ABSTRACT

Riboflavin transporter deficiency (RTD) is a genetic disorder of reduced riboflavin (vitamin B2) uptake that causes progressive, multifocal neurological dysfunction. Most patients present in early childhood; if patients present later in life, symptoms usually develop more gradually. We report three previously healthy young adults, who developed rapidly progressive neurological symptoms after decreasing dietary intake of meat and dairy. After a diagnostic odyssey, the diagnosis of a riboflavin transporter deficiency was made. Treatment with high dose oral riboflavin (20-40 mg/kg/day) partially reversed symptoms. This case series highlights that reduced riboflavin intake as a result of dietary changes can unmask RTD at a later age. We emphasize the importance of early recognition of this progressive and potentially lethal disease and show that timely treatment with high dose riboflavin is highly effective.

ABSTRACT

Riboflavin (RF) serves as a precursor to flavin mononucleotide and flavin adenine dinucleotide, which are crucial cofactors in various metabolic processes. Strict regulation of cellular flavin homeostasis is imperative, yet information regarding the factors governing this regulation remains largely elusive. In this study, we first examined the impact of external flavin treatment on the Arabidopsis transcriptome to identify novel regulators of cellular flavin levels. Our analysis revealed alterations in the expression of 49 putative transcription factors. Subsequent reverse genetic screening highlighted a member of the dehydration-responsive element binding (DREB) family, AtDREB2G, as a potential regulator of cellular flavin levels. Knockout mutants of AtDREB2G (dreb2g) exhibited reduced flavin levels and decreased expression of RF biosynthetic genes compared to wild-type plants. Conversely, conditional overexpression of AtDREB2G led to an increase in the expression of RF biosynthetic genes and elevated flavin levels. In wild-type plants, exposure to low temperatures and abscisic acid treatment stimulated enhanced flavin levels and upregulated the expression of RF biosynthetic genes, concomitant with the induction of AtDREB2G. Notably, these responses were significantly attenuated in dreb2g mutants. Our findings establish AtDREB2G is involved in the positive regulation of flavin biosynthesis in Arabidopsis, particularly under conditions of low temperature and abscisic acid treatment.

ABSTRACT

Kombucha is a traditional beverage obtained by the microbial fermentation of tea using a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts. In addition to several documented functional properties, such as anti-inflammatory activity and antioxidant activity, kombucha is often credited with high levels of vitamins, including riboflavin. To our knowledge, the vitamin B2 content in traditionally prepared kombucha has been determined in only two studies, in which the concentration measured by the HPLC technique ranged from 2.2 × 10-7 to 2.1 × 10-4 mol dm-3. These unexplained differences of three orders of magnitude in the vitamin B2 content prompted us to determine its concentration during the cultivation of kombucha under very similar conditions by spectrofluorimetry. The B2 concentrations during the 10-day fermentation of black tea ranged from 7.6 × 10-8 to 3.3 × 10-7 mol dm-3.

