ABSTRACT

A drug dataset containing international proprietary names is essential for researchers investigating different drugs from different countries worldwide. However, many websites on the internet offer free access for a single drug searching service to identify international drug trade names, but not for a list of drugs to be searched and identified. Therefore, it will be problematic if the researcher has a list of hundreds or thousands of drug trade names to be identified. In this project, we have created an International Drug Dictionary (IDD) by curating collected drug lists from open access websites belonging to official drug regulatory agencies, official healthcare systems, or recognized scientific bodies from 44 countries around the world in addition to the European public assessment reports (EPAR) and the DRUGBANK vocabulary published in the public domain. Researchers interested in pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, or pharmacoeconomics can benefit from this dataset, especially when identifying lists of proprietary drug names, particularly of multi-national origin. To enhance its adaptability, we also mapped the IDD to the standardized drug vocabulary RxNorm. The IDD can also be used as a tool for mapping international drug trade names to RxNorm. Each drug entity in the IDD mapped to a unique identification number for each entity called Atom Unique Identifier (RXAUI) from RxNorm.

ABSTRACT

The Stone (limestone) and Marble (trade name) Industry (SMI) is one of the most important and active industries in Palestine, as being economically and financially rewarding and greatly beneficial to the public and private sectors. This industry, which employs about 15,000-20,000 workers, contributes 20-25% to the total industrial revenues of Palestine, and 4.5% to the total gross national product. Despite its benefits, SMI has adverse effects on public health, the environment, biodiversity, water systems (both surface and underground), green cover, and ecosystems in general, as it is considered one of the most air- water-, soil-, and noise-polluting sources. To achieve the purpose of this research paper, available data and literature are analyzed, evaluated, and used, in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the status of SMI, in light of sustainable development. This relates to various perspectives, including limestone geology, geopolitics, socioeconomics, culture, technology, legislation, as well as climate change, acid rain, and harmful effects of the SMI scale on public health and safety, environmental well-being, and challenges facing the industry. Two field studies, carried out in northern and southern West Bank, dealing with particulate matter (PM1, PM2.5, PM7, PM10, and TSP) and environmental pollution, were analyzed, and their results were compared with each other, as well as with the World Health Organization's (WHO) guidelines. It is found that both West Bank's areas are heavily polluted, resulting in considerable adverse impacts on public health, the environment, and green cover. Based on the findings of this paper, it is recommended that SMI should properly adhere to WHO guidelines and international standards to make the industry safer and more durable and sustainable, with fewer negative impacts on public health, the environment, and green cover.

ABSTRACT

DNA-like molecules called antisense oligonucleotides have opened new treatment possibilities for genetic diseases by offering a method of regulating gene expression. Antisense oligonucleotides are often used to suppress the expression of mutated genes which may interfere with essential downstream pathways. Since antisense oligonucleotides have been introduced for clinical use, different chemistries have been developed to further improve efficacy, potency, and safety. One such chemistry is a chimeric structure of a central block of deoxyribonucleotides flanked by sequences of modified nucleotides. Referred to as a gapmer, this chemistry produced promising results in the treatment of genetic diseases. Mipomersen and inotersen are examples of recent FDA-approved antisense oligonucleotide gapmers used for the treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia and hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis, respectively. In addition, volanesorsen was conditionally approved in the EU for the treatment of adult patients with familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) in 2019. Many others are being tested in clinical trials or under preclinical development. This chapter will cover the development of mipomersen and inotersen in clinical trials, along with advancement in gapmer treatments for cancer, triglyceride-elevating genetic diseases, Huntington's disease, myotonic dystrophy, and prion diseases.

ABSTRACT

There is an increased risk of medication error and harm to a patient whenever 2 or more drug product names appear alike in sound, look, or meaning. Any ambiguity of the proprietary name ("trade" or "brand" name) of a drug product can lead to errors in ordering, dispensing, or administering medication. A drug's name is a critical identifier, and correct product identification is important to the responsible administration of medicine. This article describes a series of tools created for regulatory reviewers to enhance the review of proprietary names under current federal regulations, with the goal of encouraging further innovation toward the goal of medication safety. These tools include measures of orthographic, phonetic, and semantic similarities and are designed be used together with the existing computerized measures of similarity. It is the hope that highlighting the importance of medication error reporting for the safety review process will further encourage health care professionals to provide adequate and detailed reporting regarding medication errors, which will lead to improvements in the overall safety review process.

ABSTRACT

Objective:The purpose of this study was to improve teaching quality of pharmacology by integrating different form of clinical knowledge. Methods:We tried to add the clinical documents such as some related videos and pictures, many common drugs' trade-names and analysis of typical cases into teaching of pharmacology in undergraduate course in our college. Results:Both the theory examination scores and ability of aggregate analysis of cases were higher in the experiment groups than in the controlled ones. And the students considered that the teaching mode with clinical knowledge could stir up their interest in learning pharmacology and increase teaching effect. Conclusion:The teaching mode of incorporating clinical knowledge into pharmacology would be helpful to improve teaching quality of pharmacology.

ABSTRACT

Objective To deal with the inconvenience that doctors have to use current name but not trade name in writing the prescription after the institutional reform of medicine. Methods To meet the system requirement, the generating method of drug phoneticized code was altered in our hospital.Result The problem was solved by defining one item with multiple codes,i.e.one name with multiple codes or one code with multiple names. Conclusion With source program untouched, this method is simple and feasible in practical application.
