ABSTRACT

This case report investigates the management of a 24-week-old neonate with congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and its sequelae, including severe intrauterine growth restriction, thrombocytopenia, and brain anomalies, ultimately progressing to lissencephaly. The diagnostic challenges included delayed clinical suspicion of congenital CMV, which was not identified until after delivery through CMV DNA polymerase chain reaction, and differentiating its symptoms from other potential causes of the neonate's condition. Aggressive interventions included antibiotics, antiviral therapy with ganciclovir, and supportive measures such as intubation, CPR, respiratory support, blood transfusions, and management of coagulopathy. Despite these efforts, the patient deteriorated due to progressive hypoperfusion, hypoxemic cardiorespiratory failure, and disseminated intravascular coagulopathy. Due to the poor prognosis and extent of multiorgan damage, support was withdrawn per parental consent. This case highlights the complications encountered when managing an advanced-stage neonatal CMV infection and emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to guide diagnosis and treatment.

ABSTRACT

Herein, we outlined two case reports of patients who developed cytomegalovirus colitis following the initiation of corticosteroid therapy for colitis as a result of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). For both patients, endoscopic findings were similar to those observed for patients with irAE colitis but were devoid of the characteristic features associated with cytomegalovirus colitis, including punched-out ulcers. Given the therapeutic disparities between these two conditions, it is imperative to distinguish between these conditions in clinical practice. When addressing exacerbations or refractory manifestations of irAE-associated colitis, clinicians should remain vigilant with regard to the potential for cytomegalovirus infection, even in the absence of punched-out ulcers in the colorectum.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection remains a challenge following kidney transplantation (KTx). Currently, CMV-IgG serostatus at transplantation is used to individualize CMV preventive strategies. We assessed the clinical utility of CMV-IGRA for predicting CMV infection following KTx. Methods: We performed a nationwide prospective cohort study from August 2016 until December 2022. Data from all adult KTx recipients in Norway, n=1,546 (R+; n=1,157, D+/R-; n=260, D-/R-; 129), were included with a total of 3,556 CMV-IGRA analyses (1,375 at KTx, 1,188 at eight weeks, 993 one-year after KTx) and 35,782 CMV DNAemia analyses. Results: In R+ recipients CMV-IGRA status, measured at any of the time-points, could not identify any differential risk of later CMV infection. D+/R- recipients remaining CMV-IGRA negative 1-year after transplantation (regardless of positive CMV DNAemia and/or CMV IgG status at that time) had increased risk of developing later CMV infection compared to D+/R- recipients who had become CMV-IGRA positive (14% vs. 2%, p=0.01). Conclusion: Knowledge of pre-transplant CMV-IGRA status did not provide additional information to CMV-IgG serostatus that could improve current post-transplant CMV treatment algorithms. However, D+/R- recipients with a persisting negative CMV-IGRA one-year after transplantation remained at increased risk of experiencing later CMV infection. Therefore we advocate post-transplant CMV-IGRA monitoring in these patients.

ABSTRACT

Background/aim: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common congenital viral infection. Although most children with congenital CMV (approximately 85%-90%) are asymptomatic at birth, findings such as sensorineural hearing loss, microcephaly, and neurodevelopmental retardation can be observed during the follow-up. Among the brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of CMV are white matter abnormalities, polymicrogyria, and periventricular calcification. Since a definitive diagnosis of congenital CMV cannot be made after the neonatal period, the identification of the associated phenotype is diagnostically important, but data are limited in patients who have been retrospectively diagnosed with congenital CMV infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short- and long-term neurological follow-up results of congenital CMV infections in a tertiary hospital. Materials and methods: The neurological results of fifteen patients under the age of 18 years, who had a definitive diagnosis of congenital CMV infection and were followed up in a tertiary care hospital between 2011 and 2020, were retrospectively evaluated. Results: Ten of the patients in our study group were male. The mean age at presentation for neurological evaluation was 2.02 ± 1.54 months, with a median follow-up time of 36.3 months (range: 9.3-129.4 months). Neurological disorders detected during the long-term follow-up included cerebral palsy (46.7%), cognitive impairment (46.7%), epilepsy (40%), and sensorineural hearing loss (26.7%). The most common abnormality observed on MRI scans was white matter involvement (53.3%). Conclusion: Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in congenital CMV infection, as it commonly results in neurological involvement among the patients in our series. This preventable condition warrants further research regarding prenatal/neonatal screening.