ABSTRACT

A few Capsicum (pepper) species produce yellow-colored floral nectar, but the chemical identity and biological function of the yellow pigment are unknown. A combination of analytical biochemistry techniques was used to identify the pigment that gives Capsicum baccatum and Capsicum pubescens nectars their yellow color. Microbial growth assays, visual modeling, and honey bee preference tests for artificial nectars containing riboflavin were used to assess potential biological roles for the nectar pigment. High concentrations of riboflavin (vitamin B2) give the nectars their intense yellow color. Nectars containing riboflavin generate reactive oxygen species when exposed to light and reduce microbial growth. Visual modeling also indicates that the yellow color is highly conspicuous to bees within the context of the flower. Lastly, field experiments demonstrate that honey bees prefer artificial nectars containing riboflavin. Some Capsicum nectars contain a yellow-colored vitamin that appears to play roles in (1) limiting microbial growth, (2) the visual attraction of bees, and (3) as a reward to nectar-feeding flower visitors (potential pollinators), which is especially interesting since riboflavin is an essential nutrient for brood rearing in insects. These results cumulatively suggest that the riboflavin found in some Capsicum nectars has several functions.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Accumulating evidence suggests a pivotal role of vitamin B2 in the pathogenesis and progression of prostate cancer (PCa). Vitamin B2 intake has been postulated to modulate the screening rate for PCa by altering the concentration of prostate-specific antigen(PSA). However, the relationship between vitamin B2 and PSA remains indeterminate. Hence, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the association between vitamin B2 intake and PSA levels, utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. METHODS: From a pool of 20,371 participants in the NHANES survey conducted between 2003 and 2010, a cohort of 2,323 participants was selected for the present study. The male participants were classified into four distinct groups based on their levels of vitamin B2 intake. We employed a multiple linear regression model and a non-parametric regression method to investigate the relationship between vitamin B2 and PSA levels. RESULTS: The study cohort comprised of 2,323 participants with a mean age of 54.95 years (± 11.73). Our findings revealed a statistically significant inverse correlation between vitamin B2 intake (mg) and PSA levels, with a reduction of 0.13 ng/ml PSA concentration for every unit increase in vitamin B2 intake. Furthermore, we employed a fully adjusted model to construct a smooth curve to explore the possible linear relationship between vitamin B2 intake and PSA concentration. CONCLUSIONS: Our study in American men has unveiled a notable inverse association between vitamin B2 intake and PSA levels, potentially posing a challenge for the identification of asymptomatic prostate cancer. Specifically, our findings suggest that individuals with higher vitamin B2 intake may be at a greater risk of being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in the future, possibly indicating a detection bias. These results may offer a novel explanation for the observed positive correlation between vitamin B2 intake and prostate cancer.

ABSTRACT

CONTEXT: Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is a water-soluble micronutrient considered to be a precursor of the nucleotides flavin adenine dinucleotide and flavin mononucleotide. This vitamin makes up mitochondrial complexes and participates as an enzymatic cofactor in several mechanisms associated with energy metabolism. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review collected and discussed the most relevant results on the role of riboflavin in the energy metabolism of lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates. DATA SOURCES: A systematic search was carried out in the PubMed-Medline, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science databases using the PICOS (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Study design) strategy. DATA EXTRACTION: The screening of studies went through 2 stages following predefined eligibility criteria. The information extracted covered reference details, study design, population characteristics, experimental model, treatment parameters and dosage, route of administration, duration of treatment, and results found. DATA ANALYSIS: The risk of bias was assessed using the SYRCLE Risk of Bias (RoB) tool for in vivo studies and the QUIN tool adapted for in vitro studies, utilizing 10 domains, including selection bias, performance bias, detection bias, attrition bias, reporting bias, and other biases, to evaluate the methodological quality of the included studies. CONCLUSION: This review concludes that riboflavin regulates energy metabolism by activating primary metabolic pathways and is involved in energy balance homeostasis.

ABSTRACT

In this study, we report the preparation of bio-inspired binary CuO/ZnO nanocomposite (bb-CuO/ZnO nanocomposite) via the biological route using Bauhinia variegata flower extract following hydrothermal treatment. The prepared bb-CuO/ZnO nanocomposite was electrophoretically deposited (EPD) on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate to develop bb-CuO/ZnO/ITO biosensing electrode which is employed for the determination of vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) through electrochemical techniques. Physicochemical assets of the prepared bb-CuO/ZnO nanocomposite have been extensively evaluated and make use of different characterization techniques including powder XRD, FT-IR, AFM, SEM, TEM, EDX, XPS, Raman, and TGA. Electrochemical characteristics of the bb-CuO/ZnO/ITO biosensing electrode have been studied towards vitamin B2 determination. Furthermore, different biosensing parameters such as response time, reusability, stability, interference, and real sample analysis were also estimated. From the linear plot of scan rate, charge transfer rate constant (Ks), surface concentration of electrode (γ), and diffusion coefficient (D) have been calculated, and these are found to be 6.56 × 10-1 s-1, 1.21 × 10-7 mol cm-2, and 6.99 × 10-3 cm2 s-1, respectively. This biosensor exhibits the linear range of vitamin B2 detection from 1 to 40 µM, including sensitivity and limit of detection (LOD) of 1.37 × 10-3 mA/µM cm2 and 0.254 µM, respectively. For higher concentration range detection linearity is 50-100 µM, with sensitivity and the LOD of 1.26 × 10-3 mA/µM cm2 and 0.145 µM, respectively. The results indicate that the bio-inspired nanomaterials are promising sustainable biosensing platforms for various food and health-based biosensing devices.

