Reflexões sobre o uso da nomenclatura "medicina tradicional" pela Naturologia / Reflections on using the term "Tradicional Medicine" by Naturology

Objetivou-se com esse trabalho ampliar as discussões conceituais sobre a Naturologia, problematizando a questão do uso do termo tradicional aplicado às medicinas e práticas em saúde usadas por naturólogos no Brasil, questão essa que foi levantada no IV Fórum Conceitual de Naturologia, em 2013, mas que não foi aprofundada. Na primeira seção desse texto se fez uma revisão da literatura sobre o termo tradição. Na segunda parte se apresentaram os estudiosos contrários ao uso do termo medicinas tradicionais no Ocidente, as quais, grosso modo, declaram que o que é tradicional em outras partes do mundo não pode necessariamente ser considerado como tradicional no Brasil. Na terceira seção se apresentaram os argumentos favoráveis ao uso da terminologia, pautando-se na noção de eficácia simbólica de Lévi-Strauss e a característica de que as práticas não hegemônicas em saúde devolvem a dimensão simbólica ao processo de cura, o que as tornaria ­ e também a Naturologia, por si própria ­, tradicionais.(AU)

The objective of this study is to expand the conceptual discussions about Naturology, problematizing the issue of using the term traditional applied to medicines and health practices used by naturologists in Brazil, an issue which had been pointed out in the Fourth Conceptual Forum of Naturology, in 2013, but that had not been detailed. In the first section of this paper a literature review about the term tradition medicine in the West, which, grosso modo, state that what is traditional in other parts of the world may not be necessarily be reffered as traditional in Brazil. The third section presented the favorable arguments on the used of this terminology, based on Lévi-Strauss' notion of symbolic efficacy and the non-hegemonic characteristic of health practices of returning the symbolic dimension to the healing process, which would make them - as well as the Naturology by itself - traditional.(AU)

[Natural healing methods versus alternative medicine--attempt at a distinction]. / Naturheilverfahren versus Alternativmedizin--Versuch einer Abgrenzung.

In this decade we can realize--especially in Europe--that many patients turn their back on established medicine and want to undergo alternative medicine. Alternative medicine is often mixed up with natural medicine, although classical natural medicine is very different from alternative medicine and is a part of established medicine. This paper gives a survey of the important methods of natural medicine on one side and of alternative medicine on the other side including their difference.