ABSTRACT

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a significant clinical concern in newborns, immunocompromised patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy or chemotherapy. CMV infection affects many organs, such as the lungs, digestive organs, the central nerve system, and eyes. In addition, CMV infection sometimes occurs in immunocompetent individuals. CMV ocular diseases includes retinitis, corneal endotheliitis, and iridocyclitis. CMV retinitis often develops in infected newborns and immunocompromised patients. CMV corneal endotheliitis and iridocyclitis sometimes develop in immunocompetent individuals. Systemic infections and CMV ocular diseases often require systemic treatment in addition to topical treatment.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Determinants of maternal-fetal cytomegalovirus (CMV) transmission and factors influencing the severity of congenital CMV (cCMV) infection are not well understood. METHODS: We conducted a descriptive, multi-center study in pregnant women ≥18 years old with primary CMV infection and their newborns (NCT01251744) to explore maternal immune responses to CMV and determine potential immunologic/virologic correlates of cCMV following primary infection during pregnancy. We developed alternative approaches looking into univariate/multivariate factors associated with cCMV, including a participant clustering/stratification approach and an interpretable predictive model-based approach using trained decision trees for risk prediction (post-hoc analyses). RESULTS: Pregnant women were grouped in three distinct clusters with similar baseline characteristics, particularly gestational age at diagnosis. We observed a trend for higher viral loads in urine and saliva samples from mothers of infants with cCMV versus without cCMV. When using a trained predictive-model approach that accounts for interaction effects between variables, anti-pentamer IgG antibody concentration and viral load in saliva were identified as biomarkers jointly associated with the risk of maternal-fetal CMV transmission. CONCLUSION: We identified biomarkers of CMV maternal-fetal transmission. After validation in larger studies, our findings will guide the management of primary infection during pregnancy and the development of vaccines against cCMV.


The human cytomegalovirus (CMV) is common and usually causes no symptoms in healthy individuals. However, CMV infections can be life-threatening in individuals with improperly functioning or immature immune systems, such as fetuses. Women can become infected with CMV for the first time (primary infection) during pregnancy. If CMV is transmitted from mother to fetus before the second trimester, the infant can suffer from severe disorders such as hearing loss and delayed development. We aimed to identify characteristics of pregnant women with a primary CMV infection that may increase the likelihood of transmitting CMV to the fetus. We considered demographical, clinical, and behavioral characteristics, as well as immune responses and the quantity of virus detected in the women's blood, urine, saliva, and vaginal mucus. Because we could not identify one single characteristic that could predict a high risk of CMV transmission, we developed new data analysis models to study how they can be combined. We found that antibodies targeting a pentameric antigen of the virus envelope and the presence of virus in saliva can together predict the risk of CMV transmission from mother to fetus. Our results can help improve the care of CMV-infected pregnant women and the design of CMV vaccines.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Prophylaxis (P) or pre-emptive strategy (PS) in high-risk liver transplant recipients (LTRs) are either recommended. We compared the results of each strategy. METHODS: Two groups of LTR transplanted during two consecutive periods were compared. Only cytomegalovirus (CMV)-mismatched LTR (Donor +/ Recipient -) were included. The primary endpoints were: the onset of polymerase chain reaction-based DNAemia and the proportion of patients with CMV disease. A number of episodes of CMV infection, antiviral therapy, ganciclovir resistance, infectious or immunological complications, cost of both strategies, and survival (1, 5, and 10 years) were also compared. RESULTS: Forty-eight and 60 patients were respectively included in the P and PS groups. Eighteen (38%) in the P group and 56 (93%) in the PS group had CMV DNAemia (p <.0001) with a similar CMV disease rate (16.7% and 15%). Duration of curative therapy was longer in the PS group: 91 days versus 16 (p <.0001). Acute rejection was less frequent (p = .04) and more patients experienced a ganciclovir-resistant CMV infection in the PS group (10% vs. 0, p = .03). The drug-associated cost of PS was higher (10 004 vs. 4804€) and the median number of rehospitalization days tended to be higher (6 vs. 4, p = .06). Survival at any time was similar. CONCLUSION: We reported more CMV DNAemias and ganciclovir-resistant CMV events with PS. The cost of the PS strategy was higher.

