ABSTRACT

Oral solid dosage(OSD) occupies a key position in the market of Chinese patent medicines and new traditional Chinese medicines. Processing route is the foundation for the research and development of traditional Chinese medicine OSDs. On the basis of prescriptions and preparation methods of 1 308 traditional Chinese medicine OSDs recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, we summarized the patterns of processing routes of both modern dosage forms(tablets, granules, and capsules) and traditional dosage forms(pills and powder) and constructed a manufacturing classification system(MCS) based on the processing routes. Based on the MCS, statistical analyses were conducted respectively on medicinal materials, pharmaceutical excipients, extraction solvents in the pretreatment process, crushed medicinal materials, methods of concentration and purification, and methods of drying and granulation, aiming to uncover the process features. The results showed that each dosage form can be prepared via different routes with different processing methods of decoction pieces and raw materials for dosage preparation. The raw materials for dosage form preparation of traditional Chinese medicine OSDs included total extract, semi-extract, and total crushed powder, which accounted for different proportions. The raw materials for traditional dosage forms are mainly decoction pieces powder. Semi-extracts are the main raw materials for tablets and capsules, which account for 64.8% and 56.3%, respectively. Total extracts are the main raw materials for granules, with a proportion of 77.8%. Compared with tablets and capsules, traditional Chinese medicine granules with dissolubility requirements had a larger proportion of water extraction process, a higher proportion of refining process(34.7%), and a lower proportion of crushed medicinal mate-rials in semi-extract granules. There are four ways to add volatile oil to the modern dosage forms of traditional Chinese medicine. In addition, some new technologies and processes have been used in concentration, filtration, and granulation processes of traditional Chinese medicine OSDs, and the application of pharmaceutical excipients is diversified. The results of this study are expected to provide reference for the processing route design and upgrading of OSDs for new traditional Chinese medicines.

ABSTRACT

Thermal processing is a useful method for improving the strengthening effects of fibers used to reinforce metal matrix composites (MMCs), but the corresponding models have not been constructed. In this work, a Ti matrix composite (TMC) reinforced by in situ TiB fibers was prepared, then thermal processing was applied to it at different levels of deformation to align the TiB fibers along the loading direction. Changes in the microstructure of the matrix, the orientation and the aspect ratio of the TiB fibers during this process were investigated. It was found that the aspect ratio of TiB fibers decreased sharply after a large amount of deformation. The strengthening effect of TiB fibers in the composite was simulated by strengthening models of the fibers, and the simulated results were verified by the results of tensile tests. The modeled results show that the strengthening factor (C0) of the in situ TiB fibers improved from 0.125 in the as-cast composite to 0.520, 0.688 and 0.858 by the processes with deformation ratios of 0.39, 0.26 and 0.14, respectively. The results of the tensile tests showed that the measured values of C0 gradually deviated from the modeled ones with an increase in the ratio of deformation applied during processing, and the deviation could be interpreted with the strengthening models.

ABSTRACT

One of the major smoking prevention strategies has been to educate the public and increase people's awareness, using health-warning messages. However, many young people continue smoking without paying attention to health risk messages on cigarette packets in Iran. Hence, this study was conducted to examine the processing route of anti-smoking messages and influencing cognitive factors based on the Elaboration Likelihood Model. This cross-sectional study was correlational in nature. The non-probability sample consisted of 387 tobacco smokers in the age range of 18 to 30 years old. The study was conducted between July and November of 2018 in Tabriz, Iran. A researcher-designed questionnaire was used for the purpose of data collection. No causal inferences were drawn due to the non-experimental nature of the investigation. It was found that tobacco smokers often processed the health warning messages through the central route. Perceived severity, smoking abstinence self-efficacy, and psychological dependence were predictors of message processing through the central route. The results supported the conceptual model of cognitional predictors of the processing route. To design and execute effective health warning messages to quit smoking, it is recommended to consider cognitive factors as a means to enhance critical thinking about the content of the health-warning message.

ABSTRACT

Commercially available AZ31 magnesium alloy was four times extruded in an equal rectangular channel using three different routes (A, B, and C). Micro tensile deformation tests were performed at room temperature with the aim to reveal any plastic anisotropy developed during the extrusion. Samples for micro tensile experiments were cut from extruded billets in different orientations with respect to the pressing direction. Information about the microstructure of samples was obtained using the electron back-scatter diffraction (EBSD) technique. Deformation characteristics (yield stress, ultimate tensile stress and uniform elongation) exhibited significant anisotropy as a consequence of different orientations between the stress direction and texture and thus different deformation mechanisms.
