of an inert support for the active catalyst species, e.g., Al2O3 for Fe, leading to a progressive contamination of the catalyst by support debris and coking of the catalyst, the present research investigates the use of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as Fe-support. Average CH4 conversions of 75-85% are obtained at 700 °C for a continuous operation of 40 h. The produced CNT from the methane conversion can be continuously removed from the catalyst bed by carry-over due to its bulk density difference (∼120 kg/m3) with the catalyst itself (∼1500 kg/m3). CNT properties are fully specified. No thermal regeneration of the catalyst is required. A tentative process layout and economic analysis demonstrate the scalability of the process and the very competitive production costs of H2 and CNT.

ABSTRACT

River water quality has been increasingly deteriorated because of the influence of natural process and anthropogenic activities. Quantifying the influence of landscape metrics, namely topography and land use pattern, which encompass land use composition and landscape configuration, across different spatial and seasonal scales that reflect natural process and anthropogenic activities, is highly beneficial for water quality protection. In this study, we focused on investigating the effects of topography, landscape configuration and land use composition on water quality at different spatial scales, including 1-km buffer and sub-watershed, and seasonal scales, including wet and dry season, based on the monthly water quality data in 2016 of Dongting Lake in China. Multivariate statistical analysis of redundancy analysis and partial redundancy analysis was used to quantify the contributions of these factors under different scales. Our results showed that among the three environmental groups, topography made the greatest pure contribution to water quality, accounting for 11.4 to 30.9% of the variation. This was followed by landscape configuration, which accounted for 9.4 to 23.0%, and land use composition, which accounted for 5.9 to 15.7%. More specifically, water body made the greatest contribution to the water quality variation during dry season at both spatial scales, contributing 16.6 to 17.2% of the variation. In contrast, edge density was the primary interpreter of the variability in water quality during wet season at both spatial scales, accounting for 9.9 to 11.1% of the variation. The spatial variability in the influence of landscape metrics on water quality was not markedly distinct. However, these metrics have a minimal impact difference on water quality at the buffer scale and the sub-watershed scale. Moreover, the contribution of landscape configuration varied the most from the buffer to sub-watershed scales, indicating its importance for the spatial scale difference in water quality. The findings of this study offer useful insights into enhancing water quality through improved handling of landscape metrics.

ABSTRACT

Retrosynthesis is vital in synthesizing target products, guiding reaction pathway design crucial for drug and material discovery. Current models often neglect multi-scale feature extraction, limiting efficacy in leveraging molecular descriptors. Our proposed SB-Net model, a deep-learning architecture tailored for retrosynthesis prediction, addresses this gap. SB-Net combines CNN and Bi-LSTM architectures, excelling in capturing multi-scale molecular features. It integrates parallel branches for processing one-hot encoded descriptors and ECFP, merging through dense layers. Experimental results demonstrate SB-Net's superiority, achieving 73.6 % top-1 and 94.6 % top-10 accuracy on USPTO-50k data. Versatility is validated on MetaNetX, with rates of 52.8 % top-1, 74.3 % top-3, 79.8 % top-5, and 83.5 % top-10. SB-Net's success in bioretrosynthesis prediction tasks indicates its efficacy. This research advances computational chemistry, offering a robust deep-learning model for retrosynthesis prediction. With implications for drug discovery and synthesis planning, SB-Net promises innovative and efficient pathways.

ABSTRACT

The positive impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on second language (L2) learning is well-documented. An individual's attitude toward AI significantly influences its adoption. Despite this, no specific scale has been designed to measure this attitude, particularly in the Chinese context. To address this gap, our study aims to construct the AI-Assisted L2 Learning Attitude Scale for Chinese College Students (AL2AS-CCS) and evaluate its reliability, validity, and relationship with L2 proficiency. Our research comprises two phases, each involving separate samples. In Phase One (Sample 1: n = 379), we conducted exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to determine the factor structure of the AL2AS-CCS. The resulting two-factor structure consists of 12 items, categorized into cognitive and behavioral components. In Phase Two (Sample 2: n = 429), we performed confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to validate the factor structure and assess model fit. CFA in Sample 2 confirmed the factor structure and demonstrated a good model fit. Additionally, the AL2AS-CCS exhibited high criterion validity, internal consistency, and cross-gender invariance. Our findings suggest that the AL2AS-CCS is a valid measurement tool for assessing Chinese college students' attitude toward AI-assisted L2 learning. Moreover, Chinese college students were discovered to maintain a moderately positive attitude toward AI-assisted L2 learning. Additionally, a positive correlation was identified between this attitude and their L2 proficiency.

