ABSTRACT

The increase in the number of Tahfiz schools in Malaysia indicates a high demand from the community for Tahfiz education. Tahfiz schools provide a Quran memorization syllabus as the main part of the curriculum at the primary and secondary levels. There is no holistic module that combines learning and health for Tahfiz students in Malaysia. Huffaz ProHealth 1.0© Module is a health intervention module developed explicitly for Tahfiz students by a group of researchers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (UKMKL). The module encompasses educational and motivational components for the Tahfiz students, and acts as a guide for their teachers and staff to improve the students' health and quality of life. The module consists of three components: physical health, nutritional and psychological well-being. Each component is divided into several units with specific activities. The Sidek Module Development Model (SDMM) was used as a reference model. The study involved two phases: the development (Phase I) and evaluation (Phase II). In Phase I, a needs assessment was conducted among students and teachers from Tahfiz schools to evaluate their knowledge, attitude, and practice on the related topics. Meanwhile, the module's validity and feasibility were assessed by healthcare experts and Tahfiz teachers in Phase II. The item-content validity index (I-CVI), content validity value, Tool to Evaluate Materials used in Patient Education (TEMPtEd) score, and expert feedback were evaluated. In conclusion, the Huffaz ProHealth 1.0© module was successfully developed and evaluated. Strong validity values were observed in all components, indicating high suitability to be employed at Tahfiz schools.

ABSTRACT

Traditional Tahfiz institutions have poor curriculum focus and design, resulting in graduates with poor employability skills. To overcome this issue, these institutions must embrace a skill-based curriculum, particularly for culinary courses. Thus, the purpose of this study is to determine the relevant objectives, learning content, delivery method, and assessment technique for Culinary Courses offered by traditional Tahfiz institutions. Twenty Tahfiz and culinary experts were selected for the Fuzzy Delphi Method utilising a purposive sample technique. According to the findings, the experts conclusively accepted all proposed objectives and learning activities. On the other hand, only 14 items representing content of learning, two items representing teaching modes, five items representing assessment activities, and three items representing assessment levels were acceptable. Generally, these items have reached a consensus value of above 80%. In summary, the proposed curriculum design serves as a useful reference for developing graduates' employability skills in addition to their Quranic knowledge and memorising skills. However, it is recommended that future studies develop a module based on the findings of this study in order to successfully introduce Culinary Courses in traditional Tahfiz institutions.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

@#Tahfiz school is an institution that specialises in educating students to memorize and recite the whole Al-Quran. Memorizing the Al-Quran by rote learning will activate the brain to improve the brain ability to process, store information and build memory. The presence of heavy metals affects the nervous system and interferes with the function of the central and peripheral nervous system which will then cause the impairment of mental and cognitive function. The ability to learn, remember or memorize, use of language and to understand something may be disrupted and cause small decrease in IQ and attention. Cross-sectional studies was conducted to measure and to determine the correlation between the levels of heavy metals, Al-Quran memorization and intelligence (IQ) among students in selected tahfiz schools compared to non-tahfiz schools in Selangor. Levels of heavy metals in nail and hair samples were analyzed by using the Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). WASI-II test for intelligence was used to measure the student’s IQ. Questionnaires was used to obtain demographic data and was analyzed by using the SPSS version 23.0. Based on the Pearson correlation test, there was a very weak negative correlation and significant relationship between manganese in the hair samples with the level of Al-Quran memorization (r= -0.178, p=0.017). In addition, there was a weak positive correlation but significant relationship between the level of intelligence (IQ) with the level of Al-Quran memorization (r= 0.375, p=<0.001). As a conclusion, the higher the concentration of manganese will cause a decline in the level of Al-Quran memorization and the higher the level of Al-Quran memorization will cause an increase in the level of intelligence (IQ).

ABSTRACT

Tahfiz education has been well accepted by Muslims in Malaysia. Memorizing the Quran through rote learning can assistin improving the brain ability to process, store information and build memory. In addition, dietary intakes were reportedto contribute in the process of memorizing the Quran and to increase the levels of intelligence (IQ) among huffaz students. This cross-sectional study was conducted to measure and to determine the correlation between IQ and dietary intakeas well as between IQ and the level of trace elements among students in selected tahfiz schools and non-tahfiz school inSelangor. Questionnaires were used to obtain demographic data. Dietary intake was assessed via 3 days dietary record.Levels of trace elements in the nail samples were analyzed by using ICP-MS. Test for intelligence using WASI-II wasconducted to measure the students’ IQ. The results showed that there was a moderate positive correlation between IQ andcarbohydrate (r = 0.425, p < 0.001, a weak positive correlation between IQ and energy (r = 0.260, p < 0.05), vitaminB6 (r = 0.189, p < 0.05), vitamin B12 (r = 0.207, p < 0.05) and vitamin C (r = 0.211, p < 0.05). The levels of traceelements in nail samples showed no correlation with IQ, whereas there were moderate positive correlations between IQand dietary zinc (r = 0.375, p < 0.001) as well as between IQ and dietary iron (r = 0.303, p < 0.001). There was also amoderate positive correlation between IQ and the level of memorization (r = 0.375, p < 0.001). The results of stepwisemultiple linear regression showed that al-Quran memorization influence the level of IQ by 20 %. As a conclusion, dietaryintake of certain nutrients including energy, vitamins and selected trace elements can potentially improve memorizationactivities and also IQ.
