ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of life and sex roles of women diagnosed with cancer and undergoing brachytherapy. METHODS: The research is a cross-sectional descriptive study. The sample of the study included 116 women over 35 years old who were diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer and underwent intracavitary brachytherapy at the Radiation Oncology Department of a university hospital. Personal information form, SF-36 the Quality of Life Scale, and BEM Sex Role Inventory were used in the study. The researcher collected the data through face-to-face interview. The data were collected in the nurses' room after 3 different brachytherapy treatments that patients received weekly. RESULTS: It was found that the average score of the physical functioning subscale was 32.80 ± 24.33, the average score of role physical was 15.43 ± 28.78, the average score of role emotional was 17.81 ± 28.96, the average score of vitality was 39.13 ± 16.12, the average score of social functioning was 43.53 ± 20.55, the score average of pain was 50.0 ± 20.09, the average score of general health was 42.67 ± 14.61, and the general health of mental health was 55.86 ± 16.12. In the BEM sex roles scale, the average score of BEM femininity was 105.56 ± 13.95, and the average score of BEM masculinity was 80.61 ± 12.77. In our study, a very low, negative, and significant relationship was determined between the role of femininity and emotional role limitation, physical functionality, social functionality, and general health perception in the women undergoing brachytherapy (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Based on the findings of the present study, we can state that an increase in the "role of femininity" in women undergoing brachytherapy was effective in the decrease in the quality of lives of women. It can be claimed that the results will be a guidance for the nurses who will play an important role in increasing the quality of lives of the women undergoing brachytherapy.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Quality of life is a phenomenon that recently required lots of concern, especially for older adults, since healthy aging and longevity have become the focus in life. Most research on the quality of life addresses certain issues of older people having special diseases, health problems, and disorders. Our research is based on holistic quality of life empowering multiple areas of life/domains of older adults without addressing their diseases or health disorders. AIM: Our research aims at evaluating the quality of life of the research participants (older people), addressing their problematic areas and suggestions for better quality of life. METHODS: The conducted research implied mixed methods as quantitative survey and reflection based on interviews. We chose participants from the III age university and the ongoing project "Healthy Aging Program". RESULTS: The research results showed the lowest ratings for emotional and physical health and the highest rating for social health. Also, older adults tend to avoid specifying precise measures to improve their quality of life and demonstrate a more conservative stance regarding the implementation of more radical changes in improving water consumption, exercising, meal planning, and enhancing psychosocial well-being. CONCLUSIONS: The overall quality of life rating was lower than the average. Older adults are not sufficiently prepared or educated to make significant changes to develop healthier habits in their quality-of-life improvement, though, they demonstrate concern about their quality of life.

ABSTRACT

The literature indicates that patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders often show deficits in premorbid adjustment. Additionally, these impairments have been correlated with critical disease parameters, evident in both early and advanced stages. The principal objective of this study was to investigate the association between premorbid adjustment and functional outcomes a decade following the initial episode of psychosis. A cluster analysis was performed to group patients according to their premorbid adjustment scores as assessed with the Premorbid Adjustment Scale (PAS). The measurements of The Disability Assessment Scale (DAS), The Global Assessment of Function (GAF) scale, and The Quality of Life Scale (QLS) were used to compare the functionality of the groups at a 10-year follow-up. A total of 231 patients were classified into three groups based on their premorbid adjustment: "good PAS", "deteriorating PAS", and "chronically poor PAS". The three groups differed significantly in their sociodemographic and cognitive baseline characteristics. At the 10-year follow-up, "good PAS" group had better scores than the other groups in the variables of functionality and quality of life. The relationship found between premorbid adjustment and long-term functional results in patients with psychosis can help us predict the evolution of patients and act accordingly.

