ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: To clarify does physical performance affect success in highest-level soccer, the purpose of the present study was to identify differences in technical-tactical performance (TP) between teams covering high and low running performance (RP) during the UEFA Champions League (UCL) matches. METHODS: The RP and TP data were collected from UCL group stage matches in the 2020/21 season. RP variables included total distance covered (TD), high intensity running (HIR), total distance when in ball possession (TDB), and high intensity running when in ball possession (HIRB). TP variables included goal chances, shots, shots on target, passes, accurate passes, key passes, key passes accurate, crosses, crosses accurate, counter attacks, counter attacks with a shot, high pressing, high pressing successful, low pressing, low pressing successful, tackles, tackles successful, entrances to the opponent's box, total actions, and successful actions. K-means cluster analysis method was used to classify teams covering (i) low and high TD, (ii) low and high HIR, (iii) low and high TDB, (iv) low and high and HIRB. Linear mixed models were used to identify differences in teams' TP according to their RP. Pearson's correlations were used to establish direct association between team TP and RP. RESULTS: Similar TP were observed whether teams covering high or low TD/HIR. Teams covering greater TDB/HIRB had more goal chances, shots, shots on target, passes, accurate passes, key passes, accurate key passes, crosses, successful high pressing, entrances to the opponent's box, total actions, and successful actions were observed (all moderate to very large effect sizes. Significant association between specific TP variables and TDB/HIRB were evidenced (Pearson's r = 0.35-0.96, all p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Covering greater TDB and HIRB may allow more frequent execution of fundamental TP which are considered essential for match success, indicating that RP when team has ball in possession is important determinant of success in highest-level soccer. This study shows that physical performance affect success in highest-level soccer.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Technical-tactical performance is essencial to victory in volleyball, so it is important to identify indicators associated with winning the set. Thus, the aim of this study was to identify and associate the technical-tactical coefficient of performance based on the result of the set in the school female volleyball. School athletes participated in the study (age between 12-14 years old). 27 match were analyzed, resulting in 57 sets, 7194 actions (serve= 2380, serve reception= 2157, set= 1358; and attack= 1299). Subsequently, the performance coefficient per action and set was calculated. Binary logistic regression was used to verify the association of the performance coefficients with victory of the set. The serve performance coefficient classified as "good" proved to be a major victory predictor set (OR= 29.46), followed by set classified as "good" (OR= 15.87), and attack classified as "good" (OR= 7.32). The serve is the major predictor in the present study, followed by serve and attack. These results suggest that serve should be prioritized in training, as it increases the chances of victory.

ABSTRACT

Observational methodology provides a rigorous yet flexible framework for capturing behaviors over time to allow for the performance of subsequent diachronic analyses of the data captured. Theme is a specialized software program that detects hidden temporal behavioral patterns (T-patterns) within data sets. It is increasingly being used to analyze performance in soccer and other sports. The aim of this study was to show how to select and interpret T-patterns generated by the application of three "quantitative" sort options in Theme and three "qualitative" filters established by the researchers. These will be used to investigate whether 7-a-side (F7) or 8-a-side (F8) soccer is best suited to the learning and skills development needs of 7- and 8-year-old male soccer players. The information contained in the T-patterns generated allowed us to characterize patterns of play in children in this age group. For both formats, we detected technical-tactical behaviors showing that children of this age have difficulty with first-touch actions and controlling the ball after a throw-in. We also found that ball control followed by a pass or a shot at the goal are common in the central corridor of the pitch. Further, depth of play is achieved by ball control, followed by dribbling and a pass or shot. In F8, we saw that depth of play was achieved through ball control, followed by dribbling and passing of one or more opponents leading to a pass or shot. However, in F7, we saw that players succeeded in advancing from their goal area to the rival goal area through a sequence of actions.

ABSTRACT

This almost experimental paper aimed to verify the impact of the methodologies used by the coaches on the individual technical-tactical performance of the soccer players from the sub-13 and sub-15 categories. 34 futsal players from 2 clubs of Santa Catarina who belonged to 2 teams from the sub-13 category and 2 teams from the sub-15 category made part of the research. To analyze the impact of the methodologies used by the coaches on the individual technical-tactical performance of the players, were necessary initially 24 sessions of practice from each team in each category with 12 sessions in the preparatory period and 12 in the competitive period. In the performance evaluation was applied in games from the beginning and end of the sports season, the instrument for assessing the performance of individual technical and tactical futsal (SAAD, 2012). To compare the development between the beginning and the end of the sports season, it was used the paired t test and to compare the development of different teams from the same category, it was used the t test for independent samples. Data were statistically analyzed by the program SPSS for Windows, version 17.0 with a significance level of 5%. As a result, when analyzing the training volume spent by the teams it seems that the “improvement of the technical gesture”, the “functional structures” and “formal game” regardless of the training period are the activities most used by the coaches from the sub-13 and sub-15 categories. When evaluated the performances of the player in both categories the variables presented significant differences (p≤0,05), showing a technical-tactical evolution of all the players from the studied teams. We conclude that the teams which spent more time in technical-tactical activities, obtained the best performance in both sub-13 and sub-15 categories.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the technical and tactical performance of volleyball players and compare them according to their experience level in sport. Twenty-four teams finalists in the 2010 State Championship of Santa Catarina in categories under-15, under-16 and under-17 have participated in the study. The instruments used were a questionnaire to athletes to identify the level of sport experience and Technical-Tactical Evaluation Tool in Volleyball (IAD-VB) by Collet et al. (2011) to evaluate the technical-tactical actions. For data analysis we used descriptive statistics and multinomial logistic regression, in the SPSS software, adopting the significance level p <0.001. The results indicated that the category under-15 had no relationship between technical and tactical performance of players and experience in the sport, confirming the assumptions of a long-term sports development. The sports experience has favored the technical and tactical development of young volleyball players, especially in the categories under-16 and under-17.
