RESUMEN

UNLABELLED: The main aim of this study is to present a virtual method for tumor temperature distribution by using finite element analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: First step is geometrical synthesis that means tumor and neighbor structures three-dimensional reconstruction using CT sections; the second represent temperature and material synthesis: temperature values application and tissues density, thermal conductivity, specific heat values application, then finite element analysis. RESULTS: Finite element analysis indicate tumor temperature distribution with maximum and minimum values as a result of microwave hyperthermia treatment.

RESUMEN

AIM: To present the physical treatment parameters of superficial hyperthermia device that may be used in cancer treatment in association with radiotherapy. MATERIAL AND METHODS: First step is to present the way to measure continuous temperature, the deep and surface temperature distribution obtained by using hyperthermia device. Second step is to describe the experimental protocol. RESULTS: Some physical parameters were obtained by measuring the temperature on the experimental phantom: deep penetration and superficial distribution. These values help to evaluate the useful therapeutic surface and optimal deep penetration of the treatment temperature.

RESUMEN

AIM: The main aim of this study was to present a way of designing a hyperthermia device based on microwaves, which will be used for cancer treatment in association with radiotherapy. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A hyperthermia device with two parts - the electrical part and the mechanical support--was built. The surface temperature distribution was evaluated using a plastic material with micro-pockets filled with water. RESULTS: The experimental results were obtained by measuring the temperature in each micro-pocket. These values helped to evaluate the surface temperature distribution and to delimit the region with useful temperature.

RESUMEN

The data concerning the influence of old age and locally advanced stages on breast cancer treatment and outcome are lacking or sparse. The authors reviewed treatment modalities in women over 65 years old with locally advanced breast cancer. The purpose of the study is to determine if differences in treatment modalities, clinical stage and pathological type influence the outcome. For patients with locally advanced disease but without over evidence of metastatic disease, radical surgical procedures should be attempted. Most study results confirm that loco-regional therapy and adjuvant chemohormonotherapy is feasible and safe even for older patients.

RESUMEN

Breast lesions with malignant potential are the morphological expression of tissular troubles, foregoing the in situ cancer and then invasive. Breast dysplasia, like fibro-cystic mastosis with typical epithelial ducto-lobular proliferation can progress in a relatively long time interval towards in situ carcinoma. Classical advising, that any breast masses should be regarded as a potential cancer, until it's nature is not pathologically characterized, still remains actual. The clinical and imaging diagnosis for mastopathy at risk and the approaches for a therapeutic manner represent today a real possibility for early treatment.

RESUMEN

The radiation treatment of benign hypertrophic and hyperplastic, inflammatory and degenerative pathologic processes is nowadays less often used, due to pharmacological advances or to the arrival of newer low-risk therapeutic procedures. Radiotherapy of benign tumors in certain positions is mainly a special indication. Radiotherapy will be used in principle, when all other treatment means have been consumed. An appropriate procedure is necessary, considering the physical factors of radiation: quality, doses, administration timing and in the same time the radiosensitive organs and a careful radioprotection.

RESUMEN

The radiotherapy of lung cancer with curative total doses (56-60 Gy), is limited by the presence of critical organs (esophagus, spinal cord). The use of computed TPS (Therapy Planning System) allows to the radiotherapist to calculate the values and to obtain dose distribution to the organs at risk, in the limit of biological tolerance levels. In our work, we present the calculation of the absorbed doses of Co60, at the spinal cord, at a patient with a cancer of the right lung, during irradiation.

RESUMEN

In classical irradiation, the local control can be negatively influenced by the accelerated clonogenic tumoral repopulation. A modality of control of this phenomenon can be accelerated hyperfractionated irradiation. The aim of this paper is the study of the effect of this type of irradiation in soft tissue sarcomas on patients of the Radiological-Oncological Clinic Iasi. Accelerated hyperfractionated irradiation causes a favorable response in the primary tumor with good local tolerance, but the "free of disease" period depends on the aim of irradiation (preoperative, postoperative or single therapeutical procedure).

RESUMEN

Radiotherapy has a well-established role in palliative care of patients with cancer. It is a local treatment of short duration, the number of fractions should be kept to a minimum without loss of efficacy. Radiotherapy can control superior vena caval obstruction, spinal cord compression, brain metastases, painful bone metastases, and tumor-related bleeding.

RESUMEN

Cancer of the cervix presents an increasing incidence and mortality in advanced stages. Failure of treatment consists in local recurrence, continuation of evolution or in distant metastasis. One of the strategies of improving the treatment response is the association of radiosensitization chemotherapy with irradiation. The aim of this paper is the study of the effect of cisplatin administration simultaneously with radiotherapy of primary cancer of the cervix and recurrences. This association has proved to be favourable as regards immediate and short period local control with an acceptable digestive and hematologic tolerance (gr. I-II).

RESUMEN

The age-group distribution, risk factors, histopathological aspects, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of 111 diagnosed and/or treated cervical carcinomas in women aged up to 40 years out of 478 cases with the same diagnosis were reviewed. It is considered that the incidence of 23.2% in this series is situated at the extreme of the high frequencies reported in the literature. Nineteen per cent of the cases were diagnosed in stages O and Ia, a well organize program for early detection being required. In our series, the 5-year survival rate was 73.3%. This finding, although in a small series of cases, supports the opinion that age has no influence upon the prognosis of this disease.

RESUMEN

The psychoanalytic direction in psychopathology is considered to be necessary as an explanation of concept and methodology for the medical training concerning the study and the care of mental diseases. Irrespective of certain controverted opinions on the fund of concepts of psychoanalysis the consideration of a strict terminology belonging to this direction is necessary. In this respect a concise explanation of the meanings of a set of terms in the comments on some psychopathological states is useful.

RESUMEN

The study is based on 35 cases of thyroid cancer treated by external radiotherapy. The analysis of these cases and especially their grouping on clinical stages according to the recent TNM classification reveal the prognostic importance of such factors as the patients' age, histopathological form and the loco-regional and at distance spread.