BACKGROUND: Missing data is a common challenge in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, which can lead to biased and incomplete analyses. The integration of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data with metabolomics data has emerged as a promising approach to enhance the accuracy of data imputation in metabolomics studies. METHOD: In this study, we propose a novel method that leverages the information from WGS data and reference metabolites to impute unknown metabolites. Our approach utilizes a multi-scale variational autoencoder to jointly model the burden score, polygenetic risk score (PGS), and linkage disequilibrium (LD) pruned single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for feature extraction and missing metabolomics data imputation. By learning the latent representations of both omics data, our method can effectively impute missing metabolomics values based on genomic information. RESULTS: We evaluate the performance of our method on empirical metabolomics datasets with missing values and demonstrate its superiority compared to conventional imputation techniques. Using 35 template metabolites derived burden scores, PGS and LD-pruned SNPs, the proposed methods achieved R2-scores > 0.01 for 71.55 % of metabolites. CONCLUSION: The integration of WGS data in metabolomics imputation not only improves data completeness but also enhances downstream analyses, paving the way for more comprehensive and accurate investigations of metabolic pathways and disease associations. Our findings offer valuable insights into the potential benefits of utilizing WGS data for metabolomics data imputation and underscore the importance of leveraging multi-modal data integration in precision medicine research.

Arboreality has evolved in all major vertebrate lineages and is often associated with morphological adaptations and increased diversification concomitant with accessing novel niche space. In squamate reptiles, foot, claw, and tail morphology are well-studied adaptations shown to be associated with transitions to arboreality. Here, we examined a less well understood trait-the keeled scale-in relation to microhabitat, climate, and diversification dynamics across a diverse lizard radiation, Agamidae. We found that the ancestral agamid had keeled dorsal but not ventral scales; further, dorsal and ventral keels are evolutionarily decoupled. Ventral keeled scales evolved repeatedly in association with arboreality and may be advantageous in reducing wear or by promoting interlocking when climbing. We did not find an association between keeled scales and diversification, suggesting keels do not allow finer-scale microhabitat partitioning observed in other arboreal-associated traits. We additionally found a relationship between keeled ventral scales and precipitation in terrestrial species where we posit that the keels may function to reduce scale degradation. Our results suggest that keeled ventral scales facilitated transitions to arboreality across agamid lizards, and highlight a need for future studies that explore their biomechanical function in relation to microhabitat and climate.