ABSTRACT

@#The high incidence and untreated rate of root caries, a common and frequently occurring oral disease with challenging treatment in elderly individuals, is the main cause of tooth loss among elderly people, as rapid development results in pulpitis and periapical periodontitis or residual crown and root, which has been regarded as one of the common chronic oral diseases seriously affecting the quality of life of elderly people. Thus, early intervention and prevention are important. Traditional dental materials for preventing root caries have been widely used in clinical practice; however, they have the disadvantages of tooth coloring, remineralization and low sterilization efficiency. A series of new dental materials for preventing root caries have gradually become a research hotspot recently, which have the advantages of promoting the mineralization of deep dental tissue, prolonging the action time and enhancing adhesion. Future caries prevention materials should be designed according to the characteristics of root surface caries and the application population and should be developed toward simplicity, high efficiency and low toxicity. This review describes current research regarding anti-caries prevention material application, serving as a theoretical underpinning for the research of root caries prevention materials, which is important for both promotion in the effective prevention of root caries and improvement in the status of oral health and the quality of life among old people.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a rehabilitation program combining Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western medicine, founded on the Guided Care model, in enhancing physical fitness among obese middle-aged and young stroke patients who are fitness enthusiasts. Methods: Eighty obese middle-aged and young stroke patients were randomly divided into two groups: a control group (n=40) and an intervention group (n=40). The control group received standard nursing care, while the intervention group was treated with a Guided Care model integrating TCM and Western medicine rehabilitation. The focus was on improving physical fitness parameters in addition to traditional outcomes. Parameters such as self-efficacy, family function, quality of life, and physical fitness measures were compared between the groups at admission and six months’ post-discharge. Results: After six months, the intervention group showed significantly higher improvements in disease management, medication adherence, dietary habits, daily life activities, emotional stability, social and interpersonal interactions, and rehabilitation exercise management (P < 0.01). Specifically, physical fitness levels in the intervention group markedly improved compared to the control group. The total scores for self-efficacy, family function, quality of life, and physical fitness in the intervention group were significantly higher (208.20 ± 13.58, 7.93 ± 2.53 193.05 ± 9.00, and a physical fitness score indicative of enhanced endurance and strength) than those in the control group (180.73 ± 15.52, 5.18 ± 2.60, 166.15 ± 12.05, and a lower physical fitness score) (AU)

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is a crippling, ongoing, chronic inflammatory condition. The management of these patients has been impacted by the current COVID-19 pandemic, which is still controversial. This study compared the clinical therapy outcomes and psychological scores between before and during- the epidemic. METHOD: The data of patients who were diagnosed with endometriosis in the Department of Gynecology, Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from January 2018 to December 2022 were collected. The patients were divided into pre- and intra-COVID groups. The treatment results and psychological status of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: A total of 1022 patients with endometriosis were enrolled, with a mean age of 33.16 ± 9.81 years and a BMI of 23.90 ± 3.04 kg/m2, of which 434 cases (434/1022, 42.5%) were in the pre-COVID group and 588 cases (588/1022, 57.5%) in the intra-COVID group. Both groups were well balanced for age, BMI, history of abdominopelvic surgery, family relationships, education level, and duration between initial diagnosis and admission. Compared to the Pre-COVID group, the intra-COVID group had a higher proportion of patients with chronic pelvic pain (297/434, 68.4% vs. 447/588, 76.0%, p = 0.007) and dysmenorrhea (249/434, 62.8% vs. 402/588, 70.0%, p < 0.001), more patients requiring surgery (93/434, 21.4% vs. 178/588, 30.3%, p = 0.002) and longer hospital stays (5.82 ± 2.24 days vs. 7.71 ± 2.15 days, p < 0.001). A total of 830 questionnaires were completed. In the Intra-COVID group, PHQ-2 (2 (2, 3) vs. 3 (2,4), p < 0.001), GAD-2 (2 (1, 2) vs. 3 (2, 3), p < 0.001), PHQ-4 (4 (3, 5) vs. 5 (4, 7), EHP-5 (20.26 ± 6.05 vs. 28.08 ± 7.95, p < 0.001) scores were higher than that in the pre-COVID group, while BRS (3.0 (2.2, 4.0) vs. 2.4 (1.8, 3.8), p = 0.470) were not significantly different. CONCLUSION: During the COVID-19 epidemic, patients with endometriosis may have reduced visits to the hospital, more severe related symptoms, longer length of hospital stays, and worse quality of life, with the possible cause being a disturbance in hormone levels through increased anxiety and depression. This provides a valid clinical basis for optimizing the management of patients with endometriosis and for early psychological intervention during the epidemic.

