ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The three-dimensional(3D)digital technology has brought a revolutionary change in diagnostic planning and treatment strategy of orthodontics. Acquisition of 3D image data of the hard and soft tissues of the patients, diagnostic analysis and treatment prediction, and ultimately the individualized orthodontic appliance, will become the development trend and workflow of the 3D orthodontics. With the development of 3D digital technology, the traditional plaster model has been gradually replacing by 3D digital models. Meanwhile, 3D facial soft tissue scan and cone-beam CT scan have been gradually applied to clinical orthodontics, making it possible to get 3D virtual anatomical structure for patients. With the help of digital technology, the diagnostic process is much easier for orthodontist. However how to command the whole digital workflow and put it into practice in the daily work is still a long way to go. The purpose of this article is to enlighten the orthodontists interested in digital technology and discuss the future of digital orthodontics in China.

ABSTRACT

In this context, the objective was to describe the effects of treatment with Invisalign, the degree of motivation of patients and the relationship between other orthodontic mechanics. The study was carried keywords Invisalign, treatment outcomes, aesthetics, malocclusion in Pubmed, obtaining 93 results. We selected 16 articles (2004-2014) based on titles and abstracts. These, twelve consisted in clinical studies and four in case reports. One study showed that professional experience may be related to the success rate of treatment with aligners. Regarding Clincheck, two studies demonstrated greater accuracy during lingual constriction or rotation of canines. Two studies found that procedures such as interproximal wear and protrusion, lead to better treatments submissions. Comparing orthodontic techniques, three studies demonstrated that the Invisalign system obtained good results in leveling of the arches, but the conventional treatment or self-ligated provide greater benefits for the correction of malocclusion and greater stability in the post-treatment. Two studies highlighted that the lingual braces and fixed appliance provided higher levels of pain, compared to aligners. Four case reports showed that the use of accessories and performing interproximal reduction may favor to correct crowding, overbite and overjet. In short, studies have shown that the Invisalign system has many advantages, however it is necessary that the technique is correctly indicated...

ABSTRACT

The advances in the field of materials as they relate to orthodontics can be divided into the actual evolution of materials applied to daily practice and the changes in research methods to study the performance and the biologic properties of the materials. Although it is evident that new materials have saturated the market during the past century, the basic concepts of attaching one appliance to the enamel to use as a grip and inserting wires into that to control the spatial orientation of a tooth are identical to the original concepts. In contrast to that, the numbers of treatises about those subjects and the complexity of instrumentation and analytic tools used in published research have advanced tremendously and at a frenetic pace. This highly specialized pattern of research may effectively raise boundaries across research areas, since the complexity of the issues allows researchers to comprehend the content of journal articles in a narrow spectrum of disciplines. The purposes of this article were to review the advances in the research methods for investigating the various properties of orthodontic materials and to assist the reader in navigating this topic. A synopsis of the materials is also provided, listing future applications that already exist at the experimental stage or are yet unavailable but with the relevant technology already presented in broader scientific disciplines.

ABSTRACT

The vast amount of publications existing in the multiple scientific literature information sources and the lack of available time to consult them, have encouraged the authors of this paper to carry out a review of the scientific literature published in year 2010 regarding Oral Implantology. Thus, we classified the articles into different topics (guided bone regeneration, sinus lift and other special techniques, growing factors, zigomatic implants, orthodontic implants and complications), so a more comprehensive updating can be made

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of life-style practices in adolescents and their association with nickel allergy. Upper secondary school pupils (n = 4,376; 15-23 years) were patch-tested for nickel aller-gy, follow-ing completion of a questionnaire (answered by 6,095). Almost 86% girls and 21% of boys reported piercing. More girls (6%) than boys (3%) had a tattoo. Twenty-six percent of the girls and 18% of the boys were regular smokers. Vegetarian/vegan diets were reported by 20% of girls and by 6% of boys. Piercing, female gender, and vocational programme increased the risk of nickel allergy, whereas orthodontic appliance treat-ment prior to piercing reduced the risk of nickel allergy. Pupils in vocational programmes had the highest prevalence of nickel allergy. Lifestyle behaviours are interconnected and cluster in subgroups of adolescents. Female sex, piercing and choice of educational programme are prominent lifestyle markers. A trend shift is observed, where more girls than boys report tattooing.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and compare, in vitro, the decrease in the forces delivered in three groups of elastomeric chains, produced by the same manufacturer, according to the distance between links (short, medium, long). METHODS: The segments of elastomeric chains were stretched and kept activated during the trial using a device developed especially for this purpose, which also allowed force readings. Force degradation was evaluated by measuring force along time and calculating the percentage of force decrease from initial force at each time interval and for each specimen under test. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Data were statistically analyzed and results showed that at the different time points after initial readings, force intensity varied within and between groups. Readings of remaining forces at each time moment compared with the initial reference force revealed statistically significant differences in all the comparisons in each group of elastics (short, medium, long). Although the comparisons between forces delivered at each time point revealed statistically significant differences, these differences do not seem to have a clinical significance. The space between links does not seem to be a clinically significant characteristic in force degradation along time.
