ABSTRACT

The elucidation of resources pertaining to the Chimonanthus praecox varieties and the establishment of a fingerprint serve as crucial underpinnings for advancing scientific inquiry and industrial progress in relation to C. praecox. Employing the SSR molecular marker technology, an exploration of the genetic diversity of 175 C. praecox varieties (lines) in the Yanling region was conducted, and an analysis of the genetic diversity among these varieties was carried out using the UPDM clustering method in NTSYSpc 2.1 software. We analyzed the genetic structure of 175 germplasm using Structure v2.3.3 software based on a Bayesian model. General linear model (GLM) association was utilized to analyze traits and markers. The genetic diversity analysis revealed a mean number of alleles (Na) of 6.857, a mean expected heterozygosity (He) of 0.496 3, a mean observed heterozygosity (Ho) of 0.503 7, a mean genetic diversity index of Nei՚s of 0.494 9, and a mean Shannon information index of 0.995 8. These results suggest that the C. praecox population in Yanling exhibits a rich genetic diversity. Additionally, the population structure and the UPDM clustering were examined. In the GLM model, a total of fifteen marker loci exhibited significant (P < 0.05) association with eight phenotypic traits, with the explained phenotypic variation ranging from 14.90% to 36.03%. The construction of fingerprints for C. praecox varieties (lines) was accomplished by utilizing eleven primer pairs with the highest polymorphic information content, resulting in the analysis of 175 SSR markers. The present study offers a thorough examination of the genetic diversity and SSR molecular markers of C. praecox in Yanling, and establishes a fundamental germplasm repository of C. praecox, thereby furnishing theoretical underpinnings for the selection and cultivation of novel and superior C. praecox varieties, varietal identification, and resource preservation and exploitation.

ABSTRACT

AIM: The Chronic Illness Resources Survey (CIRS) is a tool for assessing multiple levels of resources for self-management in people with chronic illnesses. This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the CIRS (CIRS-J) among patients with diabetes. METHODS: This study included 102 Japanese patients with diabetes. Patients completed the CIRS-J on two occasions with additional measurements, including the multidimensional scale of perceived social support (MSPSS), the summary of diabetes self-care activities (SDSCA), and the perceived health competence scale (PHCS). The construct validity, internal consistency reliability, and test-retest reliability were evaluated. RESULTS: Factor analysis resulted in six factors. The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.82, indicating a high internal consistency. The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.87, indicating that the CIRS-J is stable over time. The CIRS-J showed a positive moderate association with MSPSS, SDSCA, and PHCS, with a correlation coefficient value ranging from .34 to .44. CONCLUSION: This study showed preliminary support for the reliability and validity of the CIRS-J. The availability of this instrument will help identify the spectrum of resources available for Japanese people with diabetes in both research and practical settings.

ABSTRACT

The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Aquatic Resources Survey (NARS) is a 5-year ongoing cycle of nationwide aquatic resource surveys which provide a report card on the condition of our nation's waters. The surveys are performed using a randomized, statistically valid design and provide statistically robust data which are used to develop the reports. These reports assess how well existing pollution prevention programs are protecting those waters, and how to better target future protection efforts. This presentation will focus on the results and uses of the 2011 National Wetland Condition Assessment (NWCA) outcomes. Some of the outcomes from the NWCA include (1) robust multi-metric indices used to evaluate condition across varying wetland types, streams, and ecoregions and (2) physical, chemical, and biological indicators of stress (risk factors) which identify the factors which contribute most to poor condition. (3) A wealth of quality-assured, statistically valid data which can be mined to pursue other questions within both regulatory and non-regulatory programs by providing a more robust look at wetland and stream condition. There are a variety of ways in which knowledge of condition can be used to better evaluate environmental states and inform decision-making. Knowledge of risk factors, for example, can be used to prioritize restoration efforts to improve the health of streams and wetlands in poor condition, as well as to identify practices to be avoided in reviewing permit applications for work in waters. The use of multi-metric plant condition indices could be useful in better identifying achieved "lift" in wetland mitigation banks, as well as providing a more robust measure of mitigation or restoration success. It is our hope to generate some seeds for future thought and discussion on ways in which the products of these NARS surveys can enhance the protection and restoration of these aquatic resources.

ABSTRACT

A high level of social support can improve long-term diabetes self-management. Support from a single source has been evaluated. This study aims to analyze support from multiple and multilevel sources for diabetic patients by using the Chronic Illness Resources Survey (CIRS). Factors influencing the utilization of the CIRS were also evaluated. A total of 297 patients with diabetes were investigated using the CIRS and Perceived Diabetes Self-management Scale in Shihezi City, China. Descriptive statistics were used to explain demographic variables and scores of the scales. Factors affecting the utilization of chronic illness resources were determined through univariate analysis and then examined by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Of the 297 diabetic patients surveyed, 67% failed to reach the standard (more than 3 points) of utilizing chronic illness resources. Moreover, utilization of chronic illness resources was positively moderately correlated with self-management of diabetes (r = 0.75, P < 0.05). According to the multivariate logistic regression analysis, age (OR, 3.42; 95%CI, 1.19-9.84) and monthly income (OR, 5.27; 95%CI, 1.86-14.90) were significantly positively associated with the CIRS score. Individuals with high school (OR, 2.61; 95%CI, 1.13-6.05) and college (OR, 3.02; 95%CI, 1.13-8.04) degrees obtained higher scores in the survey than those with elementary school education. Results indicated that utilization of resources and support for chronic illness self-management, particularly personal adjustment and organization, were not ideal among diabetics in the communities of north-western China. Improved utilization of chronic illness resources was conducive for proper diabetes self-management. Furthermore, the level of utilization of chronic illness resources increased with age, literacy level, and monthly income.

ABSTRACT

The authors introduced the current situation of resources survey in Chinese materia medica (CMM) and 3S technology applied in the investigation of medicinal plant resources, summarized the applications in cultivars, wild widespread species, rare species of wild special ecological medicinal plant resources, and reserves estimation research by 3S technology in recent years. Presenting the hyperspectral remote sensing in CMM resources survey and reserves estimates for a case. More about the 3S technology was in medicinal plant suitability assessment application, but fewer were studies in terms of resource survey and estimating reserves. Most are concentrated in a large area of cultivated or wild species widely distributed species such as ginseng, licorice, saffron, and a few of several medicinal plants. Especially the application of rare species of wild medicinal plant resources investigation is still blank. With the launch of high-resolution satellite and development of hyperspectral remote sensing technology, making use of 3S technology on rare species of wild medicinal plant resources investigating is possible.
