RESUMEN

Salicylaldehyde works as an efficient photocatalyst for the intermolecular transalkylation of phthalimide. The well-designed dimethyl N-hydroxyphthalimide ester proves to be a good alkylation reagent. It inhibits the competing intramolecular alkylation of alkylating reagent, enabling the site-specific synthesis of N-substituted phthalimide.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of liquid dressing and ostomy powder on the treatment of incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD). METHODS: The authors searched PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI (China National Knowledge Internet), and Google Scholar databases for literature through July 28, 2022. After literature screening, two investigators independently extracted data from the included studies and applied the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale to assess the quality of the included studies. The χ2-based Q statistic test and the I2 statistic were used to measure the heterogeneity of the included studies. Publication bias was measured with funnel plots and the Egger test. Sensitivity analysis was conducted by eliminating each study one by one. RESULTS: Four high-quality studies were included in the meta-analysis, involving a total of 307 participants. The meta-analysis results showed that compared with traditional care, treatment with liquid dressing and ostomy powder significantly improved the effective rate (pooled odds ratio, 21.42; 95% CI, 8.58 to 53.44), shortened the healing time (pooled mean difference, -10.73; 95% CI, -12.92 to -8.54), and reduced the recurrence rate (pooled mean difference, -2.03; 95% CI, -2.30 to -1.77) of IAD. Among the included studies, no publication bias was detected. Sensitivity analysis results confirmed the robustness of the pooled estimates. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment with liquid dressing and ostomy powder has clinical value for patients with IAD.

RESUMEN

An iron-catalyzed direct aerobic α,ß-dehydrogenation of carbonyls has been reported. The combination of tert-butyl nitrite and N-hydroxyphthalimide worked as the organo cocatalyst system; thus, no extra transition metal reagents are required. A large variety of lactams and flavanones as well as lactone and thiochromen-4-one could be produced via this method in high yields.

RESUMEN

CBZ6, a redox-neutral non-donor-acceptor-type organo-photocatalyst, presents a strong reductive potential with an oxidative potential of -2.16 V (vs SCE). It can work as a photosensitizer for both single-electron transfer and triplet energy transfer processes. This feature enables site-selective control in the intramolecular hydroarylation of acrylamides. Both 5-exo-trig and 6-endo-trig cyclization products could be prepared regiospecfically under mild conditions. No transition metal, halogen-containing reagents, or additional reductant or oxidant is involved. This process provides a concise and environmentally sustainable access to a series of oxindoles and dihydroquinolinones.

RESUMEN

The homogeneous/heterogeneous catalyst combination of VO2+ in anolyte with Pd/C at the anode is first introduced in a formic acid fuel cell to enhance HCOOH electrooxidation. The VO2+/Pd catalyst combination establishes a stepwise reaction pathway involving HCOOH dehydrogenation to form V3+ from VO2+ reduction and subsequent V3+ electrooxidation to regain VO2+. The fuel cell with the VO2+/Pd combination presents a peak power density of 341.3 mW cm-2 and stable power density higher than 30 mW cm-2.