ABSTRACT

Quality of life (QoL) has been studied as an antecedent of good mental health in contexts characterized by extreme poverty and acute conflict. The covid-19 crisis exacerbated the risks of health-related consequences in such contexts. Vaccination campaigns have been started worldwide to contain the virus outbreak with high rates of hesitancy and refusal. Our exploratory study sheds light on the relationship between QoL and vaccine reluctance via mental health and fear of covid-19 in a Palestinian population affected by military occupation or socioeconomic marginalization. Who-QolBref, Fcov-19, and Dass were administered to 1122 Palestinian adults living in the occupied territories and Israel. Structural equation modelling was applied to test the relations between variables. Results showed that fear of COVID-19, stress, anxiety and depression mediated the association between QoL and vaccination reluctance with a good model fit (χ2 (5) = 828.37; p = .001; GFI=.93; AGFI=.94; RMSEA=.046; NFI=.94; CFI=.95). QoL and mental health were negatively associated with stress (ßX, Y = - .35; p < .001), depression (ßX, Y = -.37; p < .001), and anxiety (ßX, Y = -.36; p < .001). QoL and fear of COVID- 19 (ßX, Y = -.16; p < .001) were inversely correlated. A positive effects was found between stress (ßM, Y = .17; p < .001), anxiety (ßM, Y = .18; p < .001), and depression (ßM, Y = .17; p < .001), fear of COVID-19 and vaccination reluctance (ßX, Y = .23; p < .001). According to our findings, Public health measures to ease the social suffering of people with low QoL due to conflict and social marginality might favour the acceptance of the vaccine.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Obesity hypoventilation syndrome is one of the most serious outcomes of obesity-related respiratory difficulties, resulting in higher healthcare costs as well as increased cardio-respiratory morbidity and mortality. METHODS: Sixty-two males who had a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea according to the STOP-BANG Sleep Apnea Questionnaire were enrolled in the study. Their age is 50-60 years old, and they have a BMI of 35-40 kg/m2, daytime hypercapnia, and sleep breathing problems. The patients were divided into two equal groups at random reflexology fasting-mimicking diet groups. Weight, height, waist, and neck circumference were assessed at the beginning of the study and after two months of the intervention. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), which is used to evaluate sleep quality. The Maugeri Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (MOSAS) questionnaire was used to assess a patient's quality of life. RESULTS: There was a significant change in the MOSAS and PSQI questionnaires for both groups post-intervention, as the p-value was less than 0.05. The percentage change in the MOSAS questionnaire score and PSQI questionnaire was higher in the mimic diet group than in the reflexology group. Also, the mimic diet group's weight and neck circumference were considerably reduced after the intervention, with no change in the reflexology group. CONCLUSIONS: Reflexology and a fasting-mimicking diet were found to have a substantial impact on enhancing the quality of life and sleep in people with obesity hypoventilation syndrome.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This study was performed to examine the effects of selfcare and selected factors on the quality of life in women with breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). METHODS: The study was descriptive and cross-sectional and included 101 women with BCRL. Data were gathered with a descriptive characteristics questionnaire, the Lymphedema Quality of Life Scale-Arm and the Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema Selfcare Scale. Obtained data were analyzed with numbers, percentages, mean, and multiple regression analysis. RESULTS: The lowest and the highest scores of the women with lymphedema (LE) on the Lymphedema Quality of Life Scale-Arm were 35 and 71 respectively with a mean of 52.63 ± 11.81. The lowest and the highest scores to be obtained from this scale are 20 and 80 respectively. The quality of life was predicted significantly and positively by time elapsing after the diagnosis of breast cancer and significantly and negatively by time elapsing after the diagnosis of LE and selfcare (p < 0.05). Other variables did not individually affect the quality of life (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Since selfcare influences the quality of life, patients with BCRL should be given education and support for selfcare, the quality of their lives should be regularly evaluated, and interventions that enhance the quality of their lives should be conducted.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the effects of cluster nursing on self-care ability, length of hospital stay, complications and neurological function of patients with mechanical thrombectomy of large vessel occlusion in acute cerebral infarction. Methods: A total of 83 patients with acute cerebral infarction who underwent thrombolectomy in a tertiary hospital in Anhui Province from June 2019 to March 2021 were randomly divided into observation group and control group. The observation group was treated with cluster nursing intervention mode, and the control group was treated with routine nursing mode. Barthel index scores and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores were compared between the two groups at admission and at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months of nursing intervention. The length of stay and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results: