ABSTRACT

Synthesis of fully fused π-conjugated cycloarenes embedded nonbenzenoid aromatics is challenging. In this work, the first example of four-membered ring-embedded cycloarene (MF2) was designed and synthesized in single-crystal form by macrocyclization and ring fusion strategies. For comparison, single bond-linked chiral macrocycle MS2 without two fused four-membered rings and its linear-shaped polycyclic benzenoid monomer L1 were also synthesized. The pronounced anti-aromaticity of four-membered rings significantly adjusts the electronic structures and photophysical properties of cycloarene, resulting in an enhancement of the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) from 10.66% and 10.74% for L1 and MS2, respectively, to 54.05% for MF2, which is the highest PLQY among the reported cycloarenes. Notably, owing to the embedded four-membered rings that reduce structural displacements, MF2 exhibits an ultra-narrowband emission with a single-digit full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of only 7 nm (0.038 eV), which sets a new record among all reported organic narrowband luminescent molecules, and represents the first example of ultra-narrowband emission in conventional polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) devoid of heteroatoms.

ABSTRACT

Phylogenomic approaches have recently helped elucidate various insect relationships, but large-scale comprehensive analyses on relationships within sawflies and woodwasps are still lacking. Here, we infer the relationships and long-term biogeographic history of these hymenopteran groups using a large dataset of 354 UCE loci collected from 385 species that represent all major lineages. Early Hymenoptera started diversifying during the Early Triassic âˆ¼249 Ma and spread all over the ancient supercontinent Pangaea. We recovered Xyeloidea as a monophyletic sister group to other Hymenoptera and Pamphilioidea as sister to Unicalcarida. Within the diverse family Tenthredinidae, our taxonomically and geographically expanded taxon sampling highlights the non-monophyly of several traditionally defined subfamilies. In addition, the recent removal of Athalia and related genera from the Tenthredinidae into the separate family Athaliidae is supported. The deep historical biogeography of the group is characterised by independent dispersals and re-colonisations between the northern (Laurasia) and southern (Gondwana) palaeocontinents. The breakup of these landmasses led to ancient vicariance in several Gondwanan lineages, while interchange across the Northern Hemisphere has continued until the Recent. The little-studied African sawfly fauna is likewise a diverse mixture of groups with varying routes of colonization. Our results reveal interesting parallels in the evolution and biogeography of early hymenopterans and other ancient insect groups.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Frequent consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) during pregnancy is linked to excess intake of added sugar, fat, and sodium and inadequacy of several micronutrients. Diet quality during pregnancy should be maximized as inadequate levels of key nutrients and excessive intake of energy and added sugar might influence mother-child health. We aimed to estimate the contribution (% of total calories) of ultra-processed products to the total energy intake by pre-gestational body mass index (BMI) categories and Hb status during pregnancy in participants from the MAS-Lactancia Cohort. Methods: Pre-gestational weight, hemoglobin levels, 24-h dietary intake recall interviews, and sociodemographic data were collected during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Reported consumed foods were categorized using the NOVA classification, and the contribution of calories from each NOVA category was estimated using the Mexican Food Database. We estimated medians and interquartile ranges (p25 and p75) for dietary intake and energy contributions. The comparison of intake between the second and third trimesters was done using the Wilcoxon test. In addition, a quantile regression model with an interaction between pre-gestational BMI and Hb levels status in tertiles over the percentage of energy from UPFs was adjusted by age and socioeconomic status. Results: The contribution to total energy intake from UPFs was 27.4% in the second trimester and 27% in the third trimester (with no statistical difference). The percentage of energy intake from UPFs was higher in women who started pregnancy with obesity and presented the lowest levels of Hb (1st tertile), 23.1, 35.8, and 44.7% for the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles, respectively, compared to those with normal BMI and the highest tertile of Hb levels: 18, 29.0, and 38.6% for the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles, respectively. Conclusion: In conclusion, UPF intake in pregnant women is similar to the general population and was higher for those with pre-gestational obesity and the lowest tertile of Hb levels. UPF contributes also to sugar, saturated fat, and sodium, which may adversely affect the health of mothers and their offspring.