RESUMEN

Background: To explore the key genes, biological functions, and pathways of empagliflozin in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) through network pharmacology. Methods: The TCMSP (a traditional Chinese medicine system pharmacology database and analysis platform) was used to screen empagliflozin's active components and targets. The target genes of T2DM were screened according to the GeneCards and OMIM databases, and a Venn diagram was constructed to obtain the target for T2DM treatment. Cytoscape 3.7.2 software was adopted to construct the drug-component-target-disease network. Functional annotation of Gene Ontology (GO) and enrichment analysis of Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways were performed using R software. Results: Target genes with a probability >0 were selected, among which Compound 012, Compound 060, Compound 093, Compound 111, and Compound 119 Swiss Target Prediction suggested that no similar active substances or predictable target genes were found. A "compound-target gene-disease" network was constructed, in which SLC5A2, SLC5A1, SLC5A4, SLC5A11, ADK, and ADORA2A were the core genes of T2DM. The key factors of the GO summary map included chemical reaction, membrane organelle, protein binding, and so on. The KEGG pathway summary map included the AMPK pathway, insulin resistance, the MAPK pathway, longevity-related pathway regulation, and so on. The top 10 pathways were endocrine resistance, the NF-κB signaling pathway, the HIF-1 signaling pathway, apoptosis, cell senescence, the Ras signaling pathway, the MAPK signaling pathway, the FoxO signaling pathway, the P13K-Akt signaling pathway, and the p53 signaling pathway. The binding of active compounds to key proteins was verified based on the Swiss Dock database, and the molecular docking of 193 bioactive compounds was finally verified. Among them, SLC5A2, SLC5A1, LDHA, KLK1, KLF5, and GSTP1 had better binding to the protein molecules. Conclusions: Empagliflozin may regulate the targets of SLC5A2, SLC5A1, LDHA, KLK1, KLF5, and GSTP1. There are numerous ways of treating T2DM with empagliflozin, including by regulating apoptosis, cell aging, as well as the NF-κB, HIF-1HIF-1, Ras, MAPK, FoxO, P13K-Akt, and p53 pathways.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo investigate the value of reduced field-of-view DWI (r-FOV DWI) in quantitative assessment of axial spondyloarthritis. MethodsA total of 112 patients with chronic back pain or suspected axial spondyloarthritis receiving full field-of-view DWI (f-FOV DWI) and reduced field-of-view DWI (r-FOV DWI) from December 2019 to December 2021 were enrolled. Next, subjective image quality assessment (anatomical detail, artifacts, distortion, overall image quality) and objective image quality assessment including (signal to noise ratio and contrast to noise ratio) were conducted by two experienced radiologists. In addition, the Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC) values of three groups (active group, inactive group, and control group) on the two DWI sequences were measured by the two radiologists, respectively. Finally, the consistency of measurement between the two researchers was evaluated and the differences in ADC values was compared. Results102 patients were included and were divided into three groups, including the active group (n=32), inactive group (n=29), and control group (n=41) according to ASAS diagnostic criteria. All subjective and objective image quality metrics were rated in favor of r-FOV DWI images compared with f-FOV DWI images [overall image quality: DWI 4(3~4) vs. 3(3~3) and SNR: 6.58(5.05~10.38) vs. 4.46(2.37~10.04), CNR: 2.04(-1.14~8.29) vs. 0.97(-8.19~7.12);P<0.05]. Inter-rater consistency of the two researchers were 0.60~0.74. According to the AUC curve, group inactive vs. control showed r-FOV DWI was better than f-FOV DWI. In other groups (lesion vs. control, active vs. inactive), there were no differences between both sequences(P<0.05). ConclusionThe subjective image quality score and signal to noise ratio of r-FOV DWI were higher than those of f-FOV DWI, which could be used for quantitative assessment of axial spondyloarthritis.

RESUMEN

AIM: To evaluate retinal vascularization caused by the intravitreal injection of Conbercept in the treatment of a series of retinopathy of prematurity(ROP)cases in Type Ⅰ(threshold and pre-threshold period)and aggressive ROP(A-ROP).METHODS: The data of 34 ROP cases(67 eyes)treated by intravitreal injection of Conbercept(IVC)in the ophthalmology department of the Xiamen Children's Hospital from July 2017 to March 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Reactivation, which refers to recurrence of acute phase features, occurred at any stage of the disease in the presence or absence of other diseases. RESULT: The average gestational age of the 34 children was 28.82±2.32wk. The average birth weight was 1155.18±398.22g. The lesion zone of 19 cases(37 eyes)was Zone Ⅰ. In 10 cases(20 eyes), the lesion was in Zone Ⅱ, and in 5 cases(10 eyes), the lesion was in the posterior Zone Ⅱ. The total effective rate of disease control in ROP children treated with once IVC was 73.1%(49/67), and the vascularization of Zone Ⅱ was completed. The patients showed variable changes in the vascularization in Zone Ⅲ. For the patients who received one treatment and did not reactivate, the average rate of Type Ⅰ vascularization of ROP was 9.11±2.49wk, and the A-ROP was 13.40±4.04wk. The rate of A-ROP vascularization in Zone Ⅱ was significantly longer compared to Type Ⅰ.CONCLUSION: IVC effectively completes vascularization in Zone Ⅱ.

RESUMEN

The hepatocytes, as the main cells in the liver, exert liver functions by expressing innate immune receptors. The innate immune receptors include Toll-like receptors (TLRs), RIG-like receptors (retinoic acid inducible gene I-like receptors, RLRs) and NOD-like receptors (nucleotide binding oligomerization domain-like receptors, NLRs). The hepatocytes, recognize extracellular pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and intracellular damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) through the above receptors. After the activation of the innate immune receptors, the hepatocytes produce cytokines, such as interferon (IFN), to protect the liver, through a series of signaling cascades.

