ABSTRACT
Se hizo un estudio descriptivo y transversal para determinar las tasas de mortalidad y letalidad por insuficiencia renal crónica, calculadas sobre la base de pacientes en estadio terminal, atendidos en el Servicio de Hemodiálisis del Hospital General Docente Dr Juan Bruno Zayas de Santiago de Cuba. Las infecciones constituyeron la principal causa de muerte de los pacientes con tratamiento hemodialítico. La mortalidad en hemodiálisis representó un porcentaje elevado del total de fallecidos en la institución en más de un quinquenio
A descriptive and cross sectional study was carried out to determine the mortality and lethality rates due to chronic renal failure, calculated on the base of terminally ill patients, attended at the Hemodialysis Service of Dr Juan Bruno Zayas Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba. Infections constituted the main cause of death in patients with hemodialysis treatment. The mortality during hemodialysis represented a high percentage of the total of deads in the institution in more than a five year period