ABSTRACT

In the present study, poling-free PLLA/VB2 piezoelectric composites are fabricated to achieve synchronous sound recognition and energy harvesting. The addition of VB2 can interact with PLLA by intermolecular hydrogen bonding, inducing the dipole orientation of C=O in PLLA. Meanwhile, VB2 can promote crystallization of PLLA through heterogeneous nucleation. The combination of the two strategies significantly improves the piezoelectric performance of PLLA/VB2 composites. The PLLA/VB2 can detect the sound frequency with an accuracy of 0.1% in the range of 0-20 kHz to recognize characteristic sounds from a specific source. PLLA/VB2 can also convert sound into electrical energy synchronously with an energy density of 0.2 W/cm-3 to power up LEDs. Therefore, PLLA/VB2 shows great potential in the field of information and energy synchronous collection.

ABSTRACT

Vitamin B2 is an essential water-soluble vitamin. For most prokaryotes, a bifunctional enzyme called FAD synthase catalyzes the successive conversion of riboflavin to FMN and FAD. In this study, the plasmid pNEW-AZ containing six key genes for the riboflavin synthesis was transformed into strain R2 with the deleted FMN riboswitch, yielding strain R5. The R5 strain could produce 540.23 ± 5.40 mg/L riboflavin, which was 10.61 % higher than the R4 strain containing plasmids pET-AE and pAC-Z harboring six key genes. To further enhance the production of riboflavin, homology matching and molecular docking were performed to identify key amino acid residues of FAD synthase. Nine point mutation sites were identified. By comparing riboflavin kinase activity, mutations of T203D and N210D, which respectively decreased by 29.90 % and 89.32 % compared to wild-type FAD synthase, were selected for CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing of the genome, generating engineered strains R203 and R210. pNEW-AZ was transformed into R203, generating R6. R6 produced 657.38 ± 47.48 mg/L riboflavin, a 21.69 % increase compared to R5. This study contributes to the high production of riboflavin in recombinant E. coli BL21.

ABSTRACT

Fluorescence analysis has attracted much attention due to its rapidity and sensitivity. The present work describes a novel fluorescence detection method for acid phosphatase (ACP) on the basis of inner-filter effect (IFE), where MnO2 nanosheets (MnO2 NSs) and vitamin B2 (VB2) are served as absorbers and fluorophores, respectively. In the absence of ACP, the absorption band of MnO2 NSs overlaps well with the excitation band of VB2, resulting in effective IFE and inhibition of VB2 fluorescence. In the presence of ACP, 2-phospho-L-ascorbic acid trisodium salt (AAP) is hydrolyzed to generate ascorbic acid (AA), which efficiently trigger the reduction of MnO2 NSs into Mn2+ ions, causing the weakening of the MnO2 NSs absorption band and the recovery of VB2 fluorescence. Further investigation indicates that the fluorescence recovery degree of VB2 increases with the increase of ACP concentration. Under selected experimental conditions, the proposed method can achieve sensitive detection of ACP in the ranges of 0.5-4.0 mU/mL and 4.0-15 mU/mL along with a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.14 mU/mL. Finally, this method was successfully applied for the detection of ACP in human serum samples with satisfactory recoveries in the range of 95.0 %-108 %.