ABSTRACT

In this article, a dual-mode, dual-polarized antenna designed using characteristic mode analysis (CMA) is described. An elliptical-shaped patch radiator is chosen with double slits on its minor axis. This design is based on mode separation from the circular patch into the elliptical patch. The suggested antenna geometry has a footprint of 60 mm × 60 mm × 1.6 mm. To design and fabricate the antenna, an FR-4 substrate with a relative permittivity of 4.3 is used, along with copper sheets 0.035 mm thick for the ground plane and the radiating plane. The circular patch has the resonating mode at 1.8 GHz, whereas the elliptical radiator gives different resonant modes at 1.8 GHz and 3.5 GHz. An orthogonal mode is excited with a 50-Ω coaxial feed line at 3.5 GHz by applying a full-wave approach. The antenna gives a -10dB bandwidth of 51 MHz (1.77-1.82 GHz) centered at 1.8 GHz and a bandwidth of 210 MHz (3.37-3.58 GHz) centered at 3.5 GHz. The working principle is explained through modal analysis and characteristic angles. This dual-band antenna covers a 1.8 GHz GSM band with horizontal polarization and a 3.5 GHz 5G service with vertical polarization. Peak gain attained with these bands is 5.9 dBi and 7.1 dBi, respectively. A CST full-wave simulator is used for the simulations. As a result of the antenna, radiation is stable and enhanced. Compared to measured results, simulation results are close to reality. The characteristic mode analysis (CMA) provides an in-depth look into different operating modes on the antenna in contrast with the conventional method, which relies on the simulated current distribution to verify functionality.

Diagnosis of intracranial tuberculoma remains a challenge due to its rarity, non-specific clinical presentation, and radiological findings. Herein, we describe a case of intracranial tuberculomas in a male diabetic patient who presented headache and vomiting on admission. Neuroimaging findings indicated multiple ring contrast-enhanced lesions with extensive perilesional edema. However, a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination was normal. When a biopsy of brain lesions was performed, pathological characteristics of tuberculosis were absent and acid-fast staining was negative. A tuberculosis diagnosis was subsequently obtained from an Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra assay of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded brain tissue. The patient was treated with an optimized anti-tuberculosis regimen which included high-dose intravenous administration of rifampicin and isoniazid, and oral administration of linezolid. The patient recovered well and exhibited marked clinical improvement. This case report demonstrates that when CSF analysis does not indicate the presence of intracranial tuberculomas, analysis of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded brain tissue specimens with the Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra assay may be able to confirm a diagnosis. Furthermore, a high dose of rifampicin and isoniazid plus linezolid may improve patient outcome.

ABSTRACT

This paper explores the exceptional intercultural encounter between secular therapists and Ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel, focusing on two key aspects. Firstly, it explores the distinctive attributes and conflicts inherent in treating Ultra-Orthodox individuals. On the one hand is the secular Israeli therapist, whose base is in Western philosophy that prioritizes individuality, cultural diversity, and tolerance of differences. On the other hand is the Haredi client, entrenched in values from Jewish tradition and religious principles that amplify solidarity and collectivism while rejecting prevalent secular culture. The existing socio-political climate in Israel often positions these two as potentially conflicting cultures. Secondly, the paper seeks to illuminate the uncommon dynamics of the minority-majority power balance within the therapeutic relationship. In contrast to prevalent literature in intercultural therapy, which typically frames the client as a representative of a disadvantaged minority and the therapist as a representative of a dominant majority, this article aims to unravel a nuanced power balance, where those in the minority perceive the dominant culture both as a threat to its way of life and as a despised entity, but paradoxically rely entirely on its financial support. This reveals a complex and intricate interplay of dominance and dependence, shaping a therapeutic relationship that defies conventional expectations.

