RESUMEN

Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) play a key role in physiological processes. However, the imbalance between ROS and antioxidants in favor of the former causes oxidative stress linked to numerous pathologies. Due to its unique attributes, including distinguished permeability and selective antioxidant capability, molecular hydrogen (H2) has become an essential therapeutic agent. Hydrogen Inhalation Therapy (HIT) has come to light as a promising strategy to counteract oxidative stress. In this randomized controlled study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of HIT in reducing blood ROS levels. 37 participants with elevated ROS levels (d-ROMs value > 350 U.CARR) were enrolled in the study. Participants were divided into test and control groups. The test group participants received HIT, and then their blood ROS levels were measured immediately post-treatment and after 24 h. Their results were compared to those of the control group participants who did not undergo HIT. The test group demonstrated a significant reduction in blood ROS levels after the treatment. These findings suggested the efficacy of HIT in reducing oxidative stress.

Fluorescent Pseudomonas from diverse environmental samples including wastes were identified and screened for the solubilization of tricalcium phosphate, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), production and inhibition of extracellular N-acylhomoserine lactone (AHLs) and characterized for their siderophores. Genotypic analysis by amplified rDNA restriction analysis (ARDRA) and BOX-A1R-based repetitive extragenic palindromic-PCR (BOX-PCR) typing resulted respectively in 14 ARDRA types and 24 different BOX-types with diverse incidence among the analyzed strains. Based on 16S rRNA sequence analysis the isolates were assigned to P. aeruginosa, P. otitidis, P. plecoglossicida, P. mosselii, P. monteilii, P. koreensis, P. taiwanenesis, P. frederiksbergensis and P. graminis. Of the 66 isolates, 56 (84.85%) isolates solubilized tri-calcium phosphate (TCP), 53 (80.30%) isolates produced plant growth hormone IAA, 62 (94%) produced bacteriocin and 34 (52%) isolates produced extracellular N-acylhomoserine lactone while 30 (45%) isolates were able to interfere with N-acylhomoserine lactone. Isolates were clustered into 17 siderotypes and (59)Fe cross-incorporation experiments permitted assignment of all siderotypes but two into well-defined siderovars.

16S-23S rRNA internally transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences from 53 Frankia strains were sequenced and sized from polymerase chain reaction amplification products and compiled with 14 selected 16S-23S ITS sequences from public database. Frankia genomes included two to three ITS copies lacking length polymorphism except for nine strains. No tRNA gene was encountered in this region. Frankia strains exhibited various lengths (369 to 452 nt) and a wide range of sequence similarity (35-100%) in the ITS region. The average pairwise distance varied from 0.368 (clusters 1 and 2) to 0.964 (clusters 3 and 4) and was 0.397, 0.138, 0.129, and 0.016, respectively, for cluster 4 (saprophytic non-infective/non-effective), clusters 1 and 3 (facultative symbiotic), and cluster 2 (obligate symbiotic). This suggests a gradual erosion of Frankia diversity concomitantly with a shift from saprophytic non-infective/non-effective to facultative and symbiotic lifestyle. Comparative sequence analyses of the 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer region of Frankia strains are not useful to assign them to their respective cluster or host infection group. Accurate assignment required the inclusion of the adjacent 16S and 23S rRNA gene fragments.