RESUMEN

An iron-promoted oxidative tandem alkylation/cyclization of ynones with 4-alkyl-substituted 1,4-dihydropyridines for the efficient synthesis of 2-alkylated indenones is described. The process occurs via oxidative homolysis of a C-C σ-bond in 1,4-dihydropyridines to generate an alkyl radical followed by the addition of C-C triple bonds in ynones and intramolecular cyclization. A wide range of alkyl radicals could be efficiently transferred to generate a series of synthetically useful 2-alkylated indenones with excellent selectivity under mild conditions.

RESUMEN

Nitrogen heterocycles, especially polycyclic compounds, are significant skeletons in valuable molecules. Herein, we developed an efficient and practical visible-light-induced acylation/cyclization of active alkenes with acyl oxime derivatives for constructing acylated indolo/benzimidazo-[2,1,a]isoquinolin-6(5H) ones. This reaction was compatible with various functional groups and a series of fused indole/imidazole skeletons were prepared in up to 95% yield at room temperature.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: This review investigates the effectiveness of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in diabetes patients who were on routine dialysis. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: Literature search was conducted in electronic databases and studies were selected by following precise eligibility criteria. Random-effects meta-analyses were performed to estimate: 1) correlations of CGM with other indicators including glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), glycated albumin and mean amplitude of glucose excursions (MAGE); 2) mean differences (MDs) in CGM and MAGE values between dialysis and off-dialysis days or during vs before dialysis. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: There was a good correlation between CGM and self-monitoring of blood glucose values (r=0.837 [95% CI: 0.67, 0.92]). Correlation coefficient between CGM and HbA1c was 0.523 (95% CI: 0.422, 0.604) in diabetes patients on dialysis and 0.592 (95% CI: 0.354, 0.757) in diabetes patients without renal failure. Correlation coefficient between CGM and glycated albumin in diabetes patients on dialysis was 0.544 (95% CI: 0.254, 0.744). Average CGM and MAGE values on dialysis day were not significantly different from those of off-dialysis day in diabetes patients (MDs: -0.40 mmol/L [95% CI: -1.06, 0.26]; P=0.23; and MAGE 0.50 mmol/L [95% CI: -0.01, 1.00]; P=0.05). Compared to pre-dialysis values, average CGM and MAGE values were significantly lower during dialysis in diabetes patients (MDs: -2.11 mmol/L [95% CI: -3.25, -0.97]; P=0.0003 and MAGE -2.24 mmol/L [95% CI: -3.99, -0.50]; P=0.01). CONCLUSIONS: CGM is an efficient method of glycemic monitoring in diabetes patients on dialysis. CGM had similar correlations with HbA1c and glycated albumin.

RESUMEN

The Taiwanese fauna of the dung beetle genus Oxyomus Dejean, 1833 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae) is reviewed based on museum specimens and newly collected material. Four species, all endemic to Taiwan, are recognized, one of which is newly described here: O. alligator sp. nov. Remaining species are diagnosed, compared with similar relatives from outside of Taiwan, and their distribution is mapped. We show that Taiwanese Oxyomus species form three distinct morphological groups, similar to species from Japan, SE Asia and Malay Archipelago, respectively, indicating a possible composite origin of Taiwanese fauna. The species occur in submontane and montane forests at altitudes of 700-2550 m including the secondary Cryptomeria ones. Available data confirm their association with dung of various forest mammals (monkeys, muntjacs and serows), although the discovery of larvae in sifted forest leaf litter may indicate they can also develop in nutrient-rich substrate around the dung. The larva of O. alligator sp. nov. is described in detail, based on the larval specimens associated with adults by DNA barcodes. Larvae of Oxyomus alligator sp. nov. are similar to those of the European O. sylvestris (Scopoli, 1763), with important differences only found on maxilla and abdominal apex.

