ABSTRACT

Duplication of the stomach is a rare congenital disease of the childhood. We report the exceptional manifestation in two adults. The clinical presentation and developmental theory is discussed by reviewing the literature. Today the therapy of choice is resection of the duplication with removal of the adjacent wall of the stomach.

ABSTRACT

We describe a patient with a large diverticulum of the gastric fundus disclosed by an episode of epigastric pain. Hematemesis occurred, requiring surgical removal of the diverticulum. Gastric diverticula are uncommon embryologic anomalies that are usually asymptomatic. Surgical treatment is necessary if a complication develops.

ABSTRACT

A review with a classification of congenital defects involving the stomach is presented. Owing to the fact that in certain lesions there are so few case reports available for study, the etiology and true nature of these defects remains unknown. It is incumbent upon the surgical community to continue to document congenital anomalies of the stomach and report them accordingly.

ABSTRACT

Malformations of the stomach are rare, their complications can be very dangerous in infancy. Clinical picture and diagnosis are discussed using 5 own cases (one 2-years-old girl with membraneous atresia, one 3-day-old boy with pylorus atresia, one 2-years-old boy with bleeding diverticulum of the stomach and a newborn with tubular hypoplasia (i.e. microgastria)). The treatment of these malformations is always surgical. Only cases of membraneous stenosis of the stomach may be treated endoscopically.