ABSTRACT

Cavitary lung lesions are uncommon radiological findings in cytomegalovirus pneumonia, and tissue biopsy is rarely performed for diagnosis. A 67-year-old man presented with a wet cough. Extensive white moss in the oral cavity was found on physical examination, and chest computed tomography revealed an approximately 4 cm cavitary lesion in the upper lobe of the right lung. Blood tests showed a critically low CD4+ T lymphocyte count and positivity for human immunodeficiency virus type 1 antibodies. A transbronchial biopsy of the cavitary lung lesion was performed, and inclusion bodies in the nuclei of enlarged alveolar epithelial cells were seen in the histopathological findings. Immunohistochemistry staining for cytomegalovirus was positive, and cytomegalovirus pneumonia was diagnosed. Ganciclovir treatment was initiated, and the symptoms and imaging findings resolved. Cytomegalovirus pneumonia can present as cavitary lung lesions in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, and a transbronchial biopsy is essentially useful for a definitive diagnosis.

INTRODUCTION: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is associated with a poor prognosis after lung transplantation, and donor and recipient CMV serostatus is a risk factor for reactivation. CMV prophylaxis is commonly administered in the first year following transplantation to reduce CMV infection; however, the risk factors for long-term reactivation remain unclear. We investigated the timing and risk factors of CMV infection after prophylactic administration. METHODS: This study was a retrospective review of the institutional lung transplantation database from June 2014 to June 2022. Data on patient characteristics, pretransplantation laboratory values, postoperative outcomes, and CMV infection were collected. Donor CMV-IgG-positive and recipient CMV-IgG-negative groups were defined as the CMV mismatch group. RESULTS: During the study period, 257 patients underwent lung transplantation and received a prophylactic dose of valganciclovir hydrochloride for up to 1 y. CMV infection was detected in 69 patients (26.8%): 40 of 203 (19.7%) in the non-CMV mismatch group and 29 of 54 (53.7%) in the CMV mismatch group (P < 0.001). CMV infection after prophylaxis occurred at a median of 425 and 455 d in the CMV mismatch and non-CMV mismatch groups, respectively (P = 0.07). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that preoperative albumin level (odds ratio [OR] = 0.39, P = 0.04), CMV mismatch (OR = 15.7, P < 0.001), and donor age (OR = 1.05, P = 0.009) were significantly associated with CMV infection. CONCLUSIONS: CMV mismatch may have increased the risk of CMV infection after lung transplantation, which decreased after prophylaxis. In addition to CMV mismatch, low preoperative albumin level and donor age were independent predictors of CMV infection.

ABSTRACT

A 69-year-old man was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma (Grade 3A). Obinutuzumab combined with bendamustine (OB) therapy was initiated as salvage chemotherapy. Nausea, abdominal pain, and hyponatremia appeared after six courses of OB therapy; cytomegalovirus (CMV) enteritis with primary adrenal insufficiency (PAI) was a complication. Ganciclovir and hydrocortisone were administered, and the clinical findings improved. PAI caused by CMV infection has mainly been reported in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. In the present case, the PAI triggered by CMV infection led to immunodeficiency after chemotherapy.

