[Sodium hypochlorite in the treatment of the suppurative-septic complications in patients with strangulated hernias]. / Natriia gipokhlorit v lechenii gnoino-septicheskikh oslozhnenii u bol'nykh s ushchemlennymi gryzhami.

The article presents an analysis of surgical treatment of 2155 patients with incarcerated hernias of the anterior abdominal wall. Pyo-septic complications took place in 24.3%. A comparison of results of treatment by traditional methods with those using solution of sodium hypochlorite (indirect electrochemical oxidation of blood) has shown that in the group of patient treated with sodium hypochlorite lethality was reduced from (18.8 +/- 0.2)% to (11.2 +/- 0.2)%, the amount of suppuration of the operative wound was 1.8 times less and the average number of bed-days was (4.5 +/- 0.2) less.

[Late results of surgical treatment of perforated pyloroduodenal ulcers]. / Otdalennye rezul'taty khirurgicheskogo lecheniia bol'nykh s perforativnymi piloroduodenal'nymi iazvami.

The results of treatment of 171 patient operated on for perforative pyloroduodenal ulcer in follow-up of up to 12 years are analysed. After closure of a perforative ulcer, the bad result was noted in 51.6% of the patients. The performance of the different types of vagotomy contributed to stable recovery in 88.3% of the patients.

Vagotomy is recommended by the author for the treatment of peptic ulcers. Vagotomy in combination with operations on the stomach and without them was used in 92 of 148 patients operated upon for the ulcer perforation. Lethality following suturing of the perforation hole was 7.7%, following vagotomy and the elimination of the perforation hole it was 1,1%. On the basis of the data obtained the author recommends vagotomy for the treatment of gastroduodenal ulcers complicated by perforation.