ABSTRACT

Here, we demonstrated the synthesis of a zinc based luminescent MOF, 1 (NDC = 2,6- naphthalenedicarboxylate) for the ratiometric detection of biomarker riboflavin (RBF; vitamin B2) in water dispersed medium. Further, this MOF detected two other antibiotic drug molecules, nitrofurantoin (NFT) and nitrofurazone (NZF). The detection of these analytes is very quick (∼seconds), and the limit of detection (LOD) for RBF, NZF and NFT are calculated as 16.58 ppm, 47.63 ppb and 56.96 ppb, respectively. The detection of these analytes was also comprehended by solid, solution, cost-effective paper strip method i.e., triphasic identification capabilities. The sensor is reusable without losing its detection efficacy. The sensor further showed the recognition abilities of these antibiotics in real field samples (river water, urine and tablet) and RBF in vitamin B2 pills and food samples (milk and cold drinks). The sensing merit of 1 urged us to fabricate of 1@cotton fabric composite, which exhibited the colorimetric detection of these analytes. In-depth experimental analysis suggested that the occurrence of photo-induced electron transfer (PET), fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), and the inner filter effect (IFE) are the possible sensing mechanisms for the recognition of the antibiotics drug. The FRET mechanism is responsible for the recognition of RBF. The sensing mechanism is further supported by the theoretical analysis and the excited lifetime measurement.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to evaluate the association between the dietary intake of vitamin B complex (thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin) and cervical cancer in Korea. METHODS: The data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2010 to 2021 were analyzed, which included 28,306 participants who were categorized into non-cervical cancer and cervical cancer groups. The following dietary intake threshold levels of thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin were identified based on the recommended daily allowances (RDAs): thiamine, 1.1 mg/day; riboflavin, 1.2 mg/day; and niacin, 14 mg/day. RESULTS: Among 28,306 participants, 27,976 were in the non-cervical cancer group and 330 were in the cervical cancer group. Riboflavin intakes of more than 1.2 mg/day but less than 2.4 mg/day were associated with a significantly reduced risk of cervical cancer, whereas intakes of above 2.4 mg/day were not associated with cervical cancer. Thiamine and niacin intakes were not significantly related to the risk of cervical cancer. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that an intake of riboflavin of 1.2-2.4 mg/day may contribute to a lower risk of cervical cancer.

OBJECTIVES: Fluorescence spectroscopy of human urine is a method with the potential to gain importance as a diagnostic tool in the medical field, e.g., for measuring Coproporphyrin III (CPIII) as an indicator of cancer and acute types of porphyria. Food can change human urine's color, which could influence the urine fluorescence spectrum and the detection of CPIII in urine. To determine if there is a noticeable influence on the urine fluorescence spectrum or on the detection of CPIII in urine, 16 vitamin supplements, and three food items were tested. Such investigation may also prevent false interpretation of measured data. METHODS: Urine samples were collected before and after (overnight, ca. 8 h) intake of each test substance. Samples were investigated by fluorescence spectrum analysis. At excitation wavelengths from 300 to 500 nm and emission wavelengths from 400 to 700 nm excitation-emission-matrices were measured. Data obtained from urine before intake were compared to the data from overnight urine. Furthermore, the investigation of any interference with the CPIII concentration was performed at an excitation wavelength of 407 ± 3 nm and emission wavelengths of 490-800 nm. RESULTS: Only vitamin B2, but none of the other tested substances, showed noticeable influence on the urine fluorescence spectrum. None of the tested substances showed noticeable interference with the recovery rate of CPIII. CONCLUSIONS: The correct interpretation of measured data by fluorescence spectroscopy is possible with the exception if vitamin B2 supplementation was performed; thus, the consumption of vitamin B2 supplements before fluorescence testing of the patient's urine should be avoided and/or must be requested. CPIII concentrations could reliably be measured in all cases.

ABSTRACT

Background: Early-onset sarcopenia refers to the progressive loss of muscle mass and function that occurs at an early age. This condition perpetuates the vicious cycle of muscle loss and is associated with adverse outcomes. It is important to identify the contributing factors for early intervention and prevention. While diet is known to impact muscle mass, the association of B vitamins with early-onset sarcopenia remains unexplored. Objectives: To investigate the association of B vitamins intake with early-onset sarcopenia risk in a cross-sectional study. Methods: We conducted data analysis on a total of 8,711 participants aged between 20 and 59 years who took part in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2011 to 2018. Early-onset sarcopenia was defined as a SMI measured by DXA that was one standard deviation below the sex-specific mean of the reference population. B vitamins intake (B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, and B12) was assessed by 24-h dietary recall. We used weighted multiple logistic regression and RCS models to estimate the OR and 95% CI of sarcopenia by B vitamins intake, adjusting for demographic, physical, lifestyle, comorbidities, and nutritional covariates. Results: Higher intake of vitamin B1 was associated with a 22% lower sarcopenia risk (OR = 0.78, CI = 0.63-0.97, p = 0.022), and higher intake of vitamin B2 with a 16% lower risk (OR = 0.84, CI = 0.74-0.97, p = 0.012) in both genders. Gender-specific analyses showed a 28% reduction in sarcopenia risk among males with each additional mg of vitamin B1 intake (OR = 0.72, CI = 0.52-0.97, p = 0.038), and a 26% decrease among females with each additional mg of vitamin B2 intake (OR = 0.74, CI = 0.57-0.96, p = 0.021). No significant differences were found between vitamin B2 and males, or between vitamin B1 and females. The RCS model suggested a nonlinear relationship between vitamin B2 intake and sarcopenia risk (POverall = 0.001, PNonlinear = 0.033), with a plateau effect above 3 mg/d. Conclusion: Higher intake of vitamin B1 and B2 may lower the risk of early-onset sarcopenia, with gender differences. This suggests the potential of nutritional intervention by increasing these vitamins intake through diet and supplements. Further research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms and design targeted interventions.

