ABSTRACT

The efficiency of preventive oral antibiotic therapy before the root channel filling was evaluated in 78 patients with granulating and granulomatous chronic periodontitis. Positive clinical changes were observed after lincomycin or rondomycin therapy (p = 0.017). The number of complaints was also less in the latter group (p > 0.05). The incidence of x-ray restoration of periapical foci of bone tissue destruction during 6 and 12 months was significantly higher (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01) after preventive treatment with lincomycin or rondomycin, characterized by potent osteotropic effects (decontamination with rondomycin 81.8%, with lincomycin 70.3% vs. 31.0% without decontamination therapy).

ABSTRACT

An examination of 163 females suffering from habitual miscarriage revealed chlamydia in 41.7%. The miscarriage rate was 59.1% inChlamydia infection. All the females recovered from Chlamydia infection delivered in term. Antichlamydial agents should be supplemented as part of combined therapy of habitual abortion in patients with Chlamydia infection.

ABSTRACT

A case of a male patient with bronchopneumonia incorrectly treated for a long time with methacycline (rondomycin), an oxytetracycline drug, is reported. methacycline was applied in a dose of 8 capsules daily (2 capsules 4 times) in the course of 2 1/2 months, the total dose amounting to about 150 g. The patient developed severe toxic hepatitis as a result of this incorrect treatment. The hepatitis was manifested by jaundice and cytolysis. The bone marrow was also affected--hypoplasia marked by combined depression of leuko-, erythro- and thrombopoiesis and peripheral pancytopenia. In addition chloramphenicol treatment was applied which increased the toxic impairment of the liver and the bone marrow. The liver and bone marrow impairment are most probably due to the direct toxic action of methacycline applied for a very long time in an unusually high dose.

ABSTRACT

Bioavailability of methacycline capsules manufactured by two different firms was studied and it was shown that they had statistically significant differences. Conditions for investigation of the rate of methacycline transfer from the pharmaceutical form into solution were developed with the use of a "rotating basket". Such investigations provided in vitro prediction of the drug bioavailability. The effect of additives on bioavailability of methacycline capsules was found. Study of bioavailability of doxycycline capsules manufactured by the same two firms revealed no differences.

ABSTRACT

In addition to the preoperative treatment of acute dacryocystitis local administration of tri-methacycline proved to be of benefit in cases of endophthalmitis consequent to injury. Its subconjunctival administration is the therapy of choice for serpentic ulcers of the cornea.

ABSTRACT

Tri-metacycline, one of the new tetracycline complexes (tritetracyclines), is prepared by mere dissolution of metacycline hydrochloride in an aqueous solution of the complexing agent. In vitro and in vivo studies show a high antibiotic activity. Significantly lower MIC values were found for tri-metacycline than for the parent compound. Parenteral administration resulted in high sera and tissue values, without signs of accumulation; excretion via the kidneys was proved.
