ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of acupoint thread-embedding on visual acuity and morphology of retina in children with refractive amblyopia. METHODS: A total of 60 children with refractive amblyopia were randomized into an observation group (30 cases, 2 cases dropped off) and a control group (30 cases, 1 case dropped off). In the control group, comprehensive therapy of eye covering of intact side and family refined performance was adopted. On the basis of the treatment in the control group, acupoint thread-embedding was applied at Ganshu (BL 18), Pishu (BL 20), Shenshu (BL 23), Zusanli (ST 36), Guangming (GB 37) in the observation group, once every 2 weeks. The treatment for 2 months was required in the both groups. The corrected vision and the variations of macular thickness of retina and average thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) before and after treatment were observed, and the therapeutic efficacy was evaluated in the both groups. RESULTS: After treatment, the corrected vision was increased compared before treatment in the both groups (P<0.05), and the improvement of corrected vision in the observation group was superior to that in the control group (P<0.05); the macular thickness of retina and the average thickness of RNFL were thinner compared before treatment in the both groups (P<0.05), and the macular thickness of retina and the average thickness of RNFL in the observation group were thinner than those in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 92.9% (26/28) in the observation group, which was superior to 79.3% (23/29) in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupoint thread-embedding can effectively increase the corrected vision in children with refractive amblyopia, and has improvement in retina morphological damage to a certain extent.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To analyze the effectiveness of transepithelial-corneal collagen cross-linking for 1a after the treatment of progressive keratoconus and discuss its clinical significance. <p>METHODS:A total of 45 cases(48 eyes)of progressive keratoconus who underwent accelerated transepithelial-corneal collagen cross-linking in our hospital from Jan. 2017 to Dec. 2018 were collected. After 1a of postoperative follow-up, the changes of visual acuity, corneal thinnest point thickness, corneal endothelial cell count, corneal cross-linking line depth, Km of anterior corneal curvature and corneal biomechanical parameters before and after surgery were analyzed.<p>RESULTS:Compared with preoperative, the uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA)was improved obviously postoperative in this group patients(<i>P</i><0.05), but the best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA), corneal thinnest point thickness and corneal endothelial cell counts were no significant change(<i>P</i>>0.05). At 6mo and 1a postoperative, Km of anterior corneal curvature(48.54±2.57, 48.77±2.29D)are decreased significantly, the first flatten width of corneal biomechanical parameters(1.52±0.21, 1.57±0.22mm)were significantly lower(<i>P</i><0.05). The absolute value of the second flattening velocity(0.82±0.09, 0.82±0.18m/s)was significantly increased(all <i>P</i><0.05).<p>CONCLUSION:Accelerated transepithelial-corneal collagen cross-linking surgery for progressive keratoconus can significantly improve the UCVA and corneal biomechanics postoperative, but the BCVA was not significantly improved.

ABSTRACT

?AIM:To compare the corrected vision and improvement of visual quality after wearing rigid gas permeable corneal lens ( RGPCL) or spectacles in aphakic patients.?METHODS: We selected 29 aphakic patients ( 29 eyes ) caused by different reasons wearing RGPCL and spectacle. The corrected vision, eye condition and visual quality were observed and all patients were followed up for 6mo.? RESULTS: RGPCL was better than spectacle on corrected vision (P<0.05).The patients who wore RGPCL for long had no corneal complications reported. The patients who wore RGPCL had better subjective visual quality than those wore spectacle.?CONCLUSION: RGPCL is a good choice for correcting high myopia and astigmatism for aphakic patients. The patients'compliance is good. Wearing RGPL long has high safety for patients'ocular surface.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: We compared vision and quality of life (VQL) of children aged 5-15 years and operated for unilateral and bilateral cataract between 2008 and 2010 in western India. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this cohort study, ophthalmologists assessed vision, anterior and posterior segment of eyes with cataract. Children completed a functional vision questionnaire (LVP-FVQ). Follow up at 6 months after surgery included the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), FVQ and eye assessment. The improvement of BCVA and quality of life were compared in group of unilateral and bilateral cataract. RESULT: A total of 20 (70%) bilateral and 7 (39%) unilateral cataract were operated within 1 month of detection. All 48 eyes with bilateral cataract were congenital and 12 (67%) unilateral cataract were traumatic. Among bilateral group, 27 eyes [56.2% (95% confidence interval (CI) 44.4-72.2)] and in unilateral group 11 eyes [61.1% (95% CI 38.6-83.6)] had vision ≥ 20/60 at 6 months follow up. The visual gain was significantly higher in children who were operated between 1 month and 1 year of detection (adjusted Odds ratio (OR) = 15.6 P = 0.03). Positive impact on VQL in bilateral group was noted in 50%, 27%, and 13% children for subscale of distant vision, near vision, and field of vision, respectively. There was positive impact in these subscales among children with unilateral cataract. Thirty percent eyes with bilateral cataract and 22% of eyes with unilateral cataract improved their vision. Surgery within 1 month of cataract was significant predictor of improved vision (OR = 16.6 P = 0.02). CONCLUSION: Vision and VQL improved in children with unilateral and bilateral cataract. However, it was better 6 months following surgery in children with bilateral cataract than in children with unilateral cataract.

ABSTRACT

We analyzed the topographic findings of central islands following excimer photorefractive keratectomies(VISX Twenty/Twenty, Inc, Santa Clara, CA) for myopia to evaluate whether the size of the central island was significantly different betwaen 1 week and 6months postoperatively and whether central island at postoperative 6months affected the decrease of corrected visual acuity from preoperative level. There were statistically significant differences in the indices related to the size of central island(peak, height, area) between 1 week(40 patients, 41 eyes) and 6 months(55 patients, 64 eyes) follow-up groups. In 64 eyes of 6months follow-up group, we could not find any statistically significant effect of the indices related to the size of central island on the decrease of corrected visual acuity, except SAI.

ABSTRACT

N". Except the average (Avg)-RNFLT had positive correlation with diopter in severe myopia group (r=0.372, P=0.047), no significant correlation was observed in other parameters among three groups. Conclusion RNFLT in myopia measured by OCT may have its own rule. Avg-RNFLT may have positive correlation with diopter in severe myopia group.
