ABSTRACT

An attempt is made to encircle time and the times psychoanalytically. They are understood as the result of the interplay of different psychic systems: Timelessness of the Ucs system (psychic reality), actual time in the Pcpt-Cs (perceptual reality), and vectorial-linear time in the Cs/Pcs systems (reality principle). Time shows itself in the moment of presence, but it can only show itself if there is a temporal antecedent. At the same time, time and space are intertwined, so that the past is initially the place where something happened. However, the interplay of the mental systems with time and space can only develop in the object relationship. A short clinical example of an autistoid perversion illustrates this dynamic.

ABSTRACT

Oral history collections both rely on and preserve community memories, and are of importance for understanding marginalized communities, particularly when they privilege minority voices. This article draws from original, video-based oral histories conducted for the United Kingdom's national LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and others) museum, Queer Britain, focusing on an ongoing collection of oral histories organized around experiences related to the COVID pandemic. In order to protect the health of those interviewed and the interviewers, the researchers used virtual meeting software to record video interviews and utilized qualitative software to expand and support interview analysis. Specific oral history methodologies and concepts are explored, and museum studies content is briefly discussed, specifically as it relates to museums of marginalized people. Themes explored include isolation and timelessness, the impact of the pandemic on diverse LGBTQ+ communities, and HIV/AIDS.

ABSTRACT

Time is one of the undisputed foundations of our life in the real world. Here it is argued that inside small isolated quantum systems, time does not pass as we are used to, and it is primarily in this sense that quantum objects enjoy only limited reality. Quantum systems, which we know, are embedded in the everyday classical world. Their preparation as well as their measurement-phases leave durable records and traces in the entropy of the environment. The Landauer Principle then gives a quantitative threshold for irreversibility. With double slit experiments and tunneling as paradigmatic examples, it is proposed that a label of timelessness offers clues for rendering a Copenhagen-type interpretation of quantum physics more "realistic" and acceptable by providing a coarse but viable link from the fundamental quantum realm to the classical world which humans directly experience.

ABSTRACT

In this article, the author wonders about time. His study starts from alchemy in Middle Ages, it continues through philosophy, physics, neurobiology, and it finally reaches psychoanalysis and the current times. Throughout his examination, the author connects concepts. The unconscious is timeless, he concludes. The author shows the importance of this timelessness to transferential phenomena by bringing a clinical vignette.

ABSTRACT

Empirical findings in the Cognitive Sciences on the relationship between feeling states and subjective time have led to the assumption that time perception entails emotional and interoceptive states. The perception of time would thereafter be embodied; the bodily self, the continuous input from the body is the functional anchor of phenomenal experience and the mental self. Subjective time emerges through the existence of the self across time as an enduring and embodied entity. This relation is prominently disclosed in studies on altered states of consciousness such as in meditative states, under the influence of hallucinogens as well as in many psychiatric and neurological conditions. An increased awareness of oneself coincides with an increased awareness of time. Conversely, a decreased awareness of the self is associated with diminished awareness of time. The body of empirical work within different conceptual frameworks on the intricate relationship between self and time is presented and discussed.

ABSTRACT

Based on experiences elaborated in personal analysis,in clinical practice, and in the study of classical and contemporary authors, we discussed the importance of valuing the classical model of psychoanalytic training, taking into consideration the complexity of demands of the unconscious and the traumatic in its various manifestations throughout the history of psychoanalysis and in contemporaneity, emphasizing the similarities between the notion of contemporaneity conceived by the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben and psychoanalytic concepts of time.(AU)

ABSTRACT

During a month they both covered the 776 km between Paris and Marseilles - what could be done in one day alone – observing and describing, taking pictures and drawing what they saw and felt, with humor and sensibility. The author draws a parallel between the journey and the analytic process, which needs its own time and intimacy to succeed...

ABSTRACT

The present work intend to find similar points between psychoanalysis and modern physics – far from reduce psychism to laws that rule the concret world, seek to enlarge the notion that our internal and external universes are connected. The specificity to be studied is the time, specially the unconscious time: absolutely relative. So, the difference between the conscious and unconscious timeness seems to look like the physical time variation, what let us think an existence of simultaneous times in our mind.(AU)