Purpose: Demodex infestation is a risk factor for several ocular surface diseases. However, the prevalence of ocular Demodex infection in the ultra-high altitude population is not clear. This study aimed to compare the prevalence and factors associated with Demodex in populations residing in ultra-high altitude region and sea level areas. Methods: Consecutive patients who visited Shigatse People's Hospital (> 4,000 m) and Shanghai Tongren Hospital (sea level) for eye complaints between January 2023 and January 2024 were included. Subjects were divided into ultra-high altitude and sea level groups. All subjects underwent eyelash epilation for ocular Demodex identification and counting. Demographic and lifestyle information was also collected. Results: A total of 517 subjects were eligible, including 255 subjects in the ultra-high-altitude group and 262 subjects in the sea level group. In the overall analysis, the prevalence of ocular Demodex infection was significantly different between the ultra-high-altitude and sea level groups (15.7% vs. 33.2%, P < 0.001). Multiple logistic regression showed that age, time spent outdoors, and makeup were associated with ocular Demodex infection in both groups. In addition, in the ultra-high-altitude group, people who wear sun hats outdoors were more likely to be infected with Demodex. Conclusion: The infection rate of ocular Demodex in the residents of ultra-high altitude area was significantly lower than that in the residents of sea level area, which may be related to lower ambient temperature, lower humidity, and higher solar radiation. Additionally, age, time spent outdoors, and makeup may be associated with ocular Demodex infection.

Interest is increasing in the use of different liquid chromatography techniques coupled online to mass spectrometry for the quantification of platinum anticancer drugs in human plasma to inform cancer chemotherapy. We developed, validated and studied the application of a method for quantification of intact oxaliplatin in human plasma using ultra high performance liquid chromatography hyphenated to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (UHPLC-ICP-MS). Plasma samples were processed instantly after collection from patients to preserve oxaliplatin speciation by methanol-deproteinization, and storage of diluted supernatants (plasma:methanol 1:2 v/v) at -80 °C. UHPLC separation of intact oxaliplatin and internal standard (carboplatin) was achieved using a C18 column and linear gradient mobile phase (Mobile phase A: water-methanol (97:3 v/v), 0.075 mM sodium dodecyl sulfate, 9.79 nM thallium adjusted to pH 2.5 with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid; Mobile phase B: 100 % methanol (v/v)) with ICP-MS detection to monitor platinum and thallium at m/z 195 and 205, respectively. The limit of quantification was 50 nM in methanol-deproteinized diluted plasma (1:2 v/v). Linearity was established for calibration standards ranging from 50 to 500 nM made in methanol-deproteinized diluted plasma (1:2 v/v), and for dilution of higher concentration samples in blank matrix containing internal standard (final dilution 1:29 v/v). Intra-day and inter-day accuracy ranged from 96.8 to 103 % of nominal concentration and precision from 0.62 to 2.49 % coefficient of variation. Recovery was complete and a matrix effect confirmed the requirement for matrix-matched standards. Intact oxaliplatin was stable during storage for at least 473 days, and during analysis, in methanol-deproteinized diluted plasma (1:2 v/v). The method was applied to determining the plasma concentrations of intact oxaliplatin in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy, and studies of oxaliplatin degradation in vitro. This improved method based on UHPLC-ICP-MS will allow more specific, efficient and reliable quantification of intact oxaliplatin in human plasma.

Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (CRP) is used as common health-care food and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which exerts pharmacological effects, such as anti-cardiovascular, anti-tumor, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-virus, hepatoprotective, blood pressure-lowering and neuroprotective. In this study, reliable, and sensitive ultra-high performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) methods were developed and validated for the determination of eleven active components in rat plasma after oral administration of the CRP extract. The results of this method exhibited that the specificity, linearity (r > 0.999), precision and accuracy (the coefficient of variation (CV) < 11.5 %), recovery (52.9-107.9 %), matrix effects (63.8-107.5 %), and stability (CV < 10.8 %) met all requirements for the quantitation of plasma samples. The pharmacokinetic results showed that the Tmax of flavone glycosides was less than 0.7 h, and that of polymethoxyflavones and volatile components were within 1-7 h. Meanwhile, the area-under-the-curve (AUC) and concentration maximum (Cmax) of hesperidin, nobiletin, tangeretin, and D-limonene were higher than those of the other components, suggesting that the plasma exposure levels of these constituents were higher in CRP. The present research lays a foundation for elucidating the therapeutic material basis and provides a reference for further scientific research and clinical application of CRP.