RESUMEN

Objective: To observe the clinical effects of free latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap combined with artificial dermis and split-thickness skin graft in the treatment of degloving injury in lower limbs. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted. From December 2017 to December 2020, 8 patients with large skin and soft tissue defect caused by degloving injury in lower extremity were admitted to Ningbo No.6 Hospital, including 5 males and 3 females, aged from 39 to 75 years, with wound area of 25 cm×12 cm-61 cm×34 cm. The free latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap with latissimus dorsi muscle in the width of 12-15 cm and flap area of 20 cm×8 cm-32 cm×8 cm was used to repair the skin and soft tissue defect of bone/tendon exposure site or functional area. The other defect was repaired with bilayer artificial dermis, and the flap donor site was sutured directly. After the artificial dermis was completely vascularized, the split-thickness skin graft from thigh was excised and extended at a ratio of 1∶2 to 1∶4 and then transplanted to repair the residual wound, and the donor site of skin graft was treated by dressing change. The survival of latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap, artificial dermis, and split-thickness skin graft after operation was observed, the interval time between artificial dermis transplantation and split-thickness skin graft transplantation was recorded, and the healing of donor site was observed. The appearance and function of operative area were followed up. At the last outpatient follow-up, the sensory recovery of flap was evaluated by British Medical Research Council evaluation criteria, the flap function was evaluated by the comprehensive evaluation standard of flap in Operative Hand Surgery, the scar of lower limb skin graft area and thigh skin donor area was evaluated by Vancouver scar scale, and the patient's satisfaction with the curative effects was asked. Results: The latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap survived in 6 patients, while the distal tip of latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap was partially necrotic in 2 patient and was repaired by skin grafting after resection at split-thickness skin grafting. The artificial dermis survived in all 8 patients after transplantation. The split-thickness skin graft survived in 7 patients, while partial necrosis of the split-thickness skin graft occurred in one patient and was repaired by skin grafting again. The interval time between artificial dermis transplantation and split-thickness skin graft transplantation was 15-26 (20±5) d. The donor site of latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap healed with linear scar after operation, and the thigh skin graft donor site healed with scar after operation. The patients were followed up for 6-18 (12.5±2.3) months. The color and elasticity of the flap were similar to those of the surrounding skin tissue, and the lower limb joint activity returned to normal. There was no increase in linear scar at the back donor site or obvious hypertrophic scar at the thigh donor site. At the last outpatient follow-up, the sensation of the flap recovered to grade S2 or S3; 3 cases were excellent, 4 cases were good, and 1 case was fair in flap function; the Vancouver scar scale score of lower limb skin graft area was 4-7 (5.2±0.9), and the Vancouver scar scale score of thigh skin donor area was 1-5 (3.4±0.8). The patients were fairly satisfied with the curative effects. Conclusions: In repairing the large skin and soft tissue defect from degloving injury in lower extremity, to cover the exposed bone/tendon or functional area with latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap and the residual wound with artificial dermis and extended split-thickness skin graft is accompanied by harvest of small autologous flap and skin graft, good recovery effect of functional area after surgery, and good quality of healing in skin grafted area.

RESUMEN

Objectives: This study investigated the clinical efficacy and safety of metformin hydrochloride sustained-release (SR) tablet (II) produced by Dulening and the original metformin hydrochloride tablet produced by Glucophage in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: This randomized, open and parallel controlled clinical trial consecutively recruited a total of 886 patients with T2DM in 40 clinical centers between May 2016 and December 2018. These patients were randomly assigned to the Dulening group (n=446), in which patients were treated with Dulening metformin SR tablets, and the Glucophage group (n=440), in which patients were treated with Glucophage metformin tablets, for 16 weeks. The changes in the levels of glycated hemoglobin (HbAc1) and fasting blood glucose (FBG) as well as weight loss were compared between these two groups. Also, the overall incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and the incidence of ADR of the gastrointestinal system observed in patients of these two groups were also compared. Results: There were no significant differences in demographic and basal clinical characteristics between these two groups. The Dulening and Glucophage groups showed comparable levels of decrease in HbA1c levels, FBG and weight loss after 12-week treatment (all p>0.05). The Dulening group had a significantly lower overall incidence of ADRs as well as gastrointestinal ADR than the Glucophage group. Conclusions: Metformin SR tablets (II) and the original metformin tablets exhibit similar therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of T2DM, but metformin SR tablets (II) has the significantly lower incidence of ADRs than the original metformin tablets.

RESUMEN

The present paper commented on Zhou et al. (2019) published on Science of the Total Environment. The authors measured the Pb concentration and bioaccumulation factor (BAF) of a few species of insects collected from Sichuan, China. However, based on the photos of the graphical abstract, we doubt the identification of the species. The biomass of the dung beetles was re-measured based on the specimens from Taiwan of the same species. The results are highly different than the authors, which positively affected the results and discussion. The experimental design should be based on actual food chains along with basal entomological knowledge. In conclusion, we recommend that studies on interactions between insects and the environment are conducted through collaboration with entomologists to ensure taxonomy and functional ecology are correctly identified.