Objectives: We explored whether the association between vitamin B2 and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk could be modified by the MTRR rs1801394 and MTR rs1805087 genetic polymorphisms and examined whether the interaction effects are sex-specific. Methods: We performed a case‒control study involving 1,420 CRC patients and 2,840 controls from the Korea National Cancer Center. Dietary vitamin B2 intake was assessed using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire, and the association with CRC was evaluated. Genotyping was performed using an Illumina MEGA-Expanded Array. For gene-nutrient interaction analysis, pre-matched (1,081 patients and 2,025 controls) and matched (1,081 patients and 1,081 controls) subsets were included. Unconditional and conditional logistic regression models were used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: A higher intake of vitamin B2 was associated with a significantly lower CRC risk (OR=0.65; 95% CI, 0.51-0.82; p<0.001). Carriers of at least 1 minor allele of MTRR rs1801394 showed a significantly higher CRC risk (OR=1.43; 95% CI, 1.12-1.83). Men homozygous for the major allele (A) of MTRR rs1801394 and who had a higher intake of vitamin B2 had a significantly lower CRC risk (OR=0.31; 95% CI, 0.18-0.54; p-interaction=0.02). In MTR rs1805087, men homozygous for the major allele (A) and who had a higher vitamin B2 intake had a significantly lower CRC risk (OR=0.38; 95% CI, 0.25-0.60; p-interaction<0.001). Conclusion: The MTRR rs1801394 and MTR rs1805087 genetic polymorphisms may modify the association between vitamin B2 and CRC risk, particularly in men. However, further studies are warranted to confirm these interaction.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the detection ability of vitamin B_1 and vitamin B_(2 )in rice flour in the laboratories of disease control and prevention system, by conducting the proficiency testing(PT)activity. METHODS: Before the vitamin B_1 and vitamin B_2 quality control samples were distributed to the laboratories of disease control and prevention system, the uniformity and stability of samples were analyzed by one-way ANOVO respectively. High performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) method was required to determine vitamin B_1(GB 5009.84-2016: determination of vitamin B_1 in food, first method as reference). HPLC method was also required to determine vitamin B_2(GB 5009.85-2016: determination of vitamin B_2 in food, first method as reference). Robust statistics analysis of proficiency testing result was conducted to evaluate laboratory testing ability through Z score. RESULTS: A total of 43 laboratories completed the proficiency testing. In all of the laboratories participated in the determination of vitamin B_(1 )and vitamin B_2, the total satisfactory rate of vitamin B_1 was 88.4%, while vitamin B_2 was 86.0%. CONCLUSION: The ability of vitamin B_1 and vitamin B_2 detection in disease control and prevention system in China is better than expected, and the testing ability of a few laboratory needs to be improved.

ABSTRACT

FTIR spectroscopy accompanied by quantum chemical simulations can reveal important information about molecular structure and intermolecular interactions in the condensed phase. Simulations typically account for the solvent either through cluster quantum mechanical (QM) models, polarizable continuum models (PCM), or hybrid quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) models. Recently, we studied the effect of aqueous solvent interactions on the vibrational frequencies of lumiflavin, a minimal flavin model, using cluster QM and PCM models. Those models successfully reproduced the relative frequencies of four prominent stretching modes of flavin's isoalloxazine ring in the diagnostic 1450-1750 cm-1 range but poorly reproduced the relative band intensities. Here, we extend our studies on this system and account for solvation through a series of increasingly sophisticated models. Only by combining elements of QM clusters, QM/MM, and PCM approaches do we obtain an improved agreement with the experiment. The study sheds light more generally on factors that can impact the computed frequencies and intensities of IR bands in solution.