ABSTRACT

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is an exceptionally rare genetic disorder, representing humans' most debilitating form of extraskeletal ossification. It is characterized by progressive postnatal heterotopic ossification of connective tissue and malformations of the big toes. In FOP, ectopic ossification usually begins in the upper paraspinal muscles and then spreads from axial to appendicular regions, cranial to caudal directions, and proximal to distal sites. The mean life expectancy for these patients is typically 40-50 years. Most patients need partial or complete assistance with walking by age 30, and common causes of death include thoracic insufficiency syndrome and pneumonia. We present the case of a patient with an advanced stage of FOP, highlighting its complex and progressive nature. The patient exhibits severe impairment of jaw mobility, swallowing difficulties, speech impediments, and hearing impairment. Additionally, severe kyphoscoliosis, heterotopic ossification of intercostal and paravertebral muscles, and ankylosis of the spine and all major joints of the upper and lower extremities, except the metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints, are evident. We discuss disease presentation, current management options, and rehabilitation challenges. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of this rare disease from our country.

High-saturated fat (HF) or high-fructose (HFr) consumption in children predispose them to metabolic syndrome (MetS). In rodent models of MetS, diets containing individually HF or HFr lead to a variable degree of MetS. Nevertheless, simultaneous intake of HF plus HFr have synergistic effects, worsening MetS outcomes. In children, the effects of HF or HFr intake usually have been addressed individually. Therefore, we have reviewed the outcomes of HF or HFr diets in children, and we compare them with the effects reported in rodents. In humans, HFr intake causes increased lipogenesis, hypertriglyceridemia, obesity and insulin resistance. On the other hand, HF diets promote low grade-inflammation, obesity, insulin resistance. Despite the deleterious effects of simultaneous HF plus HFr intake on MetS development in rodents, there is little information about the combined effects of HF plus HFr intake in children. The aim of this review is to warn about this issue, as individually addressing the effects produced by HF or HFr may underestimate the severity of the outcomes of Western diet intake in the pediatric population. We consider that this is an alarming issue that needs to be assessed, as the simultaneous intake of HF plus HFr is common on fast food menus.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is both a common endocrine syndrome and a metabolic disorder that results in harm to the reproductive system and whole-body metabolism. This study aimed to investigate differences in the serum metabolic profiles of patients with PCOS compared with healthy controls, in addition to investigating the effects of compound oral contraceptive (COC) treatment in patients with PCOS. Materials and methods: 50 patients with PCOS and 50 sex-matched healthy controls were recruited. Patients with PCOS received three cycles of self-administered COC treatment. Clinical characteristics were recorded, and the laboratory biochemical data were detected. We utilized ultra-performance liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry to study the serum metabolic changes between patients with PCOS, patients with PCOS following COC treatment, and healthy controls. Result: Patients with PCOS who received COC treatment showed significant improvements in serum sex hormone levels, a reduction in luteinising hormone levels, and a significant reduction in the levels of biologically active free testosterone in the blood. Differential metabolite correlation analysis revealed differences between PCOS and healthy control groups in N-tetradecanamide, hexadecanamide, 10E,12Z-octadecadienoic acid, and 13-HOTrE(r); after 3 months of COC treatment, there were significant differences in benzoic acid, organic acid, and phenolamides. Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to analyse blood serum in each group, the characteristic changes in PCOS were metabolic disorders of amino acids, carbohydrates, and purines, with significant changes in the levels of total cholesterol, uric acid, phenylalanine, aspartic acid, and glutamate. Conclusion: Following COC treatment, improvements in sex hormone levels, endocrine factor levels, and metabolic levels were better than in the group of PCOS patients receiving no COC treatment, indicating that COC treatment for PCOS could effectively regulate the levels of sex hormones, endocrine factors, and serum metabolic profiles.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study investigated the potential of a commercially available plastic scintillator, the Exradin W2, as a real-time dosimeter for ultra-high-dose-rate (UHDR) electron beams. This work aimed to characterize this system's performance under UHDR conditions and addressed limitations inherent to other conventional dosimetry systems. METHODS AND MATERIALS: We assessed the W2's performance as a UHDR electron dosimeter using a 16 MeV UHDR electron beam from the FLASH research extension (FLEX) system. Additionally, the vendor provided a beta firmware upgrade to better handle the processing of the high signal generated in the UHDR environment. We evaluated the W2 regarding dose-per-pulse, pulse repetition rate, charge versus distance, and pulse linearity. Absorbed dose measurements were compared against those from a plane-parallel ionization chamber, optically stimulated luminescent dosimeters and radiochromic film. RESULTS: We observed that the 1 × 1 mm W2 scintillator with the MAX SD was more suitable for UHDR dosimetry compared to the 1 × 3 mm W2 scintillator, capable of matching film measurements within 2% accuracy for dose-per-pulse up to 3.6 Gy/pulse. The W2 accurately ascertained the inverse square relationship regarding charge versus virtual source distance with R2 of ∼1.00 for all channels. Pulse linearity was accurately measured with the W2, demonstrating a proportional response to the delivered pulse number. There was no discernible impact on the measured charge of the W2 when switching between the available repetition rates of the FLEX system (18-180 pulses/s), solidifying consistent beam output across pulse frequencies. CONCLUSIONS: This study tested a commercial plastic scintillator detector in a UHDR electron beam, paving the way for its potential use as a real-time, patient-specific dosimetry tool for future FLASH radiotherapy treatments. Further research is warranted to test and improve the signal processing of the W2 dosimetry system to accurately measure in UHDR environments using exceedingly high dose-per-pulse and pulse numbers.