RESUMEN

Background/Aims: Exenatide is a glucagon-like polypeptide-1 analog, whose main clinical use is to treat type 2 diabetes. However, the mechanism of exenatide in mitigating non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the in vitro and in vivo effect of exenatide on NASH. Methods: Leptin receptor-deficient C57BL/KsJ- db/db male mice were fed with methionine-choline-deficient (MCD) diet for 4 weeks to induce NASH, while oleic acid/LPS-treated HepG2 cells were used as an in vitro cell model. Exenatide (20 µg/kg/day, subcutaneous) and specific exenatide inhibitors (20 µg/kg/day, intraperitoneal) were used to determine the effects of exenatide on NASH. Results: Exenatide treatment inhibited the pyroptosis signaling pathway to attenuate NASH. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this report provides the first evidence showing that exenatide attenuated NASH by inhibiting the pyroptosis signaling pathway. Exenatide thus has important pathophysiological functions in NASH and may represent a useful new therapeutic target.

RESUMEN

Morels, fungi from the genus Morchella, are popular edible mushrooms. However, little knowledge of their asexual reproduction and inaccessible pure mitospores hamper illumination of their life cycle. Herein, we successfully induced conidiation, conidial germination and chlamydospore formation in pure culture of Morchella sextelata. Conidiation proceeded via four morphologically distinct stages: development of the conidiophore stalk, stalk branching, phialide differentiation, and conidium production. Terminal and intercalary chlamydospores were formed on conidial hyphae. The development of conidiophores occurred earlier, with more conidia produced, in cross-mating cultures than in single-spore cultures. Mature conidia were spherical and 2.5-8 µm in diameter, with a vast majority (nearly 99%) 2.5-5 µm in diameter. Each conidium contained one to three nuclei (80.2% conidia contained one nucleus, 19.1% contained two nuclei, and 0.7% contained three nuclei). The conidial nucleus diameter was 1-2 µm. The nuclear mitosis in detached conidia that was observed may benefit their colony initiation. Additionally, morel conidia formed conidial anastomosis tubes. Conidia (mitospores) likely not only function as spermatia, but also as reproductive propagules in Morchella. Further research is imperative to elucidate the relationship between the conidia and chlamydospores, and their unique function in the morel life cycle.

RESUMEN

Styrenic thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) consist of styrenic blocks. They are connected with other soft segments by a covalent linkage and are widely used in human life. However, in biomedical applications, TPEs need to be chemically hydrogenated in advance to enhance their properties such as strong UV/ozone resistance and thermal-oxidative stability. In this study, films composed of sulfonated hydrogenated TPEs were evaluated. Hydrogenated tert-butyl styrene-styrene-isoprene block copolymers were synthesized and selectively sulfonated to different degrees by reaction with acetyl sulfate. By controlling the ratio of the hydrogenated tert-butyl styrene-styrene-isoprene block copolymer and acetyl sulfate, sulfonated films were optimized to demonstrate sufficient mechanical integrity in water as well as good biocompatibility. The thermal plastic sulfonated films were found to be free of cytotoxicity and platelet-compatible and could be potential candidates in biomedical film applications such as wound dressings.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: We conducted a cross-sectional study to investigate the associations between domestic pets and respiratory health in children. METHODS: We randomly recruited 11,611 school children from Zhongshan, a southern city in China. Information about the respiratory symptoms and disease history of the recruited children, the status of domestic pets, and other related risk factors were collected from March to July 2016. RESULTS: We identified cat-keeping at home increases the risk of persistent cough (OR, 1.77; 95%CI, 1.03-3.05); poultry-keeping at home increases the risk of current asthma (OR, 3.87; 95%CI, 1.08-13.92) and allergic rhinitis (OR, 1.84; 95%CI, 1.01-3.37); sleeping with pets increases the risk of persistent phlegm (OR, 5.04; 95%CI, 1.05-24.28), doctor-diagnosed asthma (OR, 3.35; 95%CI, 1.31-8.57) and current asthma (OR, 4.94; 95%CI, 1.05-23.31) in children. CONCLUSIONS: Cat-keeping and molds on the wall of the house had the multiplicative and additive interaction in doctor-diagnosed asthma.