Purpose: To systematically review existing literature regarding the ankle ligament reconstruction-return to sport after injury (ALR-RSI) scale and to assess its correlation with Return to sport and functional outcomes as well as feasibility, reliability and consistency. Methods: A systematic review of the literature based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses (PRISMA) was conducted using PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library. Studies that evaluated psychological readiness to return to sport after ankle ligament reconstruction or repair for the treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability using the ALR-RSI scale were included. The results from each study were pooled, and weighted means and overall rates were calculated. Results: In total, 157 patients (53.2% male, mean age: 34.2 years) from three articles were included. Overall, 85.0% of patients reported successful return to sport, but only 48.9% of patients returned to the preoperative sporting level. All studies reported a significant difference in psychological scores between patients who returned to sport and those who did not. Pooled mean patient-reported outcome measures, reported as the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Ankle-Hindfoot (AOFAS, three studies) Score and Karlsson-Peterson Score (three studies), were 82.7 (range: 29-100) and 81.7 (range: 25-100), respectively. The ALR-RSI scale demonstrated strong correlations with the AOFAS Score and Karlsson-Peterson Score. Conclusion: Patients who returned to sport after ankle ligament reconstruction or repair exhibited higher psychological readiness compared to those who did not. The ALR-RSI scale showed strong correlations with ankle function. Evaluation of psychological readiness using the ALR-RSI scale may provide an additional tool in the assessment of patients who underwent ankle ligament reconstruction or repair. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Stroke is the second cause of mortality and the foremost leading cause of disability globally. Many potential biomarkers have been described to contribute to prognosticating the severity in the acute phase of stroke as well as help with risk stratification. Copeptin, an inactive peptide that is produced in an equimolar ratio to arginine vasopressin and adequately mirrors an individual's stress response to acute illnesses like acute ischaemic stroke as evidenced by elevated or increasing levels is being explored in this study to determine its relationship with acute stroke severity and infarct size on admission. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study of 80 neuroimaging-confirmed acute ischaemic patients who presented within seven days of symptom onset and 80 control subjects. The ischaemic stroke cases had stroke severity and infarct volume determined on admission by the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and neuroimaging (brain CT/MRI). A baseline serum copeptin level was measured in the study subjects. Spearman correlation and Kruskal Wallis test were used to determine the relationship between serum copeptin level with admission NIHSS and infarct size respectively. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was calculated to determine the sensitivity and specificity of copeptin to predict severity and outcome. RESULTS: The mean age of the study group was 61.3 ± 12.7 years with 55.0% males and 45.0% females. The serum level of copeptin was significantly higher in the stroke cases with a median of 28.6 pmol/L (interquartile range (IQR)- 15.4-31.6 pmol/L) versus 8.8 pmol/L (IQR- 3.2- 10.7 pmol/L) among the stroke-free controls (p= 0.001) at a statistically significant level. There was a weak correlation between copeptin and NIHSS calculated at admission to measure stroke severity (r- 0.02, p= 0.873). Patients with infarct sizes in the fourth quartile (infarct sizes greater than 18.78 cm3) had higher copeptin levels, though this was not statistically significant (H= 2.88; p= 0.410). Admission serum copeptin did not show a statistically significant prognostic value in predicting stroke severity and mortality in stroke patients who presented within seven days of symptom onset with an area under curve (AUC) of 0.51 (95% CI: 0.36-0.65; p= 0.982). CONCLUSION: In this study, copeptin was higher among the stroke cases compared with the stroke-free controls which suggests a significant prognostic value in risk stratification in the acute phase of stroke; however, this did not significantly correlate with stroke severity and thus warrants further study in this field to elucidate it's fascinating potential as a prognostic biomarker (especially in the acute period) as this may enable allocation of a better-focused therapy for stroke patients.

Background: The relationship between English proficiency (EP), Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) is not well characterized. We aimed to understand the impact of limited English proficiency (LEP) on the evaluation and outcomes of TBI. Methods: Retrospective comparative study in a single institution of patients aged ⪰65 who presented to the emergency department after a fall with head strike between January 2018 and December 2021. TBI was defined as documented loss of consciousness or intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Relationships between EP, GCS, and TBI were analyzed with multivariable and propensity score-matched models. Results: Of the 2905 included, 1233 (42%) had LEP. Most LEP patients were Asian (60%) while the majority of EP patients were non-Hispanic Caucasians (72%). In a univariate analysis, LEP had higher incidence of decreased GCS and was strongly correlated with risk of TBI (OR 1.47, CI 1.26 to 1.71). After adjusting for multiple covariates including race, LEP did not have a significantly increased risk for GCS score <13 (OR 1.66, CI 0.99 to 2.76) or increased risk of TBI. In the matched analysis, LEP had a small but significantly higher risk of GCS score <13 (OR 1.03, CI 1.02 to 1.05) without an increased risk in TBI. Decreased GCS remained strongly correlated with presence of ICH in LEP patients in the adjusted model (OR 1.39, CI 1.30 to 1.50). Conclusions: LEP correlated with lower GCS in geriatric patients with TBI. This association weakened after adjusting for factors like race, suggesting racial disparities may have more influence than language differences. Moreover, GCS remained effective for predicting ICH in LEP individuals, highlighting its value with suitable translation resources. ABSTRACT

This study explores the influence of lexicality on gradient judgments of Swedish sibilant fricatives by contrasting ratings of initial fricatives in words and word fragments (initial CV-syllables). Visual-Analogue Scale (VAS) judgments were elicited from experienced listeners (speech-language pathologists; SLPs) and inexperienced listeners, and compared with respect to the effects of lexicality using Bayesian mixed-effects beta regression. Overall, SLPs had higher intra- and interrater reliability than inexperienced listeners. SLPs as a group also rated fricatives as more target-like, with higher precision, than did inexperienced listeners. An effect of lexicality was observed for all individual listeners, though the magnitude of the effect varied. Although SLP's ratings of Swedish children's initial voiceless fricatives were less influenced by lexicality, our results indicate that previous findings concerning VAS ratings of non-lexical CV-syllables cannot be directly transferred to the clinical context, without consideration of possible lexical bias.

