ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of Voki, one of the web 2.0-based technology applications, on Turkish learners' speaking skills and speaking anxiety. In the study, exploratory sequential design, one of the mixed design types in which quantitative and qualitative approaches are used together, was adopted. The study group of the research consisted of 61 students at A2 level (31 experimental group, 30 control group) who learn Turkish as a foreign language at the Turkish Language Teaching Center of a university located in the south of Turkey. Speaking Anxiety Scale and Speaking Skill Assessment Form were used as data collection tools. During the 6-week intervention, the experimental group used Voki in speaking lessons, while the control group did not use any technology-based web 2.0 tool. Descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, dependent and independent groups t-test were used to analyze the quantitative data collected in the study. Descriptive analysis and content analysis were used to analyze the qualitative data collected through a semi-structured interview form. As a result of the study, it was determined that the Voki application improved the speaking skills of the students in the experimental group and reduced their speaking anxiety. It was also determined that the students in the experimental group expressed positive opinions about the application. Therefore, the use of Voki application in speaking activities in foreign language teaching is recommended.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between favorable and stressful life experiences and perceived quality of life, practices that promote quality of life, psychological profiles, and the daily use of web 2.0 tools in adults and older adults. An online questionnaire was designed, which was administered to 1,095 Spanish adults and older adults, and conducted descriptive and multivariate analyses using the general linear model. Our results showed that favorable and stressful life experiences alike were associated with differential patterns in psychological profiles, perceived quality of life and daily activities and practices that affect quality of life, including the use of web 2.0 tools. Favorable life experiences mainly affected psychological profiles and the use of web 2.0 tools, whereas stressful life experiences affected the other factors analyzed. Statistically significant differences were not found according to age and gender. These findings have important implications for promoting successful psychological and social interventions.

ABSTRACT

This article consists, in the one hand, in a review and analysis of the scientific literature concerning Emergent Intelligence, Collective Intelligence and Collaborative Intelligence concepts. On the other hand, in order to promote a conceptual framework, is routed to give an account of the problem concerning the referred concepts in the scope of the Web 2.0. In the irst section, these constructs are conceptualized and differentiated in order to then contextualize them to the framework of these technologies. Relevant sources have been selected through EBSCO and PsycINFO databases, as well as Online Conferences and digital publication journals. Although some results recorded show the productivity of collective and collaborative work reached through these technologies, this paper reports the lack of enough systematic and exhaustive studies assessing the scopes of this phenomenon and showing its multiple implementation areas.