ABSTRACT

Brain oxygen deprivation causes morphological damage involved in the formation of serious pathological conditions such as stroke and cerebral palsy. Therapeutic methods for post-hypoxia/anoxia injuries are limited and still have deficiencies in terms of safety and efficacy. Recently, clinical studies of stroke have reported the use of drugs containing riboflavin for post-injury clinical rehabilitation, however, the effects of vitamin B2 on exposure to cerebral oxygen deprivation are not completely elucidated. This review aimed to investigate the potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of riboflavin in cerebral hypoxia/anoxia. After a systematic search, 21 articles were selected, 8 preclinical and 12 clinical studies, and 1 translational study. Most preclinical studies used B2 alone in models of hypoxia in rodents, with doses of 1-20 mg/kg (in vivo) and 0.5-5 µM (in vitro). Together, these works suggested greater regulation of lipid peroxidation and apoptosis and an increase in neurotrophins, locomotion, and cognition after treatment. In contrast, several human studies have administered riboflavin (5 mg) in combination with other Krebs cycle metabolites, except one study, which used only B2 (20 mg). A reduction in lactic acidosis and recovery of sensorimotor functions was observed in children after treatment with B2, while adults and the elderly showed a reduction in infarct volume and cognitive rehabilitation. Based on findings from preclinical and clinical studies, we conclude that the use of riboflavin alone or in combination acts beneficially in correcting the underlying brain damage caused by hypoxia/anoxia and its inflammatory, oxidative, and behavioral impairments.

BACKGROUND: To scrutinize the relationship between vitamin B2 consumption and cognitive function based on the NHANES database. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included eligible older adults from the NHANES 2011-2014. Vitamin B2 intake was determined from dietary interview data for two 24-h periods. Cognitive function was evaluated through the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease (CERAD), Animal Fluency Test (AFT), and Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST). The regression analyses were used to evaluate the association of vitamin B2 intake with cognitive performance. Stratified analyses based on gender, race, and body mass index (BMI) were conducted. RESULTS: Higher vitamin B2 intake was correlated with higher scores on each test. As compared to the lowest quartile, the highest quartile of vitamin B2 intake was related to a 45.1-fold increase (P = 0.004) on the DSST test sores. Moreover, those who were males, non-Hispanic whites, or had a BMI of 18.5 to 30 kg/m2 had a stronger relationship between total vitamin B2 consumption and cognitive function. CONCLUSION: It's possible that older persons who consume more vitamin B2 have enhanced performance in some areas of cognitive function. To determine the causal link between vitamin B2 consumption and cognitive performance, further long-term research is required.

Riboflavin, or vitamin B2, is indispensable for poultry, profoundly impacting their metabolic equilibrium, growth, and overall health. In a climate of increasing demand for poultry products and heightened production intensity, grasping the multifaceted roles of riboflavin in domestic fowl nutrition becomes paramount. This essential vitamin serves as a precursor to two vital coenzymes, flavin mononucleotide and flavin adenine dinucleotide, integral players in pivotal redox reactions and energy metabolism. Inadequate riboflavin levels translate into stunted growth, skeletal deformities, and compromised feed conversion efficiency, thereby adversely affecting poultry performance and bottom-line profitability. Riboflavin goes beyond its fundamental role, ameliorating nutrient utilization, facilitating protein synthesis, and augmenting enzyme activity, rightfully earning its epithet as the "growth-promoting vitamin". Poultry's reproductive success intricately hinges on riboflavin levels, dictating egg production and hatchability. It is imperative to note that riboflavin requirements exhibit variations among poultry species and distinct production phases, emphasizing the importance of judicious and balanced supplementation strategies. Aligning dietary recommendations with genetic advancements holds the promise of fostering sustainable growth within the poultry sector. Exploring the multifaceted aspects of riboflavin empowers researchers, nutritionists, and producers to elevate poultry nutrition and overall well-being, harmonizing with the industry's evolving demands.