Medical imaging techniques such as digital radiography and ultrasonography are non-invasive and provide precise results for examining internal organs and structures within fish. Their effectiveness can be further enhanced by using body parts like scales as markers for the organs beneath them. This study utilized the number of scales as landmarks in digital radiography and ultrasonography to non-invasively evaluate the muscles, bones, and images of internal and reproductive organs of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Digital radiography was performed in the dorsoventral and lateral views of the fish, whereas ultrasonography was conducted in longitudinal and transverse views on sequence scale numbers with brightness and colour Doppler-modes. Digital radiography of the common carp revealed the whole-body morphology, including the bony parts from the head, pectoral fins, dorsal fins, pelvic fins, anal fins, and vertebrae to the tail that appeared radiopaque. Internal organs were also observed, with the swim bladder and heart appeared radiolucent, while the intestines, liver, testes, and ovaries appeared radiopaque. Ultrasonography in brightness mode displayed the digestive organs, reproductive organs, and muscle thickness. Additionally, colour Doppler mode demonstrated blood flow within the heart's ventricle.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Frailty is a prevalent geriatric condition that significantly impacts the health of older adults. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of frailty among older Chinese adults aged ≥ 65 years and to assess its association with adverse geriatric outcomes. METHOD: This study included 20,724 older adults aged ≥ 65 years in Jiangsu Province, China, utilizing a random, stratified, multistage cluster sampling approach. Frailty was assessed using the 5-item FRAIL scale. Geriatric outcomes, such as independence in activities of daily living (ADL), cognitive impairment, and frequent fall events (occurring four or more times in the preceding year), were evaluated. Logistic regression models were employed to evaluate the association between frailty and geriatric outcomes, with results presented as odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 73.4 ± 6.4 years. The standardized prevalence of prefrailty and frailty was 35.2% and 10.3%, respectively. Individuals identified as prefrail or frail tended to live in rural areas, have lower educational levels, be widowed, have lower incomes, and engage in less physical activity. Prefrailty and frailty were associated with an increased risk of limitations in BADL (OR: 9.62, 95% CI: 7.43-12.46; and OR: 29.25, 95% CI: 22.42-38.17, respectively) and IADL (OR: 2.54, 95% CI 2.35-2.74; and OR: 5.19, 95% CI 4.66-5.78, respectively), positive cognitive impairment screening (OR: 1.23, 95% CI: 1.16-1.31; and OR: 1.72, 95% CI: 1.56-1.91, respectively), and frequent falls (occurring four or more times in the preceding year) (OR: 3.38, 95% CI: 2.50-4.56; and OR: 8.37, 95% CI: 6.01-11.65). The association between frailty and both limitations in BADL and falls was notably more pronounced among the younger age groups (p for interaction < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: According to the 5-item FRAIL scale, frailty was associated with limitations in BADLs and IADLs, positive cognitive impairment screening, and recent falls among older adults living in the community. Screening for frailty in younger age groups has the potential to prevent declines in physical function and falls.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common mental health condition that affects women in a silent and covert way and is not clearly visible to the community or to health care providers. Untreated PPD has significant and long-term consequences on the mother and their child. This study aims to assess the risk of postpartum depression among women in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and its determinants. METHOD: This is a questionnaire-based cross-sectional study conducted at primary healthcare centers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The target population is women visiting the well-child vaccination clinics for their infants' vaccination. The questionnaire used consisted of socio-demographic characteristics, important histories such as obstetric, medical, and social histories, and the Edinburgh Post Partum depression scale EPPS. EPPS is a validated tool used to evaluate the probability of postpartum depression. RESULTS: The probability of postpartum depression for women visiting the well child care clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi during the study period was 35%, One-third. 10% had high risk, 7% had moderate risk, and 18% had mild risk. Using logistic and linear regression, there was an association identified between postpartum depression risk and the presence of weight concern and employment status OR 5.499(2.618-11.548) and OR 0.483 (0.246-0.951), respectively (P < 0.005). From the total sample, 3.7% responded quite often or sometimes to the question of having the intention to harm themselves. CONCLUSION: EPDS is recommended to be used routinely to screen women in the postnatal period. This high prevalence of risk of postpartum depression in the UAE (One in three women) calls for a well-prepared healthcare system and community. Healthcare providers need to be prepared with better knowledge, practice, and management strategies to care for these women, for early identification and management. Further studies should be undertaken to achieve effective strategies to reduce the incidence of this condition.