ABSTRACT

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is classified within the Herpesvirales order and is prevalent in 50%‒80% of the general population. Most carriers experience this infection without noticeable clinical symptoms. HCMV causes a lifelong latent infection that can be reactivated due to immune disorders and inflammation. The reactivation of HCMV becomes particularly significant when it coincides with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). While cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis in IBD patients was identified years ago, the role of CMV in triggering flare-ups, acute severe colitis, treatment resistance, and other outcomes in IBD patients experiencing CMV reactivation remains a subject of ongoing debate. In this review, we aim to address an updated insight into aspects related to the CMV colitis in IBD patients including epidemiology, risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic tests, histology, place of immunosuppressants and indications for antiviral treatment. We suggest for personalized and thorough assessment based on the disease phase and colitis severity when prescribing drugs to these patients. Furthermore, we emphasize the importance of regular patient follow-up to monitor drug side effects, ensuring treatment success, and minimizing the risk of colectomy.

The introduction of daratumumab has improved treatment outcomes for multiple myeloma (MM). However, infectious complications are a concern in patients receiving daratumumab. Although some reports have explored the association between daratumumab and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, most of these have focused on relapsed or refractory cases, and few describe patients with newly diagnosed MM (NDMM). In this study, we retrospectively analyzed CMV infections in 53 patients with NDMM who received daratumumab as induction therapy. CMV infection was defined as CMV antigenemia positivity. The median age at treatment initiation was 71 years (range, 50-82 years), and 50.9% of the patients were female. The median duration of daratumumab administration was 10.0 months (range, 0.3-63.8 months). Nine patients developed CMV infection, and the cumulative incidence rate at six months was 18.1% (95% confidence interval: 8.9-30.1%). One patient experienced CMV retinitis and required antiviral therapy, while the remaining eight patients did not require treatment and could be managed through observation. Few cases of CMV infection during daratumumab treatment for NDMM required treatment. However, the incidence of CMV infection was not negligible, suggesting that regular monitoring for CMV is worth considering to ensure more appropriate management during daratumumab treatment.

ABSTRACT

Congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection carries a significant burden with a 0.64% global prevalence and a 17-20% chance of serious long-term effects in children. Since the last guidelines, our understanding, particularly regarding primary maternal infections, has improved. A cCMV guidelines group was convened under the patronage of the European Society of Clinical Virology in April 2023 to refine these insights. The quality and validity of selected studies were assessed for potential biases and the GRADE framework was employed to evaluate quality of evidence across key domains. The resulting recommendations address managing cCMV, spanning prevention to postnatal care. Emphasizing early and accurate maternal diagnosis through serological tests enhances risk management and prevention strategies, including using valaciclovir to prevent vertical transmission. The guidelines also strive to refine personalized postnatal care based on risk assessments, ensuring targeted interventions for affected families.

BACKGROUND: Congenital CMV infection is the most common congenital infection worldwide and a major cause of neurological impairment and sensorineural hearing loss. Fetal CMV infection is confirmed by a positive PCR test in the amniotic fluid (amniocentesis performed after 18-20 weeks of gestation and at least 8 weeks after maternal infection). However, despite a negative antenatal CMV PCR result, some newborns can be tested positive at birth. Although not widely documented, the prognosis for these babies appears to be good. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to evaluate the long-term prognosis of fetuses with a false-negative AFS for cCMV, with a minimum follow-up period of 6 years. STUDY DESIGN: This is a retrospective cohort study of false-negative amniocentesis reported at the CUB-Hôpital Erasme and Hôpital CHIREC in Brussels between 1985 and 2017. RESULTS: Of the 712 negative CMV PCR amniocenteses, 24 had a CMV PCR positive at birth. The false negative rate was 8.6 %. Of the 24 cases, 9 primary maternal infections occurred in the first trimester, 14 in the second trimester and 1 in the third trimester. Among the 24 children, 2 had symptoms at birth (hyperbilirubinemia and left paraventricular cysts), but all had normal follow-up (minimum 4 years, mean 16,6 years). DISCUSSION: Only 2 cases could be explained by early amniocentesis. Among the others, the false-negative results could be attributed to a low viral load, a delayed infection or, less likely, to a sample degradation. CONCLUSION: Despite the false-negative results, all 24 children had a normal long-term follow-up.