The aim of this study was to synthesize effective and economical MoS2/CdNi@rGO photocatalysts and investigate their performance in the degradation of organic pollutants in synthetic effluent. The objective was to assess the characterization results of the synthesized photocatalysts using XRD, SEM/EDS, TEM/HR-TEM, Raman spectrum, and BET isotherm analysis tools. These analyses revealed the good adhesion of MoS2 with rGO and provided insights into the structure and properties of the materials. The results showed that the MoS2/CdNi@rGO photocatalysts exhibited remarkable degradation efficiency for organic pollutants such as Rhodamine-B, erichrome black, and malachite green. The outcomes of the study demonstrated that the MoS2/CdNi@rGO catalyst had the greatest rate constant for Rhodamine-B (RhB) decomposition. which would have been approximately 33 times higher than that of pure RGO (0.0121 min-1). The MoS2/CdNi@rGO photocatalysts also showed excellent recyclability and persistence across five recycle assays, indicating their potential for practical applications in wastewater treatment. The photocatalyst was moderately active, stable up to its fifth usage and stability of the photocatalyst before and after the photocatalytic reaction was also been studied using XRD and SEM. Further research in this area could lead to the development of advanced photocatalytic technologies for environmental remediation.

ABSTRACT

Chiral inversions of enantiomers have significantly different biological activities, so it is important to develop simple and effective methods to efficiently identify optically pure compounds. Inspired by enzyme catalysis, the construction of chiral microenvironments resembling enzyme pockets in the pore space structure of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to achieve asymmetric enantioselective recognition and catalysis has become a new research hotspot. Here, a super-stable porphyrin-containing material PCN-224 is constructed by solvothermal method and a chiral microenvironment around the existing catalytic site of the material is created by post-synthesis modifications of the histidine (His) enantiomers. Experimental and theoretical calculations results show that the modulation of chiral ligands around Zr oxide clusters produces different spatial site resistances, which can greatly affect the adsorption and catalytic level of the enantiomeric molecules of tryptophan guests, resulting in a good enantioselective property of the material. It provides new ideas and possibilities for future chiral recognition and asymmetric catalysis.

