ABSTRACT
When the Ministry of Education and Health was established in Brazil in 1930, the National Department of Public Health became a part of it. The National Department of Public Health was reorganized as a central technical organization and a special section for federally maintained hospitals was set up, the work in the Federal Capital was completely reorganized and health centers were established, thereby extending federal activities and influence throughout the States of Brazil. In 1937 the Department was organized into Divisions of Public Health, Hospital Assistance, Relief to Psychopaths, and Mother and Child Welfare. In order to carry out the work better, Brazil was divided into regions with a Health "Delegacia" in each as a coordinating center of Federal and State activities. In 1941 another reform in the National Health Department brought health activities throughout the country even closer. Today, besides the Oswaldo Cruz Institute, the Department includes two divisions, twelve services and seven Federal "Delegacias." The Divisions are Health Organization and Hospital Organization and the Services are Plague, Yellow Fever, Malaria, Port Sanitation, Viral Statistics, Health Education, Mental Diseases, Cancer, Drug Control, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Administration. The Division of Health Organization has 5 sections; Health Administration, Communicable Diseases, Sanitary Engineering, ...(AU)