ABSTRACT

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection involving the skin is relatively rare. We herein report a case involving a man in his late 70s with positive hepatitis B surface antigen who presented with multiform skin lesions, including a papuloid rash, papular urticaria, and purpura. The patient had taken no antiviral drugs for nearly 13 years but had recently developed severe liver injury. Laboratory examination revealed positive CMV immunoglobulin M, CMV polymerase chain reaction result of 1.09 × 102 copies/mL, and a slightly decreased CD4+ cell count; however, the CD8+ T-cell count was within the normal range. A skin biopsy was performed in the region of the papular eruption on the left inner thigh, and the pathologic findings were consistent with CMV infection. After admission, the patient began a combination of antiviral therapy for hepatitis B virus and CMV. After 3 weeks of treatment, the patient was discharged with skin lesions, and his liver function recovered.

BACKGROUND: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is associated with poor outcome in ICU patients. However, data on immunocompromised patients are scarce. This study aims to describe characteristics and outcomes of critically ill hematological patients and CMV infection. CMV disease characteristics and relationship between CMV viral load, CMV disease, coinfections by other pathogens and outcomes are described. METHODS: Retrospective single center study (Jan 2010-Dec 2017). Adult patients, admitted to the ICU, having underlying hematological malignancy and CMV infection were included. Results are reported as median (interquartile) or n (%). Factors associated with hospital mortality or CMV disease were analysed using logistic regression. RESULTS: 178 patients were included (median age 55y [42-64], 69.1% male). Hospital mortality was 53% (n = 95). Median viral load was 2.7 Log [2.3-3.5]. CMV disease occurred in 44 (24.7%) patients. Coinfections concerned 159 patients (89.3%). After adjustment for confounders, need for vasopressors (OR 2.53; 95%CI 1.11-5.97) and viral load (OR 1.88 per Log; 95%CI 1.29-2.85) were associated with hospital mortality. However, neither CMV disease nor treatment were associated with outcomes. Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (OR 2.55; 95%CI 1.05-6.16), mechanical ventilation (OR 4.11; OR 1.77-10.54) and viral load (OR 1.77 per Log; 95%CI 1.23-2.61) were independently associated with CMV disease. Coinfections were not associated with CMV disease or hospital mortality. CONCLUSION: In critically-ill hematological patients, CMV viral load is independently associated with hospital mortality. Conversely, neither CMV disease nor treatment was associated with outcome suggesting viral load to be a surrogate for immune status rather than a cause of poor outcome.

ABSTRACT

The 22q11.2 deletion syndrome has many complications; one of them is immunodeficiency. However, the time of onset and the degree of immunodeficiency can vary. We report a case of a preterm infant with congenital cytomegalovirus infection complicated with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome and immunological abnormalities. Ultrasonography revealed pulmonary atresia, ventricular septal defect, major aortopulmonary collateral artery, and thymic hypoplasia. His serum chemistry tests on admission revealed immunoglobulin G, A, and M levels of 1,547 mg/dL, 70 mg/dL, and 274 mg/dL, respectively. A surface antigen analysis of the peripheral lymphocytes using flow cytometry revealed the following: relatively low CD4-positive T-cell levels (18.1%; 1,767/µL), very high CD8-positive T-cell levels (58.9%; 5,751/µL), and CD4/CD8 ratio of 0.31. The level of T-cell receptor excision circles was relatively low at 17.5 copies/µL. After birth, the CD8-positive T-cell level began to gradually decrease, whereas the CD4/CD8 ratio began to increase. Thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, and skin petechiae were observed on admission. However, the condition improved. Treatment for congenital cytomegalovirus infection was not provided due to the absence of viremia. Unfortunately, the patient died suddenly on the 158th day of life, and the cause of death was unknown. To the best of our knowledge, no association between 22q11 deletion syndrome and cCMV has been described in the recent medical literature. According to the calculation, around one newborn infant who have both 22q11 deletion syndrome and cCMV infection will be born each year in Japan. Healthcare providers should pay more attention to this medical situation in the future.

