ABSTRACT

Following the establishment of the European Society for Surgical Research - ESSR on February 17, 1966 in Nancy/France. After the Re-establishment of Hungarian Surgical Society the organization of the Experimental Surgical Section of the Hungarian Surgical Society also started in October 1966. By January 25, 1967, there were 134 registered members of the Section. Authors present the organisation's letters with the list of applicants with contemporary documents. The Hungarian Experimental Surgical Section held its first congress on September 29-30, 1967 in Debrecen and Hajdúszoboszló.

ABSTRACT

(AU)

Many techniques have been proposed in order to optimize the performance and development of surgical procedures. Some have beenmaintained over time and others have been discontinued for a variety of reasons. Sinemaprasía was a procedure, which althoughit had a history of employment by some authors occasionally, it was the Professor of Surgical Anatomy, Operations, Dressings andBandages, Vicente Sagarra Lascurain who promoted it at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. He wanted to highlight in itits simplicity of use, effectiveness in the umlaut and above all the less bleeding that occurred in the surgical wound in its application, which made it very suitable for use in highly vascular tissues and organs, such as penile amputations. and tongue. The techniquewas used in a not very widespread way and with the passage of time it was forgotten. The work tries to remember from the historicalpoint of view this technique, its use, the indications for use and reference to its results, widely published by its promoter. (AU)

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: In this study, we characterized the topics and type of research performed for abstracts submitted to the AAP SoSU national conferences from 2010-2013. METHODS: All abstracts submitted to the AAP SoSU Program Committee from 2010-2013 were analyzed. Abstracts were classified as basic science, clinical, domestic, international, as well as by disease processes, single, multicenter, retrospective, prospective, registry data, or other. RESULTS: From 2010-2013, 709 abstracts were submitted (2010 - 163, 2011 - 166, 2012 - 208, 2013 - 172), of which 349 were accepted (49% total acceptance rate (AR)). 17% represented basic science studies (74% AR), while 592 (84%) were clinical studies (44% AR). By disease state, CDH (57 abstracts, 70.2% AR), appendicitis (53 abstracts, 43% AR), and NEC (39 abstracts, 56% AR) were the most common. Most clinical abstracts (63%) were single-center retrospective reviews, 13% were large data registries, <5% were prospective studies, and only 5 abstracts were randomized controlled trials. CONCLUSIONS: The AAP SoSU abstract submission data demonstrate a wide variety of research studies spanning the entirety of our field. Basic science studies have a higher AR than clinical studies, and the topics of CDH, appendicitis, and NEC continue to be the most popular areas of study.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to introduce a new method of assuring surgical margins for abdominal radical trachelectomy (ART) and report our experience using the method. METHODS: We combined transverse and perpendicular sections to assess surgical margins of specimens from RT. All surgeries from 1st August 2012 to 1st October 2013 were performed by one surgeon. The frozen section (FS) was consistently performed by a group of gynaecologic pathologists according to the detailed protocol described in this article. All cases were prepared by the same pathologist, and the slides were reviewed by two pathologists. RESULTS: There were 53 patients treated using the new method in our institution. The patient ages ranged from 20 to 41 years old (median 32). The surgeries were performed for clinical stage IA (n = 11) with LVSI and IB (n = 42) tumours (40 squamous cell carcinoma, 11 adenocarcinoma, two adenosquamous and two others). In 20 (37.74%) cases, no residual tumour of the ART specimen on frozen section was observed in the specimens as it was cleared by the preceding loop electrical excision procedure (LEEP) or conization. The margins were initially reported as negative in 45 cases and positive in nine cases. In those nine cases, a second slice of cervix was removed and negative in six cases and positive again in two cases, the other one with positive nodes. The results of frozen sections were concordant with the final paraffin-embedded sections. There were no false negative intraoperative assessments. There were no recurrences after a median follow-up of 15.4 months (range, 6-21 months). CONCLUSIONS: Combining transverse and perpendicular sections to assess surgical margins of specimens from RT makes the protocol simple, reliable and produces accurate results.

ABSTRACT

The American Academy of Pediatrics provided a home for pediatric surgery when organized surgery did not recognize the specialty. They have continued to support surgical specialties in their pursuit of quality in education, training and practice. The AAP has appropriate infrastructure to support advocacy at both the federal and state levels. The fact that it does not have a PAC, and that it always puts the child first, has given it great credibility. Much of the AAP infrastructure is already used by surgeons to advocate for their patients, but still more opportunities for collaboration are available.
