ABSTRACT

This article explores how the body and imagination operate as pathways of knowledge through the use of Movement as Active Imagination in clinical practice. This method activates the transcendent function, thus encouraging new therapeutic responses. A philosophical perspective (Spinoza, Nietzsche, Merleau-Ponty) and some concepts from neuroscience (embodied cognition, somatic markers, image schema, mirror neurons, neuronal plasticity) will accompany us throughout this work, illustrated with a clinical vignette. Three levels of integration: 1) body, 2) body-emotion, 3) body-emotion-imagination are proposed: these mark a progressive sense of articulation and complexity. Finally the relation between creativity and neuronal plasticity will be considered.

ABSTRACT

The centrality of the ethical dimension in Carl Gustav Jung's analytical psychology is demonstrated through careful reference to fundamental moments in the Jungian text. Tracking Jung's statements about the primacy of the 'moral function' (or 'moral factor') in the cure of neurosis as well as in the process of individuation, the ethical nature of the psychotherapeutic praxis proposed by Jung is highlighted. This allows us to see the ethical aspect of psychological conflicts, and thus to understand better why individuation can be seen as a 'moral achievement'. Finally, the intelligible ethical structure of Jungian psychotherapeutic praxis is exposed.

ABSTRACT

Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) has shown effectiveness in overcoming dormancy, but its use carries effective workers and environmental risks. The objective of this work was to study the sulfuric acid treatment effectiveness, recommended by the RAS, and the use of ventilation with dry, heated air to overcome the dormancy and germination performance of six seed lots Urochloa humidicola cv. Tully. Comparison between the physiological effects of heat treatments at 45, 55, 65 and 75 ºC, with periods 24 and 48 h and chemical scarification (immersion in concentrated H2SO4) for 10 min, constituting eight treatments and two controls was performed. The seed germination, the germination velocity index, the tetrazolium test and seedling dry weight was evaluated. The use of controlled temperatures and of H2SO4 are mechanisms to overcome dormancy, but in lots with greater vitality were equal to conventional treatment with sulfuric acid results and can be considered as an alternative. In general, the work did not show the best indicated time (24 or 48 h) for use with dry air ventilation, however a temperature of 60 °C for lots of high vitality (L1, L3 and L5) might be recommended. The H2SO4 in plots with high vitality was not statistically significant compared to control, but for lots with less vitality occurred physiological deterioration of seeds.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Fish farms water quality management is analyzed with regard to the management employed and the different trophic states are compared within the system during the dry and rainy seasons. Six sites were marked two in the water supply (P1 and P2), and four within the fish farm (P3 to P6). Whereas sites P1 and P2 (water supply) were characterized as oligotrophic, the others were mesotrophic and eutrotrophic sites. Environmental variables, mainly nutrients, conductivity, COD, BOD5 and TSS tended to increase as from P3 due to management and fertilization. Greater impact has been registered in the fish farm under analysis for variables COD, ammonia, total phosphorus and TSS during the discharge and pond emptying period. Frequent monitoring of water quality should be undertaken in fish breeding and plankton production ponds, especially in those close to P3 and P4. Removal of sediment in decantation lake or P5 is also recommended to decrease nutrient concentrations, especially phosphorus, accumulated on the bottom soil.(AU)