ABSTRACT

The repertoire of currently available antiviral drugs spans therapeutic applications against a number of important human pathogens distributed worldwide. These include cases of the pandemic severe acute respiratory coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19), human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1 or AIDS), and the pregnancy- and posttransplant-relevant human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). In almost all cases, approved therapies are based on direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), but their benefit, particularly in long-term applications, is often limited by the induction of viral drug resistance or side effects. These issues might be addressed by the additional use of host-directed antivirals (HDAs). As a strong input from long-term experiences with cancer therapies, host protein kinases may serve as HDA targets of mechanistically new antiviral drugs. The study demonstrates such a novel antiviral strategy by targeting the major virus-supportive host kinase CDK7. Importantly, this strategy focuses on highly selective, 3D structure-derived CDK7 inhibitors carrying a warhead moiety that mediates covalent target binding. In summary, the main experimental findings of this study are as follows: (1) the in vitro verification of CDK7 inhibition and selectivity that confirms the warhead covalent-binding principle (by CDK-specific kinase assays), (2) the highly pronounced antiviral efficacies of the hit compounds (in cultured cell-based infection models) with half-maximal effective concentrations that reach down to picomolar levels, (3) a particularly strong potency of compounds against strains and reporter-expressing recombinants of HCMV (using infection assays in primary human fibroblasts), (4) additional activity against further herpesviruses such as animal CMVs and VZV, (5) unique mechanistic properties that include an immediate block of HCMV replication directed early (determined by Western blot detection of viral marker proteins), (6) a substantial drug synergism in combination with MBV (measured by a Loewe additivity fixed-dose assay), and (7) a strong sensitivity of clinically relevant HCMV mutants carrying MBV or ganciclovir resistance markers. Combined, the data highlight the huge developmental potential of this host-directed antiviral targeting concept utilizing covalently binding CDK7 inhibitors.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a common complication in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Management of refractory CMV infections, especially in developing countries, can be challenging due to the limited availability of second and third-line antiviral drugs or alternative treatments. Here, we present a case of an 8 years-old patient diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Eight months post-diagnosis, the patient underwent TCR-αß+/CD19+-depleted haploidentical HSCT. Both the donor and recipient tested positive for anti-CMV IgG and negative for IgM antibodies. Before transplantation, the patient received CMV prophylaxis in the form of intravenous ganciclovir. Post-transplantation, the patient exhibited oscillating CMV viral loads and was diagnosed with a refractory infection. Treatment with ganciclovir, foscarnet, and cidofovir was unsuccessful. Sequencing of UL-54 and UL-97 genes was performed to rule out potential resistance to first-line treatment. Ten months after the HSCT, the child died from hypovolemic shock due to gastrointestinal bleeding. This is the first case reported in Peru and Latin America of a refractory CMV infection in a pediatric HSCT recipient without evidence of clinical symptoms and CMV genetic resistance. This case demonstrates the need for alternative treatments to manage refractory CMV infections, especially in haploidentical HSCT cases where drug resistance is frequent (~15%). Furthermore, this case highlights the importance of using highly sensitive genetic tools to detect mutations associated with virus resistance in a broader range of the viral genome.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is one of the common complications which can lead to significant morbidity and mortality in patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). As the seroprevalence of CMV infection in Malaysia is high, this study aims to determine the prevalence of CMV infection in patients post HSCT and to evaluate the associated risk factors. Patients who underwent allogeneic HSCT in adult ward from 2008 to 2020 at a tertiary teaching hospital in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were studied retrospectively. They were followed up for a minimum of 100 days post-HSCT to determine the incidence of CMV infection. CMV infection was defined according to CMV Drug Development Forum 2014. Risk factors such as type of transplant, serostatus of donor and patients, age, gender, race, presence of graft versus host disease (GVHD) and underlying disease were included for analysis. A total of 112 patients were included. Forty (35.7%) patients had CMV infection with median of onset recorded as 40 days (range 13-95 days). Only haplo-identical HSCT and presence of GVHD were identified as significant risk factors. Patients who had CMV infection had a lower median survival time although this was not statistically significant. The CMV infection rate was comparable with previous reports in Asia and as expected, higher than the western countries. Therefore, vigilant monitoring of CMV infection should be implemented especially in patients who had haplo-identical HSCT and acute GVHD.