There was no significant difference in baseline data, Barthel index and NIHSS score between the two groups at admission (P>0.05). The Barthel index at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after operation in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05), while the NIHSS score, incidence of complications and length of hospital stay were significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Cluster nursing can improve the neurological function, improve the self-care ability, reduce the incidence of complications, shorten the hospitalization period, improve the prognosis and promote the recovery of patients with acute cerebral infarction thrombolysis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of a comprehensive support response biofeedback program on patient recovery and quality of life after a stroke during a six-month follow-up. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One hundred poststroke patients were followed-up during six months after a course of treatment using a comprehensive program based on biofeedback on the support reaction, including stabilometric training «standing on the platform¼; training using a power joystick for a hand on a static stabilometric platform; therapeutic gymnastic exercises for the upper shoulder girdle. RESULTS: Within six months after the course of treatment, there were no statistically significant changes in the motor function of the paretic hand according to the Fugle-Meyer and Ashworth scale. In neuropsychological testing after 3 months, the indicators on MoCA, Stroop, Symbols and Numbers, Schulte, Speech Fluency, and Kohs block design tests did not show negative dynamics. There was a decrease in indicators, which did not reach the values before treatment, after 3 months according to the Digit Span test, delayed recall according to the «memorizing 10 words¼ test by A.R. Luria After 6 month, there were no changes on MoCA, Symbols and Numbers, Schulte and Kohs block design tests. The decline after 6 months was observed on Speech Fluency, Stroop, Digit Span tests and Delayed Recall on the 10-Word Memory Test. At the same time, there was a positive dynamic of indicators of emotional status, activity of daily life and functional activity after 3 and 6 months of follow-up, the indicator of the quality of life of patients improved after 6 months. CONCLUSION: Persistent therapeutic effect of the complex program carried out for 6 months was noted in relation to motor disorders in the paretic hand. There is an improvement in the emotional state, functional status, quality of life. When assessing cognitive functions, the therapeutic effect is stable for 3 months according to most scales. At the same time, the decrease in cognitive testing indicators on individual scales, in our opinion, determines the feasibility of repeated courses of treatment in three to six months in order to prevent the progression of disorders.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Intracranial haemorrhage (ICH) is associated with permanent neurological disability resulting in deterioration of the quality of life (QoL). Our study assesses QoL in patients with ruptured arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in long-term follow-up at least five years after ICH and compares their QoL with the QoL of patient with non-ruptured AVM. METHODS: Using the Quality of Life Scale (QOLS), the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) for depressive symptoms, and the socioeconomic status (SES), a prospective assessment was performed. The modified Rankin Scale (mRS) was assessed for outcome. RESULTS: Of 73 patients, 42 (57.5%) had ruptured (group 1) and 31 (42.5%) a non-ruptured AVM (group 2). Mean follow-up time was 8.6 ± 3.9 years (8.5 ± 4.2 years in group 1 and 8.9 ± 3.7 years in group 2). Favourable outcome (mRS 0-1) was assessed in 60 (83.3%) and unfavourable in 12 (16.7%) patients. Thirty-one of 42 patients (73.8%) in group 1 and 29 of 30 patients in group 2 (96.7%) had favourable outcomes. Mean QOLS was 85.6 ± 14.1 (group 1 86.1 ± 15.9, group 2 84.9 ± 11.4). Patients in group 1 did not show a significant difference in QoL compared to patients in group 2 (p = 0.23). Additional analyses in group 2 (rho = - 0.73; p < 0.01) and in untreated AVM patients (rho = - 0.81; p < 0.01) showed a strong correlation between QOLS and PHQ-9. CONCLUSION: Long-term follow-up showed no difference in the QoL between patients with and without ICH caused by brain AVM. Outcome- and QoL-scores were high in both groups. Further studies are necessary to evaluate depression and anxiety symptoms in patients with AVM.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to investigate the illness uncertainty and its influencing factors in patients after heart stent implantation, and to explore the relationship between uncertainty of disease, self-management behavior of coronary heart disease and quality of life after stenting. METHODS: A cross-sectional study of 168 patients with cardiac stent implantation on illness uncertainty in a tertiary hospital in Shanghai. The General Information Questionnaire and the Mishel's Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS) was used to measure the uncertainty of disease in patients after coronary stenting, and the Coronary Self-Management Scale (CSMS) and 36-item Short Form Health Survey Scale (SF-36) were collected, using Pearson's method for correlation analysis. The indicators with significant statistical differences in univariate analysis were included, and the factors affecting patients' perception of disease uncertainty were analyzed by stepwise