Cas12a (Cpf1), a Class 2 Type V CRISPR/Cas nuclease, has several unique attributes for genome editing and may provide a valuable alternative to Cas9. However, a low editing efficiency due to temperature sensitivity and insufficient cleavage activity of the Cas12a nuclease are major obstacles to its broad application. In this report, we generated two variants, ttAsCas12 Ultra and ttLbCas12a Ultra harboring three (E174R, M537R, and F870L) or two (D156R and E795L) mutations, respectively, by combining the mutations from the temperature-tolerant variants ttAsCas12a (E174R) and ttLbCas12a (D156R), and those from the highly active variants AsCas12a Ultra (M537R and F870L) and LbCas12a Ultra (E795L). We compared editing efficiencies of the five resulting Cas12a variants (LbCas12a, ttLbCas12a, ttLbCas12a Ultra, AsCas12a Ultra, and ttAsCas12 Ultra) at six target sites of four genes in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). The variant ttLbCas12a Ultra, harboring the D156R and E795L mutations, exhibited the highest editing efficiency of all variants tested in Arabidopsis and can be used to generate homozygous or biallelic mutants in a single generation in Arabidopsis plants grown at 22 °C. In addition, optimization of ttLbCas12a Ultra, by varying nuclear localization signal sequences and codon usage, further greatly improved editing efficiency. Collectively, our results indicate that ttLbCas12a Ultra is a valuable alternative to Cas9 for editing genes or promoters in Arabidopsis. ABSTRACT

Objective: To assess the safety and tolerability of ultra-low dose estradiol and dydrogesterone (E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg) among postmenopausal women. Methods: This pooled analysis of data from three clinical studies assessed the effects of continuous combined ultra-low-dose estradiol and dydrogesterone among postmenopausal women. Participants received E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg or placebo for 13 weeks (double-blind, randomized, European study), E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg or placebo for 12 weeks (double-blind, randomized, Chinese study), or E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg for 52 weeks (open-label, European study). Safety outcomes included treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs), treatment-emergent serious adverse events (TESAEs), treatment discontinuation due to a TEAE, and adverse events of special interest (AESIs). Results: Overall, 1027 women were included in the pooled analysis (E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg, n = 736; placebo, n = 291). Mean treatment exposure was 288.9 days in the E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg group and 86.6 days in the placebo group. The proportion of women experiencing ≥1 TEAE was similar in the E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg and placebo groups (50.1% vs 49.5%, respectively). TESAEs occurred in 12 (1.6%) women receiving E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg and 9 (3.1%) women receiving placebo. Discontinuation of study treatment was infrequent in both groups (E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg: 1.5%; placebo: 2.4%). The occurrence of breast pain was more common in the E0.5 mg/D2.5 mg group than in the placebo group (2.0% vs 0.3%) as was uterine hemorrhage (6.5% vs 2.4%). The incidence of acne, hypertrichoses and weight increased was similar between groups. Conclusions: Across three studies, ultra-low-dose estradiol plus dydrogesterone was well tolerated among postmenopausal women, with no increase in TEAEs or TESAEs compared with placebo.

ABSTRACT

Only microstructures are used to improve the sensitivity of iontronic pressure sensors. By modulating the compressive modulus, a breakthrough in the sensitivity of the iontronic pressure sensor is achieved. Furthermore, it allows for programmatic tailoring of sensor performance according to the requirements of different applications. Such a new strategy pushes the sensitivity up to a record-high of 25 548.24 kPa-1 and expands the linear pressure range from 15 to 127 kPa. Additionally, the sensor demonstrates excellent mechanical stability over 10 000 compression-release cycles. Based on this, a well-controlled robotic hand that precisely tracks the pressure behavior inside a balloon to autonomously regulate the gripping angle is developed. This paves the way for the application of iontronic pressure sensors in precise sensing scenarios.

ABSTRACT

As stewards of public and environmental health, mosquito control agencies are rightfully concerned about impacts on nontarget organisms. This study examined the impact of a modern, pyrethroid based ground adulticide program using ultra-low volume applications in a metropolitan county in central Florida. Nontarget insects and mosquitoes were collected in a before-after control-impact design at 21 sites over 1.5 years. While mosquitoes were reduced, we found no evidence for reduction of nontarget insects, regardless of taxon. Night-flying Lepidoptera may experience greater risk than other nontarget taxa, but overall effects of adulticide missions on this group were low and inconsistent. Instead, meteorology, habitat, and phenology dominate patterns of nontarget abundance. Mosquito reduction was more clearly observed and corrected post-mission reduction was consistent with results expected in complex urban and suburban treatment zones.
