ABSTRACT

Metaverse sports arena is gaining popularity globally that empowers virtual reality sporting experience through digital avatars. The main objective of the current study is to explore the impact of the Metaverse-based virtual reality sporting experience on the endurance performance of young Chinese athletes, with the mediating role of their mental health condition and performance anxiety. The study's participants mainly included Chinese athletes, especially the sample group is an accurate depiction of young athletes using a convenience sampling approach. SEM-AMOS statistical software was used for the analysis and validation of the proposed relationships. The study findings statistically validate that mental health and performance anxiety fully mediate the direct associations between virtual reality sporting experiences and the endurance performance of young Chinese athletes. Interestingly, the mental health condition of the young Chinese athletes imposes a greater impact on their endurance performance, in contrast to the adverse effects of their performance anxiety. The outcomes of the present research guide young athletes on the opportunities to enhance their virtual reality sporting abilities and boost their endurance performance. Policymakers can also build systems to dissolve physical and geographical barriers, reduce performance anxiety, and sustain mental health in virtual reality sporting events through the metaverse.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This study aimed to develop a theoretical model of parental involvement in the sporting career among Rhythmic Gymnastics athletes and analyze the attributes that lead to sports self-realization. 15 former gymnasts and 20 parents answered a retrospective semi structured interview. Inductive analysis using idiographic profile was performed. Both parents have shown emotional and financial support, however, mothers tend to provide daily and ongoing support while fathers act more through financial and material support. Former athletes emphasized that physical, motor and psychological aspects contributed to achieving high performance. Family involvement and personal attributes of the athlete have been shown to be determinants of self-realization.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the technical and tactical performance of volleyball players and compare them according to their experience level in sport. Twenty-four teams finalists in the 2010 State Championship of Santa Catarina in categories under-15, under-16 and under-17 have participated in the study. The instruments used were a questionnaire to athletes to identify the level of sport experience and Technical-Tactical Evaluation Tool in Volleyball (IAD-VB) by Collet et al. (2011) to evaluate the technical-tactical actions. For data analysis we used descriptive statistics and multinomial logistic regression, in the SPSS software, adopting the significance level p <0.001. The results indicated that the category under-15 had no relationship between technical and tactical performance of players and experience in the sport, confirming the assumptions of a long-term sports development. The sports experience has favored the technical and tactical development of young volleyball players, especially in the categories under-16 and under-17.