regression fitting multiple linear regression equations. RESULTS: The study showed that the mean score for disease uncertainty was 79.83±14.05 out of 160 points. By the multiple stepwise linear regression analysis, the results showed that subjective symptom improvement, follow-up with nurses after discharge, care and support from family members after discharge, quality of the quantity of stents, guidance and support from nurses during hospitalization, and educational level had a significant impact on the total uncertainty score, and were the most important factor of patient illness uncertainty. In patients with coronary heart disease, uncertainty was moderately negatively correlated with self-management ability (P<0.05, r=-0.636), and highly negatively correlated with overall quality of life scores (P<0.05, r=-0.857). CONCLUSIONS: Overall, patients with coronary stents had moderate disease uncertainty, suggesting that uncertainty is common among patients after cardiac stenting. In order to improve the uncertainty of disease in patients after with heart stent implantation (especially for patients with a large number of implanted stents), family members should give sufficient care; doctors and nurses should provide patients with adequate health education, assist patients in establishing healthy behaviors, and strengthen its self-management ability, thereby reducing the patient's sense of uncertainty, thereby improving the long-term prognosis and the patient's quality of life.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To analyze the occurrence of complications and evaluate the quality of life in patients who got less-invasive treatment methods using endovenous laser ablation of varicose veins of the lower extremities in the early and late postoperative periods. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The study was conducted with the participation of 100 patients treated in 2019-2020 by one team of surgeons for varicose veins of the lower extremities with symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency C2-C4 (CEAP classification). Depending on the performance of endovenous surgical interventions, all patients were divided into two study groups. RESULTS: Results: In assessing the quality of life associated with health, according to the CIVIQ 2 questionnaire, it was found that in the presence of varicose veins in the superficial veins of the lower extremities, indicators decrease both in general and on all studied scales (pain, physical, psychological and social). However, when using endovenous laser ablation without miniphlebectomy, after 6 months of observation, recurrence of varicose veins of the lower extremities was noted, which was not observed in patients of the first group. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The use of less-invasive interventions with ultrasound guidance positively affects patients' quality of life with varicose veins of the lower extremities, both in the early and prolonged postoperative periods.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of a hydroxyapatite toothpaste containing a Polyol Germanium Complex with threonine in treating dentine hypersensitivity. The study also seeks to monitor the quality of life of the treated dentine hypersensitivity sufferers. Materials and methods: This study is a randomized clinical trial with a total of 120 patients with dentine hypersensitivity. All participants were divided into three groups: patients assigned to the GARDA SILK toothpaste; patients receiving the conventional fluoride toothpaste for comparison purposes, and patients asked to brush their teeth without toothpaste. The modified Quigley-Heine Plaque Index was assessed at the baseline and after treatment. Sensitivity was assessed at baseline, 3, 7 and 14 days using the air stimulus (Schiff Index). The impact of dentine hypersensitivity on the quality of life was assessed before and after the treatment with the Russian version of the Dentine Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ). Results: After 14 days of treatment, the mean Plaque Index scores in Groups 1 and 2 did not exceed 1 and averaged 0.72 ± 0.249 and 0.86 ± 0.213, respectively. In Group 3, the mean Plaque Index was significantly higher (1.04 ± 0.070, p < 0.05). The mean Schiff sensitivity scores in Group 1 decreased to 2.45 ± 0.42 at 3 days, 1.84 ± 0.26 at 7 days, and 1.02 ± 0.34 at 14 days. Group 2 exhibited smaller reductions in the Schiff index at all time points. In this group, Schiff scores dropped to 2.67 ± 0.28 after 3 days, 2.34 ± 0.44 after 7 days, and 1.93 ± 0.36 after 14 days. Conclusion: The GARDA SILK hydroxyapatite toothpaste with a threonine-containing Polyol Germanium Complex (PGC) is effective in maintaining good oral hygiene, reducing dentine hypersensitivity, and improving the quality of life of dentine hypersensitivity sufferers.