The Baculovirus Expression Vector System (BEVS) has revolutionized the field of recombinant protein expression by enabling efficient and high yield production. The platform offers many advantages including manufacturing speed, flexible design, and scalability. In this chapter, we describe the methods including strategies and considerations to successfully optimize and scale-up using BEVS as a tool for production (Fig. 1). As an illustrative case study, we present an example focused on the production of a viral glycoprotein.

ABSTRACT

Restoring biodiversity-based resilience and ecosystem multi-functionality needs to be informed by more accurate predictions of animal biodiversity responses to environmental change. Ecological models make a substantial contribution to this understanding, especially when they encode the biological mechanisms and processes that give rise to emergent patterns (population, community, ecosystem properties and dynamics). Here, a distinction between 'mechanistic' and 'process-based' ecological models is established to review existing approaches. Mechanistic and process-based ecological models have made key advances to understanding the structure, function and dynamics of animal biodiversity, but are typically designed to account for specific levels of biological organisation and spatiotemporal scales. Cross-scale ecological models, which predict emergent co-occurring biodiversity patterns at interacting scales of space, time and biological organisation, is a critical next step in predictive ecology. A way forward is to first capitalise on existing models to systematically evaluate the ability of scale-explicit mechanisms and processes to predict emergent patterns at alternative scales. Such model intercomparisons will reveal mechanism to process transitions across fine to broad scales, overcome approach-specific barriers to model realism or tractability and identify gaps which necessitate the development of new fundamental principles. Key challenges surrounding model complexity and uncertainty would need to be addressed, and while opportunities from big data can streamline the integration of multiple scale-explicit biodiversity patterns, ambitious cross-scale field studies are also needed. Crucially, overcoming cross-scale ecological modelling challenges would unite disparate fields of ecology with the common goal of improving the evidence-base to safeguard biodiversity and ecosystems under novel environmental change.

ABSTRACT

Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is a clear example of cellular totipotency. The SE of the genus Coffea has become a model for in vitro propagation for woody species and for the large-scale production of disease-free plants that provide an advantage for modern agriculture. Temporary immersion systems (TIS) are in high demand for the propagation of plants. The success of this type of bioreactor is based on the alternating cycles of immersion of the plant material in the culture medium, usually a few minutes, and the permanence outside the medium of the tissues for several hours. Some bioreactors are very efficient for propagating one species but not another. The efficiency of bioreactors depends on the species, the tissue used to propagate, the species' nutritional needs, the amount of ethylene produced by the tissue, and many more. In this protocol, we show how we produce C. canephora plants that are being taken to the field.

BACKGROUND: Pressure ulcer (PU) are prevalent among critically ill trauma patients, posing substantial risks. Bundled care strategies and silver nanoparticle dressings offer potential solutions, yet their combined effectiveness and impact on patient satisfaction remain insufficiently investigated. AIM: To assess the impact of bundled care along with silver nanoparticle dressing on PUs management and family satisfaction in critically ill trauma patients. METHODS: A total of 98 critically ill trauma patients with PUs in intensive care unit (ICU) were included in this study. Patients were randomly assigned to either the control group (conventional care with silver nanoparticle dressing, n = 49) or the intervention group (bundled care with silver nanoparticle dressing, n = 49). The PU Scale for Healing (PUSH) tool was used to monitor changes in status of pressure injuries over time. Assessments were conducted at various time points: Baseline (day 0) and subsequent assessments on day 3, day 6, day 9, and day 12. Family satisfaction was assessed using the Family Satisfaction ICU 24 questionnaire. RESULTS: No significant differences in baseline characteristics were observed between the two groups. In the intervention group, there were significant reductions in total PUSH scores over the assessment period. Specifically, surface area, exudate, and tissue type parameters all showed significant improvements compared to the control group. Family satisfaction with care and decision-making was notably higher in the intervention group. Overall family satisfaction was significantly better in the intervention group. CONCLUSION: Bundled care in combination with silver nanoparticle dressings effectively alleviated PUs and enhances family satisfaction in critically ill trauma patients. This approach holds promise for improving PUs management in the ICU, benefiting both patients and their families.