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The number of Parkinson's patients (PD) undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is increasing. The purpose of the study was to characterize quality of life (QOL) outcomes for patients with coexisting PD and knee osteoarthritis (KOA) following TKA. METHODS: Patients with coexisting PD and KOA undergoing TKA between June 2014 and June 2020 were included. These patients were matched to controls with KOA alone by age, gender, basic social background information and Knee society score (KSS). The primary measure was to assess the QOL by the absolute changes in the EuroQOL5-Dimensions (EQ-5D), Pain and Disability Questionnaire (PDQ), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9) at the last follow-up (LFU). Secondary measures were changes in QOL that exceeded the minimum clinically important difference value (MCID). Data on the health status and QOL of all patients were collected. Simple and multivariate regression analysis was used to evaluate the impact of PD on their QOL. RESULTS: Twelve KOA patients with PD were compared with 48 controls. Control patients experienced QOL improvement across all three measures:EQ-5D index (0.545-0.717, P < 0.01), PDQ (81.1-52.3, P < 0.01) and PHQ-9(8.22-5.91, P < 0.01) were significantly improved at the LFU; while in patients with PD, only PDQ (91.0-81.4, P = 0.03) slightly improved. There were significant differences in the improvement of QOL between PD patients and the control group through EQ-5D (0.531 vs.0.717, P < 0.01) and PDQ (81.4vs.52.3, P < 0.01) at the LFU. CONCLUSION: TKA has no benefit of QOL beyond a slight improvement in pain-related disability in the KOA patients with PD.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the clinical efficacy of Nd: YAG laser combined with 3% acyclovir cream in the treatment of herpes labialis. @* Methods @# A total of 72 patients with herpes labialis were enrolled. According to the random number table method, the patients were divided into an observation group and a control group with 36 patients in the observation group and 36 patients in the control group. The Nd: YAG laser combined with 3% acyclovir cream was administered to the observation group, while 3% acyclovir cream was administered to the control group. The total effective rate, scab, scab removal, analgesic time, and quality of life were compared between the two groups.@*Results@# 7 days after treatment, the total effective rate of clinical treatment in the control group was 27 patients (75%), and that in the observation group was 34 patients (94.4%); the contrast difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Compared with those in the control group, the crusting, prolapse and analgesic time of the observation group were shorter, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the observation group had higher quality of life scores, and there was a statistical significance (P < 0.05). @*Conclusion @#For patients with herpes labialis, using Nd: YAG laser combined with 3% acyclovir cream treatment can significantly improve the quality of life of patients and accelerate the speed of patient rehabilitation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim: Study of psychological factors and consequences of psychosocial stress which is formed during the COVID-19 pandemic. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: In the research, we used methods: developed a common, assessment of psychosocial stress L. Reeder scale, assessment of distress R.Kessler, assessment of the presence of manifestations of anxiety-depressive response GAD-7, depression self-assessment scale PHQ-9, method of assessing neuropsychological adaptation I. Gurvich, assessment of psychosocial support D. Ziemet, the scale of assessment of family anxiety E. Eidemiller, W. Justickis, strategies for stress-coping behavior E. Heim, methods of assessing the quality of life A.A. Pushkarev, N.G. Arinchina (2000). The current factors of the impact of coronavirus on the mental state of the population have been investigated. The study involved 823 citizens of Ukraine, who filled out the developed Google form. RESULTS: Results: Threats of coronavirus disease, violation of the usual life stereotype, restriction of leisure activity, harmful interest in news about the pandemic, usage of tobacco plays an important role in the mechanisms of distress formation. These conditions raise the risk of increased stress, anxiety and depression. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The investigations carried out suggested that the quarantine restrictions could be predisposing factors for mental health impairments. Under these conditions, risks of increased stress pressure, anxiety, and depression are rising. Measures on psycho-prevention should be performed on the base of the regularities identified.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the nursing effect of continuous blood purification therapy in the treatment of severe sepsis patients. METHODS: A total of 142 patients with severe sepsis in our hospital were divided into two groups, 70 patients in the experimental group who received an optimize nursing plan, while 72 patients in the control group were given routine nursing intervention. The SF-36 questionnaire, nursing satisfaction and serious adverse events and complications were collected. RESULTS: The nursing intervention effect of the two groups after intervention were improved before intervention (P<0.05), and the patient's quality of life between the two groups (SF-36 questionnaire) in the experimental group was increased compared to that of the control group after nursing intervention. The nursing satisfaction scores of the experimental group were obviously improved after receiving optimize nursing intervention, and the scores in the experimental group were much higher than in the control group after receiving the intervention, namely (P<0.05). Moreover, the occurrence of serious adverse events and complications in the experimental group was decreased compared to that in the control group, especially the occurrence of acid base imbalance (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The patients with severe sepsis who received continuous blood purification therapy and optimized nursing intervention had shortened ICU hospitalization time, reduced mortality and complication rates, and improved nursing satisfaction and quality of life